As a continued process of being in the UFFL project, I am managing one of the teams, the California Dons. What I have written here is a small fan podcast by two highly devout fans of the Dons. Hopefully I gave them enough personality to set them apart. I will do this small podcast thing after every Dons home games and I will try to put it out every Wednesday after the games.

Casters:

Myron Woods - Husky

Marco Garner - Rabbit

The California Dons is a part of the United Furry Football League. http://www.furaffinity.net/user/uffl

Welcome to Don's Nation; the #1 fan podcast of the California Dons! I'm Myron Woods and with me is Marco Garner. We are here to talk about the best team in the UFFL, the California Dons. WOO!

Garner: The best team all right. In fact, they even said it in their official twitter account after their home opener game: "Are we the best team in the UFFL? Yes; yes we are."

Woods: -Laughs- They know how to work it in the social media world. But it is true; after two games, the Dons are 2-0 in the season. Talk about a running start; they are past the competition!

G: Okay okay, Myron, we got it. And we are here to talk about the season opener game they had against the Grand Rapids Dragons. It was actually a close game; it came down to the wire at the last second. So let's get to the highlights.

W: Before we get to the highlights, have you seen the new stadium? Wow, that is a beautiful place to be in. I would not mind living there if I had the option. It has everything you need and some you don't...

G: Myron! We can talk about the stadium later. For now, let's talk about the game.

W: Oh yeah! All right, the key to this game was time management and the Dons showed them how it was done at the first drive. It was a good mix of passing and rushing with the star of the drive being Charlotte Vorce. With two passes, a rush, and another pass, the 56 yard marathon lead to a goal line rush in by Miss Vorce herself for a touchdown. She had a good game overall. In fact, she became the player of the game this week.

G: Myron! We're supposed to reveal that after the highlights.

W: Sorry, Marco. But she made it look too easy; not to mention how good looking she is...

G: Speaking of which; while the first drive went well, the second drive seemed to go the other way. I'm thinking that they were trying to go at it too fast because they tried to do a sneak fourth down play using Vorce but she couldn't get the yards needed for that first down, forcing a turnover. Now this was the Dragon's chance to turn that into something good but they too couldn't convert a fourth down when Terrence Curran passed the ball to Nathaniel Mullen and he fell short of the first down.

W: Both teams were going at it early for those fourth down plays. And I bet those two teams learned a lesson from that.

G: Indeed, Myron. Darnell Paige was the starting quarterback for the second game in a row. And while he did good, he did run into a few struggles; especially on the next drive. On third and two, he snaps the ball and scrambles to look for someone open. At the same time a big panther by the name of Tim Gorman sneaked his way through the line and got a hold of Paige for a sack. Talk about a tough break there.

W: Tough break indeed. Though I do want to break that panther when I see him.

G: You are not going to break him, Myron. He's 6'6" and 258 pounds. You are an overweight six foot tall husky.

W: And you are a 5'7" bunny!

G: Rabbit! Anyways, after the first quarter, the Dons lead it 7-0. In the second quarter we get to see the Dons strike again; this time from the defense. After a beautiful punt from Devin Wilnutzen, plus an unsportsmanlike penalty from the Dragons, cornerback Ben Gipson strips the ball away from a Flint Kurosawa pass and retrieves it just as quickly as he made it; giving the Dons a first down at the Dragon's 15 yard line. And that led to Charlotte Vorce once again running her way through to another touchdown! Dons - 14, Dragons - 0.

W: I would love to take her out to dinner after seeing that play.

G: Myron, she isn't even your type.

W: How do you know what her type is, Marco?

G: Well... I just... enough of that! We need to move on. About halfway through the quarter, the Dragons also managed to hold the ball for some time before ending up kicking a 43 yard field goal, shortening the lead to only 11; Dons 14, Dragons 3. The next drive had us scared a bit; on a first and ten, Vorce carries the ball down for another ten yards and is then tackled by Isaac Hunt and she stayed down for a while.

W: Everyone held their breaths, even me.

G: Yeah, but she propped herself right back up and showed us that she was okay. Thank goodness for that. After that short pause, the rest of the quarter went about rather quickly with the Dragons trying to put another score before halftime but to no avail when veteran Thad Meyer intercepted the ball with about 30 seconds left on the clock; keeping the score as it is at 14-3.

W: You know, Marco, I said at halftime that we had this game in the bag. There was no way that the Dragons would score on us other than that field goal.

G: You were thinking that, Myron, but the Dragons had other plans in the third quarter. But not before the Dons had their first drive at the beginning. On a second and seven, we got to see rookie Mylene Jean run and boy can that cheetah run! She sprinted off for a 35 yard gain before being stopped.

W: Mylene Jean... I like that ring to it. Something tells me that I need to start taking French. Better yet; have her teach it to me.

G: Myron, can we please go through this without you talking about how pretty the girls is in the team.

W: But they need to be complimented, even Artemis Griner. She can tackle me anytime. -growls-

G: I think I am done talking to you. After Mylene's run, the Dons managed to add more yards to the drive before eventually kicking a field goal in by Emmett Smith; making the score 17-3 Dons. And this is when the Dragons strike back. After another long drive from them, they also kick in a field goal, keeping that lead down to 11; 17-6. The next play is where we needed that mulligan and try that again. Darnell Paige snaps the ball and looks at the side before passing it to Bart DeGuilhem, which was then intercepted by Thomas Mercer who ran down the field before stepping out of bounds at the one yard line.

W: Thomas Mercer... good thing he isn't related to Samuel Mercer on our team.

G: They don't even the same species. But that interception lead to an easy first down run for a Dragons touchdown, making that lead a little tighter with the score being 13-17 Dons. Paige continued to have some problems on the field with another sack and even an interception which ended the third quarter with the Dragons starting their drive at the fourth quarter.

W: I was at the edge of my seat, Marco. If they scored then they would have been in the lead and the Dons has never lost a lead even through the preseason games.

G: I was just as worried as you were, Myron. The Dragons did score but it was only a field goal. But the lead the Dons had in the beginning has pretty much withered down to a single point with the score being 17-16. It was pretty much up to them to spread that lead more or prevent the other team from scoring any more. And the Dons stuck with the latter with the two teams pretty much playing chess up to the final two minutes. The Dragons have the ball at their own 36 yard line.

W: So they needed to travel to get to the other side and quickly.

G: But the Dons' defense had other plans. First and ten Curran gives the ball to Dusty Copperfield for a short three yard gain. Second and seven he tries again but was stuffed by Artemis Griner for no gain and they weren't even out of bounds; making the clock tick down. The Dragons had to go deep at this point. On third down Curran looks out for someone open and lobs it over to Serathin Blackfeather but ended up missing his mark.

W: Oh man, if they converted the fourth down, it would have been a miracle.

G: And a miracle it wasn't. Curran snaps the ball and just tosses it deep down the field. Ben Gipson and Flint Kurosawa raced down the field, with Gipson managing to prevent Kurosawa from making the catch and pretty much ending the game!

W: Wow! I couldn't believe the noise the fans made when that play happened. It was like there was going to be an earthquake at the center of the field.

G: We were making that same noise with them. In fact, my ears are still ringing at this point. But that sealed the deal and the Dons come up as winners once again with the score of 17-16.

W: What a game. And what a field! Did you see the food vendors they had there? They had quite a few gourmet foods available. I will have to try some of them at the next home game.

G: The field is beautiful, Myron. And with that we need to take a quick break. After that, we will talk about Scorpion Field and what all they have done to it.
