Week 5 from the UFFL; a week before the break and this game was just as exciting as the others. And we have our two die hard fans giving you the details of the Dons game in their podcast.

Hello and welcome to another installment of Don's Nation, the number one fan podcast show of the number one team in the UFFL, the California Dons! I am Macro Garner and with me is my good friend Myron Woods.

Woods: That's right! We are the number one podcast! I can't believe that other fans are actually listening to us, Marco. Seems that we are doing something right.

Garner: I think it is the overall love for the Dons. We are a great group of people here.

Woods: That we are. There's nothing better than a group of people talking about football. Speaking of football, we have a game to talk about. Let's do this! -claps hands-

Garner: Thank you, Myron. For week five the home stadium had a visit from Texas but not from the Ramblers; they will visit after the break. The Abilene Lancers were our opponents for this game.

Woods: Oh man; have you seen the bobble head dolls they were giving out this week? We had Kourin Masquarade and Miles Redman; and I managed to get both of them!

Garner: Um yes... I got Masquarade... how did you get Redman as well?

Woods: Sometimes you have to do things in style. It's a tough life when you have to collect all the figures.

Garner: Meaning you swiped it from someone.

Woods: NO... but if you leave it there after the game is over, then it's fair game.

Garner: I see... well, back to the game; which featured rookie quarterback Blake Riggins taking on our veteran Darnell Paige.

Woods: That's our man! He knows how to get things done. WOO!

Garner: Already? Anyways, the game itself saw rookies being involved in one way or another and it started with a bang. Rookie Andrew Castonguay kicked it off and then, on the second play of the game, second year cornerback Ben Gipson finds the right path for a pass and intercepts it.

Woods: That was an amazing play! I knew that this would be a good game from this point on.

Garner: And it showed during the next drive when the Dons attacked. We actually got to see rookie Oliver Smithson start this game as a tight end and on his first play he caught the ball and ran for nine yards.

Woods: He sounds like a real good potential runner for the future games. I wonder why they didn't start him sooner.

Garner: Rookies sometimes have to learn the book and the plays before having that potential to be on the field. Overall he carried the ball four times for thirty two yards; which is not bad for a tight end. Back to the drive though; after a short run by Paige, the next play he looks out and finds rookie Mylene Jean for a thirty one yard pass to give them the first score of the game.

Woods: Yes! It looked beautiful too; a pinpoint accurate pass Paige made to Jean. The fans were wild from that.

Garner: Indeed. But a good drive like that needed to be answered from the Lancers and that they did with an eight play sixty yard drive with Raphael Ellison taking a fifteen yard pass to give them score. The only good part of the drive was the missed extra point attempt.

Woods: It wasn't too bad; just nicked it to the right a little too much there.

Garner: And that brought the score to 7-6 Dons; which remained that way until late in the second quarter when Emmett Smith kicked a twenty eight yard field goal right before halftime; giving the Dons a little more of a lead at the break with the score being 10-6.

Woods: The halftime show was just as great as the game, Marco. The band was really going at it at getting the crowd riled up for the second half. It reminded me of my days back when I was in band?

Garner: You were in band?

Woods: Yeah! But only for a couple years during middle school over at the Midwest. I had a trumpet and I did pretty damn well with it. But my dad had a transfer over to here and I kinda dropped out of it. Should have stayed on it; I could have ended up being part of the Dons band.

Garner: Wow, I did not know that.

Woods: Well, I can only reminisce on it now. Good days back then.

Garner: Speaking of good days, the day was about to get complicated for the Dons. Late at the third quarter Paige snaps the ball and tries to look for an open man. Instead, he had Safety Claudio Fox all over him which resulted in a sack and a fumble, in which Fox took and covered it with his life.

Woods: Now that was a tough break. Fox only had three tackles but they counted where it was needed; two of them being sacks.

Garner: And that resulted in a forty four yard drive for a touchdown. But that's not all cause the Abilene defense struck once again. After the kickoff, Paige once again tried to look for someone and found Bart DeGuilhem. But DeGuilhem tipped the ball and it ended up on Jesus Kidd's hands, who ran it back for eleven yards and forced another Dons turnover.

Woods: And just like that, with the quick run in by QB Blake Riggins, the Lancers got a ten point lead over the Dons; with the score at the end of the third being 20-10. My mind was all over the place at that time. We were expecting another loss at this point.

Garner: Yeah, but we had one more quarter to play. And, as they say, anything happens.

Woods: You know what I really like about the Dons when they play? They have good time management when they have the ball.

Garner: You are right, Myron. And that is what helped them out at the start of the fourth quarter when they started out with a field goal from Emmett Smith. And, after a failed drive from the Lancers, they punted the ball to Koriun Masqurade who ran it back for decent yardage.

Woods: The next play was beautiful.

Garner: You know it. In fact, I have the audio from the Dons radio broadcaster Justin Moreno.

Moreno: "First and ten at the Dons 39; Darnell Paige takes the ball and makes a short pass to Mylene Jean who BREAKS THE TACKLE! And she is off to the races; 45, 50, 45, 40... and no one is going to catch this cheetah as she takes it all the way for a touchdown!" -Roaring sounds from the stadium- "A sixty one yard run from the rookie wide receiver; her second touchdown of the game."

Garner: And with the extra point made, the game was all tied up at twenty a piece. But that's not all. What goes around comes around.

Woods: Ah, the meaning of karma; Abilene was starting to stutter at this point.

Garner: After the kickoff and a dropped pass from Riggins, he tries to pass again. His target was Raphael Ellison and it ended up at Ben Gipson's hands for an interception!

Woods: Oh man, once that play happened, we were all on our feet. We needed a score for this next drive.

Garner: And that wish came true with a seven play, forty two yard drive. And that gave the Dons the lead they needed at 27-20. But there was still a lot of time left in the game.

Woods: Everyone in the stadium remained on their feet after that hoping that the Lancers wouldn't respond back.

Garner: That answer came in the next drive; first and ten and Blake Riggins picks up the ball only to be chased and brought down by Artemis Griner.

Woods: That's my girl! -claps loudly- She kept talking about wanting a sack and she got it here.

Garner: She did indeed. I hope to see more from her. And with that sack, it pretty much sealed the deal for the Lancers as they were unable to come back from that. At the end of the game, the Dons came out from behind to win the game with the final score being 27-20. Darnell Paige was 24 for 39; passing for 350 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Woods: Looking at the stats, the Dons pretty dominated on the boards; 350 passing yards over the Lancers' 160 yards, 128 rushing yards over 89, and they held the ball for almost thirty eight minutes. As far as offense on the Continental Conference, they are first in average points and average yards. The only thing that needs a little help is on defense.

Garner: They are not particularly the worst in defense. The average points allowed could be lower but we are holding them back in yardage.

Woods: Rushing yards anyways; the opponents are still throwing all around us. We can get better.

Garner: Let's hope so because after this week off, they are going to play games against the United Conference; who seems stronger especially in the defense. Our first opponent from that league is the Texas Ramblers, who still surprises us in one way or another.

Woods: I know, right? Last season, the head coach of the team, Jack Knight, drafted his sister Jacqueline Knight for the first draft pick. Then he gave quarterback Roy DeJesus the boot after the first week when he threw for five interceptions. And now, a couple weeks back, he fired the Offensive Coordinator and brought in their father Abraham Knight who was a big time player back in the days before the UFFL.

Garner: So it's all about the family there in Texas.

Woods: It's so cool yet creepy. Before you know it, all the coaches there will be family members.

Garner: I don't think they are going to go that far into it.

Woods: You'll never know...

Garner: Would be a strange occurrence. Let's take a break. When we come back, we will talk about the teams from the United Conference and what to expect from them. This is Dons Nation.

Woods: Best team in the UFFL!
