This serves as a sort of prologue to a story/comic I've been thinking of making since my conception into the furry fandom.

Please comment and rate as this is, yet, another attempt of mine into the foray of furry literature.

Tales of Rio: Trevor

He ran. He had been running all his life, but he didn't run as fast as he did than now.

He looked back; they were still there. Shit! He screamed in his mind. They looked like any two, ordinary men, but he knew that they were after him. In the midst of the city's bustling crowd, he knew that they were after him, as they stared at him with unfettered glares. But, that wasn't what scared him: they were taking their time. They were just walking to him, like they were taking a Sunday stroll. He was smarter than them, Come after me, shitbrains! And so, he bolted for about two blocks, until he looked forward - there were two more of them. They were definitely his men. Goddamit, he thought, as he skidded to a halt, and bolted for the alley to his right, I knew...I FUCKING knew it...I just HAD to fuck with him! He glanced before he turned, and noticed that all four of them were right behind him.

The alleyway turned to the left, and he had to follow it. Big mistake. Just as he turned, he felt a heavy blow right, square on his snout, and he tumbled backwards, and added another repercussion on the back of his head; knocked out, temporarily. Lead right into a trap...like prey to the slaughter...

When he came to, he noticed the same stink of the alleyway he was in, and then the sharp pang of pain on his nose; definitely broken. He tried to look up, but even when he did his jaw was grabbed, and then felt that cruel slap of a backhand that forced him to snap out of his delirium, and whimpered and groaned. And then, he saw him.

Squatting right in front of him, the first thing he notices were two deep, grey eyes that looked at him with such focus that they almost didn't blink. Then, came the outer details: pink nose, white and grey fur, with big ears that drooped down as he wore a beanie, and a near-expressionless face that he couldn't help but stare back. But, most of all, was the extremely distinct antlers that jutted right out of his beanie, Must be a pain to put on that thing... The jackalope patted his cheek, "You alright?"

For a moment, he hesitated to answer, but he let off his best smile - on account of his barely feeling his own face. "H-How ya, doin', boss-man?"

"I'm doing fine...business as usual, y'know?" The lapine chuckled. He chuckled right back, and he looked to see that the four men that were after him, was added by one, tough looking female right beside him - to make sure that he was handcuffed right on the rainspout, securely.

"And how about you, Trevor," he added, with a slightly haughty chuckle, "my fine, foxy-fluff friend - how are you fairing in this fine city?"

"Oh, y'know," Trevor shrugged, and was looking around to find means of escaping, "Tough, as always, but I'm getting around. Y'know your boys here--HHAAGGH!!"

He had to shout. He felt his snout grabbed and crushed with such intensity that he felt the bones of his nose digging deep into the flesh. What's worse was that he felt the grip begin to twist around a bit, and made that broken bone slide and emit more excruciating pain that made him sob tears of intense pain, and blubber and whimper like a puppy. What's even worse: it came right from the hand of the jackalope that stared at him with such indifference that it gave him chills just to look at him.

"Now, Trevor," he started, "I think you already know full well that I'm here on business. And that, while I'm sure you'll be more than happy to elucidate your blessed day to me, I think you already know why I'm here."

Trevor stared up at him with teary-eyed pity and panic, and found that both his arms were cuffed (one on the rainspout, and the other by a water pipe), and his legs were held down by two of his men. He wanted to talk. He wanted him to hear him out, but the pain on his nose was just unbearable - it was like several knives slicing right through his upper maw, and felt it right on his teeth. Trevor realized he began to choke a little on the blood that streamed from his snout, and began to even cough a little of it. The blood was soaking the jackalope's hand....but, he never let the grip go. "Now," he started, "When I let go, you'll tell me what I want. And I don't want to hear a backstory, I want the details of what happened after our last meeting."

Trevor nodded, though, he began to squirm even more now as he felt the pain reach to all of his teeth, "So, Trevor..." he began. "I gave you simple instructions to give me the details as to where the shipment will be...but, it seems like you never came out with it."

Trevor's eyes watered, and sobbed, as he saw how the female beside him had a Sig that was dangling from her fingertips; she was a hyena from how he noticed the spots around her face. "What's more, Trevor," he continued, "is that I'm hearing some terrible rumor that you sold out the information to another buyer - in light of the fact that you had a contract with us."

He tightened and twisted his grip, and made Trevor shudder and cry out in pain. "Now, Trevor...the only answers I want are: how much did they pay you, who are they, and where are the shipments now?"

He gave him a moment to let the fox answer, and Trevor nodded, quickly, and pleadingly. At this, the jackalope let go, and let the blood flow from his nose.

It took a minute for him to keep gather his wits, and panted. "I...I don't know who bought it," Trevor started, coughing a little blood, "Wh-when it happened...I was...approached by a c-courier with a letter..."

"Do you have the letter?" the female interrupted now, with a strong and firm voice.

"N-No...one of the instructions in the letter w-was to burn it right after..."

"And what did they want you to do?" his boss said.

"Only to just...deliver the location o-of the shipments to a dead drop l-location..." Trevor continued, and sat up a bit more to make himself comfortable on the dank, and wet, alley floor, "...a-and that the payment would be there waiting for me, if I was i-inclined to do so."

The female scoffed and shook her head, and heard her whisper, "Oh, inclined to do so."

Bitch... Trevor thought, but continued, "Th-They paid me ten grand...cash."

All of his men looked at themselves and murmured. He knew that ten thousand dollars was a lump sum. Not to mention, in cash. Trevor knew the risk...but, the money clouded his judgement - and now, here he was.

He was about to continue, but the jackalope interrupted him, "Where are the shipments?"

Trevor gulped, "I...I don't know...agh!!"

Before he could continue, the fox felt sharp jab right on his left side, and made him cough and groan. The hyena kicked him, and felt her claws dig into him, and saw the spot where kicked began to bleed a little, fuckin sharp claws, you cunt!

Trevor felt the bloodied hand of that jackalope grasp his chin, and made him stare up at his unconcerned face. "What did I just tell you about giving me answers I didn't want?"

He whimpered, "I-I swear, b-boss-man...I don't fucking know!"

The grip on his chin tightened. "Is that your final answer?"

"Sh-Shit, boss-man...g-gimme a break! A-All I was supposed to d-do was give th-the location to ya!" Trevor pleaded, "When I came over to the pier to get the location...a-all I got was a friggin' flashdrive..!"

After that, everything went quiet. All except Trevor's gasping and groaning, and whimpering. He looked at everyone and saw how quiet they were. So, he continued: "L-Look...I-I'm sorry. I-I don't know where it went...I-I'm sorry I double-crossed ya...b-but, I got a mom a-and she needs--ooghh!!!"

Once again, he felt that deep jab of the clawed foot on his belly, and made him cough up blood now. Internal bleeding..,?

It was another silent minute. This time, though, it was his boss that broke the silence. "I understand," he started, "Thank you, Trevor."

At this, he went on to uncuff the fox and freed him. A surprising relief; he didn't want to believe. But, he stood up, and looked around him - they weren't stopping him. Trevor chuckled, nervously, and sighed in relief, "Th-That's it...?" He started, "W-wow, b-boss-man...I can't beli--"

A flash in his face, and a bang that rang along his ears. Before he knew it, Trevor began to travel back in time...as the little sphere of metal forced through his forehead...to when he got the news that his mother was terminal...the sphere broke right through the skull...to when his girlfriend was killed in that bus accident...it sliced right through both his lobes...and then when he met her...and, as the bullet exited behind Trevor's head...his memories stop at his eighth birthday, when his mother made him such a nice little cake, Happy Birthday, my little one!

Trevor looked up, and saw how a patch of sky opened up to the sun, in this dreary day - he liked to think that it was for him. He liked that.

Trevor fell to the floor, and left quite a stain on the wall. So much pressured blood in his head, he thinks he overdid it, again. I think I made him panic too much...

The female hyena walked up to him, and snatched the gun from him. "What in fuck did you do that for, Rio?!" she scolded, "He could've told more things!"

"He's got nothing else to tell me, Bennie", Rio replied, and wiped the blood that splatted from his face with a handkerchief. "At least, nothing else that we don't know."

"Yeah, as far as we know: he, practically, repeated everything we know", Bennie grumbled, "And, what the hell does that tell us?"

"One thing," Rio continued, as he pulled out some peppermints from his pocket, and suckled on them inside his maw, "It confirms what we already know."

He signaled his men to clean up the mess, and he and Bennie began to walk back to the car. "Yeah, and how the hell does that help us again?" Bennie commented, "We literally broke every arm and leg, and face, we came across to find out where the shit this shipment went, and we keep ending up in the same shit heap - I'm starting to think we're in a wild goose chase here, boss."

"And that tells us another thing, Bennie," Rio continued, as he went into the back seat of the car, and Bennie began to drive, "All that means is that the information for the shipment was compromised from the beginning."

Bennie stopped at a light, and raised her brow at her superior, "Alright...that's a bit extreme. What exactly made you think that?"

"Trevor was the last piece of that puzzle", Rio continued, and thoughtfully rubbed his chin. "He didn't know what the location was, or even how it would be delivered to him...not to mention the fact that this 'mysterious buyer' never actually came to him..."

"The dead drop locations we found..." Bennie interrupted.

"...were empty by the time we got there."

Rio exhaled, and stretched, "Which also tells us that this 'buyer' was fully intent on getting this shipment." He looked outside, and looked up at a faded billboard of a familiar delivery service. "...which, in turn, tells us that they're organized and well-funded."

Bennie groaned and almost hit a hotdog stand by a sidewalk as she made a sharp, left turn. "So, you're telling me...that our 'buyer' might be someone that's better than us?"

"No." Rio replied. He didn't continue, though, and grabbed his phone and speed-dialed a number he wishes he didn't have to dial again. No answer. That was a relief. But, he still needed to talk to him. So, he speed-dialed again.

A female voice answered. "Ingram Logistics and Delivery Services, this is--"

"Good afternoon, Lilah," he interrupted her, "Is my father in?"

"Oh, Mr. Rosario!" she gasped, "I-I'm afraid your father is meeting with some board members..."

"Please patch me through him, Lilah..." Rio sighed, as he massaged his forehead.

Bennie knew all too well how Rio hated to do this. This was his mistake; he hates fessing up to them. Especially, when it's an important shipment like that one.

"...tell him there's a problem with our...other business."

"Y-Yes, sir..." Lilah responded, almost to a whisper. And the other line hushed for some time.

"Bennie?" Rio asked.

"Yeah, boss?" She replied.

"Do you know why I killed Trevor, his mom, and those people at the pier?"

Bennie stayed quiet. She knew the answer all too well.

"Why did I kill them, Bennie?"

"I don't know, boss."

"Hah...that's right. I don't know."

She kept driving. And he was still waiting for the call to patch through.
