#17 of Orion and the Fox

Here's the long awaited chapter 17, please enjoy.

"Perhaps if you and your flunkies weren't following me this could've been avoided." I replied. As I looked over my shoulder at the female wolf as she moved around to the front. Following her I noticed that she was wearing the barest of clothing and had three tails. She noticed that I was studying her features but, she didn't bother to say anything. "High Alpha are you familiar with a golden tri tail wolf named, Jaxal?" I wondered.

The four wolves currently holding me released their grip upon hearing that. While their leader went from raging made to surprised in a very short space of time. "How do you know that name outsider?" She countered clearly bothered by this. Doing the smart thing I carefully explained myself then revealed my clan mark. She approached slowly then took my left arm into hers and ran her fingers along it.

"This mark Ashandria herself bore but, if you wear it that makes you her heir." She stated. Nodding yes to answer her question she suddenly dropped down to her knees. Leaving me in an unusual frame of mind as she began mumbling under her breath. Even her four guards had done the same thing except for talking to themselves. "Miss would please stand up and tell me what in the world is going on here?" I asked.

Upon hearing that she looked up from where she knelt then gathered her thoughts. "Believe or not outsider Jaxal is my older brother and former leader of our pack. He met Ashandria a few years before the Valurean War even took place. Not once in several millennia has a pack member or leader fallen in love with a kitsune. Granted it wasn't completely unheard of but, it was usually dismissed as lust than love." She began.

"When the war did break out my brother surrender his leadership over to me. We barely heard from him during the war until the fighting was coming to an end. He also told us he was asked to become one of the Seven Guardians of Arcadim. One responsibility involved was to test anyone that walked the Path of Foxfire. I'm guessing you met my older brother during such a venture a while back?" She informed.

"Yes, and during our fight memories of their love suddenly entered my mind. Though as of lately he's been acting differently almost like he's found love again." I replied. Naturally that kicked off a whole new series of questioning on her part. I was quick to tell her that I don't know how strong this feeling is but, it's not a fling. That seemed to quell her curiosity for now anyway then she asked me to follow them.

"Before you ask we're taking you to where we call home you need some rest. Along with some supplies that'll be helpful when you go deeper into the mountains." She said. Thanking her for the generosity seeing as time was a bit of luxury for me right now. Until she pointed out that the deeper I go the more the overall temperature drops. The stuff I brought along wouldn't be enough after a while so I consented.

To my shock their home was along the road and I would've arrived here anyway. Jaxal's sister had her guards fetch the supplies while we took residence in her hut. As we sat across from each other I picked up on a strange yet familiar scent. It didn't take me long to learn what the scent was my hostess was presently in heat. "Forgive me for this but, I can sense that you're in heat and I'm already engaged." I said.

She flinched upright upon hearing that and slowly settled down before speaking. "I've known for a while your heart belongs to another but, you're not the only one. The female I'm engaged to is currently hunting for dinner which you're invited to." She replied. Now it was my turn to look surprised at the fact she was engaged to a woman. Than again this sort of thing is common in the realm my mother and I come from.

Naturally I wanted to ask her all sorts of questions but, I decided against it. Unsure how she'd take to having me poking into her private affairs so suddenly. She noticed the curiosity burning in my eyes while I thought about questioning her. "It must seem strange to someone from another realm to learn we don't discriminate." She stated. I had to admit it was a bit of shock to learn there are gay and lesbian couples here.

Though to learn about people with different sexual preferences was interesting. Sadly I couldn't stay amongst them long seeing as I needed to be somewhere else. "It would appear that my mate and the hunting party have returned with dinner." She said. Sure enough I picked up on five new energy signatures approaching the village gates. Following her lead we exited her hut and went to greet them as they returned home.

When her mate saw me let's just say it kicked off a whole set of fireworks. Jaxal's sister was quick to calm everyone down and explained everything to them. Granted it still didn't stop the strange looks I got before, during and after dinner. They asked if I'd like to spend the night and head out first thing in the morning. Sadly I told her that time was something that really wasn't on my side at the moment.

She and her mate were understanding and gave me the supplies they promised. "I can't thank you enough for your kindness I promise to return the favor someday." I said. "Orion you can repay me by keeping an eye on Jaxal and tell him to come visit." She replied. Bowing politely then resumed my journey deeper into the vast Hydra Mountains. Where heaven knows what else could be lying in wait for me on this venture.

Unfortunately I didn't get far when I heard someone calling out my name. Stopping a short distance away then waited for who ever it was to catch up. When they arrived let's just say I'm going to be in DEEP trouble when I get home. De' surai one of the High Alpha's most trusted guards had chosen to tag along. For some reason or another she figured that she could help since she knows the area.

Oddly enough having a secondary guide wouldn't hurt in the long run anyway. Permit me a moment to describe Lesura and you'll know why I'll be in trouble later. Standing roughly six foot three inches tall with great muscle tone and big curves. That one way or another Kyuri, Renka and Nubai are going to make me pay dearly. Hopefully Lesura will return to her village once this mission of mine here is complete.

Of course the entire time we walked I hadn't said a single word to the wolfess. "Excuse me, Orion is everything okay you're being rather quiet are you mad at me?" De' surai asked. Looking over my shoulder at the silver and maroon wolfess then spoke carefully. "No, De' surai I'm not mad at you I've got something else weighing on my mind." I replied. Curious to know what that might be and I was happy to inform my companion.

"Yeah, not looking forward to the return trip where my future wives are waiting. Especially if you plan on sticking around until my current mission is finished." I added. She told me that she's only sticking around until we passed by her village again. From there I'm pretty much on my own the rest of the way back to Mickale's village. Content with that we ventured deeper into the seemingly endless mountain range.

Every so often I'd pull out the mystic compass arrow from my pant's pocket. As I moved it around in front of me waiting to see if it'd glow or do something else. The object flashed a couple of times then stopped telling me I was on the right track. With that settled I put it back and continued down the road we were presently on. Keeping my fingers crossed that I didn't run into anymore problems or distractions.

Granted my companion has plenty of distraction potential going on as it stands. Though if prior events with Renka and Nubai hadn't occurred I would marry De' surai. Naturally that's if she found me attractive but, I don't dare ask that question now. Considering that would stir up a lot of aggravation that won't end well for anyone. Unless she brings the subject up I'm not going to say a word about this matter at all.

"Orion, you've grown quiet again or is there something you don't want to tell me." She said. Scratching the back of my head briskly in response before looking back at her. "It's a topic I'd rather not talk about and avoid being skinned alive in the near future." I replied. Seeing the look on my face told her plenty and she wisely dropped the subject. From there we agreed to pick up the pace when we reached a small down grade.

Once at the bottom of the hill we checked our surroundings for traps or company. When nothing presented itself we kicked up some dust and vanished instantly. Covering several miles in a shorter space of time only taking the occasional break. Either to catch our breath, grab a drink or check the map I carried in my pack. After a while I was becoming annoyed that it felt like zero progress was being made.

As night fell over the mountains we made camp and logged how far we traveled. While calculating the distance in my notebook I've traveled close to a hundred miles. Yet I'm nowhere near the end of this journey that was eating away at my patience. That wasn't a good thing though I prayed for some kind of break through here. If not I was going to say screw this, head back home and come up with another plan.

Sadly that felt too much like defeat and I couldn't live with myself if I gave up. I put the map and log book away then talked to De' surai about sleeping arrangements. We agreed that one would be asleep the other awake then change every four hours. With sunrise less than ten hours away I allowed her to sleep while I stayed up. She said goodnight as she entered the tent I assembled then fell asleep moments later.

Five hours later she woke up I toss a couple flesh logs into the fire and turned in. During the early morning hours the dream I had wasn't a pleasant one to say the least. I was groaning, tossing and turning so bad in the tent that it got Lesura's attention. Worried about my safety she did what she thought was best and joined me. When she entered the tent and crawled up along my body she felt something odd.

Upon closer inspection she noticed a handle of some kind between her big bust. Reaching over, grabbed it with her right hand and learn it wasn't a knife handle. The fur on her cheeks blushed right through the silver fur as she held my manhood. If I were to wake up at this point let's just say a misunderstanding wouldn't cut it. That's if Kyuri, Renka and Nubai had joined me but, since they didn't I dodged a bullet.

Well for the most part anyway until I get back and they learn about this event. Luckily De' surai was smart enough to leave the tent before something bad transpired. Though the poor wolfess was having mixed feelings as she sat in front of the fire. It was a combination of arousal, uncertainty and jealousy towards my fiancées. She was shocked that someone from another realm possessed such a package.

As if things weren't bad enough the wolfess could feel her heat cycle coming. With a fertile male like myself so close resisting the urge to mate would be impossible. Keeping her fingers crossed that it wouldn't bother her until she returned home. Seeing as nothing has been anything but, easy I knew this was gonna be any easier. Though whatever would be thrown my way I'd find a way to make it work or try at least.

Unfortunately I've yet to deal with a female in heat from this realm before. So naturally this is going to be the journey from hell and that's not a good thing. When the sun finally rose above the tallest peak I stirred then stretched out briefly. Next I got dressed, exited the tent and greeted De' surai then started cooking breakfast. She entered the tent to freshen up while I grabbed what I needed to make our meal.

After a while I grew concerned about my companion so I checked on the wolfess. "De' surai are you okay in there? Do you need anything breakfast will be done shortly." I said. Five minutes went by and I didn't hear anything right away except breathing. "I'll be out shortly Orion okay, I just need to finish with a personal matter." She replied. That was fine with me to be honest I didn't want to go in there unless I had to.

Once she joined me and ate something we resumed our already long journey. It wasn't until we reach yet another mountain that we had a major climb ahead. I was thankful for the gear Jaxal's sister gave me while De' surai looked around. Upon unloading the last of the climbing gear from inside my back pack she returned. She informed me that she found a path that looked stable but, nothing is ever a guarantee.

With time still against us I decided that if this got us to our goal then I'll risk it. Of course if circumstances end up changing than I suggested we pray for a miracle. She helped me double check the lines, climbing spikes and picks before ascending. "Everything looks good, just make sure that your pack serves as a counter weight. Also keep one hand close to the brake in case you slip while climbing understand." She informed.

From there she began to climb while marking where it was stable and wasn't. As I tried to focus on where my hands and feet were the arrow began to glow. It started out softly at first until it shined bright enough it actually lit up the area. Waiting until we found a safe ledge to rest on before pulling it out of my pocket. Sixty feet later I sat down then pulled the object out then moved it around slowly.

Of course I pointed it out towards the valley watching it carefully for anything. Sadly nothing but, as I went to place it back into my pocket when it reacted brightly. Apparently I've reached where the Goddess of Ice and Earth wanted me to find. Considering how the arrow had reacted now the fun part uncovering the compass. Giving our present location that would prove tricky but, the question is how.

Seeing as I didn't know how deep it was buried and that could be a problem. To add to the growing list how much further do I need to travel into these mountains. According to De' surai we're about one eighth of the way which didn't help any. Though she was confident that we would reach our destination in a timely fashion. Taking her word for it as I retrieved a shovel from my pack and assembled it.

Before doing any digging we made sure the ledge we were on was stable. Once we knew for certain it wouldn't crumble I got to work digging out the relic. Several minutes went by and I was making good progress until my shovel clanged. Just my luck that I'd run into an obstacle until the object began to pulse with light. Pulling out the compass arrow it was resonating along with the object in the hole.

Apparently my search was over the rest of the compass was inside this object. Not wasting anymore time I cleared enough dirt away then pulled the item out. It was a small bronze box with ancient symbol etched onto every single inch. Opening the box proved harder than getting the thing out of the mountain side. As I held the arrow up to the lock it suddenly clicked open then fell to the ground.

Next lifting the lid revealing a well crafted compass with no arrow on the axel. Carefully placing the open section of the arrow over the axel and it fit perfectly. All of a sudden it filled with this strange liquid that flash froze then began to spin. "Well, done now that you've completed the compass are you read for the next task?" A voice asked. De' surai stood there wondering why I stood there frozen upon reassembling the compass.

"There's a road fifty yards above your present location once you get there. Continue north for two days until you see the sun touching the tallest mountain top. Point the compass up and the bridge to the realm of the gods shall be revealed." It informed. Sadly before anything more could be said a gentle shake woke me from my trance. Asking me what happened so I told her that I received the next clue on my journey.

Though it was pretty specific that her services wouldn't be needed anymore. She's been a huge help since I left her village but, I didn't know what was ahead. Naturally I didn't want to risk her safety then face her pack leader and mate's wraith. With at least two and half days of travel left on this already endless venture. "Hey, De' surai why don't we call it a day and get an early start tomorrow morning." I said.

Not seeing any harm considering the climb did drain most of our energy. With that said we got starting making camp while there was still sun light present. She handled dinner while I took care of setting up the tent and put up a divider. This should prevent any problems between should we share the tent tonight. Granted if we sleep in shifts like we've been doing than it shouldn't be an issue.

Once the tent was all secure inside and out she was just about done cooking. When I went to ask if she needed help with dinner she had me sit down and relax. Seeing as it was ready to be serve I grabbed our plates and utensil then took a seat. While we ate I noticed something was bothering her but, I couldn't figure out what. Instead of acting on my curiosity I wisely kept quiet foregoing asking De' surai.

Little did I know at the time I'd find out what was bothering her soon enough. After dessert I took the time to clean all the dishes while she washed up. Even though there wasn't a major source of water around we made the best of it. By the time the dishes were clean and put away it was my turn to take a bath. Leaving my companion to snuff out the campfire and get ready to turn in for the night.

"Umm, I wouldn't advise sleeping in shifts especially at this altitude Orion." She stated. With the fire out and the sun gone from the sky I could feel the temp dropping. Taking deep breath then said a small prayer and joined her inside the tent. She was already making herself cozy inside her sleeping bag as I knelt onto mine. As I crawled towards the open end of bag she reached over and turned on the heater.

It used special heat stones that require a little energy and heat a space for hours. The amount of energy you give them determines how long they last and the temp. While I made myself comfy De' surai was sound asleep on her side of the tent. Once I found a comfortable position it wasn't long before I drifted off to sleep. During the night my dreams showed me a happy future with my three future wives.

Until a strange noise slowly roused me from my peaceful dream and slumber. My eyes opened and took a while to adjust to the amount of light around me. As I looked around the sound got louder then I felt good, strange yet good. "Mmm, salty and so big Orion your wives don't know just how luckily they are." She murred. "DE' SURAI WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!" I screamed piecing it together.

To be continued.
