Astral High - Chapter 29
#31 of Astral High
... I am back from my arbitrary bout of inexistence. Sorry this chapter is shorter, but, hey, it's got a good bit of story in it.
After being rushed to fifth period by Seth, I found myself in a chemistry class with Dante, Gavin, and Marko.
"Oh, so the new guy's in a , huh?" [Marko]
"Shut up, Mark." [Dante]
"Hey, I'm just pointing it out-"
"Marko, you know damn well what you're doing. It's not like you can change it anyways." [Gavin]
"Change what?" [Me]
"Oh, right." [Dante]
"Yeah, who let slip about it?" [Marko]
"See, I would've dismissed that, until you hinted at it being a secret, which then peaked my curiosity." [Me]
"God dammit." [Gavin]
"Oh, come on! You can trust me, I'll only tell everyone." [Me]
"Alex, this isn't a secret you can use to black mail me." [Marko]
"Yeah, when people find out, it'll destroy everything." [Dante]
"Oh, yeah right!" [Me]
"Well, it is a big deal. It'd be pretty embarrasing if anyone found out." [Gavin]
"Embarrasing my ass, it'd feel like the end." [Dante]
"Okay, fine, I won't pester you about it. Instead, I'll pester you about being ass hole." [Me]
"Hey, what'd I ever do to you?" [Gavin]
"He's talking to me." [Marko]
"Oh, right."
"So, what do you think you know? I mean, there's probably a lot more to the story that you don't know." [Marko]
"Titus called Ted, Teddy Bear, and you and Tanner made it way worse by saying things like he's as worthless as one." [Me]
"Oh, well, you have more to the story than I'd like. Fine. It's over and done with, anyways. Not like I can take it back." [Marko]
"Oh, you mean find a way to settle things with Ted?" [Me]
"Yeah, is there?"
"Yeah, dump Tanner."
"No. I spent too long trying to get him, I'm not-"
"Look, Tanner's the one who worsened the teasing, and Ted wants him dead. Since murder is illegal, suffering will have to do. Dump him."
"Hey, I like Ted, but I love Tanner. I'm not dumping him just so Ted can feel a little better about his psychotic self."
"Yeah, you're pretty much asking him to do the impossible." [Dante]
"If someone told me and Dante to break up, I'd kill them. You know, after a couple months." [Gavin]
"Wait, you two are dating?" [Me]
"Three, Dustin's in with them. To make it weirder, they're all related. Fuckin' tripcest, man." [Marko]
"Tripcest- oh. Oh, cool."
"Cool?!" [Marko]
"Yeah, brotherly love, but a little more sexual." [Me]
"Oh, finally. Someone who gets it." [Dante]
"I mean, it's completely weird, but..."
"At least you're okay with it." [Gavin]
"Yeah..."
"... So, is there any reasonable thing I can do to get Ted back on my side?" [Marko]
"Probably not." [Me]
"Hm."
"What if you- wait, no. Nevermind." [Gavin]
"What if I what?" [Marko]
"Stop acting, you know what, and you know it doesn't change anything." [Dante]
"God dammit, maybe it will!" [Marko]
"I doubt that, especially since I'm the one who studies it more." [Dante]
"Oh come on, it's a river, we can choose which way we go!"
"No. No we can't. It may be a river, but each drop of water follows a set path, and that path doesn't change, because all the variables have already been accounted for, and already shape the future."
"... What the fuck are you talking about?" [Me]
"Oh, uhh... nothing." [Dante]
"Time. He's got this crazy idea that we can predict all the events of the future- and past. Marko believes the opposite, that we can choose our own destiny, and that nothing's set in stone. I don't know why, but they're both really opinionated about it." [Gavin]
"Wait, so their secret is that they're unusually opinionated about time? Wow, some secret." [Me]
Marko blushed, "Heh, that's part of it, but you get the idea."
