Chloe silently pondered this for a second and then responded with "Fine, then I'll just ask the whole class. One of them will probably know who it was." And then without waiting for a reply Chloe shot her hand up in the air.
Mia instantly was filled with dread and a mortified look of horror filled her face. She knew she had told Luke she wouldn't say anything but she couldn't let Chloe blurt out her sex-life to the entire class. She was about to agree to tell Chloe about it when the teacher turned and saw them.
"Chloe?" she asked, expecting a question from the zebra.
"I'll tell you just please don't do this!" Mia begged just barely loud enough for her friend to hear.
"Yes" Chloe started while looking at the teacher.
Mia suddenly realized Chloe hadn't heard her. Her heart dropped and she slumped back in her chair wishing she could will herself to die.
"I was just wondering why X is always the letter used for unknown variables. Does it hold any significance?"
Mia visibly unclenched her entire body with relief, knowing that her secret was still safe.
"Good question, Chloe" the teacher responded, only to immediately be interrupted by the bell signaling the end of the period. "I guess it's one I'll have to answer for you tomorrow." The teacher said as the class had already started getting up from their desks and shuffling out of the room.
Mia hoped this would be an opportunity to end this conversation and turned to hurry out of the room but Chloe grabbed her shoulder before she could get away and whispered "I'll be by your house around 7. What a fun sleepover we're gonna have." The zebra then flashed a devilish grin and walked away leaving Mia worried about what to tell Luke.
Mia was spending all afternoon in the living room instead of her room, hoping to intercept her friend and avoid any embarrassment with her dads but it was just her luck that James happened to be walking by the door when a knock came from the other side.
When her dad opened the door, Mia could hear Chloe's voice ask "Can Mia come out and play?" and she sighed as she got up from the couch.
"Yeah, cute, Chloe." Mia said sarcastically. "Come on, we have to get started on that project." She grabbed her hand and tried to start walking toward her room upstairs.
"Aww... you think I'm cute?" Chloe asked mockingly with a coy smile. Her fathers, seeing an opportunity for good-natured teasing, joined in.
"Our little girl's all grown up, James." Jon said.
"So what are your intentions with my daughter?" James asked, turning toward the zebra while trying to maintain a stern look.
Embarrassed and annoyed, Mia said "Fine! I'll be in my room doing homework when you're done being idiots with them, Chloe." And then she stormed up the stairs. Mia could hear Chloe introduce herself to Jon and James and then excuse herself to follow her up the stairs. By the time she got to her room, her friend was right behind her.
Mia opened the door and let Chloe in, closing the door afterward and locking it from the inside so her dads wouldn't barge in and hear anything they shouldn't. "You know, I didn't invite you over so you could tease me with my dads."
"No, you _invited_me over to tell me who you finally lost it to." Chloe said while slowly looking around the room, casually picking things up and going through drawers and piles of stuff on Mia's desk.
"You don't know him-" Mia started but was cut off.
"Oh no, puppy, no backing out now. I want a name!" Chloe was now staring at Mia impatiently.
Mia hesitated for a moment and then finally said quietly "his name is Luke."
"Luke..." Chloe pondered aloud. She paused for a few long seconds and then blurted out "Luke Tuppins from Chemistry?! He's such a nerd! And I can't believe your first was a human. How was he?"
"It wasn't him!" Mia interjected as Chloe started to get carried away. "He's a guy that lives next door. And stop shouting or my dads will hear you!"
"Oh?" Chloe stopped. "A new kid? I don't remember anyone..."
"No. He's the same age as my dads, I think. And you can't tell anyone! I fucking men it, Chloe!"
"Really? An older guy?" Chloe asked with an excited look on her face.
"Yup. Can we please talk about something else now?"
Chloe chuckled slightly and started perusing the room again. She hit play when she came to Mia's CD player and then said "No. Not yet. I want details!"
"What? No!" Mia insisted. "I told you who he is now let it go!"
Chloe came up close to Mia and getting right in her face said mockingly "I figured after you got laid you'd stop being such a prude!"
"I am not!" Mia started to object but was interrupted when Chloe quickly kissed her. Mia was shocked at first but then pulled away. "What the hell, Chloe?"
"See, told you - prude!"

"We'll see" Chloe said with a smile and Mia's false confidence disappeared again.
