#20 of Astral High

So, to those of you who experience mass confusion after this chapter, be warned, this is all set up for the future of Astral High. All of it. It's one small step for man, and- no no no, this is too confusing of a chapter to deserve a quote or even an argument. Just enjoy confusion while it lasts.

I enterred the front door of my own home to find it in a state that my parents wouldn't let it be in. Dad was just sitting on the couch, starring at the TV, which told me they got the power back on. Dad wasn't dressed or prepared for work whatsoever, and I was a little confused by it, especially since mom was just as equally mesmorized by the TV, despite her being in the kitchen.

"Uhh, guys?" [Me]

Mom kinda shook her head a little and looked over at me, "Huh? Oh, you're here. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, what's going on? Why isn't dad at work?"

"Nobody's working today. Anywhere, in the town, that is."

"Why?"

Dad turned and starred at me, more intensely than, well, ever, "Why wouldn't they? There's so much stuff that happened last night, it's a wonder it could all happen in just one little town."

"This isn't exactly a small town, dad."

"Alex, listen. Last night, everything went wrong. Reports of people said they saw strange lights in the ocean, others say they saw people walking through the streets of the city, and some say they saw people pushing the trees over the power lines. By the way, power outages are prime times for crime rates. Even so, nearly every commercial building that sells things other than food items was broken into, and a lot was stolen."

"What, how is that even possible?"

"Nobody knows, that's why it's all over the news. They put some site up about the reports that are coming in to the police office, and half of them are senseless. Random shit just happened around the town, and if all of these are true, this town's going to hell."

"I checked some of the reports. One person claimed all the cheese in their house started levitating, and somebody else claimed their walls bled." [Mom]

"What? You guys are just messing with-" Mid sentence, dad pointed to the TV, where the news team was showing footage of a house, but all walls were stained an eerie redish color, and you could hear the voice of the man who lived there,

"... and they just started bleeding! It was terrifying! I tried soaking it up with paper towels or trying to do anything, but the walls kept bleeding! And I knew it couldn't have been something in the walls like rats or vermin, because all of them bled! They all just started to soak in blood that seeped from the walls-"

"See? We're telling the truth." [Dad]

"Right, and why is this happening?" [Me]

"God's angry." [Mom]

"Even god wouldn't do this, Jen. Even god has mercy when he's angry..." [Dad]

"Okay, I'm heading to Seth's house to see if anything happened there, I'll be right back."

I spun on my heel and bolted out the door, running down the street that was slowly filling with people. I got to Seth's house to see him sitting on the couch, watching the news. His parents were in the back of the room talking on the phone.

"Hey, I heard some crazy stuff happened last night." [Me]

"You don't even know..."

"Did anything happen here?"

"Apparently all the electronics turned on, despite the fact that, one, they'd gone to bed, and two, the power was out."

"Woah, that's creepy."

"Not as creepy as the guy whose house bled, or the guy who can hear voices of the deceased."

"What?!" [Me]

"Yeah. So much random crap started happening around town... What about your place? Did it go all freaky?"

"No, not that I know of-"

Seth's dad came around the corner, looking really frustrated, "Okay, a cop's gonna get here in just a minute. Please tell me nothing happened at Daniel's house."

"No, not during the storm." [Seth]

"Okay. What about you, Alex?"

"Nope."

"Okay, thank god. I don't know if I could handle more chaos." There was an awkward pause for a few moments, and then someone knocked at the door. When Seth's dad opened it, a white bunny walked in, wearing black jeans, a black tee, and a blue vest.

"Oh, you must be Officer Angmallen."

"Yes, I think I got an idea of what happened to you last night. Let me check, quick, we need to be thorough." The bunny pulled out a pad of paper, "So, you woke up to a loud sound, right? And you knew it wasn't thunder, so you went downstairs to check on it, realized the lights were back on, but knew that they were off when you went to bed?"

"Yes."

"Okay. And... when you came downstairs, the TV was on, and what else was?"

"Everything. From the blender to the computers to xbox to the microwave."

"Are you serious?"

"Yes! I burnt my hand when I touched the microwave."

"Sir, calm down, I just... We're just as confused as you, okay?"

"I know, I know, I... I'm sorry. I just... This doesn't make any sense."

"How do you think the guy with the bleeding house feels?"

"... What... What do you think is triggering all this?"

"Hell, I can argue this being a fluke reaction to lightning with your transformer or something. The other stories, not so much. Probably some damnable Theorium thing again. You remember last year's gamma wave?"

"We just moved here. And, isn't gamma radiation really dangerous?"

"It was one wave, only a few people even noticed it, but when they were taken to the hospital, a few studies were done, Theorium came in, gave 'em some drugs, and left."

"Theorium Industries?" [Me]

"Yeah, how do you know it? You're just a kid." [Officer Angmallen]

"My boyfriend's grandparents founded the company, and I was planning on working there."

"Oh, uh, okay. Well, if you do, could you tell them to stop shooting crap across the ocean?"

"I feel like anything being shot across the ocean is probably an accident." [Seth]

"Who knows. 'Bout thirty years ago they intentionally activated a potentially lethal weapon that gave us an off two hours of unusually high tides, even higher than a king tide."

"How is that even possible?" [Seth's Dad]

"Don't know, don't care, as long as they don't do it again."

"So, what's going to happen about all this stuff that's going on?"

"We're just trying to collect as much information as possible, and once we think we have all the reports, we'll study them to try to find any connections and patterns in those who experienced, well, whatever last night was. If it isn't to do with Theorium, then we're at a loss, but if it is, might very well go to war to destroy that company."
