Pre-note: Hey guys, this is the first chapter in my first story series, so whatever feed back you can give is much appreciated. It's a pretty short chapter, i just wanted to test the waters to see what kind of reception it would have. This is mainly setting up a few plot lines so there won't be anything too raunchy in the first 2 chapters, but i assure you it is worth the wait, there will definitely be more intimate scenes soon ;) Enjoy!

Chapter 1

Darryl cleaned his hunting knife until he could see the detail of his scarring in its reflection. He loved that knife, always used it to finish his prey off because he felt more satisfaction in feeling it glide effortlessly through their flesh, holding it steady and tight as the shuddering of their dieing body slowly stopped. "You done staring at yourself princess?" Said his brother Jarred, as he shouldered his rifle. "We're ready to go, if we're gonna do this, we do it now". Darryl sheathed his knife and stood up. "Gentlemen, lets go kill a dragon".

"Jesus Christ, they've got another one", said detective Carter as he looked at the mutilated dragon. "Tensions are high enough between the UN and Dragon Senate without these fucking hicks starting a godamn inter-species war". He looked at the shriveled body, towering over it. Even though Dragons were known to be big creatures, detective Carter stood at a modest 6"3, and still looked quite intimidating over the curled up form of the dragon. Running his fingers through his chin-length light-brown hair, he kneeled down next to the body observing the trademark knife wound, directly into the cavity where dragons had their heart. He stared into the dead eyes of the Dragon, and it stared right back into his pale blue eyes. It looked like a skeleton. Dragons have a specialised chemical in their body that evolved over the years, or could have been genetically engineered, we don't know. After the heart stops, a hormone to keep this chemical dormant stops being produced, and the chemical eats away at the organ tissues inside the dragon, leaving autopsies useless. This was thought to be a strategic move so their enemies could not learn anything about their physiology after death. He looked at his phone, ten missed calls from the Captain. It began to ring, he answered.

"Detective Carter"

"Where the FUCK have you been? I've been trying to contact you for the past 20 minutes, we have another dead dragon on our hands, the commissioner is on my ass, the feds are having a fucking field day with this shit, the secretary of defense is wondering if this department actually has any competent detectives and you're too busy jerking off to answer your fucking phone?!"

"They're getting bolder"

"What?!"

"They're getting bolder, and hungrier. This attack was only 1 mile out from the nearest town. All previous attacks have been in secluded areas, and have only been discovered days after the attack. This one looks like its only been dead for 6 hours. The attacks are becoming more frequent, and seem to be focused around George's Forrest. They have to have a hide out somewhere in these woods. From the different foot prints, it looks like there's about 13 of them, and the different shell casings we found tell us they're packing some pretty heavy-duty weapons in their arsenal. That's too much equipment to carry around town unnoticed, so they must be based out in the woods"

"This needs to be taken care of before The Senate finds out about it. Any information on the Dragon?"

"Seems like it was solitary, like the others. An old man going for a walk found it, we've got him in for questioning. We're not letting him contact anyone until we've got this under wraps. He doesn't have any family, lives by himself. We got lucky this time"

"Find these bastards before it happens again, or its your ass I'm stringing up for The Senate", spat the captain before hanging up on him. Carter sighed, and took a sip of his coffee. It tasted like shit.

Not far from the crime scene, nestled into a valley was the town of Crest Wood. Unbeknownst to one of its residents, Chris Robertson, a 21 year old sophomore university student, this day would inherently change his life forever. He got out of bed, and observed himself in the mirror. He had short black hair, the fine stubble on his face concealing his very slightly rounded jaw-line. Chris opened his plump lips, sticking his tongue out, and raising his perfectly arched eyebrows. He wriggled his pointy nose in the mirror and laughed at himself. Taking a step back, he admired his 5"3 athletic physique. Although with the start of his new semester, he became more relaxed with his workouts and became a little bit pudgier around his legs and butt. He didn't mind though, he had a healthy bulk on him.

He showered and got ready for his Sunday hike. He tried at least once a week to take time for himself, walk in the forest and soak in the nature, the peace, the life of those woods. He loved to explore, it was his child-like curiosity that drove him to want to become a biologist. Chris climbed his way up a steep hill, sprinkled with boulders that fell from the Mountain. Managing to pull himself over the edge, he found himself in a clearing. Placing his back pack down, he layed on his back and looked to the sky. This rustling near his head distracted him, looking towards this disturbance he smiled. It was a small lizard that somehow managed to get himself stuck under a rock. It was flailing around, he could see the poor guy panting, obviously distressed.

"Hey there buddy, how the hell did you do that?" He said as he lifted the rock up, taking the lizard into his hands. Weirdly, he thought, it was calm in his hands. He stroked the back of its head, looking at every detail on the lizard, smiling. Slowly he placed it on the ground and it skittered off. Laying back down, listening to his surroundings he heard something strange. Rather, its what he didn't hear that was strange. The sounds of the forest seemed to fall silent. Chris had this feeling he couldn't shake that he was being watched. In an attempt to make himself feel better, as if he was in control, without looking up he shouted "Come out where I can see you. I know you're there". Silence. He knew no one would answer, and it was probably nothing, but did so anyways. Then he heard footsteps. Jumping up, he turned around to look at the source of the noise and staring at him was a fully grown black dragon.

"I guess im getting sloppy, if you knew I was there" said this mysterious dragon, who towered over Chris standing at an intimidating 7"5. His black scales ran across its whole form, except for his belly and inner thighs, which were a white/grey colour. He had two horns protruding from behind his pointed ear, slightly spiraling upwards. He had nothing on but a pair of shorts, the material of which looked foreign to Chris. He had piercing green eyes, a long snout and Chris just couldn't take his eyes off this creatures muscled and ripped form. Snapping out of it, Chris couldn't believe that actually worked. But he couldn't act too surprised lest his little charade be discovered.

Suppressing all his instincts and urges to run, scream, or jump with joy because he was talking to a REAL dragon, he calmly said in the most nonchalant voice he could muster "I thought you would show yourself earlier, I knew you were watching me for a while" he rolled the dice, looking to see his reaction.

The dragon gave a little smirk and tilted his face to the side, "I am getting sloppy". Chris let out a mental sigh of relief; he bought it. "You're incredibly calm for a human who just found out he was being stalked by a dragon".

"Oh, so that's what you were doing? Stalking me?" Chris said, having no idea how to deal with this situation, and why the hell did he sound like he was flirting with the dragon?

"I had my eye on you for a few days now, you've been walking in and out of my territory", the dragon took a step closer.

"I didn't realise Dragons had any right to lands, aren't you guys just passing by?" he said teasingly, as he sat back down on the grass and looked up at the sky, trying to seem un-phased by this encounter.

The dragon smiled, starting to enjoy this little back and forth "Well it's been a decade since we were marooned on this planet, and it doesn't look like we have the means to leave any time soon. Besides, when has ownership of a land ever stopped humans from colonizing it regardless?"

"Fair point. Was that a subtle declaration of war? I feel like I should be worried", he said with a smile, also starting to like this back and forth and surprising himself at how well he was doing it.

The dragon was even closer to Chris as he spoke, spooking him a bit at how stealthy he was "It wouldn't be much of a war, at least for us" he said with a sinister smile, looking down at Chris.

He looked up at the dragon, his towering frame blotting out the sun. "You're stealing my rays," he said, pretending the last thing the dragon said didn't frighten him a little.

With a confused look on his face, he looked a bit offended "I have taken nothing from you". That did it. Chris couldn't keep the cool act up. He burst out into laughter. The dragon looking on in confusion crossed his arms, with a flustered expression on his face. As Chris saw him doing this, he quietened down and just smiled at him. They're really not that different from us. The flustered look on his face looked so comical, so human. He started laughing again. For some unknown reason, the dragon cracked a smile and started laughing too. He had no idea why, but he was laughing! What was so funny? He didn't understand but he enjoyed it regardless.

After they stopped laughing they just smiled at each other. "I'm Chris". The Dragon smiled, "And I couldn't tell you my real name if I wanted to, you don't have the vocal chords to pronounce it".

Chris looked at him for a while. "Drake. Your name's Drake. It's the name of my cousins bearded dragon, and it's terribly clichéd but it works".

"Did you just name me like a pet?" said the dragon, taking false offense to his statement. "I did. Nice to meet you Drake" Chris smiled unapologetically. I like this human, thought Drake.

His long, dirty hair stuck to his face as he waited quietly in the dirt, observing with his high-powered binoculars from the distance. The scar on the side of his face wrinkled into a smile, as Darryl looked at his new prey, talking and laughing with a human in a clearing. Disgusting, he thought. Traitor to his own species. He would meet the same fate as his Dragon friend.
