Taunts and Transformations for DrakeHavok by Draconicon

Kyo ducked around a corner, but he knew that the bullies were right behind him. The humans wouldn't let up just because he'd left the school grounds. If anything, that would only make them bolder, particularly considering that there wouldn't be any authority figures to stop them from doing whatever they wanted to him.

His three tails bounced and swayed behind him as his arms pumped at his sides, the kitsune desperately looking from side to side for any way out. There were alleys nearby, but they all ended in a dead end, and even with his tails, there was no way that he was going to climb out before they caught him. He wasn't a powerful member of his species, even with three tails to his name.

A rock clipped the back of his head, and he stumbled, falling against a garbage can and tumbling to the sidewalk. He caught himself before he could crack his head against the ground, but by the time that he'd pulled himself to his feet, his tormentors had caught up to him.

Several pairs of hands grabbed him by the wrists and shoved him against one of the nearby buildings, cracking the back of his head against the bricks. His fellow students smirked at him, their leader - a blond-haired little shit that was passing his classes by the skin of his teeth - standing in front of him.

"People like you have no business being in our school, foxy. You shoulda stayed out of the city, where you belong."

"I have every -"

He was interrupted with a fist to the stomach, the three-tail leaning forward as he sucked for breath that was punched out of him. The humans laughed at him, and the leader yanked his head back up, pulling him by the ears.

"You ain't a human. You'll never belong around us."

"You aren't...you aren't behaving very humane right now."

"Hey, we ain't gotta be humane, just human!"

"It's -"

Another punch, another gasp for breath. This time, the human leader yanked his head up harder, slamming him back against the building again. He pulled his fist back, and Kyo realized the next hit wasn't going to be one he could just hide from.

"You hit me in the face, the teachers are gonna know."

"Heh, they ain't gonna believe one of you over a human. All they can do is make us do it where they can't see."

The horrible thing was, they were right. Most anthros weren't in the best of places, even with all the new laws that were improving the city. Humans as a group were split between those who were pro-anthros, and those who were anti-furs. Anyone that fell in between was a rarity, and Kyo had yet to meet one.

As the humans laughed, he braced himself. He just hoped that it wasn't on his eye or nose; those could really break something, and he didn't -

"Beacun Vulpienes."

The strange words were immediately followed by a flash of white light, the blast coming with enough force to knock the humans off of him and to the ground. Kyo immediately pulled back, leaping up one of the nearby street lamps and using his tails to pull himself a bit higher as he looked down at his tormentors.

To his shock, the white light rapidly transformed their bodies, bringing out a similar orange-red fur coat to what some of the true foxes had, and even granting them tails. Their feet exploded out of their shoes as they grew proper digitigrade feet, and their faces expanded, lengthening into thin muzzles.

Kyo watched it all in shock, glancing up and down the street for the one responsible. There was no other kitsune - magical or otherwise - to be seen, nor was there any other magical species. No dragons, no phoenixes, nothing that might be something capable of casting spells. That would leave only -

He spotted the human. Considering the glowing, sparkling book that he carried, it had to be him. Kyo stared as the human came to a stop under the streetlamp, and watched the obvious spellcaster examine the bullies that were still writhing on the pavement. By now, they'd been totally converted from human to fox, and it was unlikely that they'd turn back to normal on their own. He knew enough about magic that transformation tended to be permanent unless reversed by another magic user.

Of course, considering that the school employed several, the foxes would likely be back to normal within a week, but it was still a nice bit of revenge to think of them in anthro bodies for a little while.

Then, to his surprise, the human turned to look up at him.

"I assume that you're alright?"

"Are...are you talking to me?"

"I am looking at you."

"Um, yes, so you are." Kyo nodded. "Um, yes, I guess so. Couple of bruises, but -"

"Good. Then you can go on your way."

"Wait!"

He swung down from the streetlamp, using his tails as ropes to swing down to the pavement again. He came down with one boot on top of the new muzzle of one of the foxes, but he couldn't really bring himself to care as he hurried after the mage.

"Why'd you save me?"

"I was testing out a spell."

"...What?"

The human shrugged.

"I was testing out a spell. You were in danger, there were a number of people there that were obvious targets. It seemed like as good a time as any, not to mention that it served two purposes. Saves time, you understand."

"So...you weren't really trying to save me?"

"Oh, don't get me wrong. What they were doing was bad. They should have been stopped long before I got there. But they were also good subjects to work on. I only had to use one spell instead of two. Net win."

Kyo wasn't quite sure how to feel as he walked alongside the mage. Yes, the human stated that he should have been saved, but the idea that he'd been rescued by an experimental spell - one that he was well in range of when it was cast - was more than a little unnerving, and left him wondering just how much the human would have cared if he'd been caught in the blast radius.

Then again, the simple fact was, he had been saved, and he had the human to thank for that. So, Kyo kept walking alongside him.

They walked past the school, and then down a couple of side roads towards the library, and the human maintained his silence. They walked in, the human checked out a book, and they walked out again with hardly a word. They reached a fast-food restaurant, and they were about to walk in when the human finally whipped around.

"Stop following me!"

"I...I thought you were okay with it."

"For a little while, but you've been walking with me for three hours now. Stop it."

"But -"

"Go home."

"But...it's all the way across town."

"Then you better get walking."

The human stepped inside of the restaurant, leaving Kyo to stare in shock. How could his rescuer just leave him in the lurch like that? He had to know that it was dangerous to be heading out there this late, not to mention -

He caught sight of a few people wandering down the street, humans wearing the colors of a very anti-fur gang, and Kyo darted inside the restaurant. He caught a few glances from some concerned employees, but hurried up to the human's place in line. The mage turned to look at him in annoyance.

"I told you -"

"Please, just let me stick around for a while longer."

"...Fine. But after I leave, you go home."

"I'll do anything. Please, just...What's your name?"

"...Sol, why?"

"Sol. My name's Kyo. I just...I need someplace safe for a while. I mean...you know what it's like. Magic student and all, I bet it was dangerous for you too, when you were first starting."

It was a gamble, but at the look on the human's face, he knew that he was guessing right. Magic wasn't that much more accepted than anthros were, though it was something that had been around for a bit longer. Anthros knew it, and some of the species had it naturally, so they were used to it. Humans, on the other hand...

Finally, Sol nodded.

"Fine. You can stick around. But just until later, and I'll walk you back so you don't stick around for too long. Deal?"

"Deal."

Better than he was hoping for, at any rate. He was about to relax when Sol looked at him and held up one finger.

"On one condition."

"What's that?"

"You're buying dinner."

"Heh, deal."

He paid for the human's meal as well as his own, and the two of them went to an out of the way booth of the restaurant. The gang came in at some point, during the meal, but they rapidly backed off when Sol lifted his hand and showed off a bit of light magic. In fact, most of the restaurant backed off, leaving the two of them alone.

The kitsune was good with that. At least they'd be safe for a while.
