Prologue

The wolfess panted heavily as she threw open the tattered wooden doors, a loud cracking of thunder announcing her arrival. Her shadow stretching out on the sandstone floor as another bolt of lightning split the sky behind her. Sakari's red-brown fur was plastered to her slender form. The gold and orange kimono that she wore clung to her every curve, strands of purple hair hung down over her long wolven muzzle. She walked into the antechamber and out of the rain, her large foot-paws slapped the stone tiled floor wetly as she walked along the passage. Another flash of lightning filled the room with light and cast her shadow onto an inner set of doors. Gripping the metal handles, she noticed that they were textured to feel like dragon scales. Grunting, Sakari pulled the heavier wooden doors open with some difficulty.

The wolfess' bright lavender eyes widened as she peered into a massive hall. It was lined with rows of benches, a red sandstone path ran down to the alter that sat at the other end of the corridor. She slowly walked down the alley and glanced up the tall pillars that held up the crumbling ceiling. Wrapping around the pillars were the tails of stone dragons. The dragons clung to the tops of the pillars, wings spreading out to cover the pews from rail that poured from the holes in the roof. Towards the front of the shrine she saw that the benches were broken and thrown against the walls in a horribly violent manner.

Sakari turned her head to look up at the altar, she saw the black silhouette of a tall male facing away from her; created by an unknown light source. His long tail that whipped around wildly while his cloak was being tossed around in the wind.

Growling deeply, the wolf gripped her katana tighter, the long blade glowed with every lightning strike. The blade of the sword was held in the jaws of a golden wolf head; its eyes were deep green emeralds that stared up at her blankly.

Between each flash of lightning, her eyes had to adjust to the dimly lit room, the source coming from on the alter behind the male's shape, sending his shadow over her body. "Zerataph, You've got to stop this!" She barked out.

The male turned his head, showing bright, but colorless eyes. "Leave, Sakari. There's nothing you can do to stop me, now. Not when I'm so close to achieving the power that I deserve!" He growled out deeply before returning his attention to the alter. The dragon morph stood in front of a stone block, carved out of marble and was decorated with branches carved around the edges of the pedestal. In the center was the outline of a dragon. Its tail was curled around into its muzzle to make a circle. The wings were outstretched to the occupy the entire right side. Sticking out of the marble was a long sword. Though this wasn't an ordinary steel sword. The entire length of the blade was made from a large beast's tail vertebra. Short spines ran down the edge of the sword and were sharpened to create a serrated edge, curved backwards much like a saw. Gripping the cloth wrapped hilt with his long fingers, Zerataph gave the sword a sharp tug.

A sharp crack resounded in the hall before a low grinding replaced it. Zerataph roared out as he lifted it over his head, the lightning and thunder growing more intense. A rogue bolt shot through the open roof and shattered the pedestal, sending shrapnel in every direction.

As her vision returned, Sakari saw a bright red form fly out of the destroyed alter. The form was about the size of her head and looked to be made of fire. Spreading out, it grew to look much like the outline of a dragon with massive wings. A sharp roar filled the shrine before the flames flew out of the open hole in the roof. Moments after it left, another shape shot out into the night air, a dull brown colored form of energy, long tendrals growing out of it's for. A bright green and a light blue form soon followed and shot off in seconds. Lastly a black shape launched itself from the stone, this one much larger than any of the previous ones. It lingered for a moment before it shot around the room and circled above their heads.

The dark form flew to the end of the hall and roared before it streaked towards the two. Her eyes widened as she threw herself to the ground, her sword scraping on the stone as the black energy hit Zerataph hard square between his shoulder blades, causing the dragon morph to stumble forward. Zerataph's laughter filled the halls. Turning around to face Sakari, she could see his eyes glowing in the dark, the once silver iris turning black in color. A band of his bare, silver chest became stained in the same deep black. "W-What have you done!" She stood back up and howled at the male.

He grinned broadly, his bright white teeth gleamed, even in this dull lighting. "You want to find out so badly, Pup?" He antagonized her, lifting the long sword and pointing it down at the female wolf. "Why don't you follow me and find out. I want you to see everything that I've learned." He stepped down a single step before Sakari launched her attack.

The anthropomorphic wolf lifted her katana above her head as she sailed through the air towards her enemy. Zerataph pulled the sword back before jabbing forward violently, a thick bolt of lightning flashed and connected their swords for a split second. Sakari was thrown backwards with a sharp yelp of pain. She hit the ground, her body twitching as her fur crackled with the remnants of the electricity. Her lavender eyes stared up and saw that her sword was half buried in one of the pillars. Shifting her vision down, Sakari lifted her paws and saw deep burn marks tore over her over them, the flesh over her paws and part way up her forearm was blackened, her fur singed off from the heat of the strike.

Her body grew heavy, her paws dropping onto the cold stone floor as her vision began to turn hazy and dark. Zerataph stepped over her, his form nothing more than a black blur. "You'll never be stronger than me, Sakari." He hissed down at her. She felt the male's heavy foot slam into her jaw, a sharp crack filled her ears, her vision flashed bright red before fading fully into black, her form becoming limp as the dragon walked off with sword in claw.
