Quest for Doughnuts

It was a usual Thursday morning in the city of Hudsonville, Nebraska, and Frank was the first to wake up in his house at 5 am. Frank is a married 28 year old man with 2 kids, Kody is 2, and Lauren is 5. He is financially stable, with his management job at AIG, and Nancy, who is 27 years old, is a stay at home wife. Frank woke up at 5am, the rest of the family was still sleeping, and the first thing he does is make fresh coffee. He puts the water and grounds in the maker, turns it on, and walks outside of the front of his two story home in the middle of a small suburb to retrieve the morning paper. It was still a little dark outside, the sun was slowly rising. Frank took the paper out of the plastic sleeve and started to look at the front page. When he brought it up to his eyes, he noticed some of his neighbors outside, staring up at the sky, pointing. Frank was completely confused, until he started to search the sky. It wasn't long until he spotted three small green glowing orbs hovering in the sky. His jaw immediately dropped. It wasn't until a minute later that his gaze broke from the sky and down to his neighbors. He saw his next door neighbor, John, and started walking toward him, glancing at the sky on the way. John broke his gaze, and noticed Frank walking toward him, and John met him half way.

"What do you think it could be?" asked John, right after they stopped walking and fixed back at the sky.

Hesitating to answer, Frank replied, "I... have no clue."

They stood there, staring at the sky for what seemed like an eternity. Suddenly, Nancy's voice broke their silence, "Hey Frank. The coffee is ready. What are you still doing...outside?" Right then, Nancy noticed the orbs in the sky. They were slightly bigger and brighter than they were before. Still standing in the doorway, she took a step outside and closed the door behind her, silently, trying not to wake the kids.

Frank took a glance at his watch. It was 5:30. He didn't have to be at work till 9:00, so he had no need to go anywhere yet. He started walking toward Nancy, and five steps his walk, the orbs started glowing bigger and brighter, as if descending. Nancy yells "What the hell are those things?" Frank continues toward Nancy, and they met on the driveway, with Franks arm around her.

The orbs continued descending, and they were finally beginning to see details in them. Not a minute later they were hovering 30 feet above the ground. They were triangular in shape, curving up to a point at the "base" of the triangle, with green lights on the edges. They were in a triangular formation; the two smaller crafts were behind the larger one, as if following the alpha craft. Three 10 foot long legs emerged from the bottom of each ship at a slight angle before they landed. The main craft landed mostly on Frank's lawn, partly on the street, and managed to crush the mailbox, with the nose of the ship pointed at John's house. One of the smaller crafts landed on the street, bending a metal street lamp, and the other landed in a neighbor's lawn across the street. Everyone in the neighborhood was scared, some were shaking, none had the strength to move.

The crafts had heat radiating off of them, possibly from the entry into the atmosphere, Frank concluded. Under the main ship, a door started to open, steam exhausting out of it. There was a bright green light coming out of the ship, and a large, looming shadow can be seen. When the door hit the ground, a silence came over the neighborhood, with the exception of a light hum coming from the ships. Not long after the ship settled, the shadow started moving out. Frank and Nancy slowly backed up. The shadow was completely out of the ship, and after a moment of adjusting their eyes, Frank could clearly see the figure. It was about 8 feet tall, had a reptilian body, very muscular body, and armor covering the legs and shoulders. It started scanning its environment, slowly, from left to right, then looked straight ahead at Frank.

Frank, swallowing hard, looked back at the alien, and mustered up the courage to spit out a couple words, "Wh...What do you want?"

The Reptilian glared back at Frank, then looked at Nancy, who was now clinging on to Frank, then fixed his gaze back on Frank. His crocodile mouth slowly parted, then started to speak in an odd way with a deep, booming voice, as if he could barely speak any English, "We demand..." The pause caused Frank to be even more scared, swallowing even harder. "We demand...50 dozen glazed doughnuts!" Everyone was stunned. John was so stunned that he nearly fell over, but caught himself on a tree behind him. Frank's jaw dropped again. He looked at the two other ships and noticed that two other Reptilians came out of each of the two ships.

Frank shook his head, as if he didn't believe what he was seeing, and after he realized that this was real, he said, "Oh I see. You need to go to Krispy Kreme. It's just off 12th avenue, downtown, just about 10 miles west of here."

The Reptilian glared even harder at Frank, then put his palm over his eyes, shaking his head, "Aaw man, I'm sorry," then took his palm off of his face, and looked back at one of the other Reptilians and said, "Damnit Worg, I told you we were going to the wrong place!"

The one called Worg threw his hands up in the air and said, "Well Garx, I've been telling you that we need to get a new TomTom! This old piece of crap is completely inaccurate!"

They all turn around and go back into their ships, and before the one called Garx closed the door on the main ship, he said, "Thanks humans."

The crafts slowly rose in synchronous after all of the doors were closed, then after they were about 100 feet in the air, turned west, and jetted towards their new destination. Frank and Nancy stood there for a couple minutes more, looked at each other, then headed back inside, in silence.

It was now 6:25, and Lauren needed to wake up at 6:30. Nancy walks upstairs to check on the kids. They were still sound asleep. Nancy woke up Lauren, since she has to go to pre-school at 8, then walked back downstairs to make breakfast for everyone.

Frank grabbed a cup of coffee, which was a little cool now, and sat at the table. He started to read the newspaper just to put it down and ponder how his day will be from now on. Nancy was now making breakfast when Lauren was heard running down the stairs. Frank, now with his attention on Lauren, greeted her with a "Good morning!" and a hug. She replied "Good morning daddy!"

The rest of the day went on like usual. Frank took a shower after breakfast, and left for work. Nancy fed the kids and bathed then, then took Lauren to pre-school, with little Kody in the back seat drinking away on a milk bottle.

At 6 in the afternoon, Frank returned home. He plopped down on the couch, and turned on the TV. It was currently on the local channel. He was too lazy to change the channel and was even starting to fall asleep. Commercials were currently on, and then he heard "Tonight at 9, Aliens invade a local Krispy Kreme, raiding it for doughnuts. The president is going to speak about this. This and more, tonight at 9." Franks just let out a small grin, then drifted off to sleep.
