#1 of Shadow of a Freelancer

Say hello to my new series. This is obviously the first chapter, tell me what y'all think. I've had this done for a little over two weeks. I just had to get it out of my head before it got lost. I've waited till now so I could further my other series a little bit without forgetting anything I thought about on it as well.

This is the story of a disciple of Freelancer Delta, he and a few others who have crossed paths with the lucrative organization known as the ‘Electus' try to aid their mentor in his and their own search for revenge.

______________________________________________________________________________

7-14-2337 A.D. (289 S.D (Star Date)) following a lead on the organization known as the Electus a male wolf tracked a male human pirate who had personally known and dealt with Electus members, to the planet Tal'ock Prime; a neutral planet that starbase seventeen orbited, this wolf tailed him to an old region of the capital city that held many ancient and decaying structures.

The wolf stealthfully followed him into an old sky rise building in the center of the region. After he entered the building he followed the human up to the thirty third floor and waited until the human entered a room. Right when the human closed the door, the wolf easily kicked the door down and right onto the human, with an old solid round handgun with a silencer attached drawn incase there were others inside.

There were two others inside...when this wolf kicked the door down, they were both sitting on a couch directly in front of the door watching the television; one was a human woman who screamed when she saw the wolf dressed in an all black exo-suit and quickly shot up and grabbed the smaller person; who was obviously a child.

The wolf quickly aimed his gun and fired as the woman picked up the child and started to run; blasting a hole through her back and the child's chest killing them both immediately. After the wolf shot them the man under the door began yelling.

"No TRACY, ALEX! You wolf Bastard!" The man yelled as the wolf stood on the door pinning him down.

The wolf just stood there and took a deep breath before letting out a sigh of frustration, what he did was probably the kindest thing he could've done to them, however he had other plans for the man under the door.

************

After his forceful entry, the wolf had begun interrogating the pirate in very inhumane ways. Thirty minuets later he started asking questions.

"No I swear...I don't know anything!" The bloodied up pirate screamed.

"Lire! You know something now spit it out!" The wolf yelled as he kicked the man in the mouth knocking a few teeth from his head.

The man screamed in pain from the kick to his face. He had been savagely beaten; six broken ribs, shattered knee and broken legs, crushed hand, dislocated fingers and toes, and strips of flesh were torn from his back and he smelled like blood, piss and shit. This black wolf had done this to him mercilessly and without care.

"Tell me where I can find Patrick Territh!" The wolf yelled again as he paced back and forth.

"I don't...I don't know." The human said in a fearful voice after he spit out blood.

The wolf growled and easily picked the human up by his throat and pinned him up against a wall and punched him in the gut several times and asked the same question again.

"I know you've had dealings with him. Where is he!?"

"I said I don't know!" The man said in what was barely a whisper while he dangled two feet of the floor.

"Fine let's do it this way then." The wolf said in an acidic tone as he pulled out a foot long knife and slammed it into the mans shoulder pinning him to the wall and let go of him; letting him hang by his shoulder electing screams of pain from deep inside him. The wolf let him hang there for five minuets while he rested a little; the man screamed the whole time.

Through the screams of pain the man yelled "Fine! I-I'll tell you!"

The wolf pulled the knife out of the humans shoulder and let him fall to the floor with a thud. The man took in several deep breaths before he talked.

"All...all I know is...t-that he can be found...on starbase one...prison sector."

"Is that the truth?" The wolf asked as knelt down in front of the human.

"Y-yes. He was...arrested for exporting I-illegal genetic samples." He said as he took in another deep breath.

"I see." The wolf said as he pulled out his gun, cocked it and aimed it at the mans head.

"I swear that's it...please don't please!" The man screamed and started pissing his pants as he begged for his life.

The wolf lowered the gun a little "Don't worry I believe you." He said in a trustful caring voice.

The man let out a sigh and closed his eyes, then the wolf raised the gun and pulled the trigger...blowing a hole through the mans head; splattering blood and brain matter across the floor.

The wolf stood up, looked at the three bodies and walked out of the room, he turned down a hallway till he reached a larger room. He stopped and looked around; making sure that no one saw him, until he activated a small device on his shoulder and said.

"This is Freelancer Shadow the job's done...get me the hell out of here!" and just as he finished a beam of light filled the room and the Freelancer disappeared.

*************

Freelancer Shadow, a black furred wolf with blue eyes, and shoulder length black hair that falls over the front of his face. He's at the age of twenty eight, has a broad chest and is six feet five inch's tall. He has several large scars on his chest and back, he also has a scar above his left eye, fur regrew white in that spot and makes him look like he has a white eyebrow.

*************

Freelancer Shadow was beamed back aboard his ship The Ira; a small modified transport ship. Modified with numerous offensive and defensive systems, it has also had a engine modification that allows it to travel between starbase's and planets relatively fast...actually it is now faster then the A.T.W.F's fastest fighters, and can outrun the federation's best flagship the C.S.F Dawn in the long run, and use's ten times less fuel then the most fuel efficient ship out there.

"Welcome back." A feminine voice said over the ships PA speakers as Shadow walked out of the transporter room.

"Thanks for lockin on to me so fast." He replied in a non caring voice as he turned a corner and headed for the ships bridge "I wouldn't want to be caught by the authorities."

"I always have a constant lock on you at all times...unless you walk into an area with transporter blocking shields that is. Why would the authorities be a problem?" The voice asked cheerfully.

"Oh Nerah...because on this planet being a Freelancer means nothing to them, I committed murder in their eyes." Shadow said to her.

************

Nerah was the Ira's main AI computer, she has complete control of the ship and is also self aware of herself. She was the militaries greatest AI system and Freelancer Shadow stole her from them with some help from a friend, and made her his ships main computer. She is capable of transferring to other ship computers; taking control of that ship temporarily.

Also Nerah can hack into a starbase's systems and control an entire starbase by herself. She can watch people through the base's cameras, override locked doors, and if she wanted to she could cut the starbase's life support systems.

And if she wants to be, she can be a pain in the ass as well as be a smart ass. She is always happy and peaceful; unless provoked, to Shadows sorrow and rage; which is a constant.

*************

"Not to mention the way you killed the male huh?" She said in a playful voice.

"Add one more case of manslaughter to my file." Shadow said as he shrugged and entered the bridge.

The bridge of the Ira was the farthest thing from a transport ship's bridge. It had so many controls and screens to go with them you'd think you just walked into the bridge of a deep space exploration ship crossed with that of a battleships bridge. Most of the systems were scanners and weapons systems. The scanners could detect an object the same size as a floor tile that was motionless in space; they could also pick up the same object even if it had scanner absorbing systems on it.

"So you got the information you were searching for boss?" Nerah asked in her cheerful voice.

"I wouldn't have come back if I didn't...unless the target got away." Shadow replied in his careless voice.

"Which never happens of course." Nerah pointed out.

"What me not coming back?"

"No you always come back because you always get your target; the target never gets away." She said.

"Hmm quite...put in a course that takes us to moonbase and once clear of this system activate the hyperdrive."

"Starbase One eh? Sure thing boss." She replied as certain systems began coming online.

Shadow sighed and said. "Two years..."

"Two years boss?" Nerah asked.

"Since I last went to Earth." He responded.

"What happened, you may be my captain but I know nothing about you?" Nerah said.

"A funeral...and I'm not going into the details." Shadow said.

"Too painful?" She asked.

"Sure we'll go with that..." He said with a smile "...has the course been entered?" Shadow asked.

"Entered and set, the ship is exiting the system now...activating the hyperdrive." She said as the ship entered hyperspace.

****************

(Pant, pant, pant,)

He was running, running from what he couldn't tell. Maybe he was running towards something, again he didn't know. Tears were flowing from his eyes as he ran down a dark endless hallway. There was hardly any light so he couldn't tell what was around him. One image kept appearing before his eyes; it was a transport ship being shot and then falling into the atmosphere of a planet. The ship broke up while it fell towards the ground.

He felt an uncontrollable rage building up inside him as he ran. He felt as if part of him died and something else was reborn inside him that filled the space of what died. It was cold...and heartless; he killed many innocent people while he was rampaging.

Suddenly images of people started popping up around him as he ran. Faces of people he had killed, men women and children alike, even the face of the woman and child he killed that day appeared before him. He knew what he was running from now...it was his past.

***************

Shadow shot right out of his dream; sitting straight up in his bed in a cold sweat, panting a little. 3:15 A.M. his clock read. He let out a sigh and put his hand to his face and pushed his hair back. This had been the eighth time he woke up that night from the same dream.

"Looks like my demons won't let me sleep tonight." He said to himself as he got up and walked into the bathroom that was attached to his room.

He started his shower and tested the water temperature with his hand. Burning hot...he disrobed and stepped into the hot water that rained from his shower head. He didn't get into the shower to clean but to help himself wake up. He put his arm on the side of the wall and leaned his head against it while his fur soaked.

After ten minuets in the shower he turned the water off and stepped out. He activated air vents that would blow hot air onto him and quickly dry him, and then he towel dried other area's that hadn't gotten dry by the vents. After that he wrapped the towel around his waist and walked out to his closet to get dressed. He put some black jeans on before he walked out of his room. While he walked down the hall that cheerful voice spoke to him.

"Cant sleep boss?" Nerah said.

"Just some bad dreams, that's all."

"More like bad memories. If you want you can take some of those pills you acquired to help you sleep. We still have three days before we arrive at starbase one." Nerah mentioned.

"No thanks." Shadow said as he entered the ships kitchen.

"Why not boss? You hardly ever sleep...I think it would do you good."

"Two reasons. One being they are illegal drugs that stay in the bodies system for a week, and since moonbase always dose drug tests that would be bad. Second...they would keep me in that nightmare for at least two days." He said as he made a late night snack.

He grabbed a large potato, cheese, sour cream, shrimp and several other things before he pulled out a frying pan. He set the potato on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven and started baking it. He then turned on the stove and melted some butter in the frying pan then put the shrimp in and started cooking them.

A little bit later the potato and shrimp were done and he put them on a plate. He cut the potato open and put a few of the shrimps in it as well as cheese and sour cream before he walked out of the kitchen and into the adjoining room to eat. When he was almost done eating Nerah informed him of something.

"Boss, someone is hailing us."

"Alright I'm comin to the bridge now, drop out of hyperspace." He said and left.

He arrived at the bridge and before Nerah put who was calling on the main screen he said. "After I say who I am mute our end would ya."

The image was that of fur; a raccoon to be exact and one Shadow knew, he had a smile on his masked face as Shadow tilted his head to the side.

"Well now, what are you doing this far from the good jobs Dead Eye?" Shadow asked.

"What I can't come and tell a friend hello?" The raccoon known as Dead Eye said.

"I take it you don't want me to mute what you say now huh?" Nerah asked playfully; she knew Dead Eye and that Shadow would not want the line muted.

"Nope of course he wants you to mute the line; he doesn't want to hear me talk." Dead Eye joked.

"How are you today Dead Eye?" Nerah asked.

"Oh fine...mostly." He replied.

"So Dead Eye, why ya here?" Shadow asked.

"Mind if I come aboard before I tell you that?" he asked.

"Nerah where is he?"

"His ship The Invidia is about 1500 meters (1640.42 yards) away from our current position." She replied.

"Only his ship? What about him?" Shadow asked as a small grin made its way to his face as someone knocking could be heard behind him.

"Only 1.22 meters (4 feet) away from where you're standing." She said happily as an arm found its way across Shadows shoulders and neck.

"When did I give you permission to come aboard my ship?" Shadow asked in a strangely calm voice; a voice that only a few knew.

Dead Eye immediately removed his arm and took a couple steps back from Shadow and asked. "May I be permitted to come aboard?" While he held onto a small device that would beam him back to his own ship for safety if the need arose.

Thing is, with Shadow one could do what Dead Eye had just done and be perfectly fine as Shadow would be carefree and wouldn't care, on the other hand if someone did that and he was in his other mood that person would end up dead...or worse.

"Permission to come aboard granted." He said then a smile broke out across his face.

"Jeesh, you had me going that time Shadow." Dead Eye said as he let out a sigh.

"So what does the grand sharpshooting Freelancer Dead Eye want with the small time Shadow?" He asked.

Personal Freelancer Information File

Yes Dead Eye is a Freelancer; the reason why his name is Dead Eye is because with any gun he can hit the bullseye dead on center on any target. Some time ago Dead Eye used to work for the legendary Freelancer Delta after being rescued from a laboratory controlled by the organization known as the Electus. He had been experimented on in that lab and once Delta rescued him from there he pledged his life to him.

Normally Freelancer Delta would not take on such a pitiful creature, however in the same day not more then five minuets after he freed him, that pitiful creature managed to take out a sniper close to two miles away with a rifle he picked up from a dead guard. That was the first time he had ever fired a gun; let alone he hit the sniper right between the eyes with no scope.

Each Freelancer's name is unique to a specific skill they have...usually, there are Freelancers who take there old code names as the Freelancer name and even those who create new alias's for their Freelancer name. Freelancer Delta took the name Delta because he is a one man Delta Force.

Freelancer Shadow took the name shadow for one reason, not because he has black fur and wears black clothing. It's because he is the shadow of...Information Deleted...

"You may be a small time newbie Freelancer but what you're workin on and who you're workin with is one of the largest things going on for anyone, Freelancers included." Dead Eye said.

"Mentioning that I have a lead on one of the Electus lead members Patrick Territh, apparently he's being held in the brig on moonbase." Shadow said as he took a seat in the captain's chair and started browsing through one of his files on his little screen.

"I'm guessing you're going there to get more information and take care of loose ends?" Dead Eye asked.

"Of course, once I get what ever info I can from him I'll put one right in his heart and brain. That will be for sure one lead member of the Electus dead!" Shadow said.

"Patrick Territh huh...you have a personal tie with that one right?" Dead Eye asked.

Shadow looked away from him and let out a sigh. He looked back at him and said "Yeah...there is a very personal tie with the one who wanted me dead."

"So that's why you want to kill him so badly? He tried to kill you...I guess an eye for an eye but...you're goin way out of the way for that." Dead Eye said.

"Key word, TRIED, he killed someone else instead of me. Just a little mess up with information killed someone close to me...and that's all you get." Shadow said after realizing Dead Eye was trying to get him to spill the beans about himself.

"So someone close huh. That's way too personal for me to dive into, I'll leave it alone." Dead Eye said sincerely but continued talking "Anyway...Delta contacted me."

"What did he say?" Shadow asked.

"Says he found two lead members in a meeting and captured them. Says he was about to start his interrogations." Dead Eye informed.

"Well then that's going to be three of the thirteen leaders dead soon enough."

"Yeah...that organization is an unholy monstrosity, and the number of leaders is the unholy number itself." Dead Eye said.

"Don't start with the religious mumbo jumbo. We're takers of lives, messengers of death and here you are a religious fanatic." Shadow said.

"Hey if you think about it...all three of us kill those who have committed crimes that could be considered against the almighty." Dead Eye said.

Shadow looked down and sighed as he said "I may be the newbie but you're the one who still doesn't kill innocents. Hell I've killed more innocents in one mission the Delta has in two. How can you say Delta and I do the bidding of him when we kill so many who aren't even associated with our targets?"

"Hey the only thing I ever had was the belief of god when I was tested on in a lab like a rat! The day I was saved was the same day I asked for my torment to end from god. How can I not be religious? Besides we don't know what those people have done, and god works in mysterious ways." Dead Eye explained.

"I understand that but you know me well enough that I'm not into religion. I believe he's out there somewhere but that's all. Now since we've gotten so far of track, is there anything else you have to tell me?" Shadow asked.

"About god or the mission?" Dead Eye asked.

"Pick one." Shadow said in that calm voice of his.

"When you put it that way...Delta wants me to travel with you for a while until he can meet up with us. Since I was actually heading to moonbase this will pose no problem to me or you as far as I can see." Dead Eye said.

"Which is unbelievably far...so I guess we just wait for him there then right?" Shadow said.

"I have to contact him and let him know where we are but yeah." Dead eye said.

"Ok then dock your ship to the port side, hatch three." Shadow said.

"I bet you like towing other people's ships around like they're nothing." Dead Eye said.

"Not really...it strains my systems. But then again your ship is the only one I can tow, it's so small. What is it, a four man ship?" Shadow asked.

"Ten." Dead Eye said, annoyed.

"Whatever...you can crash in the same room you did last time." Shadow said as he got up and started leaving the bridge "You're in charge Nerah." He said before he left.

Dead Eye beamed off and skillfully docked The Invidia to The Ira's port hatch number three and walked back aboard the Ira. Shadow was at the hatch and turned to leave as soon as Dead Eye locked the hatch. Dead Eye followed Shadow and tried to talk to him.

"So you going back to sleep?"

"Cant sleep, so I'm going to work on something's down in engineering." Shadow told him.

"Ok which was is the room I was in last time?" Dead Eye asked.

Shadow stopped and said "Nerah can light the path to his room."

"Sure thing boss." She said and the emergency lights lit up and led away to the left of them.

"Thanks Nerah." Dead Eye said and followed the lights as Shadow headed to engineering.

Ten minuets after Shadow entered engineering Dead Eye came running into the room and skidded to a stop in front of Shadow with an angry look on his face.

"What's the matter?" Shadow said in his careless voice.

"What the hell man?! The room is a pigsty and it smells like a dead cat!" Dead Eye yelled.

"I'm not a maid; I don't clean other people's messes. Unless I'm getting paid, and it's an assassination, besides...that's how you left it." Shadow said and looked up into Dead Eye's eyes when he said the last part.

"Oh...yeah, um sorry bout that." Dead Eye said and laughed.

"Next time, clean the room or I'll break your tail in five different spots."

*************

Three days later The Ira dropped out of hyperspace and was met with a disturbing sight. In orbit above Earth the I.F.H.W's entire fifth fleet; a total of thirty ships, was engaged with several ships of the A.T.W.F second and third fleets; which in total was fifteen ships, including the C.S.F Hope; flagship of the federations third fleet which barely evened the battlefield. Moonbase itself was missing several sections and there were fighters still attacking it.
