Hm, been wanting to write something for a while, but I just don't have much time on my hands and I have a bunch of other hobbies to keep up with whilst procrastinating. Not sure how often uploads will be or if I even manage to finish this story. Just something I began on a whim.

Prologue

The year is 3152 and the world is currently at war. The war started 2 years ago, in the year 3150, while I was at the age of 16 and it is the second war I have experienced in my life time. Though, I was too young to remember the first time. You see, every ten years we students who study at universities or college are required to partake in these wars. The higher ups thought it would be a better way of paying for the school fees. Oh, but it's not your normal world war or anything though... or, well, I suppose it depends.

A few hundred years ago, a virus spread throughout the world, killing millions and threatening to bring the human race to extinction. Scientists at the time noticed that the virus only seemed to target humans so, as a result, they began testing and found that merging human DNA with animal DNA successfully prevented the virus from infecting. The vaccine was quickly distributed and humans survived yet another apocalypse. Apparently, there was this Mayan apocalypse that they survived as well. Man, those people were tough back then.

Err, anyway, where was I? Right. Human kind was saved and people lived happily ever after. Sort of. The people who were infected with the virus slowly lost their sanity and... I'll just cut to the chase. The infected became crazy and started killing everyone around them. It seems that the virus also had the side effect of making the infected much stronger, so they essentially became insane killing machines. Eh, I don't really know how to describe it. I've always been terrible at history.

But if you thought that was interesting, wait till you hear this. A few decades down the line, the animal DNA that was merged with the human DNA began to show when the first baby with the ears and tail of a wolf was born. It ended up causing a bit of a civil war when news got out and things got out of control, with some religious groups calling the baby the spawn of the devil, other religious groups defending the baby, human rights campaigns fighting for and against, animal rights campaigns fighting for and against, et cetera. Eventually, it began to settle down once a few more babies popped out with animal features.

Oh, remember those crazy killing machines I was talking about earlier? The people infected with the virus? Yeah, well, while all that was happening 50% of the world had been lost to them. And that wasn't all that was going to be lost. Through the course of a few hundred years, the continents began to shift and they gradually grew closer. As the distance between each continent decreased, it became increasingly easy for the infected to move about and begin their conquest.

Currently, in the year 3152, 80% of the world has been lost to them. It used to be much worse, but we began to fight back and, slowly but surely, some of the lost land was regained. When I say we, I mean beast-men. We've fully evolved through the centuries and are now basically anthropomorphic animals, beast-men for short.

Ah, how rude of me, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Ryker, Ry for short. I'm 18, a tiger, single, and gay. Although, maybe you didn't need to know the last two.

Well, I better get going, or I'll be late for school. Today is going to be a great day!
