Roomies 2: Home, Sweet-WTF?!

Story by Kaard on SoFurry

Killer had been on the road for an hour and a half before reaching the city limits. He'd been here several times before but it still impressed him how much bigger it and busier it was than in his quieter town. It was even more exciting now that he'd be living here!

He grabbed his phone and called his friend Maxine. After two rings she picked up. "Hallo?"

"Maxwell! What's goin on, babe?" Killer said still riding his excitement.

Max growled. "I'm moving you into your new place by myself, is whut's 'goin' on'!"

Killer gulped. "I told you I'd be late, Maxy..."

"And I told you that the movers were already here...!" she whined, then sighed, "Well, at least your roommate's around to help..."

This had Killer confused. "We have another roommate? Anyone I know?"

"'We'?" Max said, "Oh! How did I forget to tell you? A girls dorm opened up. Don't panick! I found you a reliable roommate though. You'll have plenty in common! He's new around the city too!"

"'He'?!" Not again! "Dammit, Max! I told y-"

"This was a coincidence! Not a hook-up!" Max said defensively, "...Although now with Xix out of the pictu-"

Killer could hardly beleive he'd hung up on his best friend. He could beleive even less that she would try to set him up so soon! He'd just moved out, effectively dumping his first love, his best friend, and closest family all in one shot! Hell no is he going to be ready to get close to anyone!

Still... She did it out of love and concern for him. Finding that he was close enough to his new pad he figured he'd just talk to Max in person.

The moving vans were leaving just as he was pulling up to the appartment building. Maxine was waiting for him outside by herself. They vixen was just as pretty as ever, her rust colored fur glossy even in the waning sunlight. Her fashion sense hadn't changed either. Under her baggy, black sweatshirt, she wore a tight, pink halter top. 'Tough on the outside and girly on the inside,' Killer thought fondly.

When he got they hugged the way they usually do before Max started on her rant to fill Killer in on the "changes" in store for the rabbit.

"I promise he won't hit on you; he's too shy. He's probably staight too. He's only a year or so older than you so that's not a problem. He's definitely not afraid of heights so the penthouse is perfec-"

"PENTHOUSE?!?!" Killer balked, " Are. You. Kidding?!?! I can't afford a penthouse!!!"

"Well not by yourself-"

"Not with you, my brother, or the rest of our home town!!"

"Calm down, Killer!" Max waved his worries away like ciggarette smoke, "He'll wave your rent if you pay for like cable and internet and stuff."

Now Killer was really suspicious. "Did you get me one of those sugar-daddy-things?!" He demanded in a hoarse whisper.

"No! Yhanks for the idea though! If things don't work out here, give me a call."

"You would be the LAST to know!"

"Look. Before you really start freaking out, go see the place, ok?"

Killer had been here before and freaked out at how nice this place was. He thought he was lucky for getting his paws on the smallest room they had which still destroyed his bank account. As they stepped into the elevator and Max pushed the "P" button, Killer thought he might have some kind of attack. With every passing floor he felt worse and worse. When he heard the "ping" that said they were at his new home he squeezed his eyes shut. He listened to the door open and caught an odd scent. As soon as he breathed it he felt himself relax, and so, breathed in deeply and repeatedly before opening his eyes. When he did, his jaw dropped as he stared into a living room that could have swallowed his old one three times over at least. While large and extravegant the room was humbly furnished with a mismatched chair, sofa and love seat surrounding a normal sized tv.

"It even better inside!" Max said after Killer hadn't moved for a minute or two. She pushed on the small of his back forcing him to stumble out of the elevator.

Killer looked around and immediately noticed that the rest of the aprtment matched the living room: Huge. Classy. Down right fabulous. but horribly under furnished.

The second thing was that the appartment was tall enough to put another floor on. Where that floor would have been there was instead a webbing of rafters about twelve feet from where he was standing With patches of what looked like make-shift floor. The roof was a giant skylight on all but one side but the sunlight was kept at bay by the variety of plants that cluttered on and dangled from the rafters. It was this garden that was giving off the soothing scent from earlier.

Try as he might, Killer couldnt find a ladder or stairs to reach the rafters.

"S-so..." Killer said, "Where's my roommate?"

"Hiding out. Up there," Max said.

"How!?"

"Kaard! Come meet my friend!"

"I-I'm a little busy here." a voice squeaked.

"No, you're scared." Max giggled the way she does when she thinks something's cute. "Come on! He won't bite.

A sigh. "Awrite, gimme a minute..."

There was a strange breeze that made the perfumed air react like stew being stirred from the bottom and bringing unnoticed scents to Killers nose, making him giddy. A shadow passed over them as Kaard landed in front of them.

Killer saw that the bat had fur that was bleached a fiery color but skin as black as coal. When he was landing Killer estimated his wingspan to be no less than eight feet extending from each wrist. Kaarrd's face was mouse-like except for his nose. He had big dark red eyes.

Killer's initial thought was that this was just a kid. Max did say that Kaard was older than Killer but this bat couldn't be more than seventeen tops!

"Uh, hi" Killer offered a handshake, "Um, you're not my roommate are you? The one who's letting me stay here for, like, nothing?"

Kaard took his paw and gave it a firm shake. "Th-that's right."

This had to be some kind of prank. "How old are you?"

"Twenty-one," the bat said with a smile that exposed a pair of pointed front teeth.

Killer blushed. 'Egads,' he thought, 'Xix was right; buck teeth can be cute on some furs..."
