The Family He Never Had Part 10
Questions are raised about Kenji's strange powers after everyone had seen him fight Tublat, feeling afraid to face anyone, Kala decides to console Kenji and help him open up about what powers he's got.
The other gorillas of Tarzan's heard were all confused and lots of questions popped into their heads about what they saw. Tarzan, Jane, Professor Archimedes, Kala, Terk and Tantor were looking for Kenji after he took off.
"Kenji." called Tarzan.
They all took off in different directions to look for him, he wasn't found at Tarzan's treehouse which worried them. Kala took off in the direction where the river was to look for Kenji. She was growing worried.
"Kenji." called out Kala.
Kala heard a strange voice speaking coming from nearby and she followed it to the source, it got louder the closer she got to it and she reached the lake the a waterfall or two flowed down to. There she found Kenji, the young human teenager was looking like he was holding a necklace with a gold cross and he looked like he was praying in Japanese. Kala walked over to him.
"Kenji, what happened?" asked Kala.
Kenji had stopped with his prayer once she spoke and he placed the necklace around his neck, he just stood there with his head hanging down, his long hair hung down with his head. He was silent. Kala stood next to him.
"Kenji." said Kala again.
"Go away." said Kenji silently, his voice now normal.
"Kenji, if something is bothering you, than talk to me about it." said Kala kindly.
Kenji sat down on the ground with his head still hanging down, he didn't want to look at anyone out of shame and fear of being negatively judged. The large female gorilla placed a big paw on his left shoulder to comfort him.
"Come into my arms and let it out." said Kala softly.
Kenji got up and sat next to Kala as the large female gorilla wrapped her big and strong arms around him in a hug, she planted a kiss to his forehead and Kenji shed a single tear. Kenji wanted to cry but he held it back.
"What has everyone said about me? I know they saw the side of me I didn't want them to see." said Kenji with a sigh.
"They kind of don't know what to say, although I've heard a few of them say that you looked like you went as they call it going full hulk." said Kala but she blushed and realized what she just said. "That probably didn't help, didn't it?"
Kenji let out another sigh but this one was a bit heavier. He didn't want to cry his eyes out, was it him trying to be strong or something else was what Kala wondered.
"I didn't want this on me. It was only an accident." said Kenji.
"What was an accident?" asked Kala curiously.
Kenji looked up at Kala but than just kept his view on her chest, he felt like he couldn't face anyone or look them in the eye for some reason. He knew there was some explaining to do but he didn't plan on it being so soon to tell.
"Back in human civilization, when I was seven, I was taken to a place to learn how some of our doctors develop medicines, inventions, all sorts of projects. Even though I was a very intelligent boy at that age, I was taken their to learn a thing or two about what they do. I went in this room where a scientist showed me how they do chemical reactions, he had me wear goggles, gloves and had me change into some other clothes just so I don't get dirty." explained Kenji as he went on. "But when the scientist and I were doing a chemical mixture that was suppose to show how they can clean dirty water, someone came in the room and startled the doctor which some test tubes got knocked over and some chemicals got mixed together, than the next thing that was going on was one of the doctors was freaking out as he frantically tried to put on a gas mask as the chemicals started to make something bubble up, it grew bigger and bigger and the other man was trying to turn on the fire fighting sprinklers that was on the ceiling of the room but he couldn't find the controls for it. The bubbles of chemicals got so big that what I did was either very brave or very stupid. I got in front of the doctors and used myself as a shield on them and the chemicals exploded on me."
Kala was able to understand what Kenji told her but she was so worried about what happened to him.
"So what happened after that?" asked Kala.
"I blacked out and woke up in the hospital a few days later. One of the scientist came to me to see if I was okay, I was doing better than ever. Of course I told him that I wasn't going to have anyone under any charges, it was only an accident and was no one's fault. He was relieved to hear that, although, one of the scientist wasn't going back to the lab for quite some time." said Kenji as he explained more. "But one day, I discovered this power I have, it was as if it mutated me or something. I never told anyone about this, I kept it to myself this whole time, I eventually learned to control it at will."
Kala was surprised to hear this, she had never knew a human could mutate but she seemed to understand what she was told to her. She gently lifted Kenji's head to face him face to face. She could see a look of sadness on the boy's face.
"Your worried that if anyone found out, your afraid they'll think your a freak?" asked Kala with a look of compassion.
Kenji nodded once and he knew that she guessed the truth. Kala placed her paw on his chest and felt his heart beating, she looked at him with a look of compassion.
"Your not a freak, your just different from humans, unique. Tarzan felt different from all of us once years ago when he was a child, many of the gorillas saw him as a freak or a threat once, but he proved to everyone that he's one of us and now he's the leader of our heard." explained Kala. "Your strange powers could come in handy one day."
"I hope so because I want people to accept me as I am, as if I'm like everyone else. I was never good with people just because I was smarter than mostly everyone." said Kenji starting to feel like Kala's words were healing him.
Kala knew that comfort was what Kenji needs, she leaned in and planted her large, wide, soft and broad sized lips to Kenji's lips in a loving kiss. This made Kenji blush but he felt better for some odd reason, after the kiss, Kala pulled her lips off his and pulled him in for a closer hug, rubbing his head.
"Some people might not understand that people who are different are special, people who seem different are often the ones who do great things, one day it could happen with you." said Kala as she was comforting him.
"Maybe your right, although, if anyone asks about this, we'll have to break it to them slowly, I've noticed not all people here in this jungle will understand if we don't tell it to them in words they'll understand." said Kenji as he knew everyone else will be curious to know.
"You have my word on that and if anyone mistreats you or picks on you, than me or Tarzan can do something about who ever does that to you. I won't tolerate anyone who bullies people." said Kala as she was nuzzling her head on Kenji's head.
Kenji felt better to hear that and just as the two were cuddling each other, that was when Tarzan, Jane, Professor Archimedes, Terk and Tantor arrived and found Kenji with Kala. They all felt relieved to see Kenji was with Kala. Kala knew they were there.
"How's Kenji?' asked Tarzan.
"He seems to be cheering up but he's still a bit emotionally vulnerable so be nice to him, he really needs us to understand what happened wasn't his fault." said Kala to them.
They understood what Kala told them was serious and Kala knew that what Kenji told her will have to be explained to them but she knew that Kenji will feel better in telling them if she's there by his side for support. Although, to Kenji, he was now feeling emotionally vulnerable and needed time to heal, question was, if anyone else he hasn't meet in the jungle finds out, will they accept him for who he is or will they label him a freakish threat. Little did they know was there was a male shady mandrill nearby who was watching Kenji from a distance with an evil smile.
