And thus begins the last of the five chapters, the next series after this will be twelve chapters long and it is glorious, but this was my attempt at writing a story around a setting and it was an experience that woke me up to alot of writing tropes and questioned my writing ablity, so I hope you enjoy.

Chapter One: A Boy and his Crocodile

Imagine three thousand years from when you are reading this, that global warming went wild suddenly melting the ice and submerging the Earth, covering it cities and land. Earth evacuated fleeing into the stars but some people were left behind. They adapted to the situation building massive structures of steel and glass underwater.

People adapted, Marine races surviving and not rapidly evolving, because scientific accuracy. As they lived in these massive underwater structures, they looked up to the stars and wondered if the people they loved would ever come back for them.

They learned to survive, taking the resources they needed from the ocean and getting their power in a clean way. Even as they did, the atmosphere remained dirty and warm. They thought that the water would never recede; they could go back up to the surface and explore the waterworld they lived in to find tiny islands.

Even as they mapped out and found tiny islands in their water world, they remained in their Hydrospheres, where they could maintain and keep infrastructure, instead of rebuilding it on land. For hundreds of years this went on and the races in the spheres improved and got used to their living condition.

Each sphere held their own government, made their own laws, decided where security was needed and whether the land near them was their own. Wars broke out between spheres and slowly the population was killing themselves off. However, in some spheres, there were peace and people were allowed to live their lives. One must wonder how their lives played out....

....

The Captain loved the feeling of water flow through his hair, as he floated in a sphere of water, held up by a psychic wave generator, powered by electricity generated by tapping tidal functions and geothermal vents. However, that was not important they were playing Hydroball.

The Captain looked around the massive sphere of water, his team, dressed in black with neon green lights over their body, gained the ball. He was the defender and his job was to make sure that the team would not be able to enact any plans to take back the ball.

"Jacob, you've got two on your left!" He said into the tiny microphone around his mouth. The Captain looked at the player as he threw the ball upwards and over the two players that wanted to get the ball.

Another player caught the ball and he had to get it into the goal located on their team's side of the field. He saw a weakness and decided to cover it. He swam up and blocked two players trying to gang up on the catcher.

He threw the ball, sending it through the water and into another player. The final player grabbed it and threw it into the goal allowing them to gain the first point of the game. It was only five minutes into the game and they only needed five goals to win the game.

They were fighting an amateur team from a hydrosphere fifty kilometers away and it showed. Quite quickly, the points stacked up against the team, and they quickly managed four more points while the other team only got two.

The crowds cheered for them as they quickly took the game from the other team and won. As the game ended, they all swam out of the floating sphere of water and onto the ground again. The psychic wave generator turned off and the water followed out of the arena and downward into a pipe.

The sphere would send the water to be remixed with some salt and put back into the ocean. The teams disappeared from the cheering crowds and disappeared back into their respective locker rooms. Nothing important or interesting happened in there.

The Captain as he was called was born on some remote island, where he was abandoned the same day. He was taken to the hydrosphere and while he did not become the Captain of the Hydroball team, he did quickly become one of the best boaters the sphere had ever had, he was the captain of the boating group and the name stuck.

He was like most people in the sphere a marine animal, but unlike other people he was a hybrid of two species. He took his body shape and muscles from his shark side, and he got his chubbiness, color scheme and height from his orca side. He had no idea where he got his curly dirty blonde hair from, but he went with it. His body was black oily, rubber but his white spots were a bit greyer.

In the locker room he put on his normal clothes, cargo shorts and burgundy shirt. Then he put on a tan longcoat, as he intended to go sailing afterwards. However, when he left the locker room it seemed that the other team had some ideas.

"You cheated, there is no way you could have won against us. We are the greatest Hydroball team on this side of the hemisphere, so there is only one way to win against us and that is to cheat." Their leader, a tuna fish said as he tried to boast.

"Listen, shrimp you can think you're the best team out there or you can be the best team out there. From what I've seen today I don't think you know what you're talking about." Captain said as he quickly verbally defeated the other team. The tuna looked shocked about what happened.

"Fine then, let's see how good you hybrids are at dodging punches." The tuna said as he pounded his fist together. He and the team behind him walked towards The Captain and prepared to attack him.

"Listen; don't get so uppity about this. Now I don't want to fight you so here's a change to walk away and I'll leave this all behind you." The Shorka said as he pulled backwards trying not to show any signs of aggression. The tuna ran forward punching him as he attempted to block.

He continued to back up, trying to not cause more trouble as he started to run from the group. The hydroballers started to chase him trying so hardly to combat him as they ran out of the stadium exit and into the middle round hallway.

"Well then I gave them a chance lets, fight." The Captain said as he turned around and faced the hydroballers. He was caught up in the action and not thinking, while he didn't want to hurt them so to say, he did want to have fun.

He put his hand forward and a shockwave bursted out from the palm. The team of hydroballers looked in shocked as they were knocked against the floor from the shockwave. The team looked in shocked as they crawled away from crazy man attacking them with shockwaves.

"Crap I used my powers." The Captain said as he realized what he did in the heat of the moment. In the hydrosphere if a hydroteam chasing him was assault, then using his powers without administrator knowledge was full on murder.

The lights around him flashed red and alarms blared, a forcefield generator turned on above him and trapped him in place. Large steel plates were sent up against the glass walls. A security team was quickly dispatched in the hallway and captured him.

"Well, looks who going out." The security guard said as he put his gun down and looked at the hybrid trapped in forcefield.

...

Soon the Captain was given the traditional punishment, a slap on the wrist and being banned from the hydrosphere for two weeks. He exited the hydrosphere that night with some of his goods and his ship identification drive.

"Well then, two weeks and a ship vacation." The Captain said as he walked out of the hatch and onto the tiny dock that was built atop of the hydrosphere. He wondered as he left and looked at the life house on the dock.

He walked out to his watercraft, a mixed craft built from machines and craft that floated near the hydrosphere. The engine was a watersealed pickup truck, with a special water engine, which spun propellers instead of wheels. A large flat base was attached around the back of the truck for walking and holding two solar panels pointed into the air.

A machine gun base was planted in the middle and a tiny five-foot bird's nest was built upon it. The machine gun was on the bird's nest and could aimed in almost every direction.

The tailgate of the pickup was covered with a roof and a door put in place or the sleeping quarters and entrance into the diver seat. On the button of the base were two stabilizers and on the back of those stabilizers was a specialized water engine.

"Well, old girl looks like were going out." The Captain said as he walked on the base and activated the numerous solar panels. He entered the sleeping quarters and entered the truck's driving cabin.

The Captain sat down in the driving seat and held onto the wheel. He turned the ignition key. The boat started up as the propellers started and he drove forward into the sea. He reached next to him and grabbed a lever, he pulled it and the roof above him open.

The seats and driving equipment were raised out into the sun, for a proper view of the sea. He turned as he looked on his GPS, he reached the ignition key again and turned it.

The boat took off as the water engines took in water and using electricity from the panels spilt it into hydrogen and oxygen. With a spark it started a slow burn, as so that it didn't explode.

The boat set off towards a nearby island as The Captain began his punishment. He put a pair of sunglasses over his eyes and decided to enjoy his vacation.

...

The Captain walked down the beach, sun on his head, and sand in his toes. In his hand he had a black metal detector and was searching the beach for anything worthwhile. The wind from the ocean blew towards him cooling him off and giving the palm trees a funky movement.

The Shorka started to grow stubble, forgetting to bring any shaving equipment with him. Behind him his "ship" was "docked" with the beach and he still had a week and a half until he could return to the hydrosphere.

He yawned as he realized the day was only half over. He walked forward and decided to head back to his ship, before he did something he would regret or something. However, as he turned around and swiped his metal detector over new ground, it started to beep erratically.

"Well then might be something to do down here." The Captain said as he bending down and taking a tiny sand shovel. He trusted it into the ground and started to dig out what was below him. When started to get a nice sized hole made he started to realize that he might of found fool's gold.

He took the detector again and swung it over the hole, in response the device beeped like there was a mine below the island. He bent down again and took on big swing into the sand. His shovel it something with an audible metal ping.

"What's going on here?" He said as he began to dig around the large metal object. He looked around it appeared to be a massive metal piece underground. Their looked to be salvageable parts, so deciding it could hurt him he grabbed the metal object and found it was a circular shape, almost like an arm.

The sand shifted as he pulled out the metal object, then he saw fingers and a hand on the metal object. He then saw green and silver scales on a body below. The sand hole shifted and a massive cyborg crocodile was pulled out of the ground.

"What is this?" The Captain said as he laid the body out on the ground. It looked to be a cyborg, a robotic body built upon an organic body. Its entire left arm seemed to have metal built over it and enhanced it, and the entire right was completely replaced. It had a metal cuirass over his chest and mechanical legs. He had on simple cargo shorts, and a long metal tail.

His jaw was enhanced with metal and he had metal teeth, his right eye was mechanical and his entire top of his skull was covered in a metal plate. There a spilt down the dome and their appeared to be a way to open the casing.

"This is some old tech." the Captain said as he opened the skull casing and looked inside the dome excepting a brain. Except there was just metal inside the skull casing. Inside of the hole was a platform and there was a floating cube with light bouncing inside. "A positronic brain."

He grabbed the crocodile figuring he could get the cyborg to work again with a spark of electricity, however as he picked the beast up, he did not notice the purple gem falling out of the crocodile's hand and onto the sand.

...

As soon as The Captain got back to his ship he jumped on the barge and placed the crocodile next to his solar panels. On the croc's cuirass he found a place he plug wires into and taking a wire from the solar panel he plugged the crocodile in.

The crocodile's head glowed as the positronic brain activated again. The crocodile started to start up again, but when he did a few blasts of electricity fired out of the reptile's joints. The head dome closed and the wires detached but the crocodile seemed to be stuck in some sort of start-up routine.

"Activating Windows 3350 XP, no internet connection found, activating satellite connection. Modules found downloading." The crocodile said as he fired a communication up to barely floating satellite which must of connected with a nearby ship. Downloading information from Ship: NCS - 223X, Codenamed: Void."

"I am currently, deleting Clippie function, downloading STAR Database, gaining information, and updating, updating." The Crocodile said as his body released a blue energy wave, "One lifeform found nearby, imprinting on user."

The crocodile turned towards The Captain and scanned his body, finding information.

"Void Information found. Target has no name, Nickname found, Nickname: The Captain. Cyborg is now set to obey all commands from The Captain, turning off start-up sequence activating normal day to day processes." The crocodile said as he somehow found the Shorka's name, the crocodile turned off lowering his head temporally.

"Start-up sequence was successful, main mission package corrupted, abandoning." The Crocodile said, "Identifying unit: Unit QZ - R187, Unit QZ - R187 is running fine, activing user mode." The crocodile said once again lowering his head before finally starting up.

"Well then, that was one way to start up, so where are you from?" The Captain said as he examined the crocodile. On his hands he appeared to have hover devices installed on the joints and an engine installed on his wrist.

"Downloading personality." The crocodile said as he continued to almost stall the process of introduction.

"Dear god this is worse than that time the hydrosphere had the automatic updates." The Captain said as he knocked the crocodile on the head, the crocodile shook his head and looked at The Captain with a curiosity in his eyes.

They both stared at each other standing up and both walking onto other sides of bird's nest. They started to circle the bird's nest looking at each other wondering what was happening in the other's mind.

"Well then, you seem to been working now. What we're doing you buried under the sand?" The Captain said as he continued to revolve around the bird's nest, the two facing each other in a faceoff.

"Information not found, resulting information would have done with the main mission module which is currently corrupted; counter, why I am on an island? I was buried in highlands?" The bot said being as inquisitive as the captain.

"Well then you must be pretty old." The Captain said breaking the tension and walking across the bird's nest and grabbing the robot by the shoulder. "Due to global warming the oceans have kind of risen, run a simulation on where you would be if say all the ice on the planet melted."

"Running simulation; Simulation ran." The robot said complying with the order and quickly running the simulation. His mechanical eye blinked signaling that he ran the simulation.

"Wow, what is your computing power?" The Captain asked the robotic crocodile as they walked off the barge and onto the sand.

"I currently have a 28 Core Processor with 28.7 Ghz Speed, with positronic computing." The crocodile said as he walked into the sand looking around. Then quite suddenly around the point that the crocodile was discovered a blast of energy fired out. They ran towards the beach and found the gem glowing on the ground.

"Item located, familiarity sensed, memory banks indicate object is dangerous." QZ said as they walked around the gem, looking at the glow coming off it. The Captain stood their having none of it as he looked down at the object and tried to figure out what it was.

"Well let's wait this out, it's only a gem that explosion was probably just a bomb rolling onto the shore." The Captain said as he tried to figure out how a tiny little gem could be dangerous. He bend down and put his finger out it attempting to grab it.

"Do not touch the gem." QZ warned but he was too late. The gem glowed brighter as it seemly downloaded something from Captain pushing him away with a shockwave.

"Hey that's my move!" The shorka said as he stood up, rubbing his head as the gem activated. He looked and the gem started to almost manifest itself. Black goo poured out of the gem and onto the sand of the beach.

"Oh my, that's a little scary. QZ analysis!" The Captain said as he realized the gem might not be so friendly. He put his hand forward and prepared to summon his weapon in case he needed to fight.

"Gem is forming artificial body system; brain scan suggests action should be taken before any attacks can happen." QZ said as he backed up and pointed his fist forward. "Rocket Fist!" From the crocodile's wrist, his fisted hand flew out propelled by a jet of steam.

It hit the gooey beast but it bounced off as if the beast was made of rubber. QZ put his hand up and his hand returned their like magic. They both backed up as the beast continued to grow large, both however stood in water.

"Well then time to bring out the Aqua Bow." The Captain said as he pointed his hands out like he was holding a crossbow. His body glowed and a blue stylized crossbow formed in his hand. An arrow made out of ice was loaded into the bow.

"Two powers, your scan indicated your mutation lead to the formation of shockwaves out your palm." QZ said in a confused monotone voice.

"Welcome to future, we've adapted." The Captain said as he pulled the trigger on the cross bow, firing the ice bow at the goo beast. It passed into the goo beast causing it to roar in pain. The bow automatically drew itself back and another ice arrow was reloaded magically.

The Captain began his assault on the beast before him firing arrows towards the large beast as they tried to contain it before it grew large. The beast roared as it was attacked by the group on the beach. They continued firing going full throttle. As The Captain successfully penetrated the beast with ice arrows, QZ attempted to do so with his rocket punches firing them at the beast.

They continued to face the beast both working separately trying to get both ends of a candle to burn, but as they went on and got more tired they realized they were getting nowhere.

"I don't think this is getting us anywhere quickly, I think we need to rethink this idea. Don't your memory banks have anything on this gem or something that we can use to beat it?" The Captain said as he fired another ice arrow to no avail.

"No information on gem found, energy levels at 45%." QZ said as he continued to fire his rocket fists at the massive goo beast that seemed to be ignoring them now.

"Well there has to be something we can do, or attack. Everyone has a weak point that their enemies can abuse." The Captain said as he backed away from the goo monster and walked towards the robot.

The goo beast almost laughed at them as it continued to grow bigger, Captain and QZ not caring what was going to happen now. They watched and decided to slowly back away as the goo beast grew larger, until it hit the water.

Its membrane burned as it hit the water, its skin almost burning and releasing smoke into the air. QZ realized this and turned The Captain towards it, they both realized they could dispose of the gem with this weakness.

"Ah, thank you weakness for showing yourself at the right time." The Captain said as he walked towards the ocean, cupping some water and splashing it onto the goo beast to the same effect. "QZ stand back, let's see if we can get this in one go."

The Captain backed up until he was up to his waist in water. He put his hand forward and blasted a shockwave, picking up the water molecules with them. The goo beast saw a massive water wave coming at him and screamed as the water engulfed his body causing the membrane to burn away leaving only a purple gem.

QZ walked over to the gem and picked it up, forming a forcefield around it and preventing it from reforming.

The Captain walked out of the water and looked at QZ with the gem. However, before anything else could occur, a white light hit him like a freight train. He fell down on the course sand, along with QZ.

"Wake up, young one and find your destiny." The Captain heard a soothing voice, hearing it was like a caring massage all over his body. He felt free of tension and as if all the pains in his world left him. He stood up and he was in a white environment, everything white in all directions.

He looked next to him and the mechanical crocodile had somehow joined him, even though he had a positronic brain. He looked around him and a white glowing silhouette had joined them in the environment. QZ stood up and looked around scanning the environment they were in.

"Hello young children, I am glad that you two could finally join me here." The silhouette said to them as she floated towards them and looked at her two warriors. She put her hand on QZ's mechanical cheek and started to caress it, giving the mechanical crocodile shivers.

"Did we die, because we beat did the gem, right? So I think after the gem gets beat, would be a terrible time to die." The Captain said getting nervous inside and feeling like butterflies were in his stomach.

"No, my child I am the spirt of the Earth, and I am just here to send a message. You two were destined to be the saviors of the Earth, and to be her protectors." She said as she backed up.

"How can I be here? I only have a positronic brain; no soul is located within shell." QZ said as he looked at the spirit before him, that his positronic brain attempting to comprehend what was happening in the area around him. His brain sparked a bit, and his mechanical eye flashed a bit.

"Everybody has a soul honey, you just need to find yours. Perhaps put a crystal from the gem into your positronic brain; don't fear the beast inside is erased from the gem. Its data just needed to be cleaned by the sea." The spirit said as she grabbed the gem from QZ's hand and carefully spilt the gem into a tiny shard.

She opened up his head casing and with one motion stuck the gem into his positronic brain. She took the rest of the gem and placed it into his cuirass, the gem glowing as it was seemly intergraded into his armor.

"Now then, going to be very vague and barely tell you the information you need. However, there is something coming to Earth and it going to be here very soon and you have to stop it. QZ you are the power of the Earth, when the time seems the most deathly your true powers will reveal." The spirit said before knocking them out again.

"Holy Crap!" The Captain said as he woke up on the beach wondering exactly what was happening.
