Poem - Egality

Story by Michel Corbeau on SoFurry

Egality, Egality, was once the heavy dream

As humankind, from history, progressed,

Equality had trickled through society, and raised

A second levied fight for the oppressed.

This long campaign, the cause where all our years were bound,

Has come to us! We're holding vital ground!

This ground . . . the ground we now possess,

Inherited from generations past; It must be made to last.

The enemy has gotten wise, and sent a host of spies

That undermined our fight, and caused us to regress.

They claim to be our friends, but made our cause a pun.

What friends are they to us, when hate is all they speak?!

Reduced to mere automatons from out the spring of youth;

No ear to hear the truth nor wisdom will they seek?

Our once essential warriors were made expendable,

Because those joke machines deemed them not dependable.

They shamed these reasoned minds, "Your brain's too weak!"

And still reduce our words to signs of sad absurdity.

We've fought this war for everyone . . . but now,

Punch-line: "Egality!"
