Math. From minute one, when he stepped through the door to Math class, Shadow decided he just didn't like the subject. He had vague memories of helping Maria with her Math homework, and remembered just how much she had despised the subject. And even after her death, Shadow had come to despise the subject even more. The sum of complex Mathematical problems and Scientific theories hadn't been able to keep Maria alive. Shadow hated Math, because Math made him suffer.

Though, from minute two, when he had settled into the class for an entire minute, he realized that this class was much different from any typical Math class. For instance, one of the posters that he saw on the wall exclaimed, ‘Come on! Math is Fun!' Except ‘Come' wasn't spelled right...

Shadow knew the routine. New school, new class... new anything meant standing in front of the group and giving a name and a general history-in-a-nutshell. So Shadow, instead of following everyone else to find a spare seat, instead headed for the teacher's desk.

The teacher for this class was a female jaguar, who seemed quite young... almost too young to be teaching. Her eyes sparkled in iridescent blue, and as he approached she licked her lips almost hungrily. He came to a stop at the edge of her desk, and had barely opened his mouth to speak and explain who he was before she reached over, placed her paw over his lips and smiled.

"Don't say anything, I already know who you are," she said. "My name is Miss Carmen, and you can give your introduction once the bell rings and people have calmed a bit. They‘ll probably want to ask you some questions, though, if you don‘t mind answering them." She removed her paw from his mouth, but continued to stare at him.

Shadow was a little unnerved, but nodded. He'd never been stared at by a predator. It had always been him stalking his victims, so to be in the shoes of the prey was a completely different experience for him. He felt like she was sizing him up, as if she had a plate at home that would be just the right size to fit a roasted hedgehog upon. He zoned out a bit while standing at her desk, so when the bell rang five minutes later, he jumped, shocked.

It didn't take long for the class to quiet down. The fact that there was a new student here now helped to calm the class, and they were eager to know where this interesting looking kid had come from.

At a nod from the teacher, Shadow turned towards the class and crossed his arms, giving the appearance that he was a loner and probably shouldn't be messed with. "My name is Shadow. I'm involved in a foreign exchange program between this school and my home school group in Mobius, Japan."

His statement was rehearsed, and it sounded like it, but it would have to do. If he was going to be able to search for the Emeralds at this school unimpeded, he would have to go with the story that he was a student from Japan. As long as nobody asked him to translate Japanese for them, because he didn't know if the excuse that Mobius was a ‘secret American base in Japan' was going to fly with this group.

The class didn't seem to notice the rehearsed tone in his statement, though. The minute he sounded like he was done giving his little introduction, hands all over the class shot up. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the teacher contemplating who to call on first. She pointed out a male cougar near the front of the class., who immediately launched into his question.

"Hi, Shadow, my name is Todd. Those are some cool sneakers. What brand are they?" The cougar seemed genuinely friendly.

Shadow looked down at his shoes, then back up at the cougar and the rest of the class. "No brand, really. I made them myself." The class began murmuring amongst themselves, but nobody challenged Shadow's claim. He thought he heard a few students exclaim "Neat!" and "Cool!" and wondered how many sneaker orders he'd have to fill before leaving this dimension.

More hands shot up, and the teacher picked out a cute lioness near the back.

"M-my name is Rhonda. Um... do you have a girlfriend?" The lioness seemed to be hiding her face as she asked her question, so it came out muffled and Shadow had a hard time understanding what she was saying.

"I'm sorry, I didn't hear your question... Rhonda, was it?" Shadow took a couple steps forward and strained to listen.

Rhonda, however, was too shy to repeat her question, and shook her head as a sign to never mind. She quickly sat down, covering her face in her hands and turning almost beet red.

More hands shot up, and Miss Carmen announced that there was time for two more questions before class would start. There was a general groan throughout the class, but the hands stayed in the air. The jaguar picked out a female raccoon near the middle of the classroom, a couple seats in front of the lioness she had called on before.

"I'm Jayden, and I'm Rhonda's best friend." This girl seemed very loud, and very confident, but very full of herself. "So I'm gonna ask her question. She asked you if you had a girlfriend. But I'm gonna add to that question and ask what your sexuality is. Because everyone knows Rhonda swings both ways, but I'm totally straight, and totally free." She flashed her most flirty smile, and half the class groaned.

_‘Shadow, you're like my boyfriend, right?' Maria asked him, kneeling next to him as he lay on her grandfather's laboratory bed, while the doctor continued his experiments.

Shadow turned his head to look at her, and gave her a puzzled look. 'What is this term, boyfriend?'

Maria giggled. 'Oh, just a boy that loves his girlfriend enough to want to be together forever. I'm your girlfriend, and you're my boyfriend.'_

"Shadow?" A calm voice shook him from his memory. The class was looking at him oddly. It seems he had zoned out when that overzealous girl Jayden asked about a girlfriend.

"Oh... sorry. I used to have a girlfriend, years ago. But someone sh- er, lied about me to her, and we split up, and then she moved away. I haven't heard from her since. So no, I don't have a girlfriend," Shadow answered.

The class started muttering, and Jayden spoke up. "So you prefer straight girls?"

Shadow shrugged. "I'm straight, and prefer girls. I don't care if the girl ‘swings both ways,' as you say." He noticed the girl Rhonda had looked up as he said that, and he flashed her a rare smile. Something about her reminded him of Maria.

The teacher held up her hand to quiet down the class again. "We have time for one more question, and then I have to get this class started." She looked out over the class as hands shot up again. She contemplated a moment, then picked out a male wolf near the extreme left edge of the class, about midway down the row.

"My name's Peter, and this is my question. What's that thing in your pocket?" He pointed at Shadow's right pants pocket, and the hedgehog blinked.

"This?" Shadow reached into his pocket and pulled out the Chaos Emerald. He held it up and the entire class admired its beauty. "It's called a Chaos Emerald. It's a worthless gem as far as monetary value is concerned, but it holds the potential to power an entire city for weeks if used correctly."

Peter snorted. "Yeah, right. What is it, really?"

"Now, now, Peter. Shadow answered your question," interrupted the teacher. "It may be exactly as Shadow says it is, and you wouldn't know because you're not from Japan."

The entire class was silent after that, looking at him oddly. Nobody seemed to have bought the story, but Shadow didn't care. If they thought he was lying, then the fact that he was collecting them shouldn't peak any of their interests. Or so he thought.

At any rate, the teacher thanked Shadow for answering the questions, then directed him to a seat near the back of the class, just behind the shy lioness Rhonda.

As soon as he was seated, the teacher rose from her seat and stood in front of the class. She had a piece of chalk in one paw, and turned towards the blackboard, writing the words 'Pop Quiz' upon it, and writing some problems underneath the words. Students left and right were pulling paper and pencils from their desks, and Shadow realized he didn't have any supplies with him. He started to raise his hand, but the loud-mouthed girl Jayden, who had risen from her seat near the front of the class and wandered back to Rhonda's desk, leaned over and whispered fiercely in his ear.

"Just look in your desk. Unlike other schools, this school provides at least one notebook and pencil per student, per class."

Shadow looked at the girl, and she had this smug smile on her face that just made him want to punch her in the mouth. She reminded him so much of Sonic.

Instead of following his cruel instincts, however, Shadow just opened his desk and pulled from it a sharpened pencil and a brand new notebook. By the time he had the desk closed and notebook open, Jayden had returned to her seat, and several problems were written on the board. It was simple, basic math, and not hard at all.

All in all, twenty problems were written on the board total. The problems ranged from the simple addition and subtraction problems, to some harder multiplication and long division problems, and even some fraction-to-decimal conversion problems showed up. Shadow had little difficulty with the quiz, and finished it rather quickly.

When the Miss Carmen saw that everyone had finished with the main part of the quiz, she erased the board, but left the words ‘Pop Quiz' upon it. Underneath those words, she wrote a word problem, placing a star next to it, and proclaiming that the class had ten minutes to copy the problem onto their own papers and solve it, for a chance to gain an extra ten points on their quiz.

Shadow had written half the problem on his paper before the absurdity of the question hit him.

'One Viagra pill's effects lasts approximately six hours. One bottle of Viagra holds approximately forty-eight pills. If Bobby takes one third of half a bottle of Viagra while preparing for his girlfriend's birthday party and sleepover, how long should his hard-on last?'

"What kind of math class allows that kind of question? This is a strange school," he fiercely whispered to himself. He looked around, hoping nobody had heard him, but everyone was busy with their heads down, scribbling like mad to try to figure out the solution to the strange question.

Shadow read over the question a couple more times, then put his pencil to the paper and started writing out the important information, formulating his mathematical theory, and doing the necessary math in order to solve the question.

Eventually he found the correct answer, and within the time limit. He couldn't help but feel unnerved by the unhealthy feel of the question in its given form, so he gave two answers on his paper. Consciously, he was glad that he had flipped his quiz paper over to solve this particular problem.

A) Bobby should retain his hard-on for forty-eight hours, the same as two days.

OR

B) The immense amount of medication in his system causes Bobby to have a heart attack and die, and the only hard-on he gets is the one he receives when rigormortis sets in.

Shadow wrote his name in the top corner of his paper and tore it from his notebook, seeing the rest of the class doing the same. Miss Carmen saw that everyone was done, and instructed the class to pass their papers to the person in front of them, and the people in the front of the rows passing theirs to the backs of the rows.

Shadow gave his paper to Rhonda in front of him, and was given a paper by the badger that sat behind him. The name at the top of the paper read ‘Alex' in a smooth cursive format, and Shadow wondered if he would be thought less of because he wrote his own name in standard print format. He would have to wonder later, as the teacher was writing the answers to the questions on the board, and Shadow had to grade the paper in front of him.

He opened his desk and found a red pen, identical to the pens being used by everyone else. He turned to the paper in front of him, and checked his answers to the answers on the board. Shadow left every right answer unmarked, and put a red X next to every wrong answer.

When ten minutes had passed and the teacher seemed satisfied that all papers had been graded, she instructed the class to pass the quiz papers to the front of the room. Shadow passed Alex's paper to the front, along with the paper that was passed to him from the seat behind Alex. Once all the papers were collected, the teacher gave the next twenty minutes of class as a study period, while she reviewed the papers and recorded grades.

Shadow watched the class open their desks and remove their math books, so he did the same, opening his desk and removing the math book that he had not seen before. The page number written on the board was page 72, so Shadow opened his book and turned to the required page.

On the said page, Shadow read the title The Multiplication Tables and looked at the diagram. The multiplication table ran up to fourteen, and there were plenty of example problems on the page below it to explain how the table worked. Shadow thought it looked pretty dumb, and was pretty sure he already knew everything there was to know on the page, so he turned the page to see what kinds of math problems would probably be written up as homework.

The problems were easy enough, but the one thing that really got his attention was a diagram of what looked like one of the school bathrooms. From the minimal detail, Shadow could just barely make out that it was a male bathroom. There were arrows pointing to one of the walls, and under the arrows were the words ‘Glory Hole' in red letters.

Shadow wondered what a ‘Glory Hole' was. He thought of himself as ignorant in this universe, then scolded himself for the thought. Being ignorant meant that he had the information available to him and was ignoring it, which did not describe his current situation at all. He then thought of himself as more misinformed or uninformed, and agreed with himself.

He was stirred out of his self-loathing reverie by the feeling of several pairs of eyes staring at him. He looked up and saw Rhonda, who was giving him the oddest look, followed by Jayden, who was also looking at him strangely. No doubt the one had told the other about the odd answers on his paper.

Shadow would have said something if not for the teacher, who called him to her desk at that exact moment. Shadow left his book open to the page on the board, and left his seat, heading for the teacher's desk. He came to a rest at about the same spot he'd stopped at this morning.

"Yes, ma'am?" Shadow asked, trying to be polite. The last thing wanted was to be in trouble for something and smart off to the teacher, as that would lead to having to deal with that asshole Jon and the Principal.

The teacher smiled at Shadow. "I just got a call from the Principal. You are to report to his office at the beginning of lunch, and be prepared to miss the rest of the school day."

Shadow was puzzled, and it showed in his face. "Did he happen to say why I would be missing half the day?"

Miss Carmen shrugged. "Something about a mental health evaluation, but I didn't understand it much."

"Hmm," Shadow replied, scratching his head. A mental health evaluation meant a doctor's visit, which meant spending more time with Jon. "Is that all?"

The teacher nodded, then smiled. "It sure is. You can go sit back down... the bell should be ringing soon for your next class."

Shadow nodded, then turned and started walking back to his desk. He hated giving the ‘I'm innocent and don't know nothing' routine, but if it kept suspicious people off his back...

He sat back down in his seat and noticed a few different things at once. First off, there was an odd musky scent in the air around his seat, and for some reason he thought he recognized it. The more he thought about the scent, and the more he tried to figure out where it came from and why he recognized it, the more hot under the collar he became. His pants eventually started to feel tight around his lower torso and crotch.

Secondly, he noticed that someone had closed his math book. He shrugged at this discovery, and picked it up in order to put it away. This led to the discovery that it wasn't closed all the way. Something was inside his book, preventing it from being closed. He opened the book and became very red when a pair of white panties fell out of the pages and into his lap.

Hurriedly, he opened his desk and put the book away, shoving the panties into his desk with it. He would leave them for the next kid to find and deal with. He noticed that by closing the panties away, the familiar musky smell disappeared a little, but not much.

When he had recovered from his shock and surprise, he noticed a note lying on his desk that hadn't been there before. The paper used was red as blood, and the note itself seemed to be folded into eighths, with his name written across the front in black marker. He picked it up and opened it, his eyes grazing its single question and simple signature.

‘Have you ever gotten head in Math class before?' it asked, and was signed by Jayden. He looked up from the note, masking his confused emotion (since he had no idea what head was and how one got it), and noticed Jayden staring at him, that same flirty smile on her face from before. Since he didn‘t have any writing utensils out, he opened his desk and grabbed his pencil, which forced him to look at the panties again. He closed his desk and hastily scribbled a reply, folding the note and putting it back on the desk, which Jayden grabbed and stuffed into the elastic of her skirt, to read later.

Once the note was out of the way, Shadow noticed one last thing. There was a faint squishing sound emanating from Rhonda's seat in front of him. Rhonda herself was squirming back and forth, her head tilted back with her eyes closed and a paw shoved into her mouth, as if to muffle whatever sound she might be making. Shadow couldn't see her other hand, but he had a pretty good idea what she might be using it for. He realized that the panties were probably hers, and the realization caused him to blush.

The bell rang at that moment and almost the entire class rose and walked quickly to escape the confines of the math room. In the chaos of leaving the room, Shadow opened the desk and pulled the panties from it, stuffing them into his pocket. He stayed seated after closing his desk to try to loosen the pressure in his slacks, and Rhonda stayed seated to finish her personal activity. Once the students were out of the room, Shadow rose from his seat and walked out of the room as well, looking behind him as he passed Rhonda. He couldn't make anything out, though.

Shadow found that in the clean air of the hallway, the heat rising in his body subsided. He pulled the class listing from his pocket that he had been given on Friday, and checked the paper to see which class he had next.

1) Math - Miss Carmen

2) Science - Mrs. Cilohaegoops

3) Art - Miss Gloria

LUNCH

4) English - Mr. Parks

5) Social Studies - Miss Sapphic

6) Gym - Lucy

So, obviously, his next class was Science. With Miss Cilohaegoops. He had no idea where the class was, but followed a hunch that he maintained the same classmates in every class, and was overjoyed to find that his hunch was correct. He should be able to see Jayden's reaction to his reply first hand, as well as maybe talk to that shy lioness. Shadow found her to be exceedingly cute, plus he had to give her back her panties...
