#10 of Tales of Woe

This is a short chapter, but I think it explains a good bit about the story. And for some reason it seems like a good chapter to gain some feedback on, so if there's any questions or comments about the story feel free to ask.

Chapter 10 of Tales of Woe

Dean, September 28th, 2:41 pm

I felt myself lulled awake by the sun shining through the car windshield and the radio playing some song about haters and players. I sat up and looked around the inside of the car, dazed and confused. I turned to see my driver was James, the cyan colored reptile singing along to the song and tapping the steering wheel as he did so.

"Ahem." He jumped at the sound of my voice and glanced over at me, his face lighting up like a fire just fueled with gasoline.

"Oh- hey! You're awake!"

"Yeah... why are we sitting in solid tra''ic in the middle o' town when I 'ell asleep in an underwater cave?"

"I had some stuff to do. I'm trying to figure out my plan of action for Monday."

"Oh. Right, the apocalypse."

"Heh, everybody thinks that."

"... What?"

"Well Monday isn't the end of anthranity as we know it... I'd say it's just a massacre, but even that'd be a lie. That's Friday. For those three, short days... life will be stable. The unacquainted will learn to use magic, and the acquainted will reveal that they've known this whole time. For three days life will be stable."

"So.. Monday's just the day everyone 'inds out... I goes it makes sense. It would take time 'or the government to 'igure out what to do-"

"No, they already know what to do. In fact... for all I know, we could be in that one universe... No, they wouldn't let that happen."

"Wouldn't let what 'appen?"

"... There's... There's a small- miniscule- chance, that... that they'll reveal it before the attack. The attack's still going to happen."

"But 'o starts the attack?"

"... I'm not proud of it."

"You?! Why would you even-"

"Look, I have no idea why, but I know it's me. ...There's nothing I can do to stop it... There's nothing any of us can do. The government knows it. I know it. Even you know it. We all know it. And I've come to terms with that. I don't know what happens that makes me do this, but whatever it is, I don't want you to hate me for it."

"James, I don't think I could 'ate you for anything. I mean, I' you killed me, sure, but I'd be dead. There's no a'terli'e, so I technically can't 'ate you."

"... Well there is an afterlife, but if you died, I'd like to think I was by your side within twenty four hours."

"Aw... Come here, gimme a 'ug-"

"Driving."

"Next stop light?"

"... Sure."
