Zach's Life Changing Experience

A flash of Blue light filled the night sky followed by a loud scream of pain. Furs ran and more light filled the sky. Fear filled the air as the furs screamed and ran making the lights in the street flicker as there shadows passed. Three figures walked down the middle of the street the one in the middle shooting bolts of blue light from his paws. You couldn't see his face due to the hood the covered him but he was tall and scary.

A man ran by then and said "Mary we need to hide him now."

"But Raven, he's only a baby - he needs our help." Said a female voice

"A baby he may be but his life is in danger here. Savage wants him dead." Said the voice called Raven

"I know but where can we hide him." Said Mary

"I know a place, come now before Savage kills us too..." said Raven then another flash of blue light and another scream

Zach awoke screaming as he fell out of his bed. For a moment he thought he was still under attack but then he calmed himself down and got to his feet. He walked over to his small bucket of water that he used to wash his face and he dunked his head in for moment pulling it out then looking into the large mirror. A white canine looked back at him.

Zach was a tall pure white male hybrid. He was almost all white except for a strange black marking on his white fur that started on his back as a lightning bolt then went over his shoulders and came together at his chest, where it met a marking that strangely resembled a wolf's head. It was something he had been born with - or so he was told by the fur that raised him. Zach was a good looking fur with a nice framed body that showed every muscle he had in fine detail. Most would have thought he was a nice looking fur, however two things stopped everyfur from telling him. One was because he had two tails - one white like his body, the other black as night. The other was because he was a half-breed. His mother had been a husky but she died when he was a baby. His father was a wild wolf from some tribe in the north. He never knew what happened to his father nor did he care. Since he was a wolf half-breed no female was allowed to mate with him. This was the law of the land in the kingdom of Raseri.

Zach was used to this by now and in his twenty three years he never once hated having two tales. It made it easier for him to do things that most furs couldn't. For example, though he was canid, he could walk on a thin tree limb without falling. But none of that mattered right now, Zach had the dream again, the one that showed the monster called Savage killing furs and the voices the ones called Raven and Mary. This was a dream he had had many times before but this was the first time it had ever seemed so real. He had asked Len what it meant but the old Great Dane who raised him dismissed him gruffly.

Len wasn't a nice fur not one bit but he always protected Zach like he was one of his own pups. Though it seemed that Len didn't like anyone, he wasn't all bad. The only fur he was ever somewhat nice to was Zach - and that was rare. Zach understood his bad temper; Len had lost his family and part of his left leg fighting in the Great War. Still, despite all that, he was still called one of the best black smiths in the land. The king himself always came to Len when he needed a new sword made.

Zach looked back at himself in the mirror admiring his bright green eyes then he said "What does this all mean, I wonder." But he decided to forget about the dream and he looked outside to see the sun starting to come up over the land.

Zach smiled and ran over to his bed where he had left his cloths the night before. He pulled on his thick ox-hide pants and put on his black sleeveless wool shirt. He made sure he looked ok in his mirror then he made his way outside. Zach lived in the small barn that was on Len's land next to his forge. Len's house was small and only had one bed. When Zach had turned five Len decided to move him into the old barn after fixing it up. That way they both had more privacy.

Zach made his way to the forge pulling on thick leather gloves and a leather apron as he made his way inside. Len's thick muscled body was already hunched over a large anvil where he was examining a round shield. He stood up straight, pulled back the thick arm that held his hammer, and then brought it down onto the shield. The shield let out a loud clang as Len continued to hammer it over and over moving the metal outward. When he was done he placed the shield in a bucket of water which let off a loud hiss as steam rose.

"Len you're working early today." Said Zach walking over to him

"Aye, how do you expect me to be making money if I'm not working. You should take that to heart boy." Said Len

"Don't get snippy with me old timer you're lucky you even have me to help you." Said Zach with a smile

"Don't go grinning at me like that boy. You're lucky you have a place to sleep. If it wasn't for me you would have died in the woods where I found yeah." Said Len letting a small grin come to his face as well

"Now that's more like it a smile from the grumpy old dog." Said Zach "So what do you have for me to do today?"

"Not much but I did finish up that new sword for his majesty's son. The prince will be named lord of the northern land tomorrow and I need to have it to the king today." Said Len

"So what does that have to do with me?" said Zach

"I still have to much work to do today so you'll be taking it to the castle." Said Len as he picked up a chain mail gantlet to examine it

Zach got angry at this and said "What but they won't let me near the castle your always the one that brings the king his armor and weapons."

"Yes I do but I can't this time. The king needs his sword for his son and I have too much work to do and I don't trust you to do it right so you'll make the delivery." Said Len letting his voice rise up

Zach looked at the Great Dane standing in front of him at seven feet five inches tall. Zach hated that he was powerless compared to Len. He may have been old but he could still fight like he was twenty. Zach knew this first hand because since he was a boy Len had taught him how to fight with a sword. Len know the king didn't allow this but Len didn't care, he said it was a good way to teach discipline. Even with Len's peg leg he could still bring Zach down eight out of ten times.

"Fine I'll do it but if I get killed by a guard for something I'm blaming you." Said Zach

"Just as long as ya don't haunt me, I put up with enough of your bullshit now. Also you have to give the sword to the king in person so don't just hand it over to anyone." Said Len picking up a beautiful hand and half sword that was beautifully decorated

"Fine then I'll be off now then. The castle is on the other side of the city." Said Zach taking the sword "I'll be back by dinner I think."

"Fine with me just don't be getting into any trouble. I don't feel like going down to the jails like last time having to listen to stories how you got in to a fight with a noble." Said Len

Zach wanted nothing more than to argue back but he knew it wasn't worth it so he walked out of the forge strapping the sword to his body. Zach headed right for town saying hi to a fur or two as he walked down the dusty road that was covered in tracks from carts and foot prints. Zach liked this part of town where not many people lived and everyone knew him. When he got down town however it all changed.

The main part of town was mostly shops and people shopping. People passed through Maybell on their way north or to see the king all the time. Maybell was the main city of the Raseri Kingdom so it was by far one of the larger cities. Furs in this part of town weren't too nice to him, they could tell by the way he looked and by his scent that he was a half blood. Most furs in didn't mind a half blood but when one half was wolf it all changed. Wolves weren't liked animals in this land due to the strange ways they lived - they seemed to have some kind of power. To be even half wolf was almost a born crime around here.

The king had let Len keep Zach because he was a nice fur but it still stopped him from doing the one thing he had always wanted to do and that was to become a Knight. Also if he had the chance he wanted to become one of the king's twelve who were more commonly called The Royal Solders. All twelve were the best fighters in the land and each had a special move that made them stand out. But since he was half wolf he couldn't become a Knight.

As he walked through town people started to call out things like "Dirty blood, half breed, Howler, and two tailed." But he ignored them all as he made his way to the center of town that had large steps that lead up to a large gate that locked him and everyone else out of the castle. This wasn't like most castles you hear about with a draw bridge no this castle was surrounded by its city. Maybell had never had an attack on it that succeeded due to the way the city was built.

Zach looked up the long steps that lead to the gate wishing he didn't have to do this himself. He was about to start upwards when someone ran into him knocking him to the ground. Zach sat up to see who had run into him when his eye's fell on to a Female Canine the he couldn't immediately identify.

She looked shocked and frightened as she looked at Zach and said "I'm so sorry sir."

Zach got to his feet and said "It's ok." He helped her up "You should really watch where you're going you could get hurt."

She had long black hair and a light grey furred body. Here eyes were a golden yellow, she wore a simple light dress that showed a little too much chest but that didn't bother Zach. She smiled at him and said "I was running away from some furs, that's why I didn't see you."

Two husky's came round the corner of a house then and yelled "There she is get her."

"Shit, they found me!" said the female getting behind Zach

"Don't worry I'll stop them." Said Zach and as they came up to him he said to the one who looked like the leader of the two "What's the problem."

"This female here is our property now; give her back immediately." Said the first husky

"I'm sorry but I thought the king stopped all slave trade." Said Zach

"He may have, but she is still ours. Now hand her over." Said the second

"Sorry, but no." said Zach

The two husky's attacked but Zach was too fast for them, He dodged the first punch and ducked under the second. Zach twisted around lifting a leg and kicking the second husky in the back of the head knocking him out. The first husky attacked again but Zach took him out with a well aimed blow to the jaw. Once they stopped moving, he moved them off the street and set them next to a clay house.

"Thank you sir." Said the female

"I couldn't let them do something like that."

"My names Mary by the way." said the female

Right then he recognized her voice from his dream and he said "I know you."

"Do you...I don't know you what's your name." said Mary

"Zach."

She looked shocked for only a split second then she said "Sorry don't know you Zach, I'm grateful for you saving me. I'm not supposed to be in town so I'll be on my way now." Then she turned to leave

Zach wasn't sure what to say but "Sure thing sorry for the misunderstanding." But he didn't know why he felt so strange. The name and voice matched, but then a small scent wafted toward him from Mary as she dashed away. It was a scent he knew all too well because he had a similar scent. As he watched her dash out of sight he knew he had just met a full blooded wolf. How she got in to the city and walked around freely, Zach had no clue. But he forgot about it when he remembered what he still had to do.

Zach looked back toward the castle and said "Shit I forgot I need to get this to the king at once or Len will have my head." And he started to run up the stairs forgetting about the wolf fur in his rush

He made it to the gate panting hard from the long steep stairway. One of the guards looked at him with disgust and said "What do you want Peasant?"

Zach took a moment to catch his breath before he said "My name is Zach apprentice to the black smith Len. I have a sword for the third son of his majesty, fresh from the forge."

"Ok then hand it over and I'll make sure it's given to him." Said the Guard

"Sorry can't do that. I was instructed to hand it over only to the king himself." Said Zach

"No one is allowed to see the king. A ruddy little brat like you should know that now give me that sword and be on your way." said the Guard

"No. I have my orders." Said Zach backing up a few feet from the guard as he reached for the sword

"What seems to be the problem here." Said a tall Germen Shepherd dressed in the finest armor Zach had ever seen

"This brat has the new sword for the young prince but he won't hand it over." Said the guard

"Is this true." Said the Sheppard glaring down at Zach through the large gate

"Sorry sir but my mentor Len told me to only hand it over to the king." Said Zach

The Shepherd brightened up at once as he said "Len's boy you should have said something. We thought he would be coming down but he told us about his young Halfling living with him. The names Collin, I'm the Captain of the court guard. Come on in so you can make your delivery."

Zach smiled as he passed by the guard who looked ready to kill and he followed Captain Collin as he made his way across the huge courtyard and into the castle. Zach passed many halls and wonderful works of art as the captain lead him down hallway after hallway. Zach hadn't ever been in anything this big and he wondered how it all stayed so clean. He didn't have time to think more about it however, because Captain Collin opened a large black door and walked into the throne room.

Sitting on the massive throne was King Esper. The king was a tall powerful looking Akita with black fur on his back and white on his front. His eyes were blue and they looked mean and kind at the same time. He was powerfully built and looked like he could kill them all with a single move. Despite all that King Esper had a kind smile on his face.

Captain Collin and Zach stopped at the foot of the throne and the captain said with his head bowed "Your Majesty, The blacksmith Len has finished your son's new sword and his apprentice has come to hand it over to you."

"Rise the two of you." Said King "What is your name lad?"

"I am called Zach your Majesty." Said Zach bowing again

The king laughed and said "Don't need to call me Majesty after everything you say Zach. I'm a kind king and I don't like too much formalities. Tell me what the name Len has given this sword is?"

Zach looked shocked and said "Name...He has not named it."

"That I don't believe he has always named the new sword for my court." Said the King pulling out a large double-handed sword "This is the first sword he ever made me and he named it Blood Biter. Every time I get a new sword he names it." said the King

Zach looked at Blood Biter in fear. He knew that sword well and how it helped the king win his rule over the Kingdom of Raseri. He never knew Len had made it or named it. After a moment passed Zach found his voice however and said "He told me no name but I could run back and make sure I didn't miss anything."

"Funny he never forgets this...if he didn't name it then maybe he wants you to. Perhaps that's why he had you bring it and not himself." Said the King

"Your Majesty you're joking...Why would he have a boy named the sword?" said Captain Collin

So he was now a boy...well what could Zach expect from a noble. He sighed and said "He may be right."

The King smiled and said "Captain Collin don't speak ill of anyone that I like when you're around me. This boy may have potential you know. Len knows his stuff; he was the captain before you Collin. I think he sent young Zach here to show me how well he can fight and to name the sword. If he's good we could put him in training to be a knight."

"It can't be done." Said Zach looking down at the ground

"And why not." Said the King

"I don't mean any disrespect my lord but I'm half wolf ; we aren't allowed to be Knights." Said Zach

"I'm the king boy so don't think I can't make an exception. Let's see now if you can beat my two best knights in combat then I'll allow it."

"But I don't have a sword of my own." Said Zach

"Use the one Len gave you...you'll come up with a name better that way." said the King then he turned and said "Ken...Lynn, You two fight Zach just don't kill him. I don't want that on my mind today. Good Luck Zach."

Zach didn't like how this was going as two Knights dressed in red tunics walked forward drawing their swords. One was a tall male Red Fox that wasn't powerfully built but looked quick. The second was a beautiful female black panther. The two held their broad swords ready as they advanced. Zach had fought one on one with Len before but he was missing a leg. He may have been good on that peg leg but still this was two young fully trained knights.

Zach knew he had to do what he was told or the King could put him in the dungeon. He placed a hand on the hilt of the prince's sword and got into a fighting stance Len had showed him. Zach left the sword in its sheath as he waited for the two to attack. Ken did first followed shortly by Lynn, Zach jumped forward pulling the sword out of its sheath and blocking Ken's attack. He parried the blow and twisted around dodging Lynn's attack. She over did it and fell to the ground but Ken came at Zach again as his partner went down.

Zach parried another blow then kicked Ken in the gut making him fall to the ground gasping for air. Lynn was up again and she attacked swinging her sword wildly toward Zach and moving so fast he couldn't keep up. She twisted and dodged like a leaf in the wind and Zach couldn't land a hit. Ken was up again and he started attacking too making it almost impossible for Zach to land a blow. His fear rose then the he felt something run through his body. It was the same kind of feeling you get when you fall down something without warning. As the feeling got greater something strange happened, Ken and Lynn seemed to slow down for only a moment. Within that moment Zach could see the openings in their attacks and he took his chance.

"I'm not sure but what does that have to do with my last name."

"I have only seen that quick attack move once and the wolf who used it was powerful. Try asking Len about it, if he gets mad like I know he will then tell him the king said to tell you whatever he knows." Said King Esper

"I'll do that sir." Said Zach

"Good...Ken and Lynn you may return to your post now." Said the king waiting until the two left and only the captain and Zach was left before he said "So Zach what of a name for the blade."

Zach smiled and said "Quick Bite."

"Well now that I've done what is needed I'll be going now." Said Zach

"Wait a moment Zach." Said the king

"If I wasn't sure, I wouldn't tell you to do it." said the king, Collin bowed and walked out. Once he was gone the king said "Zach I was impressed with you today. I know you didn't fight much but you don't have the right training yet. I would like to grant you an offer to join the training program to become a knight."

"I am Zach I think you would be an excellent addition to my kingdom's army. As you know the Knights are thought highly of and I bet you would like a little better reputation. No one is allowed to say anything bad to a knight of my kingdom."

"But what about the law...I tried to join the program years ago but I was rejected due to my birth."

"The law is something that was made when I was not king and even though I agree with it I don't think it should stop you from joining. The reason the last king my father made that law was because most hybrids are like the wolves and they make a lot of problems for us. You have been raised in my kingdom and by a very good fur. Len was one of my father's best knights and since you are like a son of his I trust you fully." Said the king

Zach bowed and said "Thank you my lord and I would be honored to join."

"I'm glad to hear that. Training starts next week in Nico. It will take you about six months to finish so make sure you have all of your affairs in order before you leave." Said King Esper

"Thank you my lord." Said Zach bowing again

"Now then why don't you hand over Quick Bite and be on your way I'm sure Len would like to hear what happened today."

Zach handed over the sword and bowed once more before heading out of the throne room. He bumped into Captain Collin who was waiting right outside the throne room. Zach bowed and said "Sorry sir I wasn't watching where I was going."

"It's ok Zach...I was listening in on your conversation with the king. I have to say you lucky he let you join up." Said Collin

"Thank you sir."

"Stop thanking me you can do that when you're knighted. Only a few make it through the program fully. The ones that don't become soldiers, if you make it farther than that and get knighted then you can thank me." said Collin

"Why do you say that Captain?"

He smiled and said "I'm the one who is training this year. I'll see you in a week." And with that The Captain walked back into the throne room.

Zach was a little scared at the prospect of having Captain Collin training him but he shrugged it off and made his way out of the castle. He cheered up quickly as he started to walk through town and back toward Len's forge. The one thing in life that would make him a somebody had happened and he couldn't help getting excited at the idea.

"He can't know who he really is not yet anyway. We'll have him be given the name his mother named him but that will be the only lead to who he is. One day he will be needed and that name will help us find him." Said Raven

"I understand. Please don't get killed Raven you are needed just as much as this boy." Said Mary

"I'll never let anyone kill me until that monster is killed." Said Raven then everything stopped...

Zach woke up again from the dream. It was different this time but still he only heard the two voices of Raven and Mary but no face. He then realized that he was on his back and someone was wiping his sweating head with a rag. He looked up and saw the female wolf who he had helped before. He got up quick and tried to back away but his body screamed in pain and he feel to the ground.

"Don't get up so fast Zach you just used a lot of energy." Said Mary the wolf

"Who are you...I have heard your voice and name before in my dreams." Said Zach

"I'll explain it all soon Zach but we need to be leaving this place at once."

"Why." Said Zach and she pointed to a spot over his shoulder and he turned around. He almost threw up as he turned and saw Ken's body ripped to pieces and thrown all over the woods. Blood filled the air and everything around him and it was almost too much. Zach turned around and said "What happened?"

"You killed him...Lynn ran off in fright and I'm afraid she'll bring back someone. We'll need to start walking you home." Said Mary

"But if I did the then what don't I remember it and if she saw me who cares if I go home they will kill me for this." Said Zach

"She couldn't see what happened she only saw the flash then saw him ripped apart and she ran if fright. Now come on and follow me now." Said Mary

Zach still wanted to know more but he did as he was told and slowly got to his feet then started to follow her as she walked. When they had gotten a little farther away he said "How did I do that?"

"It was a reflex that saved your life. Ken wanted to kill you and your body wouldn't allow it. There is much you don't know about yourself, Zach." Said Mary

"So then tell me."

"I can't It's not my place."

"Then who's is it Raven's?"

She stopped and said "How did you know that name?"

"I've had the same dream about someone named Raven and Mary for many years. I don't know much about it but it is always in during an attack. I know your name is Mary and that you have the same voice."

"How could you remember something like that...You were only a baby when I..." said Mary but then she stopped and said "No I can't say...You have much to do and not much time to do it in. Go home and get ready to leave for your training. What happened tonight won't be heard about from anyone."

"No you're not getting away from me that easily."

"Sorry but it's not the time to be talking about this I promise one day you'll know everything." And with that she vanished

"Wait! Come back! I wanted to know more! Don't leave!" Yelled Zach but it was no use. He soon gave up yelling and he started to walk back to Len's place

He only hoped that this would all be just a bad dream when he woke up the next day. But he that didn't happen, Zach woke up with his ass in pain and his fur sticky with old cum. He got up and washed then walked over to the house where Len was sitting. Whatever had happened last night was all true and he needed answers and since Len had been talked about in his dream he knew he could start with him.

"You're up later than your normal boy, why is that?"

"Sorry sir was out late last night."

"I know that! Tell me, how did your day go with the king?"

"He made me fight two knights and let me into the training program."

Len smiled at that and said "And you wanted me to bring that sword to the king."

"Did you know this would happen, old man?" said Zach getting angry

"No but the king said he would be honored to meet you the last time I was out there. We talked about the law with the knights and hybrid thing and he told me he would test you. I had a feeling this could happen I'm proud of you my boy." Said Len

Zach didn't smile back at Len as he said "That's the problem Len I'm not your boy... I want to know what you now of my parents."

Len's eye's flashed and he said "I know nothing of them."

"Then how do you know Mary and Raven."

Len's eyes went blank as he said "How do you know them."

"I had a dream about them and they said they would bring a child to a black smith in Maybell named Len. Know anyone else that fits that description."

"It was only a dream Lad don't get to worried about it. There is no Mary or Raven that I know." Said Len

"Then why did I meet Mary and I killed a knight how attacked me last night. You may want to let me know what's happening before this gets worse, Len." Said Zach

Len looked shocked then he said "Sit."

Zach was still filled with anger but he sat down and said "What am I?"

Len sighed and said "Zach it's time I told you the truth about how you came to live with me..."
