#22 of Isolation

I went into this job thinking it was just another bug hunt, some Scientist dude who got careless with his vials and spawned nothing more than some blood thirsty flesh craving fruit fly or a huge snake. I thought it would be in, kill the monster, get paid and then go be my normal lazy self while I waited for the next job to come up. I assumed it was nothing to twist myself over. I was wrong.

Dead. Wrong

I was taught when I was younger how dangerous and horrible Primal Xenomorphs could be. Due to their hive minds, they had no sense of self, had no free will and would fight to the point of their deaths to ensure that their hive and queen would survive. But above all, I was taught never to allow the Primal instincts that resided deep in the brains of every K-Class to have even the smallest foot hold on your thinking, never to let rage, sadness, pain or any such emotion to cloud your judgment, that doing so was the shortest possible route to your own demise.

But I didn't care about that right now.

I wanted the rage, I wanted to feel the pain, I wanted the sadness, but more than anything else, I wanted Martin dead at my feet. I wanted to tear him to pieces, I wanted to hear him beg for mercy and to be able to ignore them. The longer I lay on the floor of that cell, not being able to bring myself to wipe my mother's blood from my face, the angrier I got, the more hate I felt, the more I wanted revenge.

"Your not getting away from me that easily", I snarled as I put my feet on the floor and stood up. With one swipe of my clawed hands I shattered the bullet proof glass and climbed out of the cell, into the room that bordered it. It was about twelve or so feet back and about seven or eight feet wide. The wall to my right was lined with all kinds of computer equipment, most of which had been deactivated. The wall to my left had only one table with a glowing white injection vial on it. I walked over to it and picked up. The label read,

"Blaze BioScience Chemical 234 Flash Freeze Gene Modification."

I looked back at my mother lying in the cell and then shifted my glance to the vial of swirling, glowing liquid. I took the glove off my left hand and held it up. I curled my hand into a fist and stuck the needle into my arm, forcing the chemicals into my veins, even though I wasn't sure if it would work.

Immediately I felt a burst of cold, like someone had thrown me into the Arctic Ocean on Earth in the middle of a blizzard in the dead of night. A white haze over took my vision, but not so much that I couldn't see what was going on. I felt my insides twisting and a sharp pain in the back of my head. The sounds of cracking bones and tearing flesh filled the room. Both my arms felt like they were on fire as a sharp, full body pain forced me to my knees. The skin on my arms down near my elbow turned a pale color while the Chitin turned snow white. Icicles started growing out of arms and hands. A hole opened up in the palm of my hand and several smaller ones opened up around it and a frosty, blue colored liquid that was so cold it froze the ground when it started dripping out. My hands had become so cold that I could see the water vapor in the air around them freezing and falling to the ground. The cold was unlike nothing I had ever felt, I was surprised that I hadn't passed out. When the pain finally stopped, all that remained was the cold. Once I caught my breath, I was able to look over my hands. They looked like white maces with all the icicles hanging off of them. I remember Martin said that hand potions were what triggered the ability, so I started experimenting with the different poses. I found that if I held my fist upright that the spikes grew out to about four inches long and I could use my whole arm as a mace. If I held my hand like I was holding a baseball, I found that I would get a small ball of ice that was full of liquid nitrogen.

"Interesting", I said lowly, "okay, I need to find a radio."

I walked to the door of the room and peered out the window, I couldn't see anything due to it being so small, so I cracked the door itself open ever so slightly. One either side of the entry way was a long hallway with more doors on each side, I could see one Synthetic security guard walking down the hall to my left, and to my right was nothing. I wasn't sure which way Martin had gone, but I assumed that he had gone to the top of the tower. Using an old Xeno trick, I slipped out of the door without having to open it any more and crawled up the wall so I was on the ceiling. Carefully, so my claws wouldn't making clanking noises on the metal, I crawled down the hall, keeping quiet until I was right on top of the guard, who was still unaware of my presence. There was an open air vent just over the guard that I was able to easily slip into, once I was out of sight, I reached down and grabbed the guard by it's head, dragging it up into the air vent and tearing as many wires as I could from it's neck and head and then braking one of my nitrogen filled ice capsules in the holes, rendering it completely inoperable.

I took its entire kit, body armor, weapons, a P90, Roaring Wolf .50 action with custom grips, laser sight and a huge scope, a combat knife and several hundred rounds of 5.7 ammunition. In the dump pouch of the vest, I found a black PDA with a red logo on it that looked like a squid, I wasn't sure what it was, but I assumed that it was the security logo for biosphere. When I turned the PDA on, I expected to be met with a password, but lucky for me it was unprotected. After flipping through the guards PDA files, I found a map of the tower, including the air vents. From where I was, I had two ways of approaching the top of the tower. I could follow the vents and maintenance shafts to the top and risk getting chopped to pieces by fans, or I could follow the hallways and stairwells and fight the security guards that Martin had likely deployed anticipating my escape.

Air vents it was.

"James", I said getting on the radio, "James, it's Skyline, do you read?"

'Skyline?", James asked, "oh, oh thank fucking God. Shits getting hairy down here, where are you?"

"I'm in the tower", I answered, "I got attacked in the tunnels by a drill tank and the Kojak flooded as a result of the fight, I got flushed down to the lower levels of the tower and Martin kidnapped me. What's going on back on your end?"

"Martin tried to hack the 300", James said, 'CHDISK locked him out, but Tyler says it's only a matter of time before he tries again."

"I'm going to the top of the tower to stop this schizophrenic psycho", I said, "once and for all."

"No", James said, "Sky come back, we need a new battle strategy."

"This fucker killed my mother in front of me", I snarled, "I'm not letting him live any longer than I have to."

James didn't answer me.

"If you die", Matt said over the radio, "I'mma be really angry that my best friend went out and got himself killed."

"I'll come back Matt", I said, "with Martin's head on a stick."

"You better", Matt answered, "or I'll pull you out of hell to kick your ass!"

"Noted", I said shutting off the radio.

I shot another peek at the map and then started following the airduct. At the end there was a branch off. One went straight up, one went to either side, the other went straight ahead. I put my claws into the metal and started climbing straight up. What I would say was about a 100 or so feet later I came another cross in the ducts and went to my right, which put me above the heads of a security blockade I could see four guards packing FAL OSWs with Eo Tech holo sights and foregrips. One of the bots was on an M23 .50 caliber HMG and a second was holding a rocket launcher. I quietly pulled the grating on the vent up and pulled a flash bang out from my vest, setting it down on the steel in front of me. I pulled the Roaring Wolf from it's holster and took the scope off, setting it in the hydration backpack on the back of my vest. I set the revolver down and pulled the clip off the flash bang, tossing it down into the crowd of bots and picking up the revolver.

"Explosives", One bot said in a heavy, electronic sounding voice.

The flash went off and I dropped down, putting a .50 caliber slug into the back of the head of the HMG bot and caving in another's with a swing of my icy fist. I noticed that while the spikes had broken off in the bot's brain pan, more had grown in to take their places almost instantly. I turned my attention to the other two bots in the back, the one with the rocket launcher and the FAL. The bot with the launcher crouched down and shouldered it while the other raised his FAL and lined me up for what I assumed would be a headshot. I lined him up first, putting a shot off from the revolver that tore off the left side of his head and sent him backwards into the steel floor. I now turned my attention to the rocket trooper. The laser sight from his weapon was trained right at my chest and no way was their enough time to line up a kill shot with the revolver, so I produced a ball of the liquid nitrogen and tossed it at him. It smacked him dead in the face and forced him to lower his weapon just long enough for me to close the distance and grab him.

I grabbed the side of it's head with the intention of encasing it in ice, but instead, I soon had an icicle forcing itself through the opposite side of it's head. I found myself smiling as the bot fell to the ground, lifeless.

"That works too", I smiled as I stepped over the corpses to another security door which read, "tower control center."

"Attention all security personnel", Martin said as I unlocked the door and stepped into a long hallway that wound up towards the top of the tower, "a friend of mine has gone missing. If you see mister Skyline Iemse, kindly escort him back to his room and radio me. Heh, good luck boyo."

"Thanks for the shout out ass fucker", I snarled as I cracked my neck. I was ready for a fight, I wanted a fight, so very badly. The hallway wound up the remainder of the tower until I hit a set of wooden doors with a velvet welcome mat. There were two security cameras which I I nailed with ice bombs before I kicked the door open.

The tower looked more like a penthouse suite than it did a control center. The carpet under foot was red wool and there was a leather sofa with a mahogany coffee table and a plasma screen TV. There were four small oak trees in each corner of the room in granite pots and there were two marble counters off to the left side of the couch and TV. One of the counters was short and stubby, while the other was broken into three pieces, two beside a stove and the other next to a fridge. There were dark oak cupboards up over the stove and fridge and every conceivable empty space was packed with some kind of scientific tool or a crate of MRE's.

"MARTIN!!!!", I shouted as I stepped inside, "WHERE ARE YOU!? FACE ME LIKE A MAN!"

"Right here boy", Martin said from behind me.

I swung around and the next thing I knew I was on my back and Martin had a hold of the front of my vest, before I could try and snap at him, he gave me a vicious headbutt that left me seeing stars. The man then dragged me like I was a feather to an open balcony and leaned me over the bars, even though I was dazed, I could see it was an easy 400 or more foot drop.

"You come to screw with me", Martin asked, "IN MY OWN HOUSE!?!"

With the heft of an stone golem, Martin threw me over the edge of the tower and I went plummeting down to the ground below. The last thing I remember before passing out was the sound of my bones snapping.
