Chapter 2: War of our fathers

*present day*

Not quite a month ago, the Perth started attacking Nordic traders along the Corinthian borders and Corinthian traders at the Nordic mountains, causing strife between them, the two nations accused each other of fault and began to close borders and take to the courts. But as they argued, both were unaware of the real situation, that this was in fact a ruse from the Perth, (who has not been seen or heard of in nearly five hundred years) to secretly, and resourcefully kidnap the children of both the Ruí and Gandi? families.

Both being the founding tribes of the respective nations this is an extremely distressful situation, and before they know it Perth had taken the two children out into the dessert, and after understanding the subterfuge of the Perth, Corinth and the Nords both joined forces to get their heirs back.

But before they could do anything, the Perth started massing huge forces towards Corinth, knowing they had the strongest military.

Corinth had to fight tens of thousands of Perth just to keep them from getting to the harbor.

One thing the Perth did not know, the one thing they never prepared for, was that the two nations had already formed an Elite Co Op Infiltration Unit, equipped with the best soldiers and spies from each nation, the idea was to use this group as a sign of Peace and Cooperation between Canines and Felines, to help snuff out the rising pirate threat, but now it seems to be the only chance to not bring peace, but to save their nations from the Perth.

Who again have not been seen in over four hundred years, but now it seems they were only in hiding...but there is a question that still remains, and perhaps requires more attention than one would realize...Why now? Why wait a half millennia to hatch up a seemingly short sighted plan?

These were the questions the Nords wanted answered, so using the fog of war they discreetly dispatched a small but resourceful team to (at first), find the children's location, then gather more information about these other issues.

it wasn't until two weeks after they set out, that they were able to gather enough intel to point west, towards the Citadel Ponte, a massive fortified underground castle of sorts spanning along the edge of a cliff nearly a thirteen-hundred feet above sea water, with only one way in or out, through a cave inlet half way down the face of the cliff a little more than five hundred feet from sea level and the rocks below. With that, their options are few. They have to either bomb the Ponte until it cracks open and they can get inside and hope they don't collapse the entire Cliffside into the ocean, or send a small group of commandos in through the hole inside the cliff and trust that they can fight through whatever is in there and somehow get out alive with the two kids.

But in the meantime the Corinthian borders were shrinking, the endless onslaught of suicidal reptiles was taking its toll on the Canines as they were beginning to get inside the city, and attack civilians.

While the Nords had fairly easily dispelled the few hundred soldiers they had, they were unable to assist the Corinthians due to a dense cloud of smoke rising from the Citadel Ponte, blowing across the dessert obstructing any safe passage. With as few fighters they had, they could not afford to risk losing even a hand full.

Because of this, the two cities agreed on using both plans, using their newly formed Elite Infiltration team already in Hålldr, the Nords will send them down the coastline by air in a pararotor, and parachute into the Cliffside entrance; While Corinth sends a group of fighter jets equipped with unguided gravity fed high explosives, and air to land missiles in hopes of at least bringing attention away from the Commandos.

But they would have to find a squadron willing to give up the fight at Corinth...

"I don't understand why we're not in the air already!?" Isaac yells as he struggles with his flight suit.

Damn suit! Ugh, I keep telling them I'm not a bloody jackal.

Heh, you ok there Kilo? Asks Liam McKinley, Isaacs's wing mate.

Damn bastards gave me another jackal suit and the stupid tail hole's not big enough.

Ha! That's what she said! Liam laughs.

Screw you Liam...I don't get it? Either I get a wolf jacket that looks like a friggin dress on me, or they give me something like this! Isaac yells as he looks like he's trying to pull sand out of his trousers.

At this rate, by the time we actually get to shoot anything it's going to be to burn the friggin dead bodies! Isaac yells aloud as he gives up fussing with his tail and just stuffs it down his pant leg.

Oh, hey Isaac!

Sterecore, here we go again. Isaac sighs as he turns away and pretends to check his jets fuel line. (He already checked it three times now)

I think I've finally figured out why you're not flying!

Well hello there Jordan! I'm so excited that you were willing to grace us with your presence! Isaac replies, as he turns and "bows" to the rival squad leader.

You see, we are fighting for a "Noble" so there's really no point to sending a mutt out there to get everyone killed by an undisciplined bastard child.

Yeah, well at least I'm not an insestial prick like you. Isaac responds without hesitation.

What? The jackal replies with a quizzical look after not being able to really understand Isaacs's remark.

Oh god. Isaac facepalms.

What I meant was: What's it like sleeping with your cousin?

Excuse me? Jordan yells as he approaches Isaac.

You heard me...Or maybe you don't understand?

You see, all "Noble" blood-lines that you all care so much about started with one family, so that means your "mate" is really your second or third cousin...it must be really weird when she starts to sound like your mother when she's under you. Says Isaac with a sparkle in his eye knowing he's hit a nerve. Or is she more like your father I wonder?

You know what, screw you okay...I don't have to deal with a good for nothing mutt like you. The jackal huffs clenching his fist so hard you can see his veins bulging from under the fur.

So? Isaac exclaims as he steps up into the face the jackal.

What are you gonna do about it? Oh I see it in your eyes, the same look I've gotten all my years. All that anger all the rage pumping through your veins like acid, eating away at you like water dripping on a hot stove, just begging you to turn up the heat...

...you think you scare me? I've fought poodles that would make you look like a Bitch Jordan.

And after that they both threw punches, scraped and clawed at each other, but before any real damage began the Chief Comandant Cameron Yù-Fang noticed the commotion and proceeded to make his presence felt...

HEY! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TWO DOING! He yells as he pulls the two off of each other; with one being more bloodied then the other.

We have an army of Perth attacking our city, a noble kidnapped, two nations at the brink of being under siege, and you two are FIGHTING? REALLY!? Cameron yells as he holds the two canines up, while trying not to get blood on his uniform.

THIS IS PATHETIC! We are all canines here. We all have a right to fight for our city, for our people! Every one of us has a reason for being here! The Comandant finishes as he looks over each one of these two.

Jordan... clean yourself off, and return to your squad. The Chief sighs.

Isaac... I need you to come with me.

What? But sir they are about to call us out! Isaac pulls himself back from the Comandant.

You're not being called out for this one Isaac. Cameron answers as he grabs Isaacs shoulder and walks him to his office.

Oh come on!! It was just a fight!? I didn't even start it this time! He wa-

It's not about the fight... the Comandant replies as they enter his office.

...though we will have to deal with that at some point; but right now I am sending you north. Hålldr needs air support for their raid on the Citadel. I need you to go and help them out.

Uh...I'll just repeat myself, what? You can't expect us...you can't expect ME to leave this fight to help out a couple of smug cats fit through a hole in the middle of the dessert?

I'm not...wait. How did you know about that? The Chief Comandant replies with a quizzical look as he sits down at front of his desk.

I'm a pilot, not stupid...I may've snuck into this office sometime this morning to see what was scheduled. Isaac responds with a smirk... I for one was not expecting you to follow through on it though.

Yeah well, it's not up to you to decide whether or not to go. It's an order.

Ugh...fine. When do you want us to leave?

Yesterday...look Isaac, I need you to understand something. This was not sanctioned by the Nobles, they already plan on me giving Jordan this task... in fact I should be telling him this instead of you.

What are you saying sir? Isaac asks with a faint line of distress.

Something else is at play here, and I'm afraid the House of Repose are in on it. I can't trust that he will follow through with the mission. I need you to go ahead into Hålldr with your squadron, but I need you to be as discreet as possible; I will run in interference for as long as I can, but Isaac, if...when they find out... just keep your head down okay? Says the Comandant with his paw on Isaacs shoulder with a deeply saddened smile; knowing what he's asking Isaac to do.

What about you Sir? Asks Isaac seeing as the Chief will be marked as a traitor if he's right.

Don't worry about me son... a couple of overweight monarchs, are the very least of my worries. Cameron responds with an unconvincing laugh. ...Just be sure you make it worthwhile. Now go. Before people start to speculate. He pats Isaac on the shoulders before shoeing him out the door.

Right... Isaac sighs in slight shock.

Well on I go to tell the lads we are betraying the country! Yay! Isaac babbles on as he walks out, over towards his squad hangar.

As he starts to look around he notices how empty the runway is...then he realizes as he walks into his squadrons hangar, with all his crew standing around their aeroplanes, obviously distraught.

Hello chaps. Isaac exclaims trying to cut the tension in the air, which in his mind was thicker than his mother's eggplant casserole, which required a steak knife to eat.

YOU BASTARD! Liam screams as he emerges from the cockpit of his jet.

LOOK WHAT YOU DID, YOU IDIOT! This might be the most crucial part of the war...and here we are. Grounded by an undisciplined, disrespectful, honorless, unrestrained prick! Didn't take you thirty minutes before you pushed someone over the edge! But to fight Jordan Shì-Lex, that is a new level of stupidity for you!

Are you finished? Isaac asks after completing ignoring Liam's point. "Cuz we need to get ready to ship out."

What? Liam stutters.

He actually called us out? Liam asks as he is now standing up on his seat leaning on the windscreen of his jet.

Well...not exactly. Isaac Replies while scratching the back of his head in discomfort.

He's asked us to head north into Hålldr to help rescue the kids in the Citadel... As he spoke, even though they made no noise, he could feel the collective disgruntled moan of dissatisfaction that filled the room.

...Yes, I know you all wanted to fight for Corinth, to be named one of the heroes who saved the city from the Perth, believe me when I tell you that I'm sorry about this...

But if we do this, I think we will be saving the future of our entire civilization; and perhaps even the Nords as well.

Ugh...look I'm not supposed to tell you this... Isaac continues as he shakes his head. ...But you need to know, and I'm not about lying to my team.

This mission was never cleared by the house; this came from the Comandant himself.

He believes that the House of Repose itself may be responsible for this attack. Because of this he cannot trust his own people to save the children. He was told to send Jordan out to Hålldr, but he trusts us to follow through on this...if he is right.

We will most likely be marked as traitors, which means even if we do make it back in one piece, even if we save the kids. There is no guarantee that they won't kill us here for treason...

Isaac then pauses before continuing, and looks around at the eyes of his colleagues.

...If you don't want to do this, if you don't want to be branded by an ungrateful, undisciplined, disrespectful, honorless, and unrestrained prick. I can't blame you. But you need to leave now, because when we leave the ground today, your fate is forfeit.

As he spoke to the seven pilots that stood in front of him, three proceeded to gather their gear and leave the hangar for the thought of losing their families reputation was too hard for them to excuse.

Anyone else? Isaac asks again as he looks on at the four remaining pilots.

You are the craziest son of a bitch I've ever known... says Liam as he dismounts from his plane and walks up to Isaac.

...but there's nowhere I'd rather be than at your wing. He continues as he shakes Isaacs paw in respect for his courage.

Which although his character hints at reckless, and irresponsible, he was undeniably heroic, when the time is needed...though he would rather you see him as a disgraceful half-breed, so he would not have to run the risk of disappointing anyone. But if you knew him as well as Liam did, you would be able to see the hidden "heart" he tries so hard to cover up.

I guess I was always going to be the one that gets you killed. Isaac laughs as he responds to Liam's oath.

So this is it? Five pilots. Against an entire army of reptiles... Isaac exclaims.

...Oh, they will be singing stories about us by the end of this.

Yeah, but only in the brothels! Liam laughs.

Hey, that's where the legends start! Isaac responds.

As they loaded their gear, armed their jets, and Isaac was finally able to pull his tail out of his trousers. They began to head out for Hålldr. Unfortunately however, they first had to cross the Pertha desert, which was completely blacked out by the smoke rising from the Citadel. Covering nearly half of the 14,000 kilometer arid desert between the two countries, making the journey itself perilous.

Consequently they were forced to take the western route flying along the cliffside, but that meant going right by the Citadel. Now ideally they would have taken the eastern route heading up the beachfront, and crossing the straight cutting across the desert. But because of the dense cloud of black smoke, they had to take the risk of flying below the cliffside, and passing through the Citadel without being spotted.

As they left Corinth Isaac, looking across the harbor, he saw the true state of the war...It was hideous. Buildings on fire; people being evacuated from their homes. They have already lost a whole district to these reptiles.

Although the idea of leaving his country in the midst of all this chaos was heartbreaking, he understood that in order to have a chance of winning this war and endure, they must cut off the head.

Still, the sight of the smoke rising from his home, might be the last time he sees it...
