I wrote this as a present for someone. It's quite cute, and I love how it turned out! So, I'm posting it. It was made by a whim, so, there wasn't much thought put into it. Hope you guys enjoy it!

I long to be in your arms, for they are the fortress of my soul. You brighten my day, my week - my entire existence on this planet that we know as earth.

I paused for a second. This was sounding way too romantic for someone like my husband. I sighed and balled up the piece of paper. This was not going too well. I was good at words, but they had to be perfect for him. I wanted to try another time, but that would've been my ninth attempt. What was the point of this, you may ask. I was trying to set up a romantic dinner, letter, and hopefully a night alone with him. After all, the children we had adopted were out with their friends. It wasn't like our servants were standing around either. They were tidying up the art and music rooms as I sat down to write a romantic letter.

Well, except for one little raccoon. He used to be feral until Erebus hit him with a couple of spells. Then he gained knowledge and could walk upright. He was rather small for his age, but that was okay; it made him out to be more adorable. Unlike my lilac fur, he had the standard stone grey and black pattern. We called him Lightning. It was because he loved sugar, and if you weren't careful with seeing how many cookies he nibbled on, he would move swiftly throughout the house. Lightning also caused a lot of mischief with his companion, Flash, but Flash was nowhere to be found. I was surprised that he wasn't hyper or with the otter in his age range. "Mom?" His voice sounded slightly squeaky - another attribute that made him even cuter.

"Yes?" I sat up in the chair and hoped that Lightning didn't see the crumpled pieces of paper on the floor. I looked at him as he began moving towards me.

"I'm bored," he said, then gave me a small pout. "I was going to see what you're up to."

"Well, I'm writing a letter, and it's a personal letter."

"Personal?" His pout turned into a mischievous grin. "You mean a loooove letter?"

"Yes, that." I smiled and chuckled to myself. Lightning had always teased me about my relationship with Erebus. Then again, this was the same raccoon that kind of wanted a 5th "sibling" around the house. He usually asked me if he could have one. The only one he'd be getting is another fluffy raccoon that I'd pick up from the pet store.

"Let me help you!" Lightning leaped onto the kitchen chair next to me. He faced me and sat down. "I'm not all that romantic, but I can try helping you!"

"Alright, alright," I said, straightening up the pieces of lined paper. "What do you think I should write first?"

"Dear..." He paused, then corrected himself. "Dearest Daddy - I mean Erebus - You are the best thing that's ever happened to me." I wrote all of this down; I wanted to see where this was going. "I love you more than I love cookies."

I paused and joked around. "Am I supposed to love him more than I love cookies?"

"I hope so," Lightning said, looking a little concerned.

"I'm just kidding," I replied.

"Oh! Okay, then!" The tiny raccoon smiled, then continued his train of thought regarding what I should put into the letter. "I love you more than brownies, or food in general."

"Hold on, hold on. I love food a lot."

"That's the point!"

"Oh, I see it now!" I grinned. Who knew writing a love letter would be so fun? I would have to do this a lot more often with Lightning.

"And tell him that he makes you happy inside."

"And tingly, and don't forget warm and jittery."

"Put that in there, too."

I kept filling the pages with Lightning's guidance, and the thoughts became deeper and deeper. I suppose that that would have to do with the Knowledge that was given to him. If I didn't know better, it was as if the raccoon had some sort of crush on someone. I wouldn't know who. You know little boys: they don't want their mothers knowing that they do have a crush. They try their best to hide it for quite a while, but I'm sure I'll figure it out one of these days.

When I was finished, I had about 3 pages telling my husband that I loved him more than food, my job, my makeup (even the limited edition cherry blossom lipstick that I so adored)... And then it occurred to me that I did, indeed, love him more than these things. It turned out to be a true, simple love letter, and I could not have been more proud of it.

"Thank you, Lightning," I began while petting his head. He nuzzled into my hand and let out a squeak - yet another trait that made him lovable. "I guess I really did need some help, and you were the right person to help me."

"You're welcome," he said. "It was really fun telling you what to write."

"I agree."

"It doesn't come cheap though. I charge a cookie per page." At last, he had found an opportunity to get 3 freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I should've expected that it would come to this, but it escaped my mind. I walked to the cookie jar and pulled out 3 medium-sized cookies for him. I sent him to find Flash, and he smiled, saying that he was going to share some with him.

Needless to say, I enjoyed the romantic dinner I pulled together myself. I set the mood with candles and classical music. I made sure he had read the note after we ate, and then we... Well, you know. I think that was one of the most pleasant times I've spent with my husband, and part of it is because of a young
