Don Amore is a mafia-love story between a dingo and wolf. Enjoy!

Brodie sighed, waiting for the light to change so he could finally get to work. He was already running late and knew the pool couldn't open without him there. No lifeguard, no swimming.

"Come on, you stupid son of a-" Brodie was cut off by a loud crashing sound.

Staring, he saw two cars collide, one quickly driving off and leaving the other behind.

"Holy shit!" Brodie yelped.

He struggled to get out of his car while simultaneously grabbing his cellphone to call for an ambulance. As soon as he was out of the car, the dingo ran to the smashed car in front of him.

"Are you okay?" Brodie asked, looking in through the smashed driver's side window.

There was a wolf in the seat, unconscious or dead, Brodie wasn't sure. He managed to get the information of the accident to the dispatcher and waited outside of the car with the wolf for the ambulance to arrive. The second the ambulance arrived, Brodie stepped aside and allowed the paramedics to take over.

"I-Is he going to be okay?" Brodie asked.

"We won't know until he gets to the hospital and is looked at by a doctor," the one paramedic answered.

"Okay," Brodie said slowly.

He got back in his car, still shaken over what he had seen, but drove himself to the South Side Pool. There was a large group of people waiting for the pool to be opened and he received many jeers over being late.

"I'm sorry! I witnessed an accident and had to stop to help!" Brodie said.

The crowd fell silent at his words and Brodie unlocked the pool gates. Instantly Brodie was shoved through the gates as the crowd rushed to get into the pool. Brodie rolled his eye as he peeled off his t-shirt, leaving him in just his lifeguard swimming trunks. The day passed slowly, the wolf unable to leave Brodie's mind.

"Change of shift!" someone called.

Brodie looked down from the lifeguard tower to see a human, Matt, heading over.

"Great. I need to get to the hospital," Brodie said, hopping down.

"You sick?" asked Matt.

"No. There was a car accident earlier and I want to make sure the guy is okay," Brodie answered, pulling on his shirt.

"Ah. Well, hopefully he's fine," Matt said, taking over the tower.

Brodie nodded and left the pool, heading towards the local hospital. Once inside the hospital, he found the receptionist in the emergency department and explained he was looking for the wolf who had been in a car accident earlier that day and that he had been the one to call for the ambulance.

"He's in surgery right now for some internal bleeding, but he should be out shortly," the receptionist said.

Brodie sighed and found an empty chair to wait for updates in. A long time passed before the receptionist called him to the desk to let him know the wolf was done.

"Can I see him?" Brodie asked, "I just want to make sure he's okay."

"Well, considering he has no family here, they're all in the United States, and you witnessed the accident, I guess we can let you go see him," the receptionist answered, "He's in room six two six."

Brodie hurried down the hall to the room, only to find the wolf was still asleep from the anesthetic. He pulled a chair over to the side of the bed and sat down, waiting for the wolf to wake.

At long last, as Brodie was starting to drift off to sleep, the wolf stirred and groaned. Brodie sat up in the chair and began to pay attention as the wolf opened his eyes.

"Hey, you're up!" Brodie said happily.

"What the-? Who are you?" the wolf asked, "What's going on? Why's my leg in a cast?"

"Whoa, whoa, easy. I'm Brodie. You were in a car accident earlier. I called the ambo for you and they took you here. I guess you broke your leg in the process. I know you had some internal bleeding but hadn't heard about your leg," Brodie said.

"Ambo? Is that an ambulance?" the wolf asked.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. They said you're an American," Brodie answered, "Yes, an ambo is an ambulance. Anyways, how are you feeling?"

"Sore," the wolf admitted, "I mean, I was in a car accident and all."

"What's your name?" asked Brodie.

His ears twitched slightly at the sound of someone walking through the hall but his eyes stayed focused on the wolf.

"Finn," the wolf said, trying to sit up.

He hissed in pain and immediately stopped his movement, realizing how stupid he had been to attempt to move.

"Do you want me to get a nurse? So you can get some more pain medications?" asked Brodie.

"Nah. I'm fine. I've had worse. I once broke my arm and two ribs while dancing. I didn't realize I was so close to some stairs and I went right down them, backwards. Also got a pretty good concussion that day," Finn laughed, "I learned to check my surroundings before dancing after that."

"Must have been an intense dance," Brodie said, a smile tugging at his lips.

"Line dancing isn't usually that intense," Finn said.

"Line dancing?"

"Yeah. To Cotton Eye Joe."

"Cotton Eye Joe?"

"Have you been living under a rock? All country bars play it and every wedding I've been to plays it. I grew up with that song!"

"I've never heard of it," Brodie shrugged.

"Where's my phone? You have to see the dance and hear the song!" Finn declared.

"I don't know. In your car maybe?" Brodie said.

"Fuck. The car. Was it totaled? Will it be able to be saved?"

"I have no clue. I was focused on you, not your car."

Finn groaned and dropped his head back against the pillows, "It was a rental..."

"Did you get the insurance for it?" Brodie asked slowly.

"No," Finn muttered.

"W-Well, if you need help paying for damages, I might be able to lend a hand."

"No, it would be too expensive."

"My parents have money... I could ask to borrow some..."

"We just met. I can't ask you to do that for me."

"What if I just helped you out until your leg heals?"

"Again, I can't ask you to do that."

Brodie bit his lip, "I just want to help. That's the kind of guy I am."

"I guess you _could_help me out a little..." Finn said.

Brodie's tail began to wag, "What can I do first?"

"Uh... Can you... Get me a cup of water? I am kinda thirsty..." Finn said.

Brodie ran away without another word, looking for a nurse to get some water for Finn. He found one at last and asked for a cup of water for the patient. She handed Brodie some water and he hurried back to the room.

"Here you go!" he said happily.

Finn thanked him and took a long sip of water, "Thanks."

Brodie smiled, "Think we'll be friends?"

"I don't see why not," Finn answered, smiling as well.
