After being saved from homelessness by a friendly Dingo named Chris. He tries to protect his new-found friends against his former family.

Sorry it took so long, this chapter was a lot harder than the rest, but I hope you all enjoy. Please comment what you think about the chapter and the story overall, I'd love to hear your opinions.

I run around the corner of the alleyway, Chris is holding onto my hand as he tires to keep up with me. I look behind us as our pursuers still give chase, their weapons at the ready. My own sword is in my hand, ready to be used if anyone of them get's too close. In the distance is a two way corridor, a mercenary carrying an axe comes and Chris closes his eyes as I take the assailant down with a swift strike from my sword. The maze of alleyways in Midna seemed unending. Each alley led to another set of two. The fact the two of us haven't reached a dead end I can only sum up to dumb luck. I turn once again to Chris who's terrified expression worries me - he's not gonna make it the way he is right now.

"Chris," I yell to him as we make turn another corner. "Do you have your phone with you?"

"Y...yeah," he says.

"Try to call Patrick," I say. "Hopefully he can get us out of this."

Chris reaches into his pocket and takes out his phone and, with shaky hands, dials Patrick's phone number.

Outside the local bar, Patrick sleeps in the back seat.of his parked car. In the cup holder, Patrick's phone begins to vibrate, but Patrick merely shuffles in his sleep as the phone continues to buzz.

"He's not picking up!" Chris yells. I push Chris forward as I swipe at a katana wielding crocodile. He tries to swing toward my chest, but I step back, he swings again this time for my head, but I duck and thrust my sword into his stomach. I pull my sword out as the crocodile falls to the ground dead. Chris and I continue running as more mercenaries begin to catch up.

"Why are there so many!" Chris yells. I don't answer, I try to keep my strength and focus on trying to get out of here.

10 minutes ago. I'm sitting in the couch, reading a newspaper Chris got out of his room for me. The front page talks all about some celebrity breaking up with her fiancee, I turn the newspaper inside out trying to find what I'm looking for only to find it, the murder Victor committed at the school two days ago all the way at the back of the newspaper. "Is the news always this crappy?" I ask Chris who's in the kitchen.

"They get less crappy when you stop taking them seriously," Chris responds. I take his advice and put the newspaper onto the table. A loud noise is heard out in the hallway outside and I instinctively grab my sword. Chris backs away toward his room as I walk over to the door and peer into the peephole, only to see nothing. I let out a sigh and rub the back of my head and look back at Chris, the both of us embarrassed at our overreaction. I see something faint through the door to the balcony, I turn my head slightly to get a better view.

Everything goes into slow motion as a mercenary breaks through the balcony door, breaking it off it's hinges. I run over to the meerkat as Chris ducks back into his room. Two sharp blades come out of the mercenary's glove as he swings toward me. I roll around the attack and try to swing at his legs to no avail as my attack barely scratches the mercenary's armor. The meerkat kicks me into a wall and runs toward me, I hold my sword up and block his blades as they strike down to me.

Pinned down against the wall, the mercenary put's more force into his attack, I can feel my grip on my sword beginning to wear out. The mercenary suddenly screams in pain as Chris stands behind him, a kitchen knife in hand that is now stuck into the meerkat's back. I take advantage of the moment and dig my sword into the mercenary's gut. The meerkat falls to the ground as I stand up, Chris goes over to the balcony and freezes in place. I look at him as he points to the balcony.

I walk over to him and look out into the balcony to see an entire pack of mercenaries coming toward the apartment. Chris and I book it out into the hall and quickly make it to the back exit of the apartment. We take off into the alleyway with the mercenaries hot on our tails.

Present time, as we continue running from the mercenaries, I notice we're being watched by some out on the rooftops, those who either are too afraid to face me, or just want to watch me die. On top of one rooftop, Ollie pushes past two mercenaries and looks on in sorrow as I try to survive. "God damn, why'd you have to put yourself into this mess?" Ollie asks.

"Ain't that the question of the day," one of the mercenaries laughs.

"Oi, bugger off," Ollie snaps.

"No need to yell at your fellow killer Ollie," a voice says. Ollie turns to see Victor standing at the very edge of the roof overlooking the chase.

"I was hoping not to run into you," Ollie says. "Doesn't a slimy bastard like you have better things to deal with?"

"Why do I get such violent reactions from people?" Victor asks sarcastically. Ollie gives Victor a cold stare, Victor merely grins and looks back to the chase below. "I just wanted to watch the show along with everyone else."

After about an hour waiting, a mercenary jumps up onto the roof and walks over to Victor and Ollie. "Did you kill em?" Victor asks.

"No sir," the mercenary says. "We lost sight of them, we're searching the entire area for them right now, they have to be hiding somewhere."

"Well of course they're hiding somewhere," Ollie says.

Victor walks over to the edge of the roof, looking at the entire surrounding area. "That pup still has some cards up his sleeve," Victor grins. He walks over to the mercenary and Ollie. "I don't think Conway is gonna want any of us to come back to the guild empty handed, until Lucan is either dead or captured we're not leaving. Continue scanning the area, locate Lucan Gates and bring him back to me." The mercenary nods and returns back into the alleyway with the others. Victor looks up into the sky, the clouds darkening and enlarging in size.

"It's gonna rain soon," Ollie says. "I don't intent to catch a cold all just to catch a fucking runaway." Ollie begins waling away, Victor turns around, a grin across his face.

"I wonder who will find him first, Drake or the others," Victor snides. The remark makes Ollie stop in place, he turns back to Victor, a new found fury in the kangaroos's eyes. Ollie walks back to Victor and grabs him by the neck of his shirt. Ollie dangles Victor close to the edge of the roof, Victor keeps his composure and looks at Ollie with a demeaning grin.

"Stop making this a fuck'n game!" Ollie yells. "I know you couldn't give less shit about Lucan, but he's still my friend, and the last person I want to see killed is him, so don't get your fucking hopes up."

"I'll say the same for you," Victor says. Without warning, Victor headbutts Ollie, making him loose his grip of the wolf. Victor falls off the roof, but lands on his feet. Ollie holds onto his bleeding nose and watches Victor walk away, a ferocious scowl on his face.

I have my back against a wall, peeking my head around a corner to see any mercenaries near us. After I'm sure there's no one near, I turn back to Chris who has his phone out. "Have you contacted Patrick yet?" I ask.

"He's not picking up," Chris says as he dials Patrick's phone one more time. I sigh with annoyance as I peer around the corner again, I quickly look away as I spot two mercenaries walk toward us. I signal Chris to back away as I look around the corner to see who I might be up against. The first one is a big large bobcat holding in his hands a long metal spear, his companion, a plump looking hog who's holding a double edged axe. I could easily overpower the hog, but the bobcat is the one I'm more worried about. They haven't spotted me yet, it seems they're chatting up about some card game they were into before coming over here.

Just as I retract my head back, Chris's phone starts buzzing. "It's Patrick," Chris says. "Patrick, we need your help, Lucan and I are trapped in an alleyway, mercenaries are everywhere we need you to come and get us!"

The bobcat and hog faintly hear Chris talking and begin walking quicker toward us. I look around the corner and notice them walk toward us. I ready my sword, Chris sees this and begins to get nervous. He finishes his call with Patrick as I grab him and we both rush out of clear site as the bobcat and hog turn the corner.

"They were just here," the bobcat says. "I can smell him."

"Well then where is he!" the hog yells. The two continue to bicker as Chris and I hide behind an overturned garbage bin a ways a way from the duo. I turn to Chris.

"What did Patrick say?" I ask.

"He said to head to Rosemont Blvd," Chris says. "I know where that is, we just need to get past all these mercenaries."

I stand up from where we're sitting and look at both directions. "Just leave that for me," I say. "Come, we're in the clear."

With Chris leading, we run through the maze of alleyways. I can see a few mercenaries tailing us from the roof. The bobcat and hog are on our tail as well. The bobcat throws his spear at me, I turn around and deflect it with my sword. The bobcat catches his spear and the two of us clash with our weapons. The bobcat gains the upper hand and pushes me back, he slashes toward me violently, one hits me in the shoulder, but I bite down on the pain. I regain my composure and dodge the next oncoming attack and counter it with a quick slice across the arm. The bobcat, unfazed by the attack, grabs me the throat and throws me across the alleyway.

I skid onto the ground at Chris's feet , he picks me up and I go back into my fighting stance ready for round two. The bobcat charges, I stand in place, ready for the next attack. I block it and with a swift headbutt, incapacitate him long enough for me to quickly slash him across the chest. The bobcat falls to the ground, blood flows out from his wounds.

The hog who was watching from the sidelines grips his axe with complete anger at the defeat of his friend and rushes toward me, stopping mid swing, a big slash appears across his chest as he falls to the ground as well. I grip my sword, now dripping from both the bobcat's and hog's blood. My hands are shivering now, but I put it into the back of my mind as Chris and I continue our escape as the other mercenaries begin to get closer. As we leave, Drake appears out of the shadows and walks and kneels down to the unconscious bobcat, scanning the cut across his body. Drake looks to where Chris and I ran and slowly get's up and walks toward the location.

We keep running, not stopping what so ever, the exhaustion on Chris's face is incredibly noticeable, but if we stop for a second we will die. A mercenary with a bow running along side us from the roof begins firing at us. We dodge many of them, but one nicks Chris's cheek. Chris grasps the wound as we keep running, we make a hard turn down a corner.

Ahead of us, we could see the exit onto a street. "There it is," Chris says. "Patrick's car has to be over there." We both run toward the street, but we're suddenly intercepted by a jackal that jumps down in front of us. I clash with the mercenary but ultimately get pinned to the wall by the mercenary, its sword inching ever so closer to my neck.

"CHRIS...RUN!" I yell. Chris looks back to the street then back to the two struggling mercenaries. Chris grits his teeth and fights the fear racing in his head as he runs over and punches the mercenary as hard as he could. The punch makes the mercenary stunned and gives me the time to slash the mercenary away. The mercenary jumps back, the wound across his body begins to bleed, but the mercenary blocks the pain, with a loud growl, the mercenary throws himself at me, slashing at me violently and viciously.

"Chris keep running," I order, even with a large slash across his body, the jackal still holds his own and we both in a deadlock. "I'll be right behind -" I suddenly cry in pain as an arrow goes straight through my leg. The sudden blow makes me lose my footing and I kneel down, my strength quickly evaporated, the jackal takes the chance to kick me in the head, making me fall to the ground, my head hitting the ground hard.

"Lucan!" Chris yells.

Patrick's car comes in focus at the street, he rolls down the window. "Chris, get over here now!" Patrick yells.

"Chris...you have to go...," I wheeze on the ground.

"Chris, get the fuck to the car!" Patrick yell. The jackal steps over my body and faces Chris, an evil smile on his face, his sword barred toward the scared dingo.

"You should listen to him," the jackal says. "Unless of course you want me to kill you."

The jackal takes another step toward Chris, but stops as I run my sword straight through his chest. The jackal tries to say something, but simply coughs up blood before falling to the ground. I go down to one knee, holding onto the arrow still embedded into my leg. The archer that shot me followed by multiple other mercenaries walk down the alleyway toward us.

"Chris...you have to run," I say. "I'll be right behind you."

Chris moves toward the car, not taking his eyes off me and the mercenaries behind me. As I try to take the arrow out of my leg, I can hear the footsteps behind grow louder until they stop and then the sound of swords being taken out.

"Lucan Gates, you have been ordered to die by our leader Conway," one of the mercenaries, a large lizard says.. The lizard tries to speak again, but is cut-off by me standing to my feet, I take my sword off the ground and look at it, at the faint reflection of myself off the blade.

"Ordered to die..." I breath out. Chris gets to the car, but looks on at the confrontation. Patrick sits in the driver's seat, a nervous look on his face. Rain begins to fall heavily.

"It's time to die you scum!" the lizard yells as he runs toward me as I continue staring at my sword, my back completely facing the lizard. The mercenary comes into focus on my blade and I turn around rapidly and strike the lizard down, the lizard drops to the ground as I look toward the other mercenaries.

"I don't like being ordered around anymore!" I yell as I run toward the mercenaries.
