A field of blackness was all he could see. He was cold too, but he wasn't shivering. He had no control of his body except for thought, and he thought he had trouble controlling those too. He didn't know where he was but he knew that he wanted to leave. Raymond was left sitting in this black, hopeless place. Waiting for someone to rescue him from this place.

****************************************************************************

Gideon woke up in the morning just like he always does. His dad was already up, so he didn't have to repeat the water balloon thing again. He took his shower, his dad flushed the toilet to the bathroom downstairs, purposefully, Gideon could tell because he heard his dad laughing. He would get him back.

Once the shower got back to the normal temperature he finished up with his shower. He got out, examined his body once again, smoothing out his hair and bending all bent scales back into place so he wouldn't get dirt or anything under his scales.

He got dressed, putting on a black King Kong shirt and a pair of blue jeans, he was gonna be forced to sit under the air conditioning today and he was tired of freezing his ass off everytime. Once done with that, he brushed his hair, making it a smooth curtain of brown silk hanging over the back of his neck.

After that, he went out to his room and started thinking of a way to get back at his father. That took twenty minutes but he figured out the perfect way to get back at him. He made sure his dad had left already, then started to fill water balloons up.

He didn't bother about running it cold because where he would be hiding them is always cold anyways. His dad's room was kept cold, very cold, by his mom. She was barely ever home anymore. She had finally found a job she had liked and she works double overtime to help make the money. She normally comes home around midnight and leaves at five A.M. so he didn't have to worry about her.

The water balloons took forever to fill, but he wanted to fill them up all the way. He took them up to his attic and found the spot above his dad's bed. He thought about his father's reaction when he dumped these on him, he just had to figure out the time he was going to dump them on him.

He left for school, deciding that being early by a half an hour is better than being home with his sleeping sister, Clarice. As usual he was walking, but this time, when he was walking by the hospital he heard two people talking. He couldn't help but listen in.

"... I just hope he will be alright" the male told the girl. "Heaven knows what will happen if he doesn't wake up."

"I just couldn't stand seeing Raymond like that honey," that is when Gideon realized that those were Raymond's parents, then he thought ‘duh!'

He walked over and said "Hi, sorry about eavesdropping but I heard you say something about Raymond?" he asked them. "Are you, by chance, the people who just moved into that house over on Greenwood street?"

"Yes, we are." The mother answered, her voice shaking slightly from her crying. "Who are you?"

"I'm Gideon Restin" Gideon responded, "I met Raymond yesterday at school. We're friends."

"That's good, he never really had friends at our old home." Raymond's mother said, "As you may have guessed, we are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Zasturfintzin."

"Hi," he said to Mr. and Mrs. Zasturfintzin, "so what happened to Raymond?" Gideon asked, trying to keep most of the concern out of his voice, not wanting to make them think that he had a crush on him. Which he did, he thought to himself.

"He got hit by a car on his way home from school yesterday," and at the look of shock and sadness on Gideon's face Mr. Zasturfintzin added, "He's not severely injured, well he's in a coma, but he didn't sustain any other injuries except for a few scratches and bruises."

"Can I go see him?" Gideon asked them, "I think I have time before school."

"Go ahead, we were just leaving." Raymond's parents said in unison. This is when he took in their features. Raymond's mother was a beautiful wolf in her mid-thirties. She had blue eyes, like Raymond, and had snow white fur, only slightly ruined by her tear stains. If he were straight he definitely would have stared at her.

Raymond's father, however, was a perfect match for Raymond, in every way, shape, or form. Same muscles, same eyes, same ears, same nose. It was shocking how much a son could look like his father, but meeting Raymond's parents definitely told him where Raymond got his beauty from.

Turning around, he ran into the hospital and asked the clerk, "Hello, do you know which room Raymond Zaturfintzin is in?" Starting to get urgent he said, "Hurry, please."

"He is in room 294." the clerk said, "But visiting hours are..." she was trying to add just to notice that Gideon had taken off down the hallway. He rushed through the hallways until he found 294, and when he finally found it he bursted in.

There were no doctor's in the room, and Raymond was laying on the only bed in the room. Gideon walked over and looked down in despair, almost bursting into tears at not being able to do anything to help Raymond. He didn't know if Raymond was gay or not but Raymond was his first crush and he didn't want to give him up that early.

He put his hand on Raymond's arm, it was so cold he almost shivered. He looked at the clock on the side of the wall and realized he was going to be late for school. He bent down and hugged the cold, unconscious form of Raymond and hugged it, he kissed Raymond on the muzzle, lightly, but didn't push his tounge in, afraid that if he went to far and Raymond found it he wouldn't like him anymore.

He was happy that he felt a slight response, Raymond's arm twitched and his skin got a little warmer. He left, feeling sad. He decided that he couldn't stand going to school, so he walked home, feeling very depressed.

He didn't worry about his work, his friends would end up bringing it to him, they had a system set up. He also didn't worry about skipping. His teacher's knew that he only wouldn't show up if he really didn't feel good, that's the kind of reputation he held with his teacher's. He would only be marked absent by his gym teacher, that son of a bitch hated him.

He walked slowly, mulling over what he had seen and what has happened. He hoped that Raymond would come out of his coma soon. He felt the loneliness he had felt when he had no real friends, and Raymond had made that feeling go away.

He was still contemplating it when he stepped into his room and fell on his bed.

******************************************************************************

He could barely stand the cold, it was slowly freezing him to death. Sometimes he just wished that it would end already, but sometimes he knew that he had to fight through it. He had memories that made him happy in this dark, the problem was to bring those up.

One time he fell into a good dream for once in this impenetrable blackness. It suddenly turned to a summer day, he and Gideon had been sitting under a tree, talking and laughing, and then Gideon had bent over and given him a hug and kissed him on the muzzle. He tried to return the kiss but he lost control of his body again and it got cold, moving to the blackness once more.

But this dream gave him the will to fight, and he knew that the darkness was getting brighter. He watched the blackness slowly brighten, he started to make out the features of the room he was in. He could smell the Pine-Sol they used to sanitize the rooms. He could make out the ceiling, but then darkness started to come back, it slowly came back, blacking out his vision, his senses. He started thrashing around.

He felt his arms and legs being restrained to the bed so he wouldn't injure himself. He heard doctors bending down over him, trying to stop him from going back into the coma. His senses returned, but he lost consciousness from the pressure that was being put on him.

*****************************************************************************

Gideon woke up later, not even realizing he had fallen asleep, to the phone ringing. He went to answer and heard a cheerful voice speaking, "Hello? Hello? Is this Gideon?"

"Yes it is. May I ask to whom am I speaking?" Gideon responded through the phone.

"This is Mrs. Zasturfintzin, Raymond woke up from the coma." Mrs. Zasturfintzin told him, making him jump up into the air in joy. "I saw your number in his clothes pocket, realizing that you're the only friend he has made. I just wanted to let you know. He's still in the hospital, but you can go see him, visiting hours are right now."

"Ya, thanks for telling me." Gideon said, "It honestly means something when your friend's mother tells you he has woken up from a coma in the hospital, especially when she doesn't know you."

"Well, I also called you because he woke up asking where you were, asking if he could talk to you. I told him I would try to find you and he said that your number was in his pocket." She said, he could tell she was crying out of joy.

"Ok, I will head over there right away." Gideon answered over the phone, "Goodbye Ma'am"

"Goodbye Gideon" she said hanging up the phone, he heard the click and ran out the door. He opened the door to the garage and hopped on his bike. He rode the bike as fast as he could, which is pretty fast, and made it to the hospital in 15 minutes.

He rushed in and told the clerk he was going to see Raymond Zasturfintzin. She said "Ok..." and didn't get to finish her sentence because once again, he had run down the hallway. He turned and slid down hallways, skidding around corners, just barely avoiding doctors and nurses moving through, trying to get to the rooms they are supposed to go to.

He finally made it to room 294 and burst into it. There was one doctor in there, checking Raymond's body for any other injuries, just in case the nurses had missed any. He noticed Gideon bursting in and said, "You must be Gideon. This young man has been asking to talk to you since he woke up." and he added to Raymond, "You got lucky, you have no damages besides the coma and a bump on your head. Try watching the cars next time. I will leave you two to talk." He walked out of the room with a wink.

Gideon and Raymond stared after him, wondering what the wink was for. They both just shrugged and turned to look at each other. Gideon walked over and pulled a chair around. "So, you wanted to talk to me," Gideon said with a smirk, "your mom said you were asking to talk to me as soon as you woke up."

Raymond laughed and said, "So you met my mother?"

"Ya, I met her this morning, I heard her and your dad talking about you being in a coma and I came in to see you." Gideon said, not wanting to get into the details of the visit.

"I remember two things from being in that coma. One, A lot of black. Two, I had a dream about... about you." Raymond said, not wanting to tell him, but realizing that he had to get this out of the way, or something like this was probably going to happen again. "In the dream, it was summer, and me and you were sitting under a tree, and around the tree were all types of flowers, and near the end of it, you bent over and you uh, hugged me, and then kissed me, and I realized something."

Gideon was shocked that what he had done had registered somehow in Raymond's coma but he was getting increasingly curious, so he asked, "What did you realize?"

Instead of answer Raymond sat up, leaved over and kissed him on the muzzle. It was a deep and passionate kiss, not one like Gideon had given Raymond that morning. Raymond pulled out, took a deep breath, and said, "I have had a crush on you since I saw you sitting in the gym yesterday morning. It hasn't been very long since I had the crush, but I figure you have one on me too since you barely know me and you came here to see me in the hospital."

Gideon blushed, "So, when do you get out of the hospital?"

"The doctor said I would be here until at least tomorrow." Raymond answered, "but we could play tennis tomorrow, or something. I wanna know how good you are." Gideon could tell he meant in more ways than one.

"Cya tomorrow, I'll walk over here at 10 to get you" Gideon said with a smile.

"Ya, cya tomorrow Gideon." Raymond said, a smile on his face that reached his eyes.

Gideon hesitated and said, "Wait, are we like, boyfriends now? Or do you want to wait? Cause I know I don't"

"I think we are boyfriends now." Raymond said, smiling harder.

"So, tomorrow is our first date." Gideon said, bending down and kissing Raymond on the cheek.

Gideon left, leaving Raymond smiling. Gideon was smiling too, he rode his bike home, happier than he had felt in a long time, finally feeling that cold feeling that had taken a near permanent residence in his heart. He knew that everything would be good from now on.
