Tool species
A general description of Tools species. Inspired by rp shenanigans.
Tools species V1.0 (See my profile description is you stumble upon this and are confused. An explanation is there.)-
Genetically modified humans, the Tools are a very small and intelligent species who are rare in the extreme. Their minds are unique in that they can be reprogrammed with whatever skills are most suitable for an assigned task. A split mind. With one part holding the personality and primary intelligence like anyone else. While the other part can be modified like a computer. Able to install whatever skills are needed. Which then become part of the Tools mind. As easily accessible as true memory. Their skill level is dependant on the quality of installed programming. Sloppy or rough skill sets will result in similar quality work. While skills assembled and installed with great skill will result in the same. This part of their mind does have limits and as such skills are often swapped out rather than just installed. The result is a ever changing lifestyle for a Tool. One moment a skilled engineer, the next a programmer. The Tools will always remember their past experiences even if they do not remember the skills that they used to accomplish such feats. Also, this part of their mind will improve over time and use. So more experienced Tools will be able to handle large or more complex skill packages.
The Tools appear as small lizard like humanoids a little over two feet in height on average. Very slender in build they weigh an average of forty pounds. Their bodies covered in a fine layer of brightly colored scales. The first Tools species encountered was mostly coated in metallic orange in two tones. With markings of gold. Another was coated in blue with speckles of black. Their appears to be no standard. As if each Tools specimen was built to be unique. Their eyes are always a different color than the rest of their bodies but seem to have no limits. Red, black, silver, purple and other colors have been recorded. They have short frills for ears that can lift and fold to accompany changes in expression. They have snouts with teeth suitable for their omnivore status. Even if they do have a leaning towards meat. Digigrade legs with short clawed feet. Five fingered hands with tiny claws. A lean and powerful prehensile tail. Strong enough to hang from.
They have fantastic memory and incredible vision. With their hearing and sense of smell being above average. Tools are very quick and highly agile. For obvious reasons they lack in strength but hauling heavy things is not their purpose. They are not cowardly but are very aware they are one of the smallest races in the galaxy. This, along with along with many other factors cause a meek attitude to surface when dealing with others.
While mentally capable the Tools do have a very different mindset than that of their former human selves. They are an active species that feels an instinctive need to work. Open minded they often find themselves in the service of whomever happens to have installed programs in their minds. They are not without will and are very aware of who and what they are. The need to work is as driving to them as sexual desire is to most humans. They do make friends, alliances and give loyalties like anyone else but they are a Tools species and will gravitate to those who need their services.
Sexually the Tools match most the common races in the galaxy. Meaning that they have female and male members of their species. With the males having internal genitalia . The penis is modest at best. Slender and tapered. Both male and female genital slits are hardly noticeable. Their sexual activity is where they start to differ. As they have no natural need to procreate or any drive to accomplish it. A special chemical, usually delivered in a gas, is the only way to induce sexual desire. Which manifests itself with extreme strength. Mating is a very pleasurable experience for a Tool but it isn't something they seek to repeat. Once the performance is over their normal mind set returns quickly. Partly because of this the two genders treat each other entirely equal and if clothed it is unlikely anyone could tell the difference between a male and a female. Even another Tool.
Notable biological features-
The Tools ability to have programs installed is accomplished through a biological access port located in the back of the Tools head at the base of its skulls. Hidden under a protective wall of scales. It can be accessed by gently gripping each side of the Tools head from behind. Using thumbs to rub along the slit which should be barely visible upon close inspection. This induces a state of calm in the Tools and the port should open. The port is suitable for a variety of input jacks but a current generation ASI (Adjustable Synthetic Input) should be used if possible. A person with suitable equipment and skills can then install skill programs with ease.
Around the neck are a series of both glands and nerve clusters that serve as a means to disable the Tool. Grabbing the Tools around the neck, always from behind, will immediately render the Tools immobile. They will hang mostly limp while held. During this time the Tools will experience a slight sense of euphoria as well as see colorful patters overlapping their vision. Often times if a Tools is deep into their work this may be the only way to get their full attention. Once released their will regain composure within moments, have a centered mind and be fully focused on the one who held them. It is not painful in the slightest and has the additional side effect of clearing a Tools emotions. Quickly bringing them back to focus if overly excited, sad or otherwise distracted.
More glands are located on the underside of a Tools tail. Higher up near the base. These are indicated by lighter spots in the Tools coloring. In the case of lightly colored Tools these areas will be darker. These glands can be pressed firmly to induce a feeling of well being. Along with minor euphoric feelings that increase the longer the glands are pressed. Longer still and feelings of friendship and loyalty will blossom. With the final stage being imprinting towards whomever is performing the action. Leaving the Tools almost entirely unable to resist commands or suggestions for a span of up to a week. The primary purpose of these glands is as a reward for a job well done. Something a Tools will come to expect and enjoy far more than a paycheck or empty words of thanks. Obviously the ability to abuse this is very real and does happen.
