#19 of After the Storm

Okay, this is the shortest chapter I've made yet (i think) but hey, this is what other authors do! :D

Anywho, next chapter of my series. Please enjoy. :)

NOTE: This chapter was actually longer originally, but I decided to use the other half for the next chapter.

NOTENOTE: Still feeling a bit uncreative with the description, so sorry about that.

"Are you feeling better a bit now?" Jason asked, supporting his partner, Charlie, as they made their way through the destruction ahead of them. They braved fires, blistering hot terrain and weaved past boulders and burnt logs that were thrown there by the recent explosion.

The Charmander let out a grunt and reposition his arm around Jason's shoulder. "I'm alright... it's just the blood loss keeping me dizzy." He said, managing a slight chuckle. "Don't suppose your aura can replenish blood... can it?"

The Riolu smiled and closed his eyes as he shook his head. "My mom can do that, but I don't know how to heal others with my aura just yet."

"What are you talking... about...?" The Charmander asked, panting as the dizziness gripped his head once more. He took a deep breath and gathered his senses, then proceeded. "You were able to heal my injury weren't you?"

"I was?"

"Yes!"

The Riolu stopped for a while, forcing the Charmander to a halt as well. "Now that you mention in... I did manage to do that now did I?"

"Don't tell me you forgot already..." Charlie mumbled, tilting his head with a rather disappointed tone. He was about to face forward when something caught his attention. Somewhere a few feet to their left, a sight the Charmander never thought he'd see: Jason's bloodied, severed arm. "Would you like more evidence of your healing abilities? Look to your left."

Jason didn't know what he was talking about and did as was told. At first he had difficulty looking for but the distinct red spot on the dirt caught his attention. At first he didn't recognize what it was, but his eyes widened in surprise and horror as he did. "Is that... an arm?"

The Charmander nodded in response. "Not JUST an arm, that's YOUR arm. The steel target was blasted away by the explosion and it must've crashed into you, severing your left arm. When I went over to help you..." He hesitated revealing whatever it was that possessed Jason, remember Aiden's request to keep it a secret. "When I went over to help you, your aura had thrown away the steel shard and made you a new arm. That was when you woke up and helped me."

"I see..." Jason sounded rather nonchalant with the revelation, but the Charmander didn't have the energy to feel surprised about it. "Now that you mention it, I do remember now... although I was half asleep throughout the experience."

"Can you remember how to do it?" The Charmander asked. "I could really use an invigorate or something right now... and if you can regrow limbs like new, you can at least--"

Before the Charmander finished his sentence, Jason raised his hand to stop Charlie's sentence there. "I know, I know, let me see what I can do." he slowly guided the Charmander over to a bounder and let him sit there. He then placed his hands on the Charmander's chest, closed his eyes and breathed deeply. Before doing anything though, he let out a soft chuckle of amusement. Although his eyes were closed, he could feel that the Charmander was flustered. Charlie wasn't one for this type of man-to-man contact. "Heh, don't get too excited..." Jason teased to which the Charmander responded with an uncomfortable groan.

The Riolu's smug expression soon melted into calmness. He tried to remember how he first managed to pull it off: what subconsciously went on in his mind, the sensations he felt, how his muscles moved and the flow of his aura. It was all tedious and complicated for the young Riolu, but he did his best to find the right part of his brain to tick. "Alright... here I go..." he breathed in and slowly breathed out as a light blue colored aura began coating his hands.

At first the Charmander didn't feel any different. If anything, he felt the aura push against his chest as though it was solid. Then again, that's how combat-based aura is supposed to be. It's supposed to serve its wielder for battle, therefore taking on a solid affinity. It's supposed to be worn as armor, a shield and a weapon, and the Charmander was afraid that Jason would end up smashing his ribs instead of patching him up. However, he didn't make a sound. He was afraid that things would go from bad to worse if he broke the Riolu's concentration.

Jason's breathing slowed, almost as though he was in a trance. He tried his best manipulate the affinity of his aura. He could remember the teachings of his mother, how she explained the abilities of the aura. Sadly, however, his mother wasn't able to start training Jason in the use of the aura's rare ability of healing. The aura, in contrast with a psychic type's psionic ability, is born of the fighting spirit, a warrior's determination. For centuries it has only been used for the purpose of combat, the usual solid energy used to injure the opponent.

Soon, it was used for yet another purpose: analysis. The Lucarios have studied how the psychic types work and managed to evolve the use of the aura for analytical purposes. However, that ability wasn't necessarily new. Even as a Riolu they were able to sense the emotions of the people around them. That ability evolved into mind reading, and soon, full body analysis, with the help of a Lucario's mastery of the aura.

Sometime later, a Lucario managed to further evolve the use of the aura for healing purposes. They managed to heal themselves using this energy; from healing wounds, to restoration of lost cells and even elimination of toxins. That ability soon evolved into healing others, having their aura transfer from their bodies onto another's. This ability, though useful, advantageous and high-on-demand it is, it is a very rare ability as the aura's original intention was to put the hurt on the enemies.

As luck would have it, Jason's mother comes from a line of Lucario's who happen to have ease with manipulating the purpose of their aura. Apparently, that's why Jason was quite proficient with his analysis. However, considering Jason hasn't really exhibited my combat-aura prowess due to his preference in using his fire affinity, it's still uncertain whether Jason inherited his mother's ability to manipulate his aura. But since Charlie claims that Jason was able to regrow his own arm using his aura, it's worth a shot.

"You know what, I'm sorry..." Jason let out a sigh as his aura dissipated. "I just... don't know how to do this yet. Look, it's best we keep moving. Either we head over to the source of the explosion, or I bring you to the medics, your choice."

The Charmander hoped that the Riolu would've been able to do it. Then again, remembering how it was a different person inside Jason that was able to do it, he should've at least expected that Jason would have difficulty with it at first. "All right, let's go see what caused the blast."
