#1 of Those Who Walk In Dreams

Note: The story starts with Minks's opening dialog, then when she falls asleep, jumps to Skie's, this will only occur once or twice in this story since it is a little confusing, however if you read carefully you can tell them apart as I put in things specific to that character.

Special Note: Alternate Time Line, WWII happens closer to the year 2001.

Prologue

I look in the mirror...pure white fur, red hair, long rabbit ears, female, happiness...nothing can break my happiness...confusion, fear, why did father have to leave, where is he going, will he return to me....anger, my boyfriend has left me to fight in that stupid war, why is this happening, it is unfair...anger, my friends act cold towards me, they hate me for my father and boyfriend, I have but one friend left, I doubt she will leave me...guilt, my friend and I got into a fight...she will not talk with me...sadness, father has been killed in the line of duty, mother has slipped from reality, she acts as though she is stuck in a dream, distant, nothing will wake me from this sorrow...loneliness, I cry myself to sleep, I have one last though before my dreams take me into their arms...I am alone......

Dark...it is dark and cold here...a black void of nothingness surrounds me...I am naked, soft black and blue fur, fluffy purple/pink mane, female i think...I hear a strange sound, crying, familiar yet not, distant, from another place, not here with me...a presence, I feel a presence with me, kind, like me, a friend...

"Mistress Skie, we have been waiting for you."

"Skie? Is that what I am called?"

"Yes."

"What am I? Where am I?"

"You are thought incarnate, a Dream Singer, one of the Fae of the realm of Som‘Nium Videre, the Dream Vista. As to where you are, it does not matter, for the moment you are in the void between worlds."

"Dream Singer? Is that what you are?"

"Yes."

"What are you called?"

"Countess Arashi. But you may call me Vania."

I see a point of light, small, warm...it fades, then explodes in a shower of gold and silver...pools of color spreads across the blackness where the specks of gold and silver land, like water flowing across a floor...I find my self in a meadow of wildflowers on a small hill over looking an ocean...I am surrounded by others like me, yet they do not look like me, kindness, happiness, more friends...the first gives me gifts, things to wear...the others come forward and give me gifts in turn before stepping back and fading from view as if they never exitsted...one remains, she says she is Vania‘s mate and that she is not of this realm, that she is in fact not Fae, Vania is her personal Dream Singer...her emotions are guarded...I can not see them, yet I sense she is protective of the one she has claimed as her own...Vania, she takes my paw in hers, so soft so warm...She turns me away from the ocean...I gasp in surprise...a paradise stretches out before me...

"Welcome home."

I smile...a new presence, kind, yet filled with sorrow, familiar yet not, it is close by...I turn to look...the presence fades...I catch a glimpse of a young rabbit before she fades from sight, female, snow white fur, luminous light pink eyes, long blood red hair...the reason I am alive...my creator......

Chapter One

Within her darkened room in Paris France, Minks Laflur's sleep was restless. Her dreams of the past few weeks where haunting and scary to behold, and they would chase her from one to another, never leaving her any peace. This is what she had to greet her as her eyes closed.

The second she fell asleep Minks found herself in the tree line of a darkened forest on the edge of a war torn battlefield. Every thing was black and white. Beyond the tree line trenches and sandbag mounds reigned, and here and there a small patch of brilliant red could be seen. She could hear the pop and crack of rifle and machinegun fire and screams of the dieing and wounded, every so often the rifle fire would be punched with the sound of a Abraham Tank or some other large artillery type weapon and an explosion, followed by more screams and shouting.

Minks started to creep from the tree line, towards a town in the distance.

"Do not leave the safety of the trees, it is not safe for one such as yourself." a soft voice whispered behind her.

Minks spun around only to find nothing there. She turned back towards the field, but now she felt uneasy about going into the open space before her. A group of five armed males and a female escorting several unarmed females and a few cubs came into view, moving with the caution of the hunted. Four of the males and the female looked like they might be French Alliance Soldiers, the other male was an American, the rest where civilians. Maybe they have news of father, Minks thought and ran out of the cover of the trees towards them. The lead male saw her and franticly motioned for her to stop and go back into the forest. Minks stopped and was about to turn back towards the forest when there was a coarse shout from in the direction of one of the bunkers farther out into the field. Minks looked and saw a figure pointing at the group and shouting something. The female at the rear of the group spun towards the sandbags, dropped to one knee and lifted her machinegun. There was a defending crack from the gun and the figure toppled over as a spray of red erupted from its black and white chest.

The female stood and spun in one motion and pointing towards the forest shouting "Fuir! Fuir! Tête pour le ligne d'arbres!" at Minks and the others before turning around back towards the sandbags where more figures had appeared and where now shooting at the group.

The female switched her weapon to auto and opened fire, the weapon roaring like some demonic beast and belching a two foot orange'ish yellow muzzle flash as the figures scattered, running for the cover of the sandbag walls.

The civilians panicked by the gun fire, scattered in all directions, most running for the forest but a few towards a nearby wrecked tank. Minks caught out in the open ran with the others towards the tank. She coward there as stray bullets pinged off the tanks armor barely a few feet over her head. A evil looking creature crawled around the side of the tank, it had the looks of a dog that had died and come back to life while it had been rotting away. The other civilians took no notice as it crawled towards Minks its eyes glowing a horrid red. Minks was paralyzed with fear as the creature continued to creep towards her, then just as the thing came within striking distance a shout rang out from behind her like that of a bell, and a very familiar form rocketed past and collided with the creature as it reared back and snarled at her.

"Back thing of the mire, foul beast with no soul, leecher of life! You shall not have my little one so long as I live!"

The newcomer pulled a wicked looking pistol out of a holster at its hip and shot into the chest of the advancing creature, which reared back on its hind legs, pawed at the air, screeched and vanished in a flash of lurid green fire.

The newcomer turned to face Minks and she gasped. It was her father who had rescued her, but there was something not right. The eye color was wrong, her father had dark green eyes, this person had a violent shade of lavender, and in this nightmare realm every thing should be black and white. The figure in front of her smiled, reached out with a paw and taped her on her forehead right above the bridge of her nose. Minks felt like she had been shocked. With a start she awoke in her bed, to find a shadowy figure sitting at the foot of her bed. In the darkness Minks could not make out its features but from what she could see it looked odd, kind of toonish, like something from a Dr. Sues book. The figure turned to look at her, and for a moment she was terrified. The eyes staring at her where a violent shade of lavender and they glowed in the dark like they where lit from behind.

"Fear no longer of the dreams that haunt you little one, for I am your guardian within those realms."

Minks pulled the covers up to under her chin in fear, the voice, the voice was hers but more musical, like that of a small silver bell.

The figure started to sing softly and Minks felt herself drifting slowly back into the waiting darkness, but this time she did not fear what awaited her.

"~Because I have felt your waters, I have seen your sky, and I have walked this ground so long, now I'm tired.

Your tired and confused, and every thing is gone, if it is what you want, then I will follow.

Because I have felt your fire, I have seen your world, I have swam your oceans, I have felt your pain.

Fear no longer the Nights of Mare, shed not a tear for those who have fallen, fight no longer with those who love, forgive those who wrong.

Acting so innocently, you capture my heart and soul, the darkness surges, I will not let it end that way.

Sailing across an ocean of dreams, born on white angle wings, I am there.

I take your world in my paw, I breath the clouds scatter, I blink the sun sets behind the horizon, and paradise arises to take you into her embrace.

Feel at peace and sleep my little one, for you are alone no longer, I will keep watch, until you awaken.~"

Minks drifted into the arms of her dreams, and they where peaceful and happy. At the edge of her dream she could see flashes of light and figures moving around, and could hear a distant battle. Once she saw a figure with glowing lavender watching her from the shadow of a door, she felt a thrill of fear, which faded as the figure bowed and vanished like smoke in the wind.

"I am here, now and always, little one." Said the voice fading with its owner.

In the now lightening room in France, the figure vanished in the same way as the first rays of the morning sun struck it.

"Never alone again." Skie whispered as she vanished.

In a corner of the room another figure, this one more like a shadow than any thing else, watched with horrid glowing red eyes and a smirk on its warped muzzle.

"Yes, never alone again. I will win someday my prey, then you will be mine in all Mind, Body and Soul."
