#5 of War tails of the white wolf

Hey chapter 5 is up now...after some damn computer failures. Tell me what you think and please vote.

_____________________________________________________________________________

"Hey I think we should get out of here." Vincent said once the noise of the explosion and flames died down.

"Yeah...with such a huge explosion, the enemy will be coming shortly." Tommy said.

"Ok then. This is the way we have to go if we want to reach the LZ." Neal said as he started heading into the jungle.

They all started leaving, Lliam stopped and looked back at the flames as people who survived the explosion started running about while on fire; screaming in pain and agony. Lliam just watched as the ones who were standing dropped to the ground and burned. Then a stray thought crossed his mind "Serves you right, bastards." a part of Lliam actually enjoyed watching them burn, and he couldn't explain why.

Lliam shook his head at the thought then ran in the direction the others had left in. A few seconds later he found them making their way through the jungle.

"Yo Lliam, why'd you stop?" Dan asked as Lliam ran up beside him with a confused look on his face.

"I'm not sure." Lliam said as he walked behind them.

"You ok?" Nate asked after he looked back and saw the look on Lliam's face.

"Huh...oh yeah." Lliam said, somewhat distracted.

"Why do I keep having these strange feelings?" Lliam said in his head not paying attention to what he did; luckily his feet managed to walk without tripping on anything. He let out a sigh of frustration just before they all stopped as enemy search craft flew overhead.

"Jeez, those flyboys are goin to complicate things." Vincent said as they all hid under cover.

"Well we did give them a pretty big explosion to watch from up there." Dan said, and then laughed with everyone.

"You know that pissed them off." Nate said.

"Yeah...and all the more reason for them to find us." Lliam said as he blindly looked up.

"Joy kill!" Tommy said to him.

Lliam let out another sigh then said "Sorry for being the joy killer but we need to get going. If them flyboys are already here, then what about the ground forces?"

"Good point Lliam, now everyone" Neal said calmly then yelled "Get your ass's movin!"

"Yes Sir!" They all said and started off again.

***************

"Sir, the Darwin just set up a temporary GPS satellite in orbit around the planet." A human solder said to Rrahkarr; back at the LZ inside a hastily set up mobile HQ.

"Thank you Private, you may return to your duties." He said as walked over to a monitor on a desk.

He started typing something on it, and then a screen appeared on it that showed a map of the area. He then typed in his unit name and number; which brought up five blips on the screen near the LZ and four blips in between the LZ and were that explosion was the night before.

"Captain Sutarra!" A new voice said from behind Rrahkarr.

"Yes what is it?" He said, not bothering to see who it was.

"New information, it appears that the explosion from last night also destroyed a substation that fed power to the enemies' entire air defense grid in the area around the research facility. We can now begin the extraction of the researchers with out worry of it." The head of the mobile HQ told him.

Sensing a familiarity from this person Rrahkarr turned to see who it was. He was surprised of who it was but remained calm as he said "Ah thank you Captain Grimm."

"Will you be participating in the operation?" Captain Grimm asked.

"When will it start?" Rrahkarr asked.

"At 1330 hours tomorrow afternoon, we will be leaving at 0400 hours tomorrow morning." He told him.

"Yes...by the looks of the GPS my other four men will arrive here today at 1550 hours...with few delays added in, best time 1000 hours this morning" Rrahkarr said to the other Captain; it being 0500 hours.

"Good, it will increase the men's moral knowing that Echo Squad will be participating in the evac." Captain Grimm said as he turned and started to leave before stopping and adding. "We were told to let you know to be expecting a freelancer known as Delta."

"Huh?! He's going to be here?" He said then thought for a second before saying "Thank you for letting me know, it's always better to know he's coming before he gets here."

"Of course...he was supposed to already be hear yesterday, his craft may have been shot down." He added as he left.

"Delta? What are you doing here, and why the hell did you let yourself get shot down?" Rrahkarr said to himself, amused, as he started to pull up another screen on the monitor, one that showed details on missions posted for freelancers for this area.

About ten minuets later and searching through the database he found nothing that would pay a freelancer to come here. He let out a sigh then said "You're not being paid to be here...what the hell are you up to?"

*************

Echo managed to avoid a few enemy patrols but they were increasing their efforts, echo had to take longer paths around some patrols so they wouldn't get caught. They found an area that wasn't being watched by the enemy; a little secluded area that they found by accident.

"Damn those patrols. They're getting bothersome." Neal said as he rested against a tree.

"Yeah I agree...it's taking to long to get to the LZ." Vincent said, leaning against another tree close to Neal.

Lliam and the other three were sitting opposite of Neal and Vincent. Lliam was in a depressed state that the other three were trying to get rid of.

"Come on Lliam what's up...why are you so depressed?" Nate asked again.

Lliam let out a sigh then looked at him "I keep feeling strange feelings and emotions when bad things happen. I feel like I'm turning cold." He said then put his hand to his chest "In here." He finished.

"Well we are solders after all, it could be that your just getting immune to death faster then normal." Neal said, then took a chug of water from a canteen he had.

"That could be...he's been through a lot in his life, not just from the war but...well you know Neal." Dan said.

"What?" Tommy asked.

"That's something you should ask Lliam...it's something rather personal and painful for him." Nate told him.

"Everyone in my family besides myself, my older brother and little sister, were killed in an attack by those damned Humanitists ten years ago." Lliam said, surprised that it didn't bother him that much anymore.

Nate looked surprised for a moment then said "Well there you have it...you ok Lliam?"

"Yeah...surprisingly that didn't affect me as much as it use to. Maybe because I've talked about it with you before a couple of times." Lliam said as he leaned his head back against a tree only to have a hand grab him by his throat followed by a knife on his jugular.

"Lliam!" everyone yelled.

************

He had been shot down by the damned I.F.H.W, walked through the jungle; killing anyone he found along the way and anything that attacked him, he was pissed and yet he looked calm...too calm.

He had heard voices nearby and decided to check it out. When he could see some people he realized they were humans. The look of pure calmness on his face never left as he grabbed at the person who was right next to him and put a knife to his throat and was about to slice it open but stopped. Something felt wrong; this throat had fur all over it. He heard them all yell out the person's name which was familiar to him.

He held the person in front of him as he walked into the clearing. The throat he almost slit was that of a young white wolf, and not any normal white wolf but an albino; slightly brown from dirt and dust. His eyes darted over and saw three others furs, two fox's and a coyote and two humans. The two fox's and one of the humans; he noticed, wore a power suit with a familiar name on it, Echo. He looked at the wolf he was holding and noticed he was wearing the same thing.

Curiosity peeked a little; he grabbed the wolf's dog tags and brought them up so he could read what they said.

************

The moment after they called out Lliam's name the person who had grabbed him walked out into view.

He was a five foot ten inch tall human, who had short brown buzz cut styled hair that was a little grown out. He was lean but muscular, and had hazel colored eyes that darted to and fro while he sized everyone up. The main thing everyone noticed was all the small minuet cuts that ran from the back of his hands all the way up his arms and possibly further under the sleeves of the suit he wore.

They didn't say a thing; fearing that if they did he'd kill their friend, as he sized them up. He then got a curious look on his calm face as he grabbed Lliam's dog tags. His eyes widened for just a moment as he read them. He then brought his knife down and loosened his grip on Lliam's throat.

Then in an eerily calm voice he asked "Are you three apart of Captain Sutarra's Echo Squad?" To Nate, Dan, and Neal.

They quickly nodded absentmindedly at the question as he completely let go of Lliam; who started coughing as he grabbed at his throat, then said "Sorry William Sutarra, I thought you were all humans at first and with the I.F.H.W. bastards."

"Who are you?" Neal immediately ordered.

"Hmm...I guess you don't know who I am." He said as he looked at Lliam who was still coughing "I know his brother Rrahkarr." Then he looked at Neal with a calm face which seemed to never disappear and said in a calmly yet acidic voice "I'll tell you who I am rather then kill you for ordering anything from me." This put chills down the spines of everyone present.

"I am Freelancer Delta...I will not tell you my real name, only two are privileged to know it." He then stopped and thought for a second then said "Excuse me, three."

The moment he said Freelancer Delta, all of there jaws dropped. Right in front of them was a man who clamed to be thirty five but showed up in many wars as far back as two hundred years ago; although there has been no proof to it being this particular person although the name Delta had been used by not just a few fitting his description throughout the years.

When he partially got his breath back Lliam looked back to see who nearly crushed his windpipe and slit his throat. The blood flow to his brain had slowed considerably when this person grabbed his throat and his hearing had nearly flow out the window as did his sight which slowly went black, but was now slowly returning.

Lliam couldn't hear what the others had asked this person but the calm look on his face never left. It was as if he had no emotion at all. He could have killed him right when he grabbed him but Lliam noticed that he didn't have any protective gloves on and that is what may have saved him.

His hearing came back right when Neal said in a shaky voice "You-you're...D-Delta?! Freelancer Delta! What are you d-doing here?"

Delta looked at him but did not smile or do anything but said in his calm eerie voice "Yes I am, and I'm here to see Captain Sutarra but was shot down yesterday." He stopped and looked again at Lliam then again at Neal and said "Now what are YOU doing here?"

"Us...ah...we..." Neal said as he fumbled his words.

"We...were on...our way to...the LZ. When...we were shot down." Lliam said as he slowly got up, still trying to get his breath back.

"So you've been trying to get to the LZ, since we have the same goal I'm taking command of you and you'll do as I say is that understood?" He said in a commanding yet calm voice.

"Yes sir" They said.

"Good, if you didn't I would have gutted each and every one of you who didn't agree...of course I would kill you, I'd let you bleed to death." He said which put chills down everyone's spine.

******

Freelancers like Delta get full support from anyone they ask, it's just a given. Freelancers have usually been trained in all the Special Forces and even the Black Op forces. They are usually the best at what they do or are extremely skilled. Delta on the other hand...has an uncanny love of the battlefield. He is so calm when he kills his enemy; not just kill but butcher them, which doesn't even accelerate his heart rate. Hell his allies are even scared of him. He always is victorious in battle, not only from natural skills but from his enhanced skills he gained from experimentation.

A while back it wasn't unusual for humans and furs to go and willingly get experimented on. They had genetic modifications and such but survival rates were insanely low; they would have a survival percentage of about 0.5%, and yet people would go and get such genetic modifications. They are still preformed today but not by any licensed doctor or scientist.

Genetic modification was outlawed by the A.T.W.F after several incidents caused by G.M.P's (Genetically Modified Person) resulting in damaged government property as well as a major loss of life in a couple of events, the most tragic was back a hundred years ago when starships were run on nuclear power which was formed from ten small nuclear reactors inside the ships which were all compressed to a fraction of the size of normal ones.

The C.S.F. Zorn; one of the A.T.W.F's Capital Flagships, Battleship class, at the time, was destroyed by G.M.P's Unknown in the Atmosphere of Zu'Nara; a planet similar in everyway to Earth other then it's larger size and larger population of twenty billion. Zu'Nara was the home world of the enemy that the A.T.W.F. was currently at war with. The Zorn was at a critical altitude where, when the ships nuclear reactors exploded the resulting radiation was carried by the planets air currents all around the globe, killing all life in an instant and making the planet it self...uninhabitable.

A hero died that day as well, a person who had fought off many enemy forces and protected many A.T.W.F. civilians and solders. His name was Tro'nen C. Wilson, an artic wolf of about thirty three. He was killed in action while trying to defend the Zorn from G.M.P. actions, which was the official report anyway...

******

Delta herded them towards the LZ, armed with a couple short range weapons and knives. They had come across a patrol and were getting ready to let them pass, but Delta who was brining up the rear just kept walking right into plain view of the patrol. Eight enemies had surrounded him and had their weapons drawn and pointed at him.

He glanced at his left, then his right, and then looked down and sighed. The others were about to attack them but Delta just pulled out his knife and for a split second...disappeared. Not a half second later he reappeared right where he was standing. All the men around him dropped there firearms as blood shot out from there throats; each wound caused by a knife, and all eight of them fell to the ground simultaneously, dead before they hit the ground.

When Delta turned around he saw they all had there mouths wide open in surprised shock. He sighed then yelled "Come on...you are all trained solders, do I have to baby sit you?!" which snapped them out of there shock.

It was 1345 hours; forty minuets later, everyone was speculating on how he had done what they just saw him do. This lasted about ten more minuets before he stopped; crouched down as he raised his fist, then brought his weapon to the ready. They all immediately went on high alert and did the same as him...if something made this man stop, they knew it wasn't good.

Neal slowly approached Delta as he crouched behind the tree in front of him; looking through the leaves and limbs as he scanned the area ahead of them. Lliam was right behind Delta so he overheard what the two of them said.

"What's out there Delta?" Neal said as he looked at Deltas face; which for the first time since they met had emotion on it...anger.

"I don't know, but this is a research facility testing ground. What ever they were...researching, whether it be normal weapons or biological ones...most likely the latter of the two is somewhere ahead of us and is stalking us." He said to Neal's...and Lliam's...surprise.

They waited for a while...thankfully and unhelpfully the wind was coming from a neutral direction; giving aid to no one at this particular time. It was 1412 hours before the wind changed and revealed to anyone who could smell it that whatever was out there, was gone...for the time being.

After sniffing the wind Lliam took a deep breath and said "Delta...I can't pick up the scent of whatever it was. I think it's safe to continue."

Delta looked at him for a moment like he was going to say something but just nodded his head and signaled for them to move. A little while later they were far away from that part of the jungle and the others grew a little bold to ask a question that was bugging them.

"Delta...ah Sir, may we ask you a question...if you don't mind?" Nate said but he suddenly wished he didn't when Delta looked back at him.

"Yeah, take five everyone."

"Thank you Sir...what we all wanted to ask you was...how did you...ah, how did you do that back there? With the knife and that patrol?" Nate asked as everyone else looked at Delta awaiting an answer.

"That's a simple question to answer. I guess the easiest way to describe it is for me to say that I'm a G.M.P. yet that is too simple an answer. Let's make it not so simple by saying that I'm the only one who didn't go crazy...as much." He answered and with the wide eyed stare he got from the others he got up and continued.

They quickly followed him and guessed he was toying with them...but with this human, who knew, and didn't run into anyone...or thing, and continued until they stepped into a clearing and had guns pointed at them from multiple directions. The solders holding the weapons lowered them; but did not take them off them, when they noticed Lliam, Nate, Dan, and Tommy standing behind but with the three humans.

"State your names, and Squad call sign." One of the sergeants yelled at them and more particularly at Delta...only to have Delta grab him by the throat and lift him off the ground guns focused on him now.

"No one orders anything from me." He said then dropped him as he stated who he was "I'm Freelancer Delta...lower your weapons." He said and with such an icy glare he gave them most people nearly jumped out of there skin or fur. Mostly everyone there knew who he was and obeyed and the ones who didn't followed suit with the others.

"These four are from Echo Squad...and these other two were in the same ship. We're heading towards the LZ, is it close." Delta asked; in his eerily calm voice.

"Y-yes sir...its u-up and o-over there." A scared fur replied as he pointed up towards a Mobile HQ.

Delta grunted while he past by him followed by Echo Squad, the closer they got to the HQ the more frantic people looked as they rushed through what they were assigned to do. They all noticed the main tent where the Base commander should be and headed towards it.

**************

Rrahkarr had not bothered with the GPS since a few hours ago. He was busy doing some paperwork that he always held off till later. He sighed as he had to get this done before they headed towards the research facility further north.

A couple people stepped in as he worked. He half expected Neal, Lliam and the others to show up, but it was only Chris and Tina.

"Why so glum?" Tina asked as she sat on the table Rrahkarr was working at. His eyes glanced up to meet hers before falling back to the papers on the table.

"Damn paperwork." He said as he scratched off a couple of things on a checklist.

"Have you checked the GPS lately? Do you know how far they are from here?" Chris asked as he went over to the monitor.

"No I haven't...last time I checked they were still a ways off...about a couple hours ago." He said and let out another sigh. "I hate paperwork." He then looked up and looked like he had just been dumped.

"I think we need to get Dr. Morris down here, what do you think Chris?"

She didn't get an answer from him so she got off the table and walked over to him. He was busy looking at the GPS map so she silently crept up behind him and when she was maybe an inch away from him he turned so quick; catching her off guard, and picked her up by the waist and put her over his shoulder with her laughing then sat her back down onto the table.

"How do you always know I'm behind you?" She asked as he went back to the monitor.

"I don't know, I just do." He said when a grin crept onto his face "Hey look at this Tina." He said pointing at the screen.

"What?" She asked as she got back off the table and walked over to him.

When she saw what he was talking about she smiled as they both turned to face the entrance to the tent and watched as several people walked in...one of which made them take a second look because they had no idea who he was.

*************

Lliam, Neal, Nate and Dan bid farewell to Tommy and Vincent then caught up to Delta as he entered the main tent of the HQ.

Inside the tent was Chris and Tina who watched them enter, and Rrahkarr...buried in paperwork. Chris and Tina were studding Delta as he walked towards Rrahkarr and stopped right behind him.

Rrahkarr was so busy he didn't hear them come in but soon a couple familiar scents filled the room. The one he recognized first was his brothers, next were the twins and Neal...then one he hadn't smelled in twelve years. He already knew what was about to happen, let out a sigh and braced himself.

Delta raised his arms then slapped his hands down on Rrahkarr's shoulders raising a yelp out of him at the hard contact.

"How you doing pup?" Delta said to him as Rrahkarr rubbed his shoulders.

"Fine...I guess, damn it still hurts." Rrahkarr said as turned around and looked at Delta, he was about to give him the normal greeting but realized that would not go to well with everyone else in the tent with them he the looked at everyone and said "Ok Neal, Nate, Dan, Chris and Tina...would you please vacate the tent. We have a few classified matters to go over."

Everyone wasn't surprised and decided to leave including Lliam but he was stopped when Delta put his hand on his shoulder and shook his head. Once everyone was gone...and Rrahkarr checked to make sure they were no where near the tent he sighed, and then smiled.

"What are you doing here Murazar? I checked the job list and there are no jobs even close to this area of space for freelancers." Rrahkarr said as he walked up to Delta...Murazar, who held out his hand, which Rrahkarr shook as he smiled.

"What...cant I just drop by and say hello to a friend?" He said with a fake look of confusion.

Lliam watched his brother and Delta or Murazar talk casually, which just made him confused. Rrahkarr stepped over to Lliam and patted him on the shoulder getting his attention.

"I guess you've already met my little brother huh?"

"Met?!...talk about a week way of putting it." Lliam said as he looked at his brother, who just gave him a confused look.

"We didn't just casually meet..." Murazar said.

"You can say that again...he nearly killed me!" Lliam said.

"What?! What happened you two?" Rrahkarr asked, confused even more.

"I was pissed I saw humans and only humans...you know how I am. I grabbed him by the throat and put a knife to it but I felt fur around his neck and stopped." Murazar said in a calm voice, acting as if it were nothing.

"Yeah...I know how you are Murazar." Rrahkarr said and let out a sigh "But he doesn't..."

"Exactly I don't, and why are you calling him Murazar? He keeps saying to call him Delta...tell me what the hell is going on?" Lliam demanded.

Rrahkarr looked over to Murazar who just shrugged as he went over to a food replicator and ordered a soda.

"Ok...I'll tell you the quick version of it Lliam. This is Freelancer Murazar Dauthi, Codenamed Delta...the only person who can be called Delta that is. The reason we are acting like this is because he's a friend of our family. The last time he visited us was when you were eight...you might not remember him.

The reason he is how he is is because he's basically a G.M.P but the only one who survived so many experiments. Some of those experiments were age reversing and age slowing related, as well as others like performance enhancements like stamina, strength, speed...those kinds of things.

He's basically a walking, living biological weapon...relic" Rrahkarr stopped explaining at that word and looked over to Murazar who just gave him a look and said "Who's a relic?" then continued what he was doing.

Rrahkarr continued "...from over two hundred years ago. That's why he's so unnaturally calm.

Also don't tell anyone about that fact...are family is the only one that knows that and Murazar would like to keep it that way. He's also the sort that goes by the shoot first ask later...hmm better make that shoot first shoot later as well. That's why he grabbed you and almost killed you I'm guessing, or is there a piece of info I'm missing?" He finished.

"Yeah, I could only see two humans and hear other voices from beside me through the trees...I thought they were all humans." Murazar added in.

"Ok well that explains it for the most part at least." Rrahkarr said then smiled at Lliam whose muzzle was hanging open at what his brother just told him.

************

It is true...Freelancer Murazar Dauthi codenamed Delta was in wars from two hundred years ago. He had gone through many experiments and operations. His body is the only living proof of the best that genetic modification could present: Slower aging, longer living, enhanced abilities...he even went through operations to add a lightweight powerful metal know as God stone; named that because a sheet of it that was only a quarter inch thick was stronger then the hull of a starship the only downside to this metal was that it was the rarest in the universe and very costly, was around his entire skeleton...skull and all.

He is the best G.M.P solder in the universe. A secret organization inside the A.T.W.F. that made him tried to recreate the conditions that made him such a success. They created twelve G.M.P's that were like him in only one area; and just like him didn't go crazy, then they made a thirteenth who was a 100% match to Murazar, and also his closest friend...he performed his duties well, but something happened in his DNA that they did not predict.

Something went wrong that not only made him like Murazar, it also destroyed all emotion and rational thought after a period of time. This person went through several symptoms before he died which were as follows: Depression, Complete loss of emotions anger, fear, love, hate, etc, Frantic behavior, no friend or foe recognition, Insanity, Lust for battle, enhanced abilities far outweighing Murazar's, and finally Suicide.

They really cared that their experiment failed but were horrified to find out that before this person died, and after he had the modifications done...he had children. All of this could pass to them and they could do something similar to what he did; destroy the C.S.F. Zorn and kill over Twenty billion people in a day. Luckily someone planed ahead and had decided to create a counter gene that would suppress the modified genes in his DNA; it took a little modification before it could be injected into his family's bloodline. But since it only suppressed those genes they sent a messenger to someone who could watch over that family and make sure nothing like it happened again.

They had gone to Murazar and told him about what happened, then asked if he would watch over that family...he killed the person who had talked to him but agreed to watch them...in fact Murazar was the godfather of his friends children and had a personal stake in all of this.

He went to his friend's grave that day and made a promise "Tro'nen...my friend and partner, I swear on your grave if I find who did this...I'll kill them. I will watch your family for as long as I live and I pray to god that what happened to you never happens to one of them."

************

Lliam had sat down in a chair and started going over what his brother told him about this Murazar. He sat there for a few more minuets while Murazar and Rrahkarr talked. He looked up when Rrahkarr had asked Murazar if he wanted to help them infiltrate the Research facility that they would be attacking tomorrow.

"It's the reason why I'm here. I've had no contracts of late so I felt like doing a little fighting." Murazar said.

"So that's why you're here huh? Don't you get into enough fights wherever you go?" Rrahkarr asked as he drank down the last of a beverage he had gotten.

"Well yeah usually but lately no one's wanting to fight me."

"So now you have to search for battles huh?" Rrahkarr said and laughed.

Lliam got up and walked over to where they sat and then asked "What's going on tomorrow?"

"Well we're going to infiltrate the Research facility tomorrow once we get word from our scout team that was sent out." Rrahkarr said as Lliam took a seat next to them.

"Are we the only ones going in?" Lliam asked

"No, Alpha, what's left of Bravo, Charlie, and then a team from the Black Ops will be joining us...unfortunately it's a new team not as experienced as the best the Black Ops has to offer but their better then us, that's who will be joining in with us as we try infiltrate the facility as more ground forces attack from the other side." Rrahkarr explained to him.

"Hmm...I guess this means I also get to kill enemies and out class those members of the Black Ops...what fun!" Murazar said in a way that just makes you shiver.

"Don't make fools out of the rest of us while we're out there!" Rrahkarr said to Murazar.

Just then Albert and James walked in and stopped at attention. The atmosphere changed and Rrahkarr stood up and said "At ease, report."

James stepped forward and said "Sir, something has killed all but one member of the scout team that was investigating the Research facility."

"What!" Rrahkarr said, alarmed.

"He made it back in time to tell us about it before he was taken back to the Darwin for medical treatment...he might not make it." James said.

"Do you know what attacked them?"

"No sir...he said it was some sort of beast, and that it was not native to the planet." James said and sighed.

"I guess that means we were lucky today, huh Lliam." Delta said after hearing this.

"What do you mean?" James asked as he looked at this human.

"A while before we arrived here, Delta here sensed something in front of us. By his what he said it may have been a biological experiment, created at the Research facility." Lliam told them.

"If that's true, then we need to head out shortly." Rrahkarr said as he headed over to a comm unit. He dialed in a number and when someone responded he said "I.S.F. Darwin, this is Captain Sutarra, we're moving the attack plans up. We need ground transports to take us to the operation area at latitude 1.02 degrees north, longitude -71.5 degrees west immediately... the operation name...Harbinger."
