#3 of random short stories
This little piece was based off the fallout universe. I hope you all enjoy =)
"Ugh." I groaned as I awoke in my quarters. I looked to my night stand on the right side of my bed, 5:45am. I got up and changed my vault 200 issued jumpsuit, and started out of my quarters to the overseer's office. on the way I passed a few of the other furs that have taken residence down here. Being the fox I am I pickpocketed people only to tell them they are missing something. Taking a few breaths to calm myself because these arguments have always gotten very heated. "Overseer, I understand that you need to protect the vault but if we keep locked in here we aren't going to have enough genetic diversity to keep repopulating!"
The overseer sighed. "If we open that door we don't know what's out there! there might be raiders or worse!" I could see the red fox digging his claws in his paws.
"Then send me out for 6 months if I don't die and I return with armaments for the vault, you can only close that door if we are attacked." I said ready to break his skull wide open.
"Fine, but no earlier nor later than 6 months. Get some rest you'll need it." He said as if he regretted it since the beginning.
My eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas "What?! Y-you wont regret this!" I nearly screeched! taking his paw into mine shaking it. I was nearly sprinting to the reactor level. Once I reached the my destination I bear hugged my friend Josh. Josh was a wolf of average size "wahh!" he yelled as I lifted him of the ground a few inches.
"He agreed!" I said exhilarated.
"What?"
"The Overseer said I could leave and return!"
"When!?"
"I'm leaving tomorrow although I can't return for exactly six months no more no less."
"Six months! Max don't you think that's a little much?"
"No! I'm going to be collecting weapons and armor for everyone!"
"I'm glad you're getting out but it won't be easy you will need food, watch out for radiation, and, a-" I kissed him before he could finish.
"I-I-I... uhh I-" again I kissed him
"stop, I have to go." I was heading toward the armory hoping I can use my 'silver tongue' to earn myself a gun and a few rounds. The guard wearing the standard 'police' outfit. "uhh... hi, um I'm going to be leaving the, uhh vault with permission of the overseer and I was... uhh wondering if I could get a pistol and some ammo maybe?" I sounded and felt like an idiot.
He chuckled at my stuttering making me blush heavily. "unless you have the overseer here you ain't getting in."
"One moment." I looked through my Pipboy until I found the audio clip of the conversation with the overseer. Skipping the beginning straight to the 6 months part. "that proof enough?" I said with a smile only a fox could have.
The guard which was a bull-shark growled. "Fine."
"Yay." I thought to myself. as we walked in I saw a small box of 10mm rounds and pocketed that as he went to find a 10mm pistol itself. The guard came back and gave me the 10mm pistol and 60 (not including the 12 I stole) rounds to go with it. I thanked him and walked back to my quarters, grabbing a knapsack and putting a few foodstuffs in it along with a few water bottles.
The next day the first thing I did was say goodbye to Jake
"Max, you don't have to do this."
"Jake it's for the good of the vault I have to."
"I love you." He said quietly. I hugged him tightly
"I love you too" I whispered before I left.

That was 5 months ago, now I have a small group of 7 waiting outside the vault. At this point we had enough for the entire vault to be armed and armored.
I got on top of a footlocker that someone brought and yelled "tomorrow that door opens!" A cheer broke out and I sat down with my friend James. "You think we have enough ammo?" he asked way to worried
"That door will open and close as needed don't worry." I said with a smile.
Around 12:00pm the door opened I told the group to wait outside the door but in the cave. I sprinted to the overseer's office "We have enough stuff to arm and armour everyone in the vault plus the seven I have waiting outside!"
"Good. I trust that theses people can handle themselves?"
"We waited for two months for that door to open we are all still breathing."
"Well it seems we have some new dwellers."
"thank god!" I said as I left running back to the group. "Welcome to your new home keep it clean guys!" Once everyone was assigned to their quarters I went to find Josh who was exactly where I guessed he would be. the reactor level
"I'm back!" I yelled as I ran to embrace the wolf. we hugged for a good few minutes before we caught up with each other he was just as uneventful as the vault ever was, but I had a few stories to share. at the end of the day me and Josh returned to quarters and cuddled as I shared my stories with him until we both dozed off.
