Let's get to know Jade a little better. She's NOT a kitty cat you want to mess around with.

Feedback, as always is welcome, appreciated, and desired!

Jade took off at a dead run from the alley where she had been hidden, charging with reckless abandon at the soldiers in black who had captured Zel and Alan. She had waited until the Van had pulled around front and they were all coming out to place the two captives inside. The van obscured their view, and made it possible for her to get closer to them. But in a twist of ill luck, the driver of the van looked out of the window and saw her coming. No matter, he didn't even have time to give the soldiers warning.

She launched herself into the air, touched briefly on the van's roof, and finally came down behind the van; behind the men who had shot her commander as though he were a common animal to be put down. She only had one target, however. Hurtling through the open glass doors of the Café, she ran straight towards the white cat who was speaking to another soldier in hushed tones. At that moment, the driver shouted, and the cat looked up, his mouth falling open and his eyes going wide with surprise as she rocketed towards him at a dead run, one arm held out to the side. The soldier turned, raising his weapon as he did so, He began to say something, but was cut short as Jade's outstretched arm caught him in the throat.

"Halt, you are no-graak!!!" The force of the impact hurled him into the cashier's desk.

The cash register flew against the wall and literally exploded into pieces, the drawer flying open and money raining down upon the unconscious soldier. Not stopping or slowing down, Jade proceeded to jump feet first onto the wall and catapult backwards, landing on all fours in front of the white cat who had attacked her friend. A cold fury coursed through her veins, and she stood up slowly, menacingly... She turned to face the terrified looking anthro, her breath coming in ragged bursts.

Who... What on earth are you?" The cat said, horror showing plainly on his face as he looked into the eyes of the black cat looming above him.

Her deep violet eyes were glowing brightly, and luminous purple smoke trailed slightly from her tear-ducts.

"You attacked my commanding officer... You shot my friend..." She stated in between ragged breaths. Her fury began to grow, and the smoke trailing from her eyes began to fog her vision; "I am... The last person you will ever see."

Lunging with her entire body, she grabbed the cat and broke his neck with a sharp twist and a loud snap. His body sagged, and fell off of the chair. For a moment, she fought to control her anger... losing control here would only do harm.... And besides, she had orders to fulfil. "As the fastest, and most skilled free-runner in our team, I would need YOU to be able to get to the rest of the team and warn them if something unexpected were to happen." Well, something unexpected had definitely happened... somebody had come for Alan before them...

Alan, one of the last people with knowledge of the resistance left on earth... The person who could help them, was now in desperate need of their help. Turning around, she spared a glance at the men who were now entering the room, weapons drawn and leveled at her chest.

"Take her alive. She's valuable." The foremost man said, his voice muffled by the balaclava that all of them wore.

The rest of the men began to spread out, creating a half circle amidst the tables and chairs. There were fifteen of them. Far too many to handle on her own. Jade swore vehemently, before overturning the table in front of her, and bolting out the back door.

Once she was outside, she turned and launched herself into the air again, gripping the edge of the roof. For a one story building, this one was slightly higher than most, and her hands barely grasped the top of the ledge. Gritting her teeth, she kicked off of the wall, flinging herself over the ledge and onto the roof; she landed on her feet at a flat run. The man who came out first saw her, however, and he grabbed onto the service ladder beside the door, following in pursuit. Jade looked back, and smiled grimly. '

Fools. Nobody can catch me once I start moving.' She thought, weaving in and around various obstacles in her path. However, the man ran after her, feet pounding on the asphalt roof, and instead of dodging and weaving as she was, he began leaping over air conditioning units and loose shingles. He was actually gaining on her! Jade ran around the obstacles in her path, conserving her energy, but this man didn't even slow down, hurdling each object in his path like an Olympic runner.

Jade's breath was coming in short, quick bursts, and the man was now directly behind her, body tilted forward, arms pumping. He would catch her! He was too close and she could not outrun him! Unless...

Throwing caution to the wind, Jade turned and hurled herself off of the edge of the building, towards the sheer concrete surface that made up a four story apartment building next to the café. The man skidded to a halt, arms closing just out of reach of her thighs as she flew through the air, arms outstretched. Taking a sharp breath, Jade braced herself for the impact, but she still slammed into the side of the building like a rag doll.

She began to fall rapidly, her breath having been knocked out of her in the impact. She was dazed, but her outstretched claws somehow gripped the porous surface of the wall, and she was able to stop herself. Shaking her head, and running up a short ways, she turned around and stuck her tongue out at the man below her, pulling back one eyelid to make the gesture even more insulting. The man simply pointed his gun at her, opening fire with a spray of bullets.

Jade swore and began to scramble up the wall. Apparently, this man didn't care about taking her alive anymore. One of the bullets found its mark, slamming into her shoulder, and making her cry out in shock and pain. The soldier ran out of ammunition very quickly however, and he started yelling into a communicator at his wrist. Jade could barely make out what he was saying, but she caught a few words.

"...requesting back-up at..... teams one and two... multiple casualties..."

Clenching her jaw against the pain, she struggled to continue her rapid ascent. 'Good luck, boys, you'll need it. Nobody can outrun me.' She thought to herself, using her good arm to vault over the short railing at the top of the building. However, just then, she heard three words that made her blood run cold.

"Requesting Air Support!"

Jade swore fervently under her breath as she ran along the roof of the building she had just scaled. If these men had the resources necessary to bring air support into a chase, then it could only mean the end of the peace that the world had experienced since the fall of the regimes that had dominated the globe years earlier. She estimated that she had about five to ten minutes before air support would arrive. She needed to find a safe place to hide before then, or she was done for.

Running with reckless abandon, she began to look around for open windows, a fire escape, a dumpster, anything that she could use to hide from her pursuers. Seeing nothing of that sort, however, she began to panic. 'there's nothing here!' she thought frantically, and just then, on the roof of a building up ahead, men with guns began to file out of a stairwell.

"There!" One of them shouted, pointing at her.

She growled in frustration. Seeing no other alternatives, she didn't even slow as she ran directly towards the men. They froze in surprise and shock when she threw herself off the ledge, which was nearly six feet away from where they stood, and landed right in the middle of them. They immediately recovered, however, and began to close her in, grabbing her arms and trying to force her to the ground.

Smiling, grimly, Jade began to gather her will, and a force began to build inside of her. If there had ever been a good time to unleash her abilities, it was now. All of the members of her team had some sort of ability. The result of being subject to experiments many years earlier. Jade had the ability to create fluctuations in the gravity of the earth. Under ordinary circumstances, it would be easy, she had trained with her ability for hours on end with the resistance; but the injury in her shoulder sent constant spikes of pain through her mind with every heart-beat.

It was worse than that, though, because as she used her ability, her heart rate sped up and increased in pressure. She could feel blood matting the fur of her back, and it wouldn't be long before she would become dizzy from blood loss. Panting roughly, she struggled to concentrate. Failing to control her ability could have disastrous consequences, as the forces within her would have to escape through any means necessary. Finally, losing her patience, she gathered her will and released it in one quick burst, the men holding onto her seemed to be thrown away from her with incredible force, many of them sailing off of the edge of the building before normal gravity reasserted itself, and they fell, screaming to the concrete below.

Jade staggered from the rush of dizziness. She hadn't realized how much blood she had lost. She turned, and saw a long spatter of blood where it had been ejected from her wound as though from an arterial vein. Too much, too fast... Her blood pressure had undergone a massive spike when she had used her ability. She was supposed to ease into things like that; patience had never been her strong suit.

The men who had been fortunate enough to merely get thrown backwards didn't have time to stand up as she ran forward again and leapt off the edge of the building, plummeting two stories to the roof below. She landed and immediately went into a roll, scraping her shoulder on the rough surface of the asphalt roof. She did not even notice, however, because at just that moment, she heard it. The thumping of helicopter blades, and coming not just from one direction, but two! Swearing between each ragged breath, she stood up and began to run, a fire escape coming into view just as the first helicopter came over the rise of a nearby building and spotted her.

Jade screamed in anger at the fact that her salvation had come into view at the worst possible moment. It was useless to her now. She jumped onto the ladder and began to climb rapidly, making it to the top of the building and pitching herself forward at a flat run, she knew it was futile to try to outrun her new pursuers. Once air support arrived, it was time for tactical retreat. However, upon further inspection, these were no ordinary choppers. The helicopter swung towards her, the side door hanging open, and a machine gun trained on her chest. This would not work. Jade slowed down near the edge of the building, raising her hands into the air. Another helicopter came over the nearest rooftop to swing towards her as well, the side-door open, and a gunner in the side-seat. Men began to pour from a stairwell behind her, fanning out across the roof to approach her with caution.

Tears of anger and shame began to blur her vision. She had failed. Her commander had given her one purpose, and she had failed him. She had failed everyone. 'Zel, I'm sorry.' She thought. Gritting her teeth in frustration, she felt herself being grabbed from behind, strong hands forcing her to her knees. She could taste the bitterness of defeat on her lips. The simple fact that she had been captured now meant that the rest of the team would soon follow. Once they knew about her powers, they would torture her endlessly until she gave up the location of her remaining allies.

Just then, ahead of her, something that shook her to her very core occurred. The white cat stepped out of the helicopter that hovered near the edge of the roof. He was alive, and unharmed. His arm healed, his neck intact. Grinning in an amused manner, he stepped up to her, tilting her chin with a finger. "You, my dear, have shown yourself to be quite powerful. But the facts remain. You are not strong enough to stop what is happening. You weren't even strong enough to kill me! You and all those like you will fail, each in their own time. The purpose that we follow is too great to be stopped, and it will succeed! All of the inferior beings in this world shall be cleansed from its surface, and a new age shall begin! And you, my dear, are going to help it all become possible. You will serve us. Either of your own volition, or through your own pain and misery." The cat turned to one of the men, "Bind her, and load her in the chopper. We are already too far behind schedule."

Jade looked up at the cat with hatred and rage, her eyes began to burn, and a supremely powerful force began building within her. This force was somehow different than the usual slow build up of will that usually came before one of her bursts... This force was fueled by a seething hatred that ran deeply through every fiber of her being, and as it continued to grow, she feared that it would rip her apart. There was nowhere for it to go, no venue through which to channel it, however, and violet smoke began to pour from her tear-ducts. Her eyes began seething and glowing like the burning fires of hell itself. She opened her mouth to growl, and smoke puffed with each breath like a mist before dissipating. "You..." She spat, and the cat turned, a mildly concerned expression on his face. "I will never serve you!" She screamed, and the cat flinched as puffs of smoke and heat accompanied each word. Jade smiled at the fear in his eyes, and suddenly, the force surged, becoming a burning, fiery inferno, molten steel racing through every vein. She screamed in rage and pain, with a voice that could be heard for miles as though it were amplified by some vast force. Suddenly, the power raging within her became too much, and her entire body began to throw out great waves of energy, her very pores becoming the outlet through which this force surged; the waves of energy throwing everyone within range back, and forcing them to the ground. The helicopter nearest her began to lose control, bucking and swaying in the sudden turbulence. And just as suddenly as it had come, the force left, but in its place, there was a new determination.

Standing, and pitching forward, she leapt after the helicopter that had begun to tilt and spin wildly, catching one of the skis with just one hand. Reaching up with the other, she grabbed the gunner's boot, and used it to pull herself into the chopper. The man was strapped into a harness, holding on for dear life. Bracing herself, Jade slashed the harness to pieces with one clawed hand. The man flew out the side and plummeted to the ground, his parachute opening much too late, as he crashed into an outdoor table and lay still and unmoving.

Turning, Jade pushed her way into the front of the wildly careening helicopter. The pilot looked over at her in alarm. "It ends here!" Jade yelled at him, over the sound of the blades. Grabbing onto the console, she kicked open the door, and slashed the restraints holding the man in the seat. He held onto the sides of his chair however, managing to stay in the chopper. But he had let go of the controls. "Fine!" She yelled, and grabbed the joystick, forcing the chopper to steady with inhuman strength, the force beginning to surge within her once more. She turned, and kicked the man out of the seat. He fell eighty feet to the ground, landing on the open awning of a restaurant window, tearing through it, and hitting the pavement below in a crumpled heap. She swung herself into the pilot's chair, and turned the chopper, so that it was pointing at the roof of the building. "Sayonara boys." She said, flicking the safety cap off of the trigger that controlled the mini-guns attached to the sides of the chopper. She opened fire on the men scattered upon the roof. They never stood a chance, and in moments they were all either wounded or dead. The white cat, however, was nowhere to be found. No matter. Jade turned and aimed at the other helicopter, flicking the switch to change the payload to rockets. The chopper had been hovering in the air, trying to make sense of the confusion, but now began to turn to aim at Jade. She didn't waste any time opening fire, and the other helicopter went down in a roiling ball of flames.

Finally, opening the door once again and taking the key out of the ignition, she leapt clear of the helicopter as it went down, coming to a rolling stop on the roof she had left just moments ago. She paused for a few minutes to catch her breath and calm her racing heart rate. The enormous burst of adrenaline she had felt had kept her on her feet, without feeling the effects of the blood loss or exhaustion, but for a moment, it was all she could do to stay conscious. Finally recovering, she wandered among the dead and wounded until she found one who was still conscious. 'Time to gather some information.' She thought. What group of rebels could possibly have so many men under their command, not to mention helicopters and automatic weapons? Why hadn't she ever heard about them when she was working with the resistance? Pulling away the mask, however, she discovered that the "man in black" was not a man at all! It was a fox, with pure white fur and ice blue eyes. Her muzzle slightly stained with a bit of bloody spittle where she had coughed up blood. "Who are you?" Jade demanded, pressing her foot against the fox's chest hard enough to cause pain. The fox simply giggled hysterically, more blood coming up to her lips. "You don't know already, little cat? I thought you were smart, being able to defeat us all the way you did... I guess maybe I was wrong... Poor, poor kitty cat. You will burn with the rest of the mongrels." The fox began to choke on her own blood, still giggling insanely. Jade grunted, and turned the fox onto her side so that she could breathe again before standing up and moving to another figure in black.

"The times are changing, we will rise from the shadows of depravity, out of the smog filled ruins of our society, above the stench of the lesser beings that surround us... We will reign, for that is what we are meant to do, and any who dare to oppose us will burn upon the field of battle... Nothing will stand in the way of our might..." Jade moved on after listening to the human whose face she had uncovered drone on in a dead voice for a few minutes. They were all the same, whether human or anthro... all of them seemed to be brain-washed into thinking that they were supreme beings, and all of them were albino white. The colors of their eyes varied, but the only consistent features were the stark white fur or hair, and the total lack of new information.

Moving to the edge of the roof, she looked down, and immediately regretted it. Below, it looked as though a bomb had gone off. The wreckage of the burning choppers was still ablaze, twin pillars of smoke rising into the sky. If she was lucky, they would obscure her from the people below; and there were a lot of people. Police lights strobed and crowds of civilians were milling about as if in shock. They were clearly waiting for someone to tell them what to do. No-one seemed to be in charge... After a moment of thought, Jade leaned over the edge and shouted, "Hey! What are you all doing just standing around down there! There are wounded up here! I need paramedics up here immediately!" Scanning the group, she spotted a tall man with a shock of wavy black hair, in the uniform of a Guardian, or police officer. She pointed at him, "You man! Who's in charge?" She shouted in her best authoritative voice. The man looked confused, and responded "No one, mam. We're still awaiting orders!" Jade tried not to smile. This would work. "Then I'm issuing a field commission! You're in charge here! Get those civilians back to the other side of the street, and I need transportation, on the double!" The man looked dazed. "Do you understand me? I just gave you an order! MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. Standing to attention, the young man saluted and began to gather his fellow officers together and push the growing throng of people back, yelling to a guardsman to give her the keys of his patrol bike.

Jade smiled at the young man before her. "Excellent work, kid. I'll send someone back from the precinct once I make my report." Jade lied smoothly, mounting the patrol bike. She had managed to avoid being overly questioned so far, but for safe measure, she started up the sirens, discouraging any further conversation from the overwhelmed young guardsman before her. The man saluted, his curls bouncing as his chest swelled with pride. "Safe trip back, ma'am!" He tried to yell over the din, but Jade simply returned the salute, then revved twice and rode away. _'Hang in there, Zel... I promised I wouldn't let you down... I'll find you...' _

Jade gritted her teeth against the pain in her shoulder, and rode as fast as the bike would allow, sirens blazing a path through traffic for her as she pushed the 'borrowed' patrol bike to its limits. 'Please hold on...'
