Four standard competency ratings are available: Toy , Pet , Student , and Savant
Due to limited demand and extensive quality control, Personal Companions with an Exalt rating are available by special order only, with substantial lead time. __________________________________________________________________
Toy
A "Toy" competency rating indicates that your Plush Companion is controlled by a minimal Positronic Neural Network. With a volume of only 1cc, it is adequate for use in stable environments where preprogrammed responses are appropriate. Some training is possible, but problem solving abilities are very limited.
Pet
A "Pet" competency rating indicates that your Plush Companion is controlled by a Positronic Neural Network with a volume of 30cc. Much more versatile and adaptable than the smaller version, the substantial capacity of this model makes possible Plush Companions which have many of the abilities of living animals. Easily trained, with significant problem solving abilities, they are often compared favorably with Border Collies, the most intelligent domesticated animal.
Student
A "Student" competency rating indicates that your Plush Companion is controlled by a Positronic Neural Network with a volume of 500cc. Comparable to a human in potential ability, a Plush Companion incorporating one of these PNNs can be trusted to perform with imagination and reliability.
Savant
A "Savant" competency rating indicates that your Plush Companion is controlled by a Positronic Neural Network with a volume of 3000cc (.003 cubic meter). Plush Companions incorporating this highly sophisticated control unit are usually found in situations where high speed computation and subtle discrimination are essential. They frequently act as pilots of superluminal spacecraft, for example.
With a diameter of 20 centimeters, a spherical Savant PNNs is normally housed in the torso, unless the Plush Companion is unusually large.
Exalt
Exalt Positronic Neural Networks are available only by special order. With volumes in excess of 10,000cc (30cm diameter), great care must be taken during assembly to ensure uniform structural deposition. These PNNs are extremely effective as assistants in scientific and philosophical research, as well as political and economic planning and long term weather forecasting. __________________________________________________________________
