Another day

Story by Natake on SoFurry

My first story that I have created. I plan on making more in the future and criticism is welcome

The morning light shined through the windows of the grand manor. The bright sun shining on the building, the outside of the house made it look huge, the brown wooden exterior looking just as new as it was when it was first created. The first room of the home was a grand entrance hall, a window above the doorway lighting up the room, a chandelier hanging above to give the decor, a large grandfather clock that read the time of six o'clock upon its face and handles, and a framed painting of the owners of the house, Natake and Alina Cillc, siblings that shared a home. From there to the right from the door was a dining room, a large table with enough room for twelve people, linked to that room was the kitchen, stove and other needed machines there, fridge microwave all ready to be used when the master of the house arrived. To the left of the grand entrance door was a nice sitting room, fire place with two couches in front of it, along the walls was art of the siblings as well as other bits of scenery art scattered. Along one wall there was a door that led to the basement of the house, where the mephits had gear for any Hunters that showed up as well as some other things, and another door that lead to the house's library, filled to the brim with books. Back to the grand hall there was a staircase that leads to both sides. Upstairs were the bathrooms and bedrooms, twelve bedrooms in all, two belonging to the siblings within the house. The sister's door had a pink sign on the front of it saying "Alina" while the brother's a black one saying "Natake" two bathrooms on two different sides of the hall were for cleaning up and or bathroom use. Now within the Brother's room, laid the brother known as Natake, currently asleep within his simple queen sized mattress, covered in simple black sheets. The rest of his room was pretty bare save for the desk with a chair, his lute sitting atop the desk, and a dresser for his clothing.

The mephit woke that morning with a loud yawn, sitting up as his arms stretched outwards from himself. Today he was to set out for his traveling to Icatha, the secret Demon Hunter City. He dragged himself out of bed; the mephit had a toned build, standing at six feet and two inches as he got himself up. His fur was mostly a dark ebony black, white a patch of white on his chest, going from a hand's size from his neck all the way down to his crotch. His back had two stripes going down his back, next to each other with a small black gap between them, the trail continuing to his large bushy tail, the thing almost as big as himself when it stood straight up. He was currently wearing a pair of underwear, his attire not on just yet. His legs carry him across the room to his dresser and getting a black T-shirt and some deer skin pants that he throws on before leaving his room. He looks down the hall in both directions "Haven't have a visitor in a while" he said to himself in a voice that didn't quite match his body, it was a bit soft, gentle even. He pads down the hall to the staircase, walking down it slowly. He puts his hands in his pockets when he reaches the bottom, yawning quite audibly and starting his way toward the kitchen, the only sound in the house were his bear paws hitting against the wooden floor. Once he gets to the kitchen he b-lines it straight for the fridge, opening it up and getting a jug of orange juice, putting it down on the counter and getting a cup, happily having his morning drink before throwing the jug back in the fridge and grabbing an apple.

He leaves his kitchen, munching on the apple "I see my sister is still gone, wonder how she is holding up in her travels" he thinks out loud, continuing with his morning routine. His legs carry him toward the sitting room, taking a seat on one of the couches to relax as he eats his apple, munching on it from the top down, a neat trick to make there be no core. His body is stretched out as he relaxes; lying down upon his back, tail swaying to and fro as he munches on his small breakfast. Soon though the taste of the apple was gone, to his stomach. Swinging his legs around he gets up and makes his way to the basement door, opening it up with his tail and descending the stairs, the basement was spacious two tables set up with glowing swords and other weapons on them, more weapons and armor sit along the wall. He walks past all the tables and gear and opens up a door on the other side, within this room was the most interesting thing in the house, a large stone circle sat there covered in markings all the way around, held up by more stones, in the middle of the circle was water, water just sitting there breaking all logic, it sat still, not flowing downward as logic would dictate. It was a Water Portal, created by the mephit himself using magic, the whole design of it involved enchanted water and connections to the mind, a long process to explain and create. He walks up to it and nods to himself "Still in good condition" he had been keeping an eye on it ever since the color of the water changed temporarily, making sure it worked just like it had before. The Hunter turned around from the portal and went back upstairs, making his way even further through the sitting room and grand hall, ascending the staircase there and traveling down the hall to his room, heading inside. He walks over to his desk and opens the one drawer, grabbing the leather straps that sat there, the two blades still within their sheaths. He starts with the leather straps that go over his shoulders, throwing them on like a backpack, then going ahead and throwing on his straps of the belt to hold more stuff. Reaching into the desk once again he grabs a single leather glove, with a white marking along the top, the marking looking like almost like a swirling vortex, a negation rune, the shape meant to represent pulling the dark energy from whatever he would hold to the center of it, keeping it from spreading to his body. His own gear now equipped to his person he leaves the room, shutting the door behind him with the large double colored tail.

He makes his way back downstairs and wanders between rooms, making sure everything was in order, fixing a painting here, adjusting chairs in the dining room, grabbing a second apple from the fridge, normal household things, though when he feels like everything is in good order he goes back to the grand hall, cracking his back and neck before walking over to the double doors, opening them up to the bright light of the sun overhead, he takes the steps necessary to get outside his home and closes the door. He takes a deep breath of fresh air as a smile creeps along his muzzle, walking forward off the porch of the home, onto hard dirt of the world, he turns around to take one look at his home from the outside "I'll be back, don't miss me too much" he said to the manor itself, turning around and starting to walk down the dirt path continuing on till he is surrounded by wilderness and trees, random animals all around, squirrels, bunnies, birds, and more. The mephit was happy to be outside, he loved nature, going for walks was a favorite activity, but he had a job to do, in the next town over from his own home of WinterVale there was a Demon problem he needed to take care of before heading out to Icatha for a meeting with the higher ups. His steps carry him for the next hour, each step bringing him closer to his hometown of WinterVale, it was a decently sized town, a large marketplace though that he frequented for his foods as well as other things, he loved his town.

Soon the town was within sight, the buildings appearing through cracks in the tree line. This was his favorite place, other than his own home of course, the town was as mentioned, decently sized, but the market is why people came, people selling all sorts of things, fruits, meats, arrows, swords, shields, etc. All set up to have many different stalls and buildings on the outskirts. The mephit walked through the town, buying a few throwing knifes to equip onto his belt for the need of some ranged attack. As well as buying a few fruits, jerky, and water to take for the trip to the next town. When he was done shopping, he made his way out, leaving his beloved hometown and onto the roads once again, strolling along nature.

The mephits walk took a long while, for the first half an hour he just walked, for the next he ate the orange he had boughten, the next after that he munched on the jerky, and the final he chugged the water, arriving at the town of Bombi, another decently sized town but nothing too special about it besides the mining that went on which gave many some work to do, a resident there in need of assistance, a normal demon that rode on the back of mortals, sucking the life out of them till they dropped, a simple task, just required a simple slice, although doing a simple slice in secrete is a problem. He had a decent idea about it, although he would need some holy water. He made his way to the local church, place that Hunter's frequent as it was a place against what they fought. Walking inside he greets the local priest, a white cat who looks quite cheery as he sees the skunk "Ah! Hello my friend! What brings you here?" he inquires the mephit "Hello Montecarlo. I require a jar of holy water, if that would be alright." the white cat gives a small nod and walks away to the back area of the church, to its storage room, usually Hunter equipment would be in the Haven, the place underneath the churches that Hunter's stop at, but this was a simple mundane item. Soon the feline returned, holding it out to the mephit whom takes it with an appreciative nod "Thank you Monte, I shall see about getting you funding to renovate this old building." he said to his old friend "Very appreciated, good luck" the Tom said heading off to his duties around the church whilst the mephit heads out of the building, looking around 'Now, how to get on top of the buildings.' he thought looking around for an easy access. He makes his way to the alleyways between the buildings, people frequently left trash out he could use to climb, sure enough, a stack of boxes was found to act as a sort of staircase for him. Depositing the jar into his tail for safe holding he gets a running start, jumping onto the first, then the second before leaping up to grab the ledge of the roof and hoisting himself up. He walks to the edge and scans the people walking by, unaware to his presence as he crouches down to change his angle.

After a few hours of people watching the citizens below the mephit was growing bored, where could this mundane be that he needed to assist "I know he doesn't know he requires the help but jeez, Monte told me he passed by here" he thought out loud, groaning to the air before peaking over the edge again to continue his search. A human walks down the street, well dressed in a newer suit, top hat and other accessories, looking like just another young man full of life, ready to meet the woman of his dreams, but he also had something on his back, something holding on to his dear life, draining it out day by day that is on there. The mephit smirks, there he is, and his target on the back, the creature looked like a black ebony frog, large enough to fit the whole torso, it was unseen to the rest of the world, including its victim, but not to the mephit, he saw it clear as day. The Skunk got up and walked over to the edge and opened the jar, waiting a few moments as the unknowing human walked underneath the outheld jar, which the mephitic turned over, the holy water splashing down and all over the human and the demon, the mortal, blinking and looking up, not seeing anything, while the demon fell, covered in its worst weakness of a holy item, it let out an unheard screech except to one then shrivled away, gone. The mephitic smirked from his sit on the ground, stretching out and yawning "Another job well done" he muttered getting up and walking across the rooftop, climbing down the other side and landing with ease. He made his way through the zing sagging alleyways, eventually getting out and close to his next destination, the church he was at earlier, a water portal was there he had installed and he needed to use it for a quick travel. The mephitic continued padding his way through town till he reached Montevallo's church, heading inside he greeted the cat and asked to use the portal. Monte lead him to the back of the church and opened up a secret hatch in the floor, out of view of anyone who would enter the church, the mephitic nodding a thanks and dropping down into the Haven. When he lands he looks up, there wasn't any other Hunter's there, not surprising since if there was he wouldn't have had to stop to take care of the Demon. He walks along the underneath of the church, the place large enough for the mephitic to stand without bending over, it was fairly clean as well, of course some dirt from it being underground but it was well kept, some weapons and bed mats spread around for any passing Hunters. In the back was the portal, identical to the one at his own manor. He walks over to it, standing in front of it. "Still fascinating that these work" he said aloud before thinking of his destination, the city of Catha, he took a few steps back and jumped into the water, soon he was surrounded by water, but he could breath just fine, yet he felt the water, soon the feeling ended as he arrived at his destination, his eyes opening to see the bright and glorious city knows as Catha. The city was quite large, surrounded by mountains and it seemed to have a natural glow, the buildings were made of stone and wood, mostly residential stuff, but there was a market, large with stalls of many types and stores along the outskirts, Native was proud of this city, it was the city of his comrades after all. He strides through the vast place, waving and greeting Hunters he knew as he makes his way to the Hall, where the council met. Upon arrival he was quickly ushered into the meeting room, one of the few places he disliked going to at times for how different people with the same cause and purpose can be on the execution. He moved and sat down in his seat, the other seats were taken up by a variety of species, the only seat empty was the one for his sister as usual. The meeting was long, and dragged out, arguments about where to send more hunters and whether or not to send Havens more money. Native himself able to win the council over on Haven funding, a strong debate of course about how extra money means better condition means better morale. After the meeting he left and headed straight to the Water Portals so that he may get home as quick as possible. The temple of the god of travel where the portals were held was just big enough for a portal, Natal went inside and gave a nod to the Hunter on duty to watch the portal before stepping through it.

His feet hit the ground outside of his home, the mephitic giving a soft smile and nodding to himself in approval about his day. He makes his way inside, stretching and yawning, after a quick meal of a nice delicious sandwich. He finishes his day by washing up, undressing, and climbing into his bed, closing his eyes and soon drifting off to sleep for the next day, but in his dream, he saw the water portal, tendrils coming forward through it, the water changing to blood, and two eyes looking, staring from inside the circle.
