Wrote something to place before chapter one, just to establish some things. Chapter one is getting a few changes to flow better out of this prologue, and Velvet is being changed to a fox because I wanted to. Please provide feedback. All criticizes, whether constructive or not, will help.

Prologue

She regained her consciousness, but not her memory of where she was or why she was here. The world came to her focus, the fox finally saw the blood on her hand. She found her squad scattered across, their lifeless bodies broken, torn, and red. In front of her, the target. The man stood, his face covered by his gas mask, but his eyes still showed fear and confusion. He loosened his grip on the open vial of red, letting it fall to the ground and shatter. "No... The virus... You should be dead..." He motioned to his mechanical guard that had sat in the corner of the room, commanding it to finish her off. She had to act fast, so she pulled the knife out of her leg, letting the blood drain from her body. Something felt different to her. This wasn't supposed to be so easy. The machine fired its auto cannon at her, but she was able to duck out of the way, seeming to dodge the shots. She ran up to the machine, thrusting the knife into its metal plating. The knife met no resistance as it stabbed right through down to the main circuit board. The machine fell to the side. The man responsible moved to draw his gun on her, but in his panic the gun fell to the ground. She turned to face him, drawing her pistol on him.

"What have you done to me?"

The man stepped back a bit lifting his hands above his head. "Please, don't kill me. I was only running test. I didn't want to get involved in any of this, I swear. This wasn't my idea."

She didn't accept his cries. She pulled the trigger, but the bullet wasn't what killed him. The blood at her feet snaked across her body all the way to her arm then down the barrel of the gun. It flew ahead, beating the bullet to its mark, stabbing right through the targets throat. She watched as he died, hearing the sound of one of her squads last working radios trying to pick up a message. She picked it up and stepped out of the room, letting the man die alone. "Command to Black Squad, do you read?"

She took her time to respond, still trying to grasp what had happened. "Black Squad leader to command, mission is complete. Target has been removed."

She was met with what seemed like a whole minute of silence. "Velvet, we saw the whole thing. If word gets out that you were with us, if they know what you did they would-"

"I don't even know what I did."

There was another minute of silence. She pieced together enough of what happened, but she still couldn't believe it.

"Their blood is on your hands Velvet. You are being discharged. There will be no extraction. You are no longer a part of Alpha Incorporated."

The radio connection was gone after that. Velvet was alone, with nobody around who would live long enough to care.
