discipline... honor... duty... its one things humans and dragons should have in common... yet sadly there are many exceptions to this... amongst both races.

Shyvana shifted in her bed as she dreamed of the words her father told her. She opened her eyes unable to bare it any long. One of the possibly worst things about being a hybrid of two very different races was the fact that she never had a normal sleeping cycle. Humans slept for 8 hours and dragons needed non, despite the fact that they could sleep for eons.

She sat on her bed with her back to the wall. Her room was rather empty, she thought in order to kill time. Other elite guards had filled theirs with trophies and mementoes. She herself never cared about such things, though they did provide a good distraction and if there was one thing she had learned from her life it was the fact that fighting and war cant last forever and that she needed to savor each moment of peace.

Much to her relieve came the first rays of the sun, splashing her room from the window. She made a half smile and got up. She discarded her pajamas and got on her armor. "speaking of distractions..." she spoke to herself, making a mental note to visit the blacksmith. Her armor was good and provided her good protection, but she decided it should cover more of her. On her way through the palace she had time to think, there were no servants, for it was too early for them to arrive yet.

She was surprised to see Garen and Xin in the training room so early. Both of them were putting on their armor as she got in. The elite guards wasted no time on pleasantries.

"do you always wear your armor?" Garen asked with a humorous snicker but there was no ill will in his voice.

"do you?" she replied with a smile of her own. Though Garen was at first disproving of her because of her lack of discipline and anger issues, he had a good respect for her because of her loyalty and determination, always knowing that he could rely on her in the thick of battle.

"Fair enough..." he grunted in a tired voice.

"So why are you two up so early this morning" she inquired as she stretched herself out.

"Dont you know what day it is today?" Xin asked her as he swung his spear through the air.

"Yes... it is Jarvan's 22nd birthday. But that doesnt answer my question. There are no immediate threats and Jarvan's life isnt in danger... as far as I know." She replied and crossed her arms, her gauntlets laying thick and heavy up on her.

"Ughhhh.... " Garen gnarled annoyingly as he swung his massive sword and cut a target dummy in half "can we tell her Xin?" he asked without turning around.

"well I suppose..." Xin's heavy accent filled the air as his spear cut the air just then the arena got even louder as shyvana started hitting a punching bag all the while raising her long and thick draconic eyebrow. "Jarvan... confided in us... so to speak" Xin said not breaking his momentum, ever vigilant against his imaginary foe.

"Oh?" Shyvana said as her metal gauntlets clung against one another "well in that case I shouldnt..." she said, wanting to respect Jarvan, one of the few man she truly cared about.

"But this may concern you..." Xin interrupted her "He didnt want us to tell any female about this but... I suppose that its better to be a good friend and a oath breaker then the other way around..." He gaunted displeasingly and at the same time Garen hit his dummy a bit harder, displeasure obvious in his stance. Shyvana waited, not wanting to interrupt. "He simply told us that... well... his parents may tell him today that he has to chose his future wife" As Xin finished his sentence the room echoed with the sound of a sliced dummy and everyone froze. Garen snarled as he lifted his sword and Shyvana eyed the two men as her own gauntlet was still firmly in the middle of the punching bag.

"How he came to this knowledge he wouldnt say but..." Xin continued but was cut by Garen.

"I am a FIRM loyalist but I am afraid for Jarvan now more than ever. He is one of the strongest people I know, but what if they force him to marry someone from that DAMNED Noxus... I just cant stand the thought, the man deserves MUCH better" Garens face was red with fury.

Shyvana just stood there frozen. Later she would be surprised she wasnt angry, but the news hit her like a ton of bricks. Jarvan... getting married... that just didnt fit in one sentence. She felt a small yet distinct feeling of jealousy building up in her stomach and for a few seconds the surrounding world was nonexistent to her.

"Now now, Im sure it wont come to it... and even if it does Im sure his parents will respect Jarvans decision. He may be our friend but he is still a prince and only that A PRINCE not the king" Xin tried to calm Garen down, slightly pushing aside his desire to tease him about his own slight crush on Katarina.

"hmp... If I was him... and I speak from knowing him since childhood... I bet he will chose someone close to him, provided his parents' consent." Garen hissed in his own hope as he discarded his sword, he was too angry to practice and he knew it.

"I... I dont know, he seemed to act normal yesterday..." Shyvana's voice was shaky and she herself lost any desire to practice. The elite guard was like a family... at least to her, a family she never had and that Jarvan was getting married was just... unimaginable to her. She honestly wished him the very best but it still shook her.

"Well maybe that was because I WAS normal yesterday as I AM normal today." Jarvan cheerfully with a smile on his masculine said as he entered the room. He was a domineering presence in his armor and his lance in his hand and it was quite obvious he was trying to cheer up his friends.

"YOUR MAJESTY!" Xin called out before bowing.

"Oh come now Xin... all these years and you still do that, its no wonder you duck through every attack I make when we spar" Jarvan's deep voice echoed as he teased his friend.

"Its good you are handling this well jarvan!" Xin said as he laughed.

"DAMN right it is!!!" Garen's voice also boomed as he placed a hand on Jarvan's shoulder and it seemed his mood was improved.

"Jarvan are you sure this isnt some birthday trick you are playing on us?" Shyvana asked insecurely but then she straightened up and regained composure "I mean how can you be so sure that your parents will ask you to marry someone." she asked in the most serious way she could.

"Ahhhh..." Jarvan sighted "these two had been chatty I see" he scolded Xin and Garen "Well all I know is that every time I had been NEAR my parents these past few days my mother had been talking my father's ear off about things such as "my heir" or "my bride" and the fact that 3 days ago I heard her say "we shell tell him on his birthday" he explained.

"Jarvan..." Xin started and then looked to formulate his sentence, but was cut short by the prince.

"NO Xin I did not eavesdrop on my parents, they are my parents and I live with them and as such, i can not avoid hearing them." Jarvan sighted.

"Excuse me... Jarvan... I shell leave you alone to discuss this with them" Shyvana struggled to find the words as she hastily left the training arena.

"ahh..." Jarvan sighted even deeper and placed a hand on his forehead "THIS is why i told you NOT to tell any female about this..." It was the last thing Shyvana heard as she left the arena.

Calm down Shyvana this is just a normal procedure of life!!! she screamed at herself as her thoughts ran rampart. She had NEVER expected this to happen and despite downright knowing that marriage, especially in the royal family, was a normal yet important thing, she could not help but feel her rage build up. While most dragons were honorable most of them were greedy in their own way, often hoarding gold. Shyvana was no exception to this and while she didnt hoard gold she did feel that Jarvan belonged to her, at least emotionally. Slowly yet suddenly she felt the rage overcome her, her sharp teeth grinded against one another and her fist clenched as small sparks of flame and embers started flowing around her. She usually treated Jarvan as a brother of hers but now she was jealous beyond reason.

"Shyvana?" she felt a hand rest on her shoulder, snapping her out of her trans. She turned around to face the intruder, only for her eyes to meet those of Jarvan. She backed away a bit in surprise.

"Yes my prince" she tried to say calmly, yet her sharp features betrayed her anger, her horns were more prominent and it was obvious she was angry, even if that was an understatement.

Jarvan smiled at her and took her hands in his own "Calm down there, if I didnt know you any better I would think you would transform right now and eat every woman on this planet in order to stop me from marrying them" he teased her and it worked. Her face went from being red with anger to being red out of embarrassment "I told them I didnt want any female to know about this, because I dont want to hurt anyone. You and the elite guard are like a family to me and I promise nothing will ever change that. As for my parents, I know what I will say to them." His calmness passed on to her and she was soothed.

She gently took her hands out of his and said "I see... may I ask what will you tell them?" her eyes burned with excitement.

The prince looked down, clearly saddened "What any sane man in my place would do, tell them I am not ready for such a thing. Yet I fear..." he took a pause before formulating his sentence "I fear that when father and mother make up their minds there is no saying no to them... and if that is indeed a case again I know how I respond to that." he smiled again, smiling usually fit his masculine face but it was quite evident that this smile was a fake one and Shyvana knew what that meant.

Once again heat started emitting form her "well then..." she struggled not to hiss the words "may I know who the lucky lady is" there was a hint of sarcasm in her words but she really wanted to know.

Jarvan still tried his best to hold the fake and sad smile on his face as he said "No Shy... I dont think that is for the best... not at this moment." he very rarely called her shy and it was only to calm her. He tried to place a hand on her shoulder but he felt immense heat radiating from her. "I see... well you are free to use the training room, Ill tell Garen and Xin to clear out, just dont burn the whole palace." And with that the prince turned around and went back in the training arena.

"Noo..." Shyvana whispered, a single tear formed in her eye and evaporated the same second. It is his decision and you will respect it, she kept repeating that to herself. After a few seconds she burst into the training room and started destroying the dummies as she vented her rage. The whole palace echoed with the sounds of a raging dragon.

"THIS!!!" Jarvan shouted angrily "IS why I told you NOT to tell anyone, especially females about this... and to Shyvana of all people." he yelled at Garen and Xin who only looked aside, knowing it was their fault. They tried to explain themselves but Jarvan cut them short "Nevermind... Ill go and see my parents right away... they will summon me sooner or later, I just want to get this over with as soon as possible..." With that he left the two. He couldnt be angry at them, he knew they only meant the best for him, still this was neither pleasant nor nice and he just wanted it to be over with so he could enjoy his birthday in peace.

"well that didnt turn out to be good at all" Garen murmured as he left as well.

This left Xin alone, he had time to reflect on all of this and being wiser then his years suggested he sighed as he came up with a plan. He reached the training arena again and entered it, only to see Shyvana ripping a target dummy to pieces.

"IM BUSY" she yelled. Xin calmly smiled and sat on a chair.

"You know, im not the one for spying, but Jarvan is going to see his parents as we speak. If it really matters that much to you, you can hear them speak yourself." with that he got up and left. He only hoped his plan didnt back fire on him.

Shyvana just stood there alone, finally calmed and lost in her thoughts. She walked in circles and thought about the situation. The door to the chambers where the king and queen reside were heavy but there was a window next to it... she calculated and after a few moments she sighed, there was no way she could spy on them unnoticed. But then it hit her, there was someone who was just agile enough. Vayne or Quinn and while she didnt know where Vayne was at the moment she knew fully well where to find Quinn. Shyvana rushed to the barracks adjacent to the Palace and like every morning she found Quinn there, practicing with her eagle Valor.

"QUINN!" Shyvana called out as she rushed to the ranger.

"Oh hello Shyvana" Quinn responded, surprised as the excitement of the half dragon "what brings you here this morning?" she asked politely.

"Quinn there is no time! Just listen to me! The king and the queen are going to talk to and attempt to persuade Jarvan to find a bride! that is to marry some!" Shyvana said as she gasped for air "he is heading to them, you need to get to the window of their majesties room in order to hear them!" she explained.

It was not often, but Quinn was confused. She stood there looking at the half dragon "wait, you just shouted my ear off about spying on the king and made sure everyone can hear you and you want me to do that? Also how do you know for sure..." The baffled ranger asked.

"Jarvan confirmed it to me. Please Quinn, you are also Jarvans friend, he tried to keep this a secret from us and will no doubt continue to do so. We need to know" Shyvana resisted saying 'i need to know' "dont tell me you arnt a little bit curious."

Quinn made her mind and made a half smile "well, usually I would deny such a request but in this case I cant say no cant I. Very well wait for me at the old depository, Ill meet you there once I get all the details" and with that Quinn departed with a sprint of her own.

Those few hours were some of the longest in Shyvana's life. The morning slowly turned to noon and there was still no word from Quinn. With each passing minute the half dragon grew more weary. "what if he chose's Quinn as his queen?" she talked to herself. She would make a nice queen and if I had to chose she would be one of the few worthy of Jarvan's hand in marriage. She thought to herself, she still felt jealousy at the thought, but she could stand seeing Jarvan with someone as honorable as Quinn, but what if he is forced to marry some evil scumbag from Noxus as Garen said? Nobles were known to marry out of interest, not out of love. It was noon already, what took her so long.

Her thoughts were interrupted as finally the door screeched opened and distinct feminine voices were heard.

"Ohh zis is soo exciting! what if he chose's me!?" There was no mistaking that accent for Shyvana, it was none other than Fiora.

"Oh calm yourself." Vayne said as she entered the room. The two women were accompanied by Quinn who seemed lost in her thoughts. "This is another candidate!?!?" Vayne called out in surprise as she saw Shyvana "Then again it is possible" the huntress pondered.

All the tension was driving Shyvana mad with anger "EXCUSE ME!" she called out "QUINN WHAT IS THIS, WHY HAVE YOU BROUGHT THEM HERE! AND MORE IMPORTANTLY WHAT HAS JARVAN SAID!?!?!" she called out in anger as her voice deepened to a more draconic level.

"Calm down Shyvana!" Quinn responded as she was snapped out of her trans "Ill explain everything!"

"WELL DO SO NOW!!!" Shyvana was furious and the three women could just hope the half dragon didnt transform there, right in front of them.

"I had done as you requested and may I say that our prince and Exemplar is as stubborn as he is honorable. You were right, for the best part of an hour they talked about his birthday and such trivial family matters. Just as I wanted to leave the queen asked Jarvan what he thought about marriage and it went downhill from there. To put it short, they dont expect him to marry any time soon, but it will be his top priority from now on Im afraid." Quinn crossed her arms as she uttered her explanation in one breath.

"Not so fixed on the details are you." Shyvana snarled angrily as she calmed down, her fists still clenching "now why have you brought them here" she asked, a bit more rude then she wanted.

"Well during the... argument, the king asked Jarvan did he at least have someone in mind, someone he fancies, someone... well.. you know" Quinn blushed as she recalled the correct words Jarvan the 3rd used.

"Oh i think she does" Fiora said in her thick accent and blushed as well.

"WHAT did Jarvan say" Shyvana was angry yet again.

"Well... his exact words were "yes and she is closer than you would expect father." and after that the king bombarded him with questions such as "is she demacian", Jarvan replied "yes and no", the king asked "is she noble" Jarvan said "yes to me she is" and finally the king asked "would I approve of her" and Jarvan said "I dont know father... but I pray you will" after that it turned into a endless series of questions as to why hasnt Jarvan made his move already to which he said "Im not ready yet, nowhere nearlly ready" everyone listened closely as Quinn explained. "And I have concluded that the four of us are the most likely candidates. We are around him most of the time and we would know if he has another woman next to him" Quinn added.

"Yes and we had ezcluded Lux from the lot because she is noble, so Jarvan would simply say "yes she is" and besides she is Demacian." Fiora happily added her opinion to the lot.

"And all four of us are both Demacian and arent. None of us are exactly born in Demacia itself but we all live in it and treat it as our country, me and Quinn were born outside the city of Demacia yet lived here most of our lives, Fiora is only half Demacian and well... you know your story already." Vayne expanded the pattern of thoughts.

" We are all noble in a way and yet arnt. Vayne and I are only honorary nobility, neither of us had a high status in our upbringing and origin, Fiora's family was dishonored and you... well I dont know if your father was a noble dragon, but you certainly fit in the yes and no category of nobility." Quinn finished the trail of thoughts.

Shyvana herself stood there frozen. She did not know what to think. So all of this was real? Jarvan didnt make this up. The half dragon's gut was full of feelings, conflicting feels. One part of her felt happy and overjoyed at the fact that it was maybe her, but the other, more stronger feeling was that of despair, she felt she knew she wasnt the one and she started to tremble. "Im... happy for you guys... I just..." she struggled to find the words as the emotions overcame her.

"Oh ho ho zilly girl! it may be you as well! Bezides, this means nothing, maybe he was just joking? maybe it was someone else? maybe he wont marry at all? OHHHH maybe hez gay!?" Fiora laughed before getting punched in the shoulder by Vayne.

"Excuse me...." Shyvana angrily said as she stormed off.

"WAIT! WHERE ARE YOU GOING!?!?" Quinn called out.

"TO SPEAK WITH THE EXEMPLAR!!!" Shyvana angrily shouted back.
