"That's the last of them everyone and now I can truly relax after all this time. Let's hope the park rangers that're on patrol at this hour haven't come across anything." I said. "Not to be the negative one dad but, can we trust that they won't investigate?" Rogue asked. Luna was quick to tell them that whatever happens is out of our hands for now. I was inclined to agree with my wife but, something started nagging away at my mind.

Deciding that double checking on our way home shouldn't be a problem. Along the way we'd stopped randomly to see if we had missed any straggling troops. When we returned to the location where the admiral and his soldiers captured me. Sure enough a couple park rangers were snooping around like Rogue predicted. Naturally when we get back to the den Rogue is certainly going to rub it in my muzzle.

Apparently they had caught wind of something going on in this location. Normally I'd go over there and scare them off but, I just didn't have the energy. Besides they weren't going to find anything unless they went up into the mountains. I highly doubt those two rangers would make such a venture so I wasn't worried. Just in case we stuck around just to make sure nothing out of the ordinary occurred.

You find anything over there Sam?" Ranger Dave asked getting his attention. "Nothing really out of the ordinary outside a helicopter touching down here. My guess is the pilot landed for a little bit to adjust his bearings before taking off." Ranger Sam replied. Being a former recon scout for the army Dave found that a little hard to believe. As he surveyed the different trails of footprints leading away from this location.

"I hate to admit it my friend a military troop transport chopper landed here. Ten to one, one of the five branches are doing training exercises up in the mountains." Dave informed. Agreeing with what his partner said then suggested they leave before they return. Until Dave looked around for a couple minutes then he found something. "Hey, Sam mind joining me over here you gonna want to see this." He pointed out.

"Yeah, buddy what's going on?" Sam wondered walking towards his partner. Watching his arm point at what appeared to be very large paw prints of some kind. From what I understood Dave was still new to this job and didn't know about me. "Strange these prints look far too large to be a wolf's tracks, so what gives Sam?" Dave replied. Sam took a closer look at the prints Dave found and realized who made them.

"Uh-oh, these tracks belong to Zero his territory isn't far from this position. Let's get out of here cause he doesn't take kindly to humans inside his territory." Sam stated. Dave stood up straight upon hearing my name and asked his partner regarding me. "I'll put it simply you don't want to meet him without having Helan around." He replied. With that they got back into their jeep and drove all the way back to their outpost.

Gale wondered if we should follow them to make sure they didn't find anything. "No, besides our den isn't far away from the outpost and we can go there whenever." I replied. That seemed to satisfy their curiosity for the most until Rogue added her input. "Father what should we do to prevent them from coming back in a big group?" She asked. Upon seeing my footprints they know better than to do something so foolish.

"Rogue, the rangers know they can't enter our turf without Helan present. Knowing Helan like your mother and I do she's waiting patiently for us at the den." I stated. Naturally the minute we reached the entrance then calmly made our way inside. Helan was sitting near the campfire she started when she got here sometime ago. "See what did I tell Rogue she'd be waiting for us to get back." I smiled lying down.

The greeted her with hugs before going to their bunks while she began talking. Though before she could speak Luna beat her to the punch and told her everything. When she finished Helan was quiet for a few minutes then leaned forward some. "Seeing as that's the case you did what you thought was best at the time. Granted the only question I've got left is what do you intend to do now?" She wondered.

"Considering I don't think it's wise to remain here should the worse happen." She added. Taking a moment to contemplate a solution that wouldn't be mass suicide. "To be honest I don't know but, I agree with you something should be done. Granted I don't like to say this, perhaps relocating ourselves someplace else." I replied. Of course Helan and Luna were curious as to where we could possible go to.

"Granted it isn't the most ideal place but, it's the only place they won't search. The lab complex you and I were reborn at, like I said not the most ideal place." I said. Luna scowled at me just for mention that hell hole then brought up this point. "Despite that being true for all we know love that place could be up and running. Besides it's not like any of us can go out and rent a nice hotel room anywhere, Zero." She replied.

"You know my baby sister owns a wildlife preserve maybe she could help. I could give her a call when I get back to my cabin and ask her to lend you a hand. Before you get ahead of me I won't tell her everything enough to get her onboard." Helan said. The only problem with that is coming up with an excuse that wouldn't cause trouble. "She'd probably let you stay if I told her this place is readjusting the population" She added.

"I think we'd best check the lab out just in case that doesn't pan out, Helan." Luna said. All four children asked us if we serious about leaving to go somewhere else. "Yes, this place is no longer a safe haven for our family so moving is the only option. I don't like this anymore than you do but, this is out of my hands so off to bed everyone. We'll be leaving here just as the sun rises over the northern mountains." I informed.

With that our children climbed into their beds and tried to get some sleep. While we escorted Helan home she was curious to know how long it would take. "According to my calculation it was a two week trip from here all the way there. Even if we rest once or twice along the way while trying to avoid any problems." I replied. Once at Helan's front porch she wished us luck and walked inside her cabin.

During the remaining hours of the night we gathered plenty of food for the trip. Carrying them back to the den where we cuddled by the fire and drifted off to sleep. When the morning sun peeked over the mountains Luna was the first to awaken. Followed by Rogue, our sons then myself after a quick bath down at the lake. We enjoyed a hearty breakfast, packed all the supplies we could carry then said goodbye.

The first place we went was Helan's cabin so the kids say goodbye to their aunt. With tears in her eyes she stood on her porch and watched us fade into the distance. It's been twenty five year since Luna and I left that horrid place in our memories. We could just imagine what kind of condition that place could be in today. Upon reaching the preserves east boundary everyone took one last long look at our home.

I couldn't blame any of our children for not wanting to leave their birthplace. If the admiral hadn't come back into our lives we could've lived in complete safety. Seeing as our only chance was to return to the place where it began for Luna and I. This venture would be extremely difficult for us than it would be for our children. To be honest going to that wildlife sanctuary sounded like the better alternative.

Honestly there was too much that could've gone wrong with that venture. Granted Helan's heart was in the right place but, I can't trust some one I don't know. Besides this was a golden opportunity to teach the kids how to hunt on the move. While traveling from place to place it would sharpen their skills a great deal more. Also it'd help them learn to hunt on the go in event something like this repeats itself.

To be continued.
