The Cage

This story is super gritty and dark. Probably feelsy as well. I need help.

There was little to say about the room he was in. It was made of something smooth and smelled of some sort of cleaning liquid.

The first thing he realized was that he lacked vision where he felt like he was supposed to have it. He shook his head as if that would remedy the situation and bring him his first sight. Confusion came over him when that didn't help, but he was immediately distracted by the pang of hunger in his belly. The young creature whimpered to himself, because he could not smell anything edible in the room he'd been born in.

It felt like a long time before anything happened, and the newborn's hunger intensified with every second until he slumped down onto his belly to conserve energy instead of exploring his surroundings.

A draft blew in suddenly, making the creature perk up and look in the direction of the breeze. A voice spoke to him, in an tone that made it seem intimidating. Whatever it was, he didn't think he should make it angry.

"Hello, Dread. I've brought you something." There was a thump on the ground, and the smell of blood and flesh filled the room and made his mouth water. It made him completely forget that he had been called something. 'Dread' seemed to be his name. That stuck with him from then on...As was his instinct as a Pokemon.

Dread lunged for the source of the delicious scent filling the air, but was blocked by the being who had put it there. A grip was placed on his snout to prevent him from doing the first thing that came to his mind: Biting.

"First thing's first. Repeat after me. 'You are God. I will obey you without question, for I am insignificant.'." The heavy voice boomed towards him, making him shrink back.

His first attempt at repeating that was a series of growls and whines, but his hunger lead him to try again and again until that grip on his snout was released, and he could rush forward and eat the first meal of his life, and his hunger was finally sated.

Now he waddled around the confined area he'd been given, sniffing about before coming back to the spot of blood and licking it over and over. It didn't take long for his hunger to come back, but he slept before he got his next meal.

The next day, there was something else in his cage as well as his meal. It was moving, but only slightly. He didn't think it was a good idea to go up to it. He went to eat, instead, before backing away from the other living thing and staring sightlessly at it.

It moved eventually, and assumed a similar position. He could feel it staring at him. The two just stared for a time before the other spoke. Its voice was small. Meek, even.

"Hello." Was all it said, though Dread couldn't understand this at all. He could only stare in response, drawing back a bit when he felt the presence move closer to him.

The presence stopped coming closer then. "I'm not gonna hurt you. Its okay." The other creature said before drawing closer once more. Dread felt something cold touch him and an odd sound coming from the other being. He was being sniffed. The sniffer backed up a bit and seemed to regard him.

Dread did the only thing he knew how to do at the moment. He bit the other creature and tasted blood for the second time as well as something strange. Fur. This time, the blood was warm and wet. The difference made him flinch back even before he heard the squeak of surprise from the other creature.

The next few moments were a flurry of motion. The first thing that happened was that Dread realized he'd taken a bit of flesh off the creature. He swallowed that down before a flurry of yelling broke out from somewhere beyond their enclosure. That loud-voiced being entered the room once again, speaking too quickly for him to understand. He was rushed down suddenly, and something collided with his body. A flash of pain made him involuntarily whimper in pain and flee to another corner.

The other creature was removed, and he was left alone again with only the smell of blood and scraps of his meals.

Another meal didn't come. He was being punished, and he didn't know why. His hunger grew even more as time went by, and all he could think of was his next meal. The scent of blood in the air was a constant reminder of the meat he was being deprived.

The next few days, his meals were small. Just enough to keep him from starving. His mind was abuzz with hunger now. He tore voraciously into each meal, repeating those same words each time.

"You are God. I will obey you without question, for I am insignificant."

What felt like a week later, the creature was in the enclosure with him again. Dread felt a sense of strange fear now, knowing that he was punished for biting this furred creature a few days ago. But the creature approached him without hesitation this time. "I am living...to be eaten."

It didn't make sense. He was afraid just a few days ago. Dread could tell something was wrong. So he tried to speak using the words he'd picked up from the loud one over the last few days. "What...what are..."

He was silenced, though, by the furred creature talking once more. "The tall one told me. I was supposed to be your friend and stay with you, but you don't like me, so..." There was bit of a pause. "I'm just gonna be eaten. I will obey him without question, for I am insignificant." And then the strange creature came closer. Dread could smell the scent of blood still lingering about from the wound, as well as a sickly smell that he identified naturally as sickness. For some reason, that smell made him even hungrier. This creature was weak and it would be easy to eat, his instincts told him. But this was his 'friend', too, so he couldn't eat it.

He tried to wait for his next meal, but it never came. He knew the 'tall one' was watching. His only choice was to bite the furred creature. When he approached, it had stopped moving. When he bit in, the meat was cold. There was no squeak or reaction at all.

Dread was confused by this, but continued to eat. His hunger overruled the wrenching feeling in his chest. He had to eat and live, he realized. Eat and live because the Tall One told made him the one that eats instead of being eaten. Soon, there was nothing left of his friend.

Every day, he got less and less food. He was being forgotten. God was leaving him to die, he thought. To appease the Tall One, he grew more. A second companion appeared eventually, but this time he couldn't get rid of him. His hunger was even quicker to come with this second companion stuck to him like this.

The Tall One told him that he had done well in growing this second companion, and he was given more food than before. Dread had won back the Tall One's favor, and he was being rewarded. He started getting visits from this strange god.

On one of these visits, he was given a strange accessory. The Tall One put it around his neck, explaining to him what it was.

"This is your identity." The Tall One explained. "Your other head doesn't get one, because he's worthless. You're better than him."

Dread relished in the Tall One's attention and wore his accessory proudly. Even though he couldn't see it, he knew that it was from his God, and it meant he had God's favor. The other head, meanwhile, was starting to fight him for food. Whenever they got a meal, it would bite him and push his side to get to the meat first. His hunger was sated, but he could feel himself becoming weak as the other side became strong.

He was the one with the collar. His companion wanted to take it from him, he thought. He wouldn't let him.

His companion was getting hungrier as he was, and they fought more and more as they days went by. The visits from the Tall One stopped happening, and Dread's resentment towards his other head grew day by day. This came to its peak when one day while they were eating, the other head tugged on his accessory.

The next few moments were a blur to him. He felt a flash of hatred wash over his body, and he lashed out at his other head. Every bite hurt him as much as it did his other half and only served to intensify his anger until he was in a frenzy. Blood and flesh filled his mouth. His own flesh, and the flesh of his most hated enemy. He didn't stop ripping and tearing until he was exhausted.

Dread opened his eyes. The pain had stopped, and the sight of the gray stone room greeted his newly formed optics. It was so small to him now that he could see it. There were scraps of his friends littered around the floor as well as the torn skin and blood of his former second head, now reduced to the end of an appendage. It was completely under his control.

As if on cue, the Tall One entered the room to inspect his pet's new form, studying the newly realized Hydreigon. Dread recognized him by scent immediately, but saw that he was so...small. What he saw was a small, skinny, and pale little animal compared to his new large body. And with this new body came a new hunger. He didn't want to eat to survive any more. He wanted to eat everything he could.

The human spoke some words the Hydreigon hadn't learned yet, coming forward and reaching a hand out. Dread, though, responded by snatching the human up by the neck and shoving him against one of the stone walls so hard that the familiar metallic-scented liquid, blood, ran from his pink mouth. Dread saw fear in God's eyes, and his first smile crept onto his face.

"I am God now. You are insignificant." Dread growled before he opened his mouth to consume God's flesh.
