#2 of Math Class

Here's chapter 2 of Math Class!

It took a while, but here it is!

School is hectic so uploads will very infrequent as I'll have to devote my writing time to labs and essays.

Here's a playlist to set the mood for this chapter: https://soundcloud.com/yawny-cat/sets/rain

Enjoy!

After a few days of light snow, it began to rain. The town quickly descended into an ugly hash of brown slush and bare trees.

I'l begrudgingly admit that I began to enjoy math class. Mainly because of my and Jack's shared hate of numbers.

If there's one thing that's better than hating math, its hating math with your friend!

7:20 AM 11-19-20xx

I saw Jack waiting at the bus stop as I approached. "Adrien!" he shouted "You're so slowwww!"

"Sorry!" I said with a smile "At least I'm not late..."

"That's true." Jack studied me for a second "Why aren't you wearing a raincoat?"

"Well I uh..."

I had rushed out of the house and hadn't realized it was raining until now. It was one of those dreary days where nothing looked pleasant, the snow on the ground was heavy and wet, the roads were coated in salt, and the air smelled like old cigarettes and water.

"Here, stand under my umbrella." He grabbed me by the shoulder and pulled me under it. The umbrella cast a red glow on everything under it, which provided some much needed warmth to today's desolate color palette.

As soon as I was getting comfortable, I saw the glaring headlights of the bus down the street.

7:28 AM 11-19-20xx

The bus was never much warmer than the outside, but it never bothered me. It was a 'balmy' 40 degrees outside and to be blunt, the weather was shit. However, for the first time in a while, the bus was pleasant. The red emergency exit light was reflecting on the fog and the droplets covering the window, making me think of Christmas.

3:23 PM 11-19-20xx

"You can come to my house if you'd like."

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Yeah of course! Unless you don't want to." Jack stuck out his tongue.

4:03 PM 11-19-20xx

Jack's house was a pale blue, with a simple design. Rain was dripping off the roof, a garden hose lay strewn across the driveway, and the garden was full of the remains of this spring's flowers.

As we stepped inside I was surprised to see how clean it was, candles were burning on the table, the kitchen was spotless, it's almost as if they were expecting company.

"Are you hungry?" Jack asked. I shook my head. "Thirsty?"

"I guess..."

"Is orange crush alright?" I actually gasped when I heard this. "What? Do you like orange soda as much as I do?"

"I love it! Probably more than you!" My voice was filled with excitement.

"I doubt it, I'm the king of OC." Jack sung as he struck a royal pose.

We were sat on the couch enjoying our 'high fructose corn syrup' and 'artificial flavors' when Jack asked "Wanna hear an awful pun?"

"Mm hmmm" I responded, my mouth full of soda.

"I tried my first soft drink, it was _soda_licious!"

This made me spit out my drink all over the coffee table, I fell onto the floor with my hands and knees. I was laughing so hard it probably looked like I was convulsing. I could barely breathe. I lost track of time, but when I finally calmed down, Jack was next to me, wiping my spat soda off of the table.

"I had no idea you liked puns so much." He smiled.

"O-only awful ones." I was still catching my breath.

Jack took my paws and helped me onto my feet. "Ready to see my room?" He suggested. I noticed he was still holding my paws.

"I... uh... yeah." I responded.

"Good!" He let go of only one of my paws, and lead me upstairs. We went to the second door on the right. "You ready?"

Jack quickly opened the door to his room. "TA-DA!"

It was a second-floor room, so it had s slanted ceiling. These were painted a dark blue. His bed sat in one corner, the rest of his room was occupied with a computer desk, a comfortable looking couch, and a modest TV. The walls had some pictures of him and people I didn't recognize, and his shelves were lined with CDs, soccer trophies, and a few textbooks.

"Isn't it great?!" He yipped.

"Yeah... much cooler than mine" (My room was almost bare as we had just moved in)

"C'mere" Jack lead me to the couch and sat me down. "What do you wanna play?"

8:30 PM 11-19-20xx

"You should really come over more often, Adrien!"

"Well I would invite you to my house but I don't have much to do."

"Yeah..." Jack cocked his head.

Jack was walking me back to my place. (I said he didn't have to, it was cold and windy; but he insisted, chivalrous as always) It was less than a minute's walk and we were at my doorstep.

"Thanks again for having me over!"

"No! Thank you for coming over." He looked at the ground "See you tomorrow." I detected sadness in his voice. We would see each other early tomorrow morning, does he have some kind of separation anxiety?

"Yup! See you tomorrow!" I said with a smile. Jack grinned back at me, then jogged back home as I shut the front door.

I can't wait to see him tomorrow!

Thanks for reading! I'm trying harder to focus on descriptions...

Sorry again that it took me so long to come out with this, writing helps me clear my head, but it's still very tiring!
