#4 of Setup
Well it looks like I'm getting more popular every time I submit a story, that's fucking sweet. Anyway here ya go.
Shain looks to the one wolf that said this with a very disappointed expression on his face "what do you mean "bad news" Barit."
I interrupt "what's a Barit."
Shain quickly says "equivalent to a Colonel."
I nod my head.
Shain says in an aggravated ton "Barit."
The Barit fidgets with the hilt of his sword "I'll explain on the way back to the palace, please come with me my lord."
Shain narrows his eyes at him for giving himself an order but dismisses it, complies, and follows the Barit with Vien and the others close behind into the woods onto a trial that doesn't look like it's used too much."
After everyone gets onto the trail Shain starts getting agitated "well Barit what the fuck seems to be the problem?"
"When that human general came down here to personally get the medicine he might have had more men than we thought."
Shain expression turns from agitated to shocked "what are you talking about I got no reports from my royal guard saying that there were more than 10 men with the general."
"Well...the royal guard was never informed because our intelligence agency thought that the problem was an error due to the size of the force."
Shain looks confused "What?"
*Sigh* "the capital was completely surrounded by a force of unbelievable proportions because on the new advanced radar system that was recently installed showed a very thick red ring around the capital with many dots in the red ring completely surrounding us, but the cameras showed nothing on regular, thermal, or electro. And after the general left so did the red ring and the dots that appeared on the radar around the capital, upon further investigation we found thousands of footprints that matched the ones the general's men had."
Shain snarls after hearing this and shouts "how dare he trick me in such a way, we had an agreement and he broke it, he stated that he would not deceive me in any way and that he respected my requests, dam that fucking bastard, I'll fucking kill him when I get my fucking hands on him."
I put a hand on Shains shoulder to calm him down a little "Barit I think I know what you're talking about."
Both Shain and the Barit look at me curiously "go on" says the Barit.
I think for a moment "back home the public only knows 4 branches of the military, but there is a rumor that floats around about a 5th branch called the shadow corps, consisting of Earths most elite soldiers, and these soldiers are given the best equipment we have to offer."
Shain buts in "so you're saying that we were surrounded by your" he points to me "people's best and were given equipment that can avoid being detected by regular, thermal, and electro. I never knew such technology was possible."
I shack my head "I'm saying it's possible but the only way to be sure is to contact my government and explain what has happened."
The Barit makes a gesture towards me "if they exist what possible ways could we use to detect them?"
I laugh quietly while shaking my head "nothing...don't you understand it's just a rumor." I trail off from there.
Shain puts his hand up in protest "rule one of being a leader "never leave anything out" that's how you end up dead."
I grimace ‘he's right, I shouldn't be leaving anything out, that was stupid' "I have no idea how he could get permission from earth to pull something like that off."
Shain scratches his neck thinking "What if they were his men using equipment that his people made or stole."
I put my hand on my head thinking about that for a moment ‘that just might work...not' "yeah...right...do you have any idea how much that would cost..." *chuckle* "that's got to cost hundreds of billions if not over a trillion and how is he gonna steal equipment like that, it's probably guarded constantly."
Shain stops dead in his tracks with a dazed expression on his face. We all stop and look back at him curiously. "What's wrong?"
I kept feeling like he was hiding something or that there was something missing and I think I figured it out..."what if he does have an army that can do this and what if he plans to use it to overthrow your government."
A confused looking frown forms on my face "no that's impossible, there's no way he could have enough men to do that because every general has just as much men as the other except for the elite general which controls all generals."
He laughs at me "you fool, do you really think it's that simple, let me explain something to you, in every government there's an army to protect the people which are controlled by lesser ranking officers until you get all the way up the general himself, now they have pledged to serve their country and their general faithfully, but that's just a pledge it holds no permanent value, for all you know half the army could have secretly pledged themselves to another general and the other general would technically have more men than any other general so if he kept on using propaganda he would have all or most of the men on his side and could take control of the government by force."
He starts walking again and I just stand there thinking, then I find a flaw "you forget one thing, we don't have the same government as you do and the elite general would never be betrayed, all humans respect him with the greatest amount of admiration I've ever seen, so you see not only does he have the power but the respect as well to stop any attempt of rebellion."
He looks at me with an unsympathetic appearance "we will see about that, anyway if your government doesn't do anything I will try to convince my people that going to war with him is the best course of action."
I look at him with alarm "WHAT...are you fucking out of your mind, attacking an earth army with your technology is suicide and besides that, the people that follow him are not monsters just mislead."
He shacks his head "I know people like him and there is nothing you can do to change the men that follow him once their brainwashed, and besides there's more than one way to defeat an army, have you ever thought of what we could do, I mean we have options from ambushes to poison gases to propaganda to destroy and decrease the morale of your soldiers..." He narrows his eyes "did you ever consider what we were capable of or what technological advances we have made over the past 50 years from your technology or at all for that matter."
I shack my head "no, but as far as we know your people don't like using guns because they are...from what your former leaders have called "the pussy weapons" they said that good old metal against metal is the real wolfs way to go. So you're telling me that you're going to defeat a elite human army in our territory with swordsman, ha I don't care what ambush his men fall into your still going to have heavy casualties."
Shain smirks and shacks his head "that depends on what tactics I use and besides who said any of my men were getting involved."
A perplexed look forms on my face "well...from what I now, to have a war one army goes against another army, eventually one wins and..."
Shain interrupts "MOST of the time that is true but not in this case, now I know I can't beat your armies on a regular battle field, but if we set off explosives, set up traps, raids, and ambushes at the right time and place then we can't lose, which is what your people call guerilla warfare. You know what something weird happened when the earth general came to visit, everyone reported a strange scent permeating the capital, and we can also fight your shadow corps with the sense of smell."
I ponder this for a moment ‘that might work if they don't sense the bombs in the first place but' "this would work for his men but by killing all the generals men you will be looked at as a major threat to Earth and they will most likely respond with an invading force in the millions to destroy us."
"Why one general can't have more than 100,000 men under his command."
I laugh at him "earth has 10,000 generals and I million soldiers per general which adds up to a total of 10 billion soldiers so unless your people can beat about 9 billion soldiers then killing all of the general's men is suicide."
He looks at me with concern "I see, so what happens if we just kill him and all the big shots, do you think we could convince your government of our reasoning's for this and laws for that matter. Lying to the emperor himself is a serious offence and is punishable only by death."
I shack my head in agreement "I see...then that should work if we can convince them that were not evil to begin with because Earth put a law in place long ago just in case we ever met with an outside race, that humans are bound by those people's laws and consequences."
Shain smiles "it's good your people think ahead like that."
I smile and shrug back "I guess it is."
The Barit interrupts "my lord we have arrived."
Shain turns to me and quietly says "look Vien...it's been 50 years so I don't know how they will react to someone that looks identical to my former mate...just keep close..." He looks at the others "MEN...cover Viens flanks" he beckons us to follow.
We emerge from a forest path with wolf soldiers covering my flanks and waiting for new orders. Shain points to the huge building in the center of this massive city which I can only guess is the palace and says that's where we will be staying. I walk onto the nice stone paved roads much like that of the Roman Empire, as I'm walking people passing by look at me with amazement and bow to me ‘wow I think I can get used to this.' As we make our way through the streets I notice that the buildings gradually get bigger and bigger as I go. Interesting, even though we were isolated from each other we still manage to make very similar architecture. The buildings seem to resemble a mix between roman and greek culture, but there is one considerable difference between these people and both us, there cloths, the wolves wear almost no clothes at all save for the small toga that doesn't go above the thighs on the men and a toga and what I can only describe as a bra for the women. I notice that some people are chanting something odd over and over when I pass by and when I ask Shain he only says it's a prayer. A prayer...for what...me, what the fuck did I do to deserve a prayer by so many, I mean if people are going to pray to me all day then I will put a stop to that immediately, why waste your time praying for something that isn't going to happen and if it does happen then it wasn't because of a prayer, I don't mind a few prayers but so many is a complete waste of time, when they could be spending it doing something more productive or fun for that matter. What strikes me as the most interesting thing is that no one seems to even notice Shains presence, but this is probably because of me. We finally get to the city square or in this case a huge circular white stone clearing and to the left is the colossal Imperial Palace with the oversized balcony for speeches probably. We walk toward the palace and I notice statues of many instead of one, which is odd, because usually in rome or greece the leader would remove the former leaders statues and put his in place of them, but here there are statues of many but in the center of the enormous entrance is a grand statue of Shain holding his elegant looking sword up high in the air with a expression that I can only describe as a battle cry, guards are formed all around the entry way and statues in a parallel formation about 20 feet apart from each other, most likely greeting us in a formal manner. As we walk in guards are placed in 2 long lines facing each other about 7 feet away from one another then make a sharp turn to the right. As we make our way toward wherever were going, I realize we must be going to the oversized balcony I saw earlier. We make a turn and go to the end of the line of soldiers and go up the stairs to the balcony, but before we get to the top he takes 2 small things from a guard and excuses him then turns to me as the guard walks away.
Shain holds out the 2 objects the guard gave him to me "here put these in your ears and mouth so both you and everyone will be able to understand everything."
I take them and put them in like he shows me then he pushes them into his ears "can you understand me."
I look at him oddly but notice his mouth doesn't match what he is saying "yeah" ‘translator.'
He puts both his hands on my shoulders and looks deeply into my eyes "you know what is expected of you but if I ask you anything you will approach and give your answer to the crowd so chose your words wisely, is that understood."
I return his stair with equal depth and meaning "yes...my love."
Shain loosens his grip, a little surprised then strokes my chin "I will never find another like you...love."
I smile "I know."
He smiles back and takes his hands off my shoulders and chin "you will stand right beside me on the right."
I nod my head.
Shain turns around, walks up the stairs, out onto the balcony, and I follow him. As we are on the balcony there are only 6 guards, 2 on either side of the entrance, and 4 on the corners of the balcony. Once the masses notice we are on the balcony they all howl and yell in applause.
Shain raises both his hands and smiles in approval. Then all the gathered citizens quiet down until nothing can be heard. "People of the Kir Toroz...as many of you already know the new mate I was promised has come to me at last and his name is Adrean Vien, but...my mate was never told anything about me; in fact they told him he was on an intelligence mission to find out if our race even existed in this part of the world..."
The crowd is shocked and appalled.
"And do you know who did this to him, who sent him here not knowing if he was going to live or die, or even caring..."
The people shout "who."
"Why it was his general...the general he served for years...the general he killed for...the general he swore an oath to protect..."
The people start booing and shouting profanities as if the general were right next to Shain.
"The very same general that made a deal with me and promised that the one I chose would come willingly..."
Now the people start to raise their voices in disapproval of the general's actions.
With the most vicious guttural voice I have ever heard "The very same general who tricked and LIED to me..."
Everyone goes dead silent.
His voice lightens up a little "yes and you know what happened...I told him and made this very clear that he was not to come down with any more than 10 men, but our intelligence told us differently, our new radar system shows that he surrounded the entire capital with what Vien calls the Shadow Corps, we had to hope that these soldiers wouldn't attack" He looks to me "Vien tell us what these soldiers are exactly."
I look at him and then at the crowd of people nervously ‘dam, well here goes nothing' I walk up to the stand where Shain was standing and look directly at the masses. "It's just a rumor, but supposedly these are earths most highly trained soldiers and are not to be underestimated, they have been equipped with technology that makes them invisible to the naked eye, thermal, and electro vision. However your race uses something that humans don't and that's smell, if anyone smelled something strange in the air when the general came here, that was them, they deceived us, all of us, but I'm not the kind to "give up." I, with the help of all of you can make sure he never hurts or deceives anyone ever again, once he and everyone else that's involved in this is dead I am confident that we can start a long...lasting...friendship with earth." I step back right next to Shain.
The spectators cheers in approval and admiration of my plan for friendship.
Shain steps forward with teary eyes and puts his right hand on my shoulder and with a broad smile says "Our pool of friends has been stagnant long enough and this is the perfect opportunity to expand our friendship, we have just recently come out of a long and great depression and are now flourishing with culture, agriculture, wealth, and no slavery because of me, but It's your turn to turn the pages of time and become great again, my people, you have suffered for a long time and now it's time we take measures into our own hands so we can avoid further trouble. Nothing and no one... can stop us if we keep going, for the momentum of our charge will wipe anyone with the audacity to stand in our way...so are you with me or do you wish to be cast away with the ages."
The people shout "Shain" over and over again in triumphant approval of his request.
After taking that in we both wave to the exited crowd still cheering for us. After 5 seconds of that he turns and gestures for me to follow him down the stairs, I follow him back down off of the balcony and he stops half way down and turns to face me.
He smiles with tears about to burst from his eyes. "I never knew you were good with words."
I smile back.
He looks at me as though he's looking straight through me "physically you 2 are nearly identical save for your tan, but mentally you're almost completely different. You think things through, keep asking questions, and when you do, in a split second I see Varus then just as quickly as his image came it leaves." Then a sad appearance shows on his face.
I don't know what to think ‘should I be angry or sad, well angry is only going to make things worse' I walk up to him and embrace him with an iron grip "I may not be him, but I'm someone completely different that you can make new memories with so instead of dwelling on the old memories you can move on and be happy, I...I don't want to lose you, even though it might sound like this is to soon I want to get to know you better and not just sexually but in every way possible."
He wraps his arms around me tightly and lets the tears flow from his eyes. "I...I'm so...happy" *chuckles* "let's go to my room where we can...start getting to know one another better."
I loosen my grip *sigh* "look I don't want this to be all about sex, I mean it's a good way to show someone how much you care about them but please can't we talk first and have some fun, you know test ourselves."
He lets go of me "Heh you know that's what Varus tried to use to stop me because he WAS straight, but this is different, I don't feel like you're trying to avoid sex, I feel like you're trying to connect with me on the deepest level, and besides Varus's attempt failed miserably" *chuckles*.
*Chuckle* "ya, after that we can fuck."
*Chuckles* "ah...good, cause I was going to anyway."
I grin "I figured that, now can we go walk around before we go to "bed"."
*Chuckles* "sure" he turns and walks down the stairs.
I follow right behind him and take out my translator pieces while thinking ‘no one has turned me on more than he has, I don't know what to think, believe, or do, I feel like I'm going to explode with emotions that I've never felt before, at least not so intense, if this is a game then we won after that speech.'
We walk out of the stairwell and into the main hallway and I'm surprised, there is a crowd bowing and the soldiers are kneeling as we make our way through this maze that the soldiers have brilliantly orchestrated for us to go where ever we please. We take the path to another exit that I haven't seen before and walk out into the street. Everyone is dispersing and I am surprised.
Shain notices this "what's wrong you look surprised?"
I look at him with amazement "that's one thing that's very different about our 2 peoples; you see our race would be swarming around us touching, grabbing, slapping, and so on; and don't get me started on the media.
He looks at me like what I said was a crime "why would they do something so violent, why don't they simply enjoy seeing them and what is the media?"
‘He's not from earth so I guess they don't have anything like that here being medieval and stuff' "the media is a group that reports about anything they can get their hands on. There useful but then there not useful. They help spread good information, but they don't understand the meaning privacy, sometimes they go too far and just need to leave people alone. Regular people however can be just as ruthless if not worst with popular people's privacy, some just get so excited that they don't think straight and do stupid things."
We make our way through the streets and people are bowing as we go by "I see, well your people are...interesting" *chuckle*.
*Chuckle* "yeah they are, but it's always funny to watch them on TV making fools of themselves."
Shain smiles "I bet, so what do you thinks gonna happen once this is all over."
I roll my eyes ‘here we go' "look I don't think about that because whenever I do I always lose or don't do as good as I could have. I get so worked up I can't concentrate on the tasks that I need to perform and the only difference here is that what we're doing is on a much bigger scale."
He nods "kay, so what do you want to do we can do anything you want?"
I give that some thought ‘he's right what do I want to do, oh I know' "I want to challenge you to a sword fight."
Shain laughs at me "wh...what, are you insane" he bursts out laughing again.
I cock my head to the left confused "why what's wrong with that."
He looks at me like I'm stupid "umm for starters you're trained to use a gun and secondly I don't want to hurt you."
I explode with laughter "oh please I'm a soldier for a reason you know, I can take whatever you though at me."
He looks at me oddly "have you ever even held a sword let alone use one."
I raise my brow "yes, not as much as you have, but I do more than "hold it up," you really don't know how good I am with a sword do you?"
He growls in a annoyed manner "look if you really want to fight then let's fight, but don't say I didn't warn you."
I roll my eyes "whatever."
He gives me a stern look "I know Varus was good with a sword, but you...I just don't know."
I raise a brow "then why don't you find out for yourself with some good metal on metal action."
He glares at me "fine, but if you get in over your head don't say I didn't warn ya."
I shack my head "you already said that."
He's fuming after I say this "oh...COME ON THEN, let's go to my personal training grounds."
*Chuckle* "no, I want to do this for all to see, I WANT TO SHOW EVERYONE THAT I'M NOT GOING TO BACK DOWN, that I'm not weak...that I'm not afraid."
He looks at me sternly and says calmly "fine, if it means that much to you we will fight in center square how's that."
I narrow my eyes and grin "wonderful."
He turns around and shouts something to the nearest guard, then turns to me "let's go."
I follow him to center square.
He shouts something to the people for about 1 minute then the people look at me with a mix of shock and interest.
One of the guards pushes a cart of nice looking swords. I study the cart of swords with great interest "impressive, your sword collection you have here is astounding."
He howls with laughter "that is only a small fraction of my sword collection..."
I interrupt him and quickly walk over to the cart. "Th...this sword i...it has the Earth seal on it, this...this is Varus's sword isn't it."
With no emotion "yes...yes it is, and I was hoping you would fight with it."
I look at the sword again with tears ready to overwhelm me and say with a whisper "I would be honored."
"Then take it, I have already chosen my weapon of choice." Shain pulls out his nicely crafted sword with the hilt of a pavel moc but the blade of an angus trim with a curves in the middle."
I take the Varus's sword from the cart and casually walk over and stop 10 feet from Shain.
He looks at me with determination. "You ready."
I narrow my eyes and grip Varus's sword tighter. "Fuck yeah."
Everyone is watching with anticipation. We both charge each other at the same time with lightning speed. Our swords both simultaneously collide and the force and momentum of the hit causes our swords to spark, but only once. We both pull back and charge each other again, but this time I let him make the first move. He thrusts his sword at me and I barely dodge the attack to the left, I counter by touching my sword to his making it perpendicular to his, which makes a plus sign then I pull my sword up at an angle forcing his sword up with mine then I move in for victory. Just when I think I got him he forces his body to the left so my sword just misses hitting him. He performs a spin and tries to catch me off guard, but that move is to slow and takes too long to perform because by the time he has turned around I have my sword ready to block him. He predicts this and instead of swinging from the middle he pulls it upward and plunges his sword downwards but misses because I avoid it by jumping to the right and before he can attack again I thrust my sword and he moves to the left avoiding it, but I turn my blade to the left, attack, and slice his body armor, but just barely miss his flesh. He jumps back to regain his composure and balance while everyone is gasping as their emperor has almost been beaten. Shain looks at me with no emotion "I didn't think you would be that good, it appears I have underestimated you Vien, but it's time to end this little game."
Well I thought that would be a odd place to end it but I this chapter has been going on long enough.
