After a week of traveling we entered the forest that was behind the old lab. An hour later we reached the tunnel Luna and I used for our escape years ago. I had Luna and the children to hide out in the tunnel while I scouted the property. Where I learned the humans had built a whole new facility instead of recycling. For the most part anyway they left the old R&D building completely alone so far.

Upon my return we headed for the escape hatch to the underground bunker. Built two full stories below the main R&D building and with its own power supply. It was also protected by a security system I not only designed but, assembled also. Once we reached the hatch I pulled out my old flash drive from its hiding place. It wasn't the most comfortable place to hide such an item but, better than the alternative.

Before any of you get ahead of me I didn't hide it inside the southern exit. For the past twenty five years it's been residing inside my ear during all that time. Upon plugging the device into the USB lock then waited for the locks to release. A couple moments later a dull series of clicks sounded then the hatch opened up. Once inside the bunker I re-locked the doors and check to see if generators still worked.

From the looks of things they decided to leave the solar generators alone. With some minor tinkering on my part, I was able to get them up and running again. Next were the lights, computers and a few other things then hacked the mainframe. It didn't take me long to slip in under their security programs and poke around. As I dug around their files, including encrypted files looking for anything interesting.

For the most part all I uncovered was mostly technical data until I hit pay dirt. Sure enough I found a ghost drive, hacking into it proved a little too easy for me. Not wasting anytime I dug around the files stored within and didn't like what I saw. The humans stations here were about to begin some kind of bio-engineering project. Continuing to poke around their files I noticed a familiar name, Sierra Pearl Nolen.

"Why am I not surprised to find you doing something of this nature again?" I said. Of course my mumbling gained Luna's attention and of course she called me on it. "Take a look for yourself but, know this you're not gonna to like what you see." I replied. Walking over anyway then bent down a little and looked at the computer screen. The expression that appeared said more than words could even express.

"You don't think she'll attempt to make more of our kind for the military?" She asked. Placing my hands together then took a deep breath before giving her an answer. "It's hard to say for certain Luna and all I can do now, is keep a close eye on them. In the meantime we go hunting at night and to avoid attention use the evac tunnel." I replied. Her next question was if the humans were alerted to me being on their mainframe.

"Nope, the cool thing about my flash drive it makes sure that I can't be traced. Even if by some small chance they did and tried stopping me it won't end well. Besides if they tried to stop me they won't like the surprise that lying in wait. Anybody that hacks or works on computer knows that tracing a hidden user is risky." I winked. "That's a relief I'd hate to be discovered hiding out in the basement, Zero." She said.

"Trust me I understand how you feel hence why we should go out at night." I replied. "I've got a question father don't you think they'll come see if this place is still usable?" Gale asked. I couldn't bring myself to lie to my son and told him that's it possible but, unlikely. Though without my flash drive they won't get past any of the security doors. Considering long before they were born I foresaw many possible future outcomes.

With recent events coming to pass I made sure we had a place of safe haven. Especially on the day that Luna told me that she was pregnant with our children. "If by some stroke of luck they got past the doors the security system would activate. This building will lock down then quickly expel all intruders from the property. Though just to be on the safe I'll put a few trip mine programs into the servers." I informed.

"In the meantime why don't you and the kids make this place more comfy." I added. This level of programming would take an hour or so to complete and install. Upon being tripped anything concerning my work or even associated with it. Will be instantly removed from all servers and hard drives then properly deleted. I can not allow my old life's work to see the light of day it's far too dangerous.

After a couple of hours Luna, the kids and I finished with our projects. Once I shut the computer down I removed what items that were clearly broken. Later on tonight I'd bring that stuff out to the dumpster and try to fix the rest. Seeing as they didn't look to be in bad shape and would give me something to do. Since I'm the kind of man that needs something constructive to occupy himself with.

Considering I'll start pacing around like a caged animals which is kind of ironic. Despite it being ironic on so many levels it really goes without saying to be honest. Though I'm glad to know that I've still retained some of my human characteristics. "Hey dad mind if I make a suggestion regarding our sleeping arrangements?" Felix asked. Curious to hear what hear what he had to say I waved my hand giving him the okay.

"Perhaps using the bunker for our sleeping quarters and this lab for the rest. No sense in allowing extra space go unused since we're going to be here for awhile." He stated. Removing my flash drive from the computer then walked over to the keypad. Typing in the password then waited a moment for the electronic locks to release. "Hold on, aren't all the bio-tanks stored there I doubt there'll be any room." Luna replied.

"When I ran into Sierra years ago then she had me release you and Tendra. Upon returning here the first time after my escape there were only two tanks. Since no one has been here I doubt anything has changed during all this time. If we move them to the other side of the room we'll have plenty of sleeping space. Perhaps the tanks that weren't presently in use were dismantled to make extra room." I informed.

All of sudden the computer I had used came back on alerting my son Lucas. "Umm, father you might want to come up here and take a look at the computer screen." He said. Climbing back up the ladder and told him to give his siblings a hand in the meantime. Activating all the security cameras that were near the motion sensor that got tripped. Until I caught the person wandering around the dark uninhabited corridors.

When she reached the locked security doors that would bring her right to us. Watching her every move intently and waited to see what she was going to do. Giving the doors a shove and when they didn't budge she calmly walked away. As she rounded the corner I had the camera just up the hall to take a picture of her. Next I checked her photo with the employee roster to learn exactly who she was.

Once her file came on the screen I couldn't believe what my eyes had seen. It was Jade just how many of my old coworkers were hired to work at this facility. Though finding out wouldn't be an issue but, I was afraid to discover the truth. Deciding to leave that stone unturned for the time being and went back downstairs. Getting the lab and the bunker cleaned up took the better part of the entire afternoon.

Next thing on my list was to check the outside cameras to see if the sun set. Sure enough the sky was already darkening so we made our way out to the forest. Once clear of the tunnel I assembled a sign post to remind us of the tunnel's locale. From there Luna and I told Rogue to take her brothers out to find us some food. While they rushed off to the nearest game trail Luna could tell something was wrong.

My body language alone told her more than words could as she came over. When she asked me what was wrong I couldn't bring myself to tell her the truth. How could I tell the love of my life about everyone I used to work with years ago. It wouldn't do any good to reveal such info so for now I'll keep it to myself. What bothered me the most was my family learning every thing about their father's past.

Before Luna could ask again, our children came bounding back with dinner. "We managed to catch five good size hares and nothing else I'm afraid." Lucas said. As they went to put them down I told everyone to go inside and went hunting. Once Luna and the children were gone I went around to the parking lot. Staying in the shadows I saw Jade, Rebecca, Scott, Margret, Curtis and Hank leaving.

I watched them get into their cars, start the engines then slowly drove away. Why would Sierra go out of her way to track down all the people I worked with. Instead of wondering to myself I decided to wait for Sierra and get some answers. Hopefully this confrontation goes without causing too much of a loud ruckus. Taking a moment to locate her car then hoped into the tree nearby and waited patiently.

To be continued.
