#9 of Unusual Love

It was Wednesday, and a storm system had just entered the area. It is predicted to last through Monday with very little breaks in the downpours. This was terrible news to Lucy.

Thunder roared across the sky, "Oh, come on! Why did it have to rain?" Lucy said aloud. It was still before class time, and only five students were in the homeroom. Lucy stared ahead at the clock to see that there was twenty minutes before the bell. (Why did my mom drop me off so early?) she thought to herself as she buried her head in her arms in an attempt to drown out the sound of the rain. Unfortunately, it didn't work out so well. She looked up with disgust in her eyes to see Sam standing in the doorway, wearing a big smile on his face. (Ugh... why is he smiling like that? I've never seen him like this before...) her thought drifted off as a bolt of lightning crashed down near the school. The smile never left Sam's face.

A quick power surge later and all the power was out. Some screams could be heard down the hallway, but generally the students were calm. Sam slowly walked over to his seat. As he sat down, Lucy gave him a confused look, :Why are you so happy? This is terrible! It's all wet and rainy and thundery and... wait," a thought ran through her head, then she whispered, "you're a cat, right? Why do you like the rain so much?"

Sam looked at her, then said, "Why? I'm not sure. Maybe it makes the air smell clean, maybe it calms me down, or maybe when it rains everyone is miserable which makes me look happier. Who knows?" He finished speaking just in time for the emergency power generator to kick in.

Shortly after the lights came back on, an announcement was made, "Attention all students. Due to the recent power surge, and a quick overview of the damage, all classes will be cancelled for the rest of the week. Please make arrangement to be picked up if you do not ride a bus. Thank you." Cheers could be heard throughout the school. Everyone was thrilled except for Sam and Lucy. Their attitude didn't change.

"Dammit! My mom can't pick me up, she's on a business trip. I gotta walk now." she shivered at the thought of walking in rain. Sam put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her in close.

"Don't worry about it. I'll walk you home and keep you as dry as I can." Sam said in a very calm tone. Lucy looked at him then quickly wrapped her arms around him.

Here they were, at the front entrance of the school. A heavy downpour just overtook the gentle rain and Lucy couldn't keep her composure. She was shaking and her claws were clinging on to anything they could find. Since they were still wrapped around Sam, he felt her fear, and his skin felt pain. He took off his jacket and draped it over Lucy's head. "Well, shall we?" Sam said mockingly. With a low pitched growl, Lucy walked out with Sam.

It was puring down, and she couldn't keep her body dry with the ever changing winds. Whenever it blew the rain in her face, she screamed and dug her claws into Sam's side. He didn't notice it, though. He was to interested in the rain. "Isn't it wonderful... It's amazing how it can just come down as much as it wants and no one can control it. Don't you think?"

Lucy looked at his eyes with anger fueling her body and said, "You really are the strangest person I know. Seriously, how can you like the rain so much? It doesn't make any sense!" her words were lost on deaf ears. She shook her head, careful not to lose the jacket, then said, "Oh, before I forget, my mom said I could come this Friday. Is there anything I should bring?" Sam looked straight ahead and shook his head.

"Just bring something comfortable to wear. It'll be a long night." He said. They had just reached the wooded area when Sam stopped in his tracks. Lucy looked up at him, at first to edge him on, then in concern. His smile had completely faded and his eyes were darting back and forth, looking for something. Sam leaned over, then whispered in Lucy's ear, "Does something seem wrong to you?"

It only took Lucy a second to look around, "No, everything looks fine. Except for the fact that I'm standing here in the rain!" Lucy was so irritated by the water that all of her other senses were dulled. Only after she stomped ahead and went under a tree did she notice something. It was faint, but someone had been through here very recently. A human, but not completely. Something odd was here, something that just didn't smell right. Something that smelled like... "Sam!" she yelled, but was too late. She saw someone drop from the trees over Sam.

He spun around just in time to throw the attacker to his side. Like Sam, she recovered quickly, then charged at him faster than Lucy could blink. The attacker was landing almost every punch on Sam, but he seemed to not notice. The attacker was becoming frustrated and when she slipped up, Sam took full advantage. He grabbed her arm and threw her over his shoulder onto the ground, the thump was overridden by a peal of thunder. Lucy cautiously walked over, ready to run at an instant. Sam had the girl pinned to the ground, but she no longer struggled. Instead, she said in an alluring voice, "It appears that you haven't lost your edge, Ghost."

Sam stood up with a snarl on his face. It was clear to Lucy that he did not like this girl. "What are you doing here?"

The girl slowly stood up and removed the wrapping around her face, letting down her long hair in the process. She was a beautiful human, even to Lucy. (She might be a supermodel, or something like it.)Lucy thought to herself. "Is that anyway to treat your fiance?" (What?!) "I thought I knew you better than this Ghost. Either way, that was fun... what are we-"

"Leave this place. Never come back." Sam said strictly. He despised this woman.

The girl laughed, the said, "What? You don't even want to see me?After all we've been through?" She looked over at Lucy, who was now holding onto Sam tightly, "You choose a cat over me? Well, I guess that can't be helped, hormones and all... but still. I have perfectly smooth skin, she has fur. I'll even bet that I'm ten times more flexible than her, plus, I'm willing to do things with you that would make her vomit. Now show me to your home. I need a place to put my things."

Sam grabbed Lucy's hands and pulled them off. He turned around to face her, then said in a serious tone, "Lucy, I need you to trust me on this one. Run home as quickly as you can. Do not under any circumstances try to find me. This bitch... I'll explain later. All you need to know is that if she gets a hold of you, she will hurt you. Do you understand?"

Lucy was still in shock from all this information hitting her like a brick, "Fiance? Do things that will make me vomit? Fiance? Who is she? And what does she want with you?"

Sam took a deep breath, then said, "That's what I want to know. All I know is who she is. She is like me, human appearance, anthro family. Also, she's a crazy stalker. Now run!" with a push, Lucy was running at full speed, ignoring the rain.

It was in the middle of the forest that she started to think clearly again (He has never lied to me before, and when he said that... he was telling the truth. I wouldn't stand a chance against her in a fight, I wouldn't last. All I can do is make it home safely. This way... Sam will have one less thing to worry about.)

She was running at full speed even after thirty minutes. A clearing was ahead, and she could see her house. Lucy ran through the puddles in the backyard and quickly entered her home. She took off her shoes and went to her room for a change of clothes. She took off Sam's jacket and looked at it. It was made of cloth, the kind that wouldn't rip easily, as he would say. It had a complex design on the back, one that Lucy had seen in his apartment. She was amazed how it kept the rain off of her fur, even though it didn't repel any water. It was warm, but thin. In a pocket was a piece of paper. It was a little wet, but still legible. It read:

Dear son,

I know you are trying to get a new life for yourself. Unfortunately, the clan cannot wait any more for a wife. Since you do not have someone that you hold dear as of three years ago, we have found someone for you. Although you may hate her, it is for the good of the clan. Please do not forget where your loyalties lie.

Forgive us

Lucy read the letter, but fear filled her heart. She fell back on her bed and just stared at the ceiling. Something about Sam was brought to light. The symbol was at the bottom of the letter as well. His family was forcing marriage on him. Even besides that, he had not contacted his family in over three years. Something had happened in his past that he was running from. Lucy didn't know why, but she needed to find out.

Awesome, it just rained where I am, and I love it. It is my muse. To tell the truth, I had nothing until today. Then this popped in my head. But I digress, what is the secret of the ooze? I mean Sam? What could be so terrible that even a fearless person would run? Also, the attacker is nicknamed meteor. See? I said a meteor would fall to the earth, didn't I? Anyway, next time will be on a Thursday, but will Sam last for 24 hours? Find out next time, on Unusual Love #9
