Coffee for the Fox in You! for Wolfmage by Draconicon

Storm had barely woken up when he heard a knock at the door. The dragonwolf tried to ignore it, but as the knocking continued unabated for nearly a minute, he finally gave up the ghost. Putting on a pair of slippers and a bathrobe, he made his way downstairs. Stumbling over the last few stairs and stubbing his toe on one of the pairs of boots by the front door, he was left muttering curses under his breath when he finally opened the door.

"Yes?"

"Package for Storm?"

The dragonwolf blinked sleepily at the vulpine postman at his door. He didn't recognize him, but then again, he usually got his mail in the afternoon, not right at the crack of dawn. He was probably someone new to the route, or something.

"Package?"

"You're Storm, then?"

"'m Storm, yeah."

"Here."

The fox put the package in his hands, and handed him something to sign. Barely aware of the letters in front of his face, let alone the words, he signed it to get the fox to just go away. It took him three tries to scribble his name in some form of legibility that satisfied the postman, and even then the little guy tried to say something.

Storm ignored him, slamming the door shut before taking the package towards the kitchen. Now that he was up, there was no way he was getting back to sleep. He might as well get the day started.

However, there was one small problem in his way.

"You've got to be kidding me. No coffee?!"

As much as he hated the idea, he was forced to admit that was the case after searching through all the different cupboards. The last bit of coffee in the bottom of the coffee tin wasn't nearly enough to actually provide a cup of it, let alone the jug that he needed at this point. The dragonwolf groaned under his breath, leaning against the counter.

"This is going to be a really, really long day..."

As he grumbled to himself, he looked back at the package on the table. As much as he hated being woken up to get it, he supposed he might as well see what was so damn important that he needed to get up and sign for it so early. He reached over and picked it up, flipping it around to read who it was from.

Forefox, the label said. Despite his grumpiness, the dragonwolf found himself smiling, at least a little bit. Forefox was a good friend, and a generous one. Always getting into some weird place or another, the fox loved to send souvenirs off to his friends, and Storm always liked the little things that he got from the globetrotter. Reaching for the seals on the package, he wondered what he'd get this time.

A quick slip of his claws cut the tape, and inside was -

"...I woke up for this?"

Wrapped in bubble wrap was a tin of coffee, of all things. Crossfox coffee, according to the label. He'd never heard of it before, but apparently it was valuable enough to warrant a signature at the break of dawn and wake him up from a good night of sleep. The dragonwolf groaned at the lack of foresight from his fox friend.

Well, at least now I have some coffee, he thought as he took it out of the packaging. Ignoring the happily grinning fox with a cup of coffee on the logo, Storm measured out the proper measure of grounds for his machine and started the brewing process.

Almost immediately, the warm smell of the coffee started perking him up, making him smile and enjoy the soft odors filling the room. He could almost taste the caffeine already, and that was a big thing to him.

As the coffee brewed, Storm looked out the window. The sheer disgust he felt for the early morning was mirrored on the overcast sky, which barely allowed any of the sunlight of the coming dawn to light up the ground. From bitter experience, he knew that the light would take at least an hour to get to a point anywhere near useful, and he knew he wouldn't be able to enjoy himself for a while. Grumpily grabbing himself a cup and pouring from the carafe, Storm took one more look out the window before taking a sip of the coffee.

The first drink took him by surprise by its tongue-tingling flavor, and the dragonwolf paused after the first gulp to look down at the dark liquid.

"Damn...That's good."

Really good, in fact. The coffee was beyond any storebought quality, that was for damn sure. The dragonwolf looked back at the brand name on the tin, committing the name to memory. He'd definitely have to try more of this stuff.

As he took another sip, Storm took a moment to appreciate the flavor more fully. It tingled all the way down, from his tongue to his throat, and all the way down to his stomach. The wonderful, comforting warmth that came with any cup of coffee was particularly present here, the heat spreading through his body from his stomach outwards.

"I'm going to have to have more of this."

Pouring himself a couple of cups, Storm took the handful of mugs with him back to his room. He sniffed the steam coming off of them in a deep, happy breath, feeling as though his entire body was growing lighter with the smell. At the very least, he was able to walk up the steps much easier, and he landed on the top step with a lightness that he hadn't felt since he was a teen.

Even walking back into his room was different. Usually he had to watch his tail, but for some reason, it swished with him, swishing along the doorway rather than leaving a dent in it. Storm was surprised, but happy. At least something was going nicely this morning.

He slipped into his bed again, shoving his legs down under the covers as he settled in for a nice morning of simple coffee drinking. Turning the TV on the far side of the room on, he turned to a channel that was more or less nonsense, something that provided background noise more than anything else, and pulled a cup of coffee to his mouth.

It was just as divine as before, and the dragon sighed to himself as he leaned back. Closing his eyes, he let the taste of the coffee wash over his taste buds, the warmth from the drink spreading through his whole upper body, warming him from stomach to neck, and even into his head a bit. He smiled, his head against the headboard of the bed as he let out a long, contented sigh from the feeling.

And...his tail was...wagging?

Halfway through his cup of coffee, Storm put it down and looked to his side. What he saw stunned him.

His scaled tail was gone, replaced by something soft and brushy instead. The thick, furry length was so alien that he wondered if it belonged to someone else. Even as he reached for the blankets, though, he saw it wasn't the only change that had come over him. His arms were covered in orange fur down to his forearm, where it changed from red to black, going down to his palms. Even they had changed, growing furred save for several pads along the palm and along his fingers.

He still felt warm from the coffee, too, and Storm threw the blankets off of him, pulling off his robe as he looked at his stomach. Orange and white fur creeped out from his scales and over his belly, running up his sides and towards his chest. He ran his new hands over it, staring at it in shock.

"What the...the coffee."

It had to be that. Even the name, Crossfox, should have suggested something to him, that the coffee would be responsible for something like this.

Yet...

Yet he wasn't upset. There was something to the comforting warmth of the coffee and the new fur running over his body that left him feeling happy, contented rather than worried. Storm's smile slowly returned as he settled back down on the bed, rubbing his hand over the fur running up his belly as he took another sip of his coffee.

With each sip, the transformation continued a little bit further. His torso, already rather lean, slimmed down further. His muscles went from somewhat bulky to completely trim, fitting his smaller, more slender form. His stomach flattened further, and his tail was soon the biggest part of his upper body, floofing out wider than he was thick.

The orange fur continued up his neck, soon reaching his head and moving along the sides of it. His ears grew larger, and pointier on the top of his head, flicking around like radar dishes as they grew to resemble a fox's more. As the fur went down his snout, it grew more slender, narrower rather than the boxy shape that the dragonwolf had had until that point. He grinned, reaching up and stroking it; it felt nice.

With a happy groan, Storm guzzled down the rest of the cup of coffee, feeling the warmth spreading through his body once more. The feeling was much more intense this time around, probably because of all the Crossfox stuff already inside of him, and he felt it spread all the way from his head to his toes, leaving a lovely tingle wherever it went.

When he lowered his cup again, the fur was spreading again, taking with it the new shape to his body. The fur poomfed out around his boxers, making them look like they were more stuffed than they were, even as his hips shrunk down. His thighs shrank down, slimming down compared to the muscled thickness they had before, and he couldn't help giggling as it made him look so skinny from the knees up and so ridiculously thick from the knees down.

That changed quickly, though, his legs losing what traits of dragon and wolf that he still had. Covered in new fur, weaker, slimmer, but more graceful than he had ever been before, his body finished its transformation into a fox.

Storm pulled himself out of bed again, testing how his new body felt. It definitely was lighter on its feet than his dragonwolf self had ever been. He particularly liked his new tail, which had such a swishy way of moving that it made him feel like he was walking down a catwalk. He chuckled at the thought, pulling it around him almost like a fur stole; it was long enough that it certainly fit for that.

Then a thought occurred, and he grinned as he picked up the phone. He dialed Forefox's number, and waited. After four rings, the phone connected, and he heard a loud yawn from the other end.

"What do you want, Storm? It's four in the morning."

"Well, it's not that much later here."

"You must have - yawwwwwwn - already had coffee, then."

"Yes, I did. Your coffee. That you had delivered."

"...Oh."

"Yeah. Oh."

"Uh, listen, if you're upset, it does wear off, and -"

"Oh no no, I'm not upset."

"You're not?"

"No, I rather like it. But next time?"

"Yeah?"

"Have them deliver it in the afternoon. I hate waking up this early."

The End
