Little character development.

Plans did have to change much to Chris's dismay. Though they were rescheduled for another date. Chris took the bus from the studio over to Joe's apartment. He lived in a complex of small duplexes. He found Joe's duplex easily, since his truck was parked out front. Chris wondered how crowded the garage was if Joe parked outside.

Chris rang the door bell and heard Joe yell "be right there." After a minute the door opened. "Hello."

"Sorry, you got here just as I was getting something out of the oven. Come in." Jo said with a smile and held the door open wide. She was excited because she was a really good cook and Christina always looked so cute.

The first thing Chris noticed was the smell of bread. The second being how clean the duplex was. He did get the feeling that Joe had done a bit of cleaning up since everything looked in order. There was not a lot of furniture, but it all matched. A couple of old spy movie posters hung on a wall, along with the flyer for one of Chris's dance performances.

The coffee table had books that were obviously role playing related on it along with an assortment of dice. A couple of magazines sat neatly on one end, the top being work related it looked like. Of course there was a fair sized TV and a game system, and "You own actual vinyl records?"

"Yeah, some my grandparents had. They are not all that uncommon." Jo said and hung up Chris's coat. "I need to go out back and check on the main course, have a look around. The bathroom is down the hall and on the left if you need it."

Chris walked over to examine the records. Most he was unfamiliar with, though a couple did stand out. The one bookcase held an odd mix of role playing codex, technical manuals, comics, science fiction and fantasy novels. At least Chris knew Joe read a wide variety of things, the games for the console were pretty standard, drive fast cars or blow things up. Thankfully no horror books or movies. The movies ranged from modern to classic, classics more than a hundred years old on a few of the titles.

After looking over the movies and books, Chris walked over to the kitchen. Where he found a loaf of homemade bread cooling on a rack. A quick peek in a few drawers reveled, expensive silverware and kitchen gadgets. Also everything was well organized and tidy. A couple small ears of corn simmered in hot water. Chris watched Joe through the kitchen window, the Jackalope was out by a grill and from the looks of it was getting ready to come in.

Chris opened the door for Joe as he came up with a plate of ribs. "This is a nice place. Do you need any help?"

"Thanks, but everything is ready." Jo said and set the plate of ribs on the table. She turned to the fridge and pulled out a bowl of salad and a couple dressings.

Chris was surprised by how quickly everything got on the table. "You really went all out."

Jo smiled. "I don't get much company, so it's nice to cook for someone besides myself."

"That I do understand, it is hard to cook just for one person." Chris said as he dished up a little of everything. "What kind of bread is this?"

"Just a white bread, kind of like French." Jo said. Pleased with how well everything turned out.

Looks alone did the meal little justice, the bread was heavenly and the meat effortlessly fell off the bone. Chris pointed at the ribs with his fork. "These are fantastic."

Jo's smile grew. "Glad you like them. Though I cheated on dessert."

"Oh?" Chris asked and had to have seconds.

"Didn't really have time to bake the bread and a dessert, so I picked something up." Jo said and also got seconds. Christina had mentioned that she liked a good chocolate cheese cake. So there was one sitting in the fridge, from Kim's bakery.

"With cooking like this, I am surprised you are single." Chris said and smiled a bit when Joe blushed.

Jo sighed. "A lot of people have a hard time with my work hours, or the fact that it is not exactly the safest line of work."

"You do work long days. I didn't know it wasn't safe." Chris said and decided he should stop eating or else Joe might think he was a pig.

"My last job was more dangerous than this one, damn near died once. Used to be a certified scuba diver, and now I can't even get in the water." Jo said and her ears lay limp. Her friend Stacy had saved her and now they lived in the same city once again. Work schedules kept them from meeting to catch up.

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened?" Chris asked. It was a bit in morbid curiosity, because he had never been in danger and was rather sheltered all of his life.

"A lifting strap broke while we were positioning a pipe in about forty feet of water. I caught a corner of a bracket in the gut and got cut open pretty bad. Nearly was pinned under, but a good friend was right there and got me to safety." Jo said.

"Wow, that sounds really scary. Not much excitement in my life like that." Chris said.

"That is alright, guess I am still a bit of an adrenaline junky since I walk across beams several hundred feet in the air. That's why I had to change our dinner date, it was too windy a couple of days to work, so we had to work extra to get back on schedule." Jo said and got up to clear away dinner.

"Couldn't do that, I am scared of heights." Chris said and laughed.

"But stage fright is no problem." Jo said as she put their plates in the sink.

"Nothing but a little nervousness waiting for the curtain to rise. It is pretty easy after that." Chris said and lost control of his tail when Joe bent down to get something out of the fridge. Now that was a sexy ass, and when Joe stood up he held a chocolate delight in one hand.

"Can I interest you in some chocolate cheese cake?" Jo asked with a sly smile. She had gotten a tail wag out of the little ballerina, that was a good sign. And the wolf was a little embarrassed about it, that was so cute she could just eat the girl up. At this point she was not interested in one night stands or just hooking up, Jo wanted someone special to spend time with. So getting in Christina's pants would have to wait for another date or two.

"Now that is a little devious, picking up a girl's favorite dessert from her favorite baker." Chris teased and with some effort stopped his tail from wagging like a puppy.

Jo smiled and cut into it. "Figured it might make up for having to reschedule our date.

Chris smiled. "It is really okay, I do understand... though I will happily allow you to bribe me with sweet treats."

Jo cut a couple slices and dished them up. "I am just glad you told me you liked this, as it happens to be one of mine."

"So we have a shared love of cheesecake and music. That is a lot better than my last relationship." Chris said before taking a bite. The bakery always made heavenly cheesecake.

Jo smiled. "I am just glad you haven't given up after having to change plans so often."

Chris shrugged. "It is understandable, my father's work was constantly changing. I think I only had a birthday party on my birth day a couple times."

"So how is it?" Jo asked, she thought it was wonderful. "What does your dad do, if you don't mind me asking."

"It's delicious, the entire meal was wonderful. Dad used to be a cop, he is retired now." Chris said with a bit of pride. Since Joe was blue collar, he figured the Jackalope would not get offended like the people he tended to spend a great deal of time with did.

"I am glad you liked it. A cop, I bet that made sneaking out of the house impossible." Jo said and laughed a little.

"Yeah there were days it made school a little harder than it should have been. What does your dad do?" Chris asked and felt a little disheartened that he was not going to finish his piece of cheesecake.

"Pops is the lead foreman of the job we a currently on. He should be retired, but I think he would be bored if he wasn't working." Jo said and finished of her piece and eyed Christina's unfinished piece. She shifted her gaze up from the table though, she did not need another bite of anything.

"That must be interesting to work with family." Chris said and set his fork down. He was stuffed, Joe was an awesome cook and a pretty good host.

"Some days it is better than others. I have to work extra hard so people don't think I can get away with slacken off. Plus dad tends to be a bit of a hard ass to me, so the others don't think I get special treatment." Jo decided not to reach for the part of the cake Christina had not eaten. Stealing food might be acceptable after a month or two, not a date or two.

Chris gave it a little thought. "I guess that does make it a little harder. What does your mom do?"

"She passed away when I was little, and dad never remarried." Jo said.

Chris immediately blushed. "I'm sorry to hear that."

"What does your mom do, or is she retired as well?" Jo asked changing the topic so Chris wouldn't feel uncomfortable.

"She teaches sixth grade. She just loves it too much to retire." Chris said and was not sure if he should get up to help clear the table or not. The moment he decided to get up Joe stopped him.

"Its fine, I'll get it." Jo said with a smile and took their plates to the sink. "A noble career, teaching others."

"She brought her class to one of my performances one time. I think that was the most nervous I have ever been." Chris said as he watched Joe clean up. He rinsed everything rather clean before putting it in the dishwasher. Maybe Joe was just a neat freak, he tended to forget dishes in the sink. Ronda always chastised him for it when she came over. It was a boys habit, not a ladies.

"Funny how kids do that to us sometimes. Do you want half of this cheesecake? I really don't want it to go bad before I eat it all." Jo said after quickly getting things cleaned up.

"Sure, it would be a shame if it didn't get eaten." Chris said.

"Speaking of eating, I know we have done food dates twice now. But a good friend of mine and her fiancée wanted to know if you would be up for a double date. Catch lunch next Saturday down town at a fancy sandwich place." Jo carefully put half of the cheesecake back in its box as she spoke.

"That sounds fun, I haven't gotten out much." Chris said. Maybe Ronda would help him eat the half of the cheese cake, he really didn't want to eat it all by himself.

Jo glanced at the clock hanging on the wall. "I hate to say it, but I should probably give you a ride home so I can get ready for bed."

It was nearly eight o clock, Chris was surprised how quick the evening had passed. "I didn't realize it was that late already. You don't need to give me a ride, the buses are still running."

"Nonsense, I can't have you take the bus home. That would be ungentlemanly." Jo said with a sly smile.

It was a bit of a drive from the duplex to Christina's apartment. Though it was faster than taking the bus would have been. They talked the entire way to the apartment, Chris learned that Joe was an only child. And that Joe had already pre ordered a ticket for his next performance along with making sure to have the following day off. This time Chris gave Joe a kiss on the cheek and thanked him again for dinner.

Jo locked the door behind her after getting back home. The house still smelled like dinner, which was pleasant. Heading back to the bathroom she undressed, and let out a sigh after removing a vest designed to hide her breasts. She had an attractive figure for a woman, but hid it mainly for work. Cross dressing was mainly done to make life easier in her preferred line of work. Really the only fault Jo had in her appearance was the scar she had gotten at work.

She was really lucky Stacy was her dive partner that day. The little lion was a quick thinker and small enough to get to her in the first place. Jo was looking forward to seeing Stacy again, and even happier that Christina didn't mind meeting her friend. While getting ready for bed and looking forward to a day off, Jo realized Christina was the first person she had dated that was not in a manual labor field of work.

Jo had a few white collar friends, but Christina was the first arts only person she had much interaction with. Not that the ballerina was fragile or different, she just had a different outlook on life and other people. Christina was also rather sheltered and Jo actually wondered if the girl had really done any living.

Besides the general curiosity Jo had about Christina, she was also curious as to what it would feel like to hold the tiny ballerina in her arms. To run her fingers through the little wolf's hair and fur. Jo was enamored by Christina's appearance and personality. Her father had noticed a little more pep in her step the other day, and was surprised his rod burning, beam walking daughter had fallen in love with a ballerina. Most of Jo's past relationships were equally hard working, long hours kind of women, or men. Because Jo did date a few guys, though never for very long.

Jo mainly dated guys because that was the normal thing to do, it never felt right. Her last male partner had similar interests and even gamed. But when it came to sex, it was just a big letdown. It wasn't painful or miserable, just never enjoyable. The motions of the physical act were there, the pleasure was not. Her first time with another girl, was vastly different. Not only was there love in the physical act, but so was the pleasure and an orgasm.

Almost across town, Chris was having similar thoughts. He really liked Joe, the welder was easy to relax and be himself around. Plus an outstanding cook, he hadn't eaten that good in a while. His own cooking was bland and not very imaginative, at least he never made himself sick. And after looking around his apartment, Joe was also cleaner. He would have to do a solid day of cleaning before inviting Joe in for anything.

Chris was a bit spoiled with family, having siblings and both parents around his whole life. Though after he came out and started cross dressing, they were not immediately supportive. They didn't kick him out and disown him, but it took a few months before his parents accepted him for who he was.

He was never interested in sports or boy activities. Chris liked more feminine things, like playing house or dance. He never dated a girl or kissed one even on a dare. The female form didn't really do anything for him, sure they were pretty and graceful. Chris was, as long as he could remember, attracted to guys. Which made his infatuation with Joe a little odd, since Joe was not as masculine as the guys Chris normally liked.

The Jackalope had a masculine job and likes, but looked a bit boyish. Joe was handsome, well dressed and treated people well. Chris thought it was Joe's intellect that had really gotten him interested in the welder. Joe could talk about nearly any topic, and knew a lot of trivia. Joe was also outgoing and had done lots of interesting things along with travel. Chris was looking forward to meeting Joe's friend, and getting out of his apartment for something other than work or just sitting at the club.
