#4 of Shadow Nova

/I'm back everyone. Don't worry about that last part, he is NOT dreaming. Nothing pisses me off like a misleading dream sequence, so I will not be doing that./

At noon I get a call from Simon asking if I want to have dinner at his place and meet is mom. I agree with a bit too much excitement in my voice. I scold myself after getting off of the phone with him "Way to play it cool, Derek." Then I begin to do what anyone about to meet their date's parents would do, panic. "I can't go there empty-handed!" I say to myself. I run outside and pick flowers, I tie them together in a ribbon.

I leave for his house at 6:45 with bouquet in hand, feeling as confident as ever, which is to say not at all. I dressed myself in a semi-formal shirt and pants. I wanted to look nice for the occasion, but not uptight. I arrive at his house at 7 exactly. I knock on the door and Simon answers. He greets me and takes the bouquet. He gestures for me to come in and grabs my hand.

He takes me to the dining room and I see his mother. I notice a trace of skepticism in her stare.

"So you're Simon's boyfriend, huh?" She asks.

My heart pounds as I reply, "Yes, ma'am. My name is Derek Clarke." I hold my hand out, but she just ignores it. There's an expression of pain on my face, and I see Simon glare angrily at her.

Simon walks me over to a seat and pulls my chair out. He kisses my cheek and I moan in pleasure from his attempt to cheer me up and piss off his mom. I sit down and avoid her gaze. Simon takes a seat beside me.

"So, what do you do for a living?" She asks spitefully.

"Well, I am an aspiring poet," I hear her scoff judgementally, "but I am currently employed Jamenta, a clothes store at the mall."

"So what do you write about in your poetry?" She says feigning interest.

"I try not to restrict myself by writing about a single topic. Though i think I may have found a new source of inspiration." I look over to Simon and he grabs me, kissing me passionately. I blush fiercely, and assume his mom is peering at me full of rage. But when Simon releases the kiss and I Iook over to her, her expression is softened.

"I guess you two really love each other." She says.

Simon muzzles me, "We do." He then proceeds to make out with me RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER. I consider pulling away, but get lost in the heat of the moment.

"Dinner's ready." Simon's mom says three minutes later.

"So where's Mr. Tannis?" I ask.

"He's fighting in the war." She replies.

"Well I wish him better fortune than that of my father." I say somberly.

/Well that took longer than expected. In order for me to type on this tablet, I have to smash my nails into it. It really hurts to do that. Anyways, I've decided a schedule for this: Mondays and Thursdays. Let me know what you think in the comments and I will see you in the next part./
