Hello everyone this is my first real story that I'm going to try to keep going. Please feel free to criticize as you will, I really need the help. This chapter actually doesn't have to much going on in it. It is more to set the scene. However chapter 2 is already finished and I will upload it soon. I just want to space them out a little. Without further adieu, please enjoy chapter 1 of Koto.

In the woods of a Hoenn region forest, better known as the Petalburg woods, we find a rather peculiar jolteon. His name is Koto. Koto has not grown up a normal Pokémon's life. He is nineteen now, and seven whole years of his life were filled with hardship and danger. Koto has seen and lost many things. His right eye never ceases to be somewhat bloodshot, there are many scars along the left side of his body, and he wears a tattered red scarf. Despite all this, Koto will soon go through something that even he could not be prepared for, for he has not experienced anything like it in a very long time.

Chapter 1: The Odd One Out

Late at night a leafeon runs down a path in the woods as fast as it can. It bolts through the forest at almost unbelievable speeds. Behind it is a raging charmeleon. The leafeon ducks and dodges around the trees with the charmeleon burning through them directly behind her. The charmeleon fires an ember attack directly at the leafeon. The attack hits its mark and badly burns the leafeon's back right leg. Unable to move quickly the leafeon makes an attempt to limp away, but the charmeleon is upon her now. It reaches down to pick up the injured leafeon, but instead its own hand is burned by unknown assailant. The charmeleon quickly looks around for the attacker, but it can't make anyone out. Suddenly the charmeleon is struck on the head from behind. The charmeleon falls over unconscious and behind it stands a smug scarf wearing jolteon.

"Well that was easier than expected," says the jolteon, "Kara, what did I tell you about picking fights with Pokémon from other areas, and a fire type really!? Look at you. You're a grass type!"

"I'm sorry Koto." Replies the leafeon still shaking in fear from a minute ago. "He started it, he..."

"I don't want to hear it. Go get yourself some berries and rest that leg," Koto interrupts annoyed with Kara's inability to stay out of trouble as he watches her begin to limp off.

Ever since Koto arrived in the Petalburg woods he had sort of just protected the Pokémon in it. It was a nice enough way to live for him, and no one else objected to his impulse to protect the weak from unnecessary harm. Although, no one there really thought of him as a friend either, except maybe Kara. His appearance set the inhabitants of the woods on edge, and no one there knew a single thing about who he was. All they know is that his name is Koto and that he just kind of appeared a few years ago. No one ever tried to make acquaintance with him or befriend him, but they would provide him food and shelter as thanks for protection, and that was enough for him.

The only one in the forest who dared try to hold a conversation with Koto was Kara. Many of Pokémon around the woods would call her 'Careless Karla' of course due to her careless nature. Although every time she tried to converse with Koto, he would ignore most of the things she said as if trying to avoid every subject that remotely has to do with himself.

"Hey Koto!" Kara shouts from far away, "After my leg heals tomorrow, do you maybe want to go into Rustboro and get some real food?"

Koto considered this for second. He didn't like cities that much, and he most definitely didn't like to deal with humans. However it had been a while since he had eaten anything besides berries, herbs, and other things laying around the forest. "Sure I'll tag along. Don't expect me to go be social and stuff though."

Kara's face lit up, and she limped off toward her home. Koto thought of Kara as a sibling, or something close to it. He certainly didn't tell her anything about himself but they got along well. Koto new almost everything about Kara. She was eleven and loved to explore. She was at her happiest when she was meeting new people or discovering new places. Her dad died of a heart attack when she was four. Kara lived with her mom in a small shelter in the woods. She never spent much time at home though.

Koto stood there contemplating on what to do with the charmeleon for a while deciding it was best just to leave as it was. He started walking back toward his own home. On his way he saw some other forest inhabitants. As always they just stared at him. They all do that. Like he is some sort of outcast. Which he kind of was.

After returning to his little camp he curled up and laid down next to a tree. Chasing after the charmeleon was tiring at the speeds at which they ran. He thought about how tomorrow will work out in the city for a while then decided not to dwell on it. Soon Koto was fast asleep.

Koto's eyes shot open. Where was he! What was going on! He heard screams, and he couldn't see much. Everything was so dark. He turned around and suddenly his vision was clear, though he instantly wished it was not. All he could see was the lifeless body of his former trainer. Her corpse laid in an impossibly uncomfortable position. He was shocked. All he could do was stare at the atrocity and hope the terrible sounds of screams would go away. As he regained control of his body, he began to move toward his trainer. As he did the unbearable sound of deathly screams grew louder. Suddenly the trainer's eyes shot open! Koto tried to jump back but he wasn't fast enough to stop the corpse from grabbing him. With an inhumanly possible voice the trainer began screaming at Koto. "SAVE ME! SAVE ME!" all while the background screams grew louder and louder. Koto couldn't get free of her grasp. "DO IT!" she yelled in his ear, "DO IT! COME ON DO IT!"
