Nick Halloway's Journal

Story by Niniju on SoFurry

Nick Halloway is a grey wolf with a mostly normal appearance. A side effect of him messing with the forces of death is the tendrils of black fur that run up and down the right side of his body. He also has yellow eyes and the right one has a slit pupil. As a result, he's recognized as a demon himself and is overall shunned. He puts on a guise, trying to fool everyone, including himself, that he's evil. In truth, he regrets being a necromancer, and is being forced to use necromancy as a means of survival. Being inexperienced in forgiveness and not personally believeing in it, he doesn't think there's a way to be reconciled for what he's done. He's called corpses from the ground, after all. He feels like if he dies he won't like what his afterlife is. He secretly seeks help, however, and little does he know how close he is to it.   His personality, as you could partially infer, is of an insecure nature. He shows an outward appearance of confidence, but his self esteem might as well be made of a thin sheet of glass. It's already in pieces as it is, and everything that people say to him just grinds it into sand. His journals shown here show his mental state as opposed to what he shows.   Year 40XX, Month 6, Week 2, Day 3I've been constantly watching a group of anthros for two days straight. I wasn't able to do journals on either of those days, so I hope I didn't miss any important information. I swear they're chasing me. They've been everywhere I have.A few minions were able to end their lives and give me more minions simultaneously. What an endless and useful cycle this is.   Year 40XX, Month 6, Week 2, Day 4I spent the day stalking target shown to me by Him. I still can't bring myself to write down his name. Anyone who speaks it invokes his wrath.Who am I talking about? Only a demon who saw "a gift of necromancy" in me. I was flattered at first, but I now see that it was only that. I was tricked. I've been formulating a way to betray him, and I've been praying profusely to my original God to forgive me. He gave me clerical talent, and I tainted it. Is it too late to return to the light? Maybe if I find the right offering...   Year 40XX, Month 6, Week 2, Day 5Ah, graveyards. As much as I want to forsake my necromantic tendencies, there's something about being surrounded by nothing alive.Wait, what are those figures in the brush? What are the(The journal cuts off here with a stroke of ink running to the right edge of the page and off the edge. The journal is dirty and torn in places.)   "Wait, where did you find him again?" Another asked.   "A graveyard." One answered.   "He's a necromancer?"   "His journal suggests

so."   "It's like you have no regard for anyone's private life."   "That's because I don't."   Another muttered, "Maybe I should show you what it feels like..."   "What?"   "Nothing, sir. Just talking to myself."   "You're an anthro, you don't have the right to speak to anyone but me. Including yourself." As soon as one turned his head, another rolled his eyes. He couldn't wait to enact his plan...
