#2 of Doberman Afloat

Well I know it took a little longer than promised but Chapter 2 is finally here.

In this chapter our Commander has to go into action, however, he has been on board the Alabama for just a few hours, how will he handle his first real assignment?

As always, I love reading comments and so please feel free to comment, vote and hopefully favourite.

Doberman Afloat 2.

By Wolfie Steel.

Yawns, Damn it, called to the bridge at 0300 hours, must be something big going on. I put on my clean uniform and head up towards the bridge; again, as I enter the bridge the Chief of the watch announces my arrival.

"ExO on the bridge"

My sexy Rottweiler is not at his station; Helmsman Tobias Altora has taken his place, a seasoned looking Lion who has I have no doubt been around the globe many times in his years of service.

The Chief of the watch approaches me.

"Commander, our radar has picked up an unidentified vessel just ahead of us, I have called for all stop as a precaution, and we have made numerous attempts to contact the vessel, all attempts have failed so far"

I park my butt in the Captain's chair and I consider our options.

"Helm, take us in closer at dead slow, I don't want to spook our unidentified guest. Chief I'm going out on deck to see if I can get a better look at the situation"

The Chief, a good-looking Horse, makes his reply.

"Aye Sir"

I head towards the exit of the bridge grabbing a thick fur lined jacket and a radio as I go, moments later I am standing at the bow of the ship with my infrared binoculars raised to my eyes.

I scan the expanse of sea before me and for many minutes, I see nothing. The moon is out though and as the Alabama creeps closer to the unknown vessel; my binoculars finally pick up what looks to be a life raft. I raise my radio to my muzzle.

"Chief, call the Captain, it seems that the vessel is a life raft and may have someone injured on board, and bring us to a dead stop until the Captain has made his appraisal of the situation"

Once again, the Chief acknowledges my order. Moments later Captain Sears is standing next to me.

"What have we got Commander?"

I hand the binoculars to the Captain as I make my reply.

"Sorry to wake you Captain, but it seems that there is some sort of life raft about 150 meters ahead of us, we have made attempts to contact the raft all of which have failed, but I still fear that there may be someone aboard who needs our help"

The Captain scans the area for himself and instantly he locks onto the life raft.

"Bring us alongside and have a small boarding party check the raft for any occupants, also have medical on standby just in case, and make sure that the boarding party are carrying their small arms because this could just be a setup"

I head back to the bridge where the Chief is about to announce me again until I silence him.

"Chief, forget the pleasantries for now, the Captain wants us to slowly make alongside of the life raft and for us to have a lightly armed boarding party to be ready to check the raft out. Also I want sick bay put on alert just in case there are any casualties"

A few moments later the Alabama has pulled alongside the life raft, I head down to join the boarding party so that I can see for myself what is waiting for us onboard.

I join the boarding party having furnished myself with my own pistol, well after all one can never be too careful in these situations. In the small life raft there are two human males; one of them is a small child whom I would say is no more than about nine years of age, the other is an adult who by my reckoning is late forties to early fifties in age, they both appear to be suffering with dehydration and hunger, but thankfully that appears to be the only thing wrong with them.

"Okay guys get them down to the medical bay and fast, I will go and inform Captain Sears that we can get back underway and I will also try and contact the mainland to alert them to our discovery"

The boarding party quickly whisks the two humans off to the medical bay as I make my way back to the bridge, on my journey I meet up with a yawning Captain Sears.

"Ah Captain, we have picked up two humans from the life raft, they have both been taken to the medical bay and I'm just heading to the bridge to radio the mainland about what we have found"

The Bull Terrier just tiredly nods his head and continues on into his cabin. I arrive back on the bridge and I make the call about the two humans, it turns out that the adult male had seen the ten year old boy being swept out to sea and had used the old life raft to try and rescue him.

I yawn a little as I turn to the Chief of the watch.

"Chief, I'm going to try and get a little bit more sleep before my duty starts, you have the con"

The Chief makes his dutiful reply and I head back to my own cabin for what will be just another hour and a half of sleep.

I groan lightly as I lever myself away from my sleeping cot, I hadn't bothered getting changed out of my uniform an hour and a half ago, and so I was already fit for duty. My first port of call is the medical bay to check on our two human guests.

As I step inside the medical bay I am met by the Chief Medical Officer, a Greyhound by the name of Lancet Grint.

"Well Doctor how are our guests doing?"

The Greyhound looks up from his clipboard.

"Morning Commander, well aside from severe dehydration and malnutrition they managed to get away pretty lightly, the child suffered a broken left wrist which I have splinted and strapped and one or two cuts and bruises while the adult suffered a slight bump on the back of the head and again minor cuts and bruises, they have both been wrapped in heat wraps to try and bring their body temperatures back up at a steady rate, I have also started them both on a saline drip to help replace the fluids that they lost"

I nod gently as I make my reply.

"When can I talk to them?"

The Doctor looks over to the other side of the room at the two frail looking human figures.

"If I were you Commander, I would give them at least ten hours rest, with the ordeal that they have just been through it is a miracle that either of them has survived"

I turn to leave the medical bay to head back towards the bridge.

"Thank you Doctor, please keep me posted with regard to their condition"

With that said I begin my journey back to the bridge. Once I arrive back at the bridge I am again announced by the Chief Of The Watch, I look over to the helmsman's seat and I see the object of my affections, oh gods I really can't wait for our first weekend pass, I so want to get into that young Rottweiler's pants.

I distract myself from my growing hard-on by taking command again and changing our course to head towards the nearest port so that we can transfer our tow human guests from our medical bay and to a waiting ambulance.

After two hours I am joined on the bridge by the Captain, I remove myself from his seat and give him the proper salute.

"Captain on the bridge"

I stand to the side of his seat to give him my report.

"Morning Captain, I have been to check upon the status of our guests in sick bay, the doctor has them both on a saline drip to help replace their fluids, he also has wrapped them both in heat wraps, the boy has suffered damage to his left wrist which the doctor has splinted and strapped, the adult has suffered a minor bump to the back of the head and they both have various cuts and bruises, aside from that they are in remarkably good shape. We are currently heading into Pearl Harbour where we will be able to transfer them to dry land, I will however, try and speak to the two humans before they leave us"

The Captain gives a soft groan as well as a small but teasing smile.

"Commander, that is just way too much information for me first thing in the morning, especially after a broken night's sleep, I need at least one cup of strong hot Joe before my brain begins to function properly, joking aside though, I know that you will do what is required"

I respectfully nod towards the Captain and I take up my favourite place, standing behind the sexy Rottweiler.

It is now 18:00 hours and so I am heading back to my cabin, hopefully to get a full nights rest, before I go to my cabin I head to the medical bay to try to speak to our two human guests.

As I enter the medical bay the doctor just gently nods his head to signify that he knows why I am there, he heads over to me and lays a gentle paw on my shoulder.

"Our two guests are awake and I will allow you to talk to them but briefly, they are both still very weak and not up to a full on interrogation"

I nod my head softly and continue on my way towards our two guests. My attention first falls upon the adult.

"Welcome aboard the USS Alabama, I am Commander Tasker and I just needed to check that you are both okay?"

The adult begins to speak in a weak voice.

"My name is Lando Nelson; I would like to thank you for coming to our rescue"

A weak but friendly smile plays across my muzzle.

"You are quite welcome Mr Nelson, besides, what kind of a crew would we be if we let two people die at sea when we could have offered a paw to help? Do you feel up to telling me how you both came to be in this situation?"

Lando looks thoughtful for a moment and then makes his reply.

"Well sir firstly what day is it today?"

I give him the honest answer.

"It is Tuesday 21st January"

The human looks thoughtful again for a moment.

"Damn, in that case we have been on board that life raft for four days, well I was walking along Myrtle Beach when I heard the voice of a young child calling out for help"

Lando's voice begins to sound a little hoarse and so I offer him a drink of water which he gratefully takes, I make sure that he only takes slow and gentle sips, with his thirst quenched for now he continues.

"Well I looked across the beach and at first I saw nothing, the beach was totally deserted, or so I thought, I then looked out at sea and it was then that I saw a small boy's head just above the surface of the water. Well he was obviously in distress and so I decided to try and do something about it"

He takes another sip of water and then continues.

"I found that dinghy just under the pier and begin a rescue attempt; the dinghy had half an oar so it had most likely been discarded, but I decided that it would do to mount a rescue, unfortunately for us though when I got to the point where I was pulling the boy into the boat, the oar fell into the water. The sea was really rough and there would have been no way of me getting the dinghy back to shore by paddling alone"

He begins to shudder again so I wrap him with the heat wrap again.

"To make matters worse my damn phone battery crapped out and so we had no way of contacting anyone and so we were pushed even further out by the waves, the rest as they say is history"

I take in everything that Lando has told me.

"Well Mr Nelson, this young man owes you his life, as for what happens now, we are on route to Pearl Harbour, we should be there in a couple of hours or so, once we dock you will both be transferred to hospital so that you can both continue to recover from your ordeal, for now though I suggest that you get some rest and I will come for you once we make port"

Lando nods his head and slowly lies back on the bed and is soon asleep again. I head back to my cabin knowing that I won't be getting any sleep until we have off loaded our passengers, and so once I arrive back at my cabin I decide to catch up with my diary again.

"Day 2, Today has been another eventful day on board the 'Bama, 3am I'm called to the bridge, 3am I mean damn who invented 3am? A Doberman needs his sleep for the love of god; well we pick up two human males who were stranded in a dinghy. We are now heading to Pearl to drop them off, as for the delicious Alex Cates, I feel sure that he will soon start reading the signs that I am no doubt sending him, will he forcefully castrate me or will he want to suck me dry, oh gods I hope it is the latter"
