#11 of Pioneer State

Short Chapter. Getting one new character intro before we delve into some sexiness. Hopefully tomorrow I get into the next bit. Red - hope it's ok.

Aden sighed as he walked down the tree lined sidewalk between the two buildings. He could see the two shark boys, Jason and Ben, standing next to the steps to the English Arts building. He held his head high as he strode past. He'd heard plenty from Dex about the two, and they now knew he was a "good friend" of Dex's and part of the herd. The black Arabian smiled to himself as the two caught sight of him for the first time.

He was wearing his tight white shirt, and black shorts, and rubber hoof coverings to protect his feet from the hard concrete of the sidewalks. Dex had told him about the two, and had indicated that they needed friends, and someone to help work them into the herd, though the two had no idea they were part of one yet. Dex had simply said "I asked them to meet you so you could get to know each other since we're all on sports teams."

Ben strode over first. At least Aden thought it was Ben. Dex had told him that the more confident of the twins was Ben, the more reserved and argumentative was Jason (the elder). Ben smiled toothily at him, his sharp teeth shining in the sun. He wore some type of oil protectant in the sun to keep his skin moist in the dry air. He was very muscular, but lean as well, very lean. His skin shone and his muscles were much defined if not bulky.

"Hey, Aden?" The shark nodded to the Arabian who smirked back and tossed his head. "Yeah, not too many of us black horses around are there?" Aden thrust his hand forward and took the rubbery hand in his smiling at the slightly shorter shark. Jason grunted from behind his brother. "Yeah, and not too many sharks either. I hear you're on the football team?"

The older shark grimaced. Hrm, I wonder what chip he has on his shoulder. Aden nodded. "Yeah, I have a scholarship, they offered one to Dex too, but well, he didn't want to be held down to one possible future." Aden shrugged, re-settling his backpack as the three set into a pace down the sidewalk. Aden noticed both tails kept snaking around behind him, very close to his back. He didn't know really how to feel about it. He hadn't had a chance to read up on Shark behavior, but from everything he did know it didn't seem aggressive.

Ben nodded. "Same as Jason and I. We received scholarships as well. Seems the swim team could use some good talent, and speaking of which, Dex is one hell of a swimmer!" Jason snorted at his brother. "He's just lucky."

Aden laughed, nickering at the two. "Oh, do NOT under-estimate him. I made that mistake, and I'm still paying for it, but that's a story for another day. Just remember, there is more to that little human than you think."

Jason looked thoughtful, and Ben smiled hugely. "I figured...."

Dex sighed as he toweled off, the white equine coach berating a few members of the team. He caught glances from Ben and Jason, who both returned the glance with a grin. Aden had told him of their meeting and their curiosity of the human. He was getting a bit jumbled in the brain trying to figure out horses, and sharks.

"Lem, you really need to work on your speed. You're agile as all fuck, but you need to learn how to just let go in the straights." The coach was berating the little otter student who looked ashamed. Dex watched the encounter as he continued to dry off.

"I know sir, but well, its hard for me to just let go, I mean, I know I'm fast but...." The otter looked at his feet. He stood maybe only five feet tall and was very lean, but very fast. When no one was watching him, he could out swim anyone on the team, but when someone was watching, he'd demurely keep back.

"Lem, that's no excuse. Give me fifty laps. Dex here will keep an eye on you. I need to meet Mr. Carlson in a few minutes. Dex! Can you make sure little Lem here does his laps on time?" The white horse tossed a stopwatch to the blond human who only nodded. "Sure."

The equine nodded and walked out. Lem sighed, and took his place at the starting line. Dex nodded at him. "On three, one, two three." Dex clicked the stop watch as the otter dove into the pool, his lithe brown body undulating as he rocketed across the pool to the other side, then back. Time after time. He was almost twice as fast as anyone else on the team, Dex, and the shark twins combines. Soon the laps were finished, and the little guy rocketed out of the pool and stood dripping on the side, his fur slicked down with the water. He panted lightly.

Dex just stared. "Why - why do you have problems with swimming so fast when everyone else is in the water? You just beat everyone by a mile!?" Dex raised his arms in exasperation. The two were alone now by the pool. Lem looked down at his feet awkwardly.

"'m not fast...." He muttered. Dex walked over and knelt down in front of the poor guy. "Are you kidding me!? I just watched you!?" Lem wouldn't meet his eye. "My dad was faster, and my sister..."

Here Dex laid one human hand on the otter boy's furred shoulder. "You aren't them Lem, you're you. You are just who you should be, in here....and in the pool." Here Dex touched the lightly muscled furred chest. When he did so, Lem broke down sobbing.

It took several minutes for Dex to get Lem to calm down and go change in the showers and meet him back by his locker. The poor guy sat down on the concrete bench, and watched as Dex changed. He'd had no sense of embarrassment about his body, and didn't mind who saw. Lem watched intently as the human changed.

"So? Tell me, what is it Lem? You're fast, smart, courageous, and funny. Why are you so afraid in the water?" Dex pulled his shorts off and found his jock in his back, slipping it over his muscular rear.

Lem stared. "It's not who I am." Dex froze. "What does that mean?" The otter coughed a little. "I don't feel right swimming so fast. It's not really who I am." He otter blushed, what skin was visible was beet red.

Ok Dex, go easy here. "So? Who really is? You know my boyfriend is an equine right?" Dex said offhandedly as he pulled on a t-shirt. Lem nodded franticly. "Yes, it's why I'm telling you this." Dex froze again. "What is it you need to tell me Lem. Go head, I won't judge."

That was all the poor otter needed. He rambled off a series of sentences. Dex tried to take it all in, he really did, but he was sorely confused. He'd heard of cross gender. But cross species? Poor Lem told him of his need to be who he really was. To run in the sun, to cuddle up to people, to nuzzle them affectionately, and to...well....to chase things.

"So, you're a pup?" Dex asked his eyebrows furring in recognition. Lem nodded shyly.

Oh God. Well, nothing for it.

Dex smiled. "Cool."

He had to pry Lem off of him some ten minutes later. He was one happy and grateful otter.
