Ashika swam by the shore. She needed a good swim every once in a while. Too much dry land didn't exactly do wonders for her skin. Rough as it was itching, and it loosing it's luster was just a waste of good hide.

She dove deeply down into the see watching swarms of fish escape in some shared memory of her people's more bestial past. Finally she looked over some derby abandoned by careless landlovers on their short voyages from the beach. She loosened up a bag from her swimsuit, and got to picking. A rather redundant exercise there was always more, but she couldn't help, but tidy up at least in the small spots she called her underwater pad. Satisfied the worst was gone, she settled onto a rock, and watched the small slivers of light pierce the surface above. She wasn't cold, more comforted by the oceans pressure, and more languid way of doing things. In the warmth everything happened in a flash there was never a moment to rest up. Sharks didn't sleep after all, but they enjoyed some privacy, and relaxation every once in a while. Besides the surface didn't agree with them, they didn't really have the bones to contend with the gravity above, so of course issues happened, but modern life was on the surface. She watched a boat above trailing bait laden fishing lures dart across the surface like a spaceship. The rumble arrived later, it almost shook her a bit. It was annoying, she felt every vibration in the water, she could even feel the odd fish swimming by employ it's little brain as a tingle in her nose. Home. Here she rested for a while, was driven to, and fro by a current, and felt as if being rocked by some mother older than even her ancestors. Then she felt like air again, and swam to the shore refreshed, rushing to the shore on her belly enjoying the tickle of the sand. Some little doe almost peed herself hiding behind her brother. "Hi.", said Ashika never really certain in social circumstances. "Go away...", said her brother with protectiveness that waned as Ashika rose to her full height imposing to the kids, and other small mammals. "You are scared right?", asked Ashika she never got that. She liked fish not deer, and they should know that. The schools were to blame obviously. "Yeah? Shark lady look at your teeth!", said the kid still using her brother as a body shield. "I can't really. Do you have mirror?", asked Ashika. "Well... What do you want?", asked the the male kid suspiciously. "I like walking on the beach do you?", asked Ashika friendly as ever. "It sucks really I want to play xbox, but my doe says that we are going to the beach, and I can't even swim, so I can't go in the water, so it all sucks!", explained the small deer helpfully. "You should read more.", said her brother demandingly. "Well I'm Ashika do you want to see something cool?", asked Ashika then remembering something from her childhood. "Hi Ashy I'm Stacy, and he's Aaron, and is that thing like scary? I don't- I get startled.", said Stacy honestly sniffing for predators in anxiety. "No not really.", said Ashika going over to a rock, getting ready for her gristle to suffer for it, then again unlike bones her gristle grew back, so she wasn't concerned. She lifted it easily, but it still was uncomfortable to feel herself, organs included be bent by the weight. A small crab hurried from it's hiding place waving it's claws at them as, if it was silently cussing at the disturbance. "Ew! A rock monster! These things are at the beach? I hate the beach!", complained Stacy. "It's not a rock monster it's a crab. Crabs live under rocks, that's interesting.", said Aaron stalking the creature picking up a stick to mess with it. "Crabs are red!", claimed Stacy. "Who told you that?", asked Ashika genuinely wondering who was making claims like that. "Well mister Crabs in Spongebob, he is red right?", asked Stacy wondering. "Well that's a cartoon you know, crabs come in all sorts of colors. There are some lakes with crayfish that are, but I don't think there are many crabs.", said Ashika helpfully. "Well whatever it's still gross. You are nice for trying, but that's just weird.", said Stacy giving her a hug, and running off to her doe. Ashika felt happy, and refreshed, and watched Mike try to pick a fight with the crab that just defensively postured, and eventually made him run off, by almost flying into his face while he picked it up with the stick it had grabbed onto. It sort of hurt to see him be so rough with the animal, but at least the crab had defended itself, and ran to hide under the nearest rock free from the terror of children. She went into the sea again, happy that she could make friends, but then again the sea was her home, just as the city was.

Besides she still had to take out the trash.

And for a while that was good...
